| 1 | Environmental issues from coal mining and their solutions显示文摘The environmental challenges from coal mining include coal mine accidents,land subsidence,damage to the water environment,mining waste disposal and air pollution.These are either environmental pollution or landscape change.A conceptual framework for solving mine environmental issues is proposed.Clean processes,or remediation measures,are designed to address environmental pollution.Restoration measures are proposed to handle landscape change.The total methane drainage from 56 Chinese high methane concentration coal mines is about 101.94 million cubic meters.Of this methane,19.32 million,35.58 million and 6.97 million cubic meters are utilized for electricity generation,civil fuel supplies and other industrial purposes,respectively.About 39% of the methane is emitted into the atmosphere.The production of coal mining wastes can be decreased 10% by reuse of mining wastes as underground fills,or by using the waste as fuel for power plants or for raw material to make bricks or other infrastructure materials.The proper use of mined land must be decided in terms of local physical and socio-economical conditions.In European countries more than 50% of previously mined lands are reclaimed as forest or grass lands.However,in China more than 70% of the mined lands are reclaimed for agricultural purposes because the large population and a shortage of farmlands make this necessary.Reconstruction of rural communities or native residential improvement is one environmental problem arising from mining.We suggest two ways to reconstruct a farmer's house in China. | BIAN, Zhengfu INYANG, Hilary I DANIELS, John L OTTO, Frank STRUTHERS, Sue | 2010 | Mining Science and Technology2010,20,2: | 47 |

| 4 | Oral frailty and neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Frailty is a critical intermediate status of the aging process with a multidimensional and multisystem nature and at higher risk for adverse health-related outcomes,including falls,disability,hospitalizations,institutionalization,mortality,dementia,and Alzheimer’s disease.Among different frailty phenotypes,oral frailty has been recently suggested as a novel construct defined as a decrease in oral function with a coexisting decline in cognitive and physical functions.We briefly reviewed existing evidence on operational definitions of oral frailty,assessment and screening tools,and possible relationships among oral frailty,oral microbiota,and Alzheimer’s disease neurodegeneration.Several underlying mechanism may explain the oral health-frailty links including undernutrition,sarcopenia linked to both poor nutrition and frailty,psychosocial factors,and the chronic inflammation typical of oral disease.Oral microbiota may influence Alzheimer’s disease risk through circulatory or neural access to the brain and the interplay with periodontal disease,often causing tooth loss also linked to an increased Alzheimer’s disease risk.On this bases,COR388,a bacterial protease inhibitor targeting Porphyromonas gingivalis implicated in periodontal disease,is now being tested in a double-blind,placebocontrolled Phase II/III study in mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease.Therefore,oral status may be an important contributor to general health,including Alzheimer’s disease and latelife cognitive disorders,suggesting the central role of preventive strategies targeting the novel oral frailty phenotype and including maintenance and improvement of oral function and nutritional status to reduce the burden of both oral dysfunction and frailty. | Vittorio Dibello Madia Lozupone Daniele Manfredini Antonio Dibello Roberta Zupo Rodolfo Sardone Antonio Daniele Frank Lobbezoo Francesco Panza | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,11: | 10 |
| 5 | Biodegradable magnesium barrier membrane used for guided bone regeneration in dental surgery显示文摘Barrier membranes are commonly used as part of the dental surgical technique guided bone regeneration(GBR)and are often made of resorbable collagen or non-resorbable materials such as PTFE.While collagen membranes do not provide sufficient mechanical protection of the covered bone defect,titanium reinforced membranes and non-resorbable membranes need to be removed in a second surgery.Thus,biodegradable GBR membranes made of pure magnesium might be an alternative.In this study a biodegradable pure magnesium(99.95%)membrane has been proven to have all of the necessary requirements for an optimal regenerative outcome from both a mechanical and biological perspective.After implantation,the magnesium membrane separates the regenerating bone from the overlying,faster proliferating soft tissue.During the initial healing period,the membrane maintained a barrier function and space provision,whilst retaining the positioning of the bone graft material within the defect space.As the magnesium metal corroded,it formed a salty corrosion layer and local gas cavities,both of which extended the functional lifespan of the membrane barrier capabilities.During the resorption of the magnesium metal and magnesium salts,it was observed that the membrane became surrounded and then replaced by new bone.After the membrane had completely resorbed,only healthy tissue remained.The in vivo performance study demonstrated that the magnesium membrane has a comparable healing response and tissue regeneration to that of a resorbable collagen membrane.Overall,the magnesium membrane demonstrated all of the ideal qualities for a barrier membrane used in GBR treatment. | Patrick Rider Zeljka Peric Kacarevic Akiva Elad Drazen Tadic Daniel Rothamel Gerrit Sauer Fabien Bornert Peter Windisch David Botond Hangyasi Balint Molnar Emely Bortel Bernhard Hesse Frank Witte | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,8: | 7 |

| 8 | Retrograde-viewing device improves adenoma detection rate in colonoscopies for surveillance and diagnostic workup显示文摘AIM:To determine which patients might benefit most from retrograde viewing during colonoscopy through subset analysis of randomized,controlled trial data.METHODS:The Third Eye Retroscope Randomized Clinical Evaluation(TERRACE) was a randomized,controlled,multicenter trial designed to evaluate the efficacy of a retrograde-viewing auxiliary imaging device that is used during colonoscopy to provide a second video image which allows viewing of areas on the proximal aspect of haustral folds and flexures that are difficult to see with the colonoscope's forward view.We performed a post-hoc analysis of the TERRACE data to determine whether certain subsets of the patient population would gain more benefit than others from use of the device.Subjects were patients scheduled for colonoscopy for screening,surveillance or diagnostic workup,and each underwent same-day tandem examinations with standard colonoscopy(SC) and Third Eye colonoscopy(TEC),randomized to SC followed by TEC or vice versa.RESULTS:Indication for colonoscopy was screening in 176/345 subjects(51.0%),surveillance after previous polypectomy in 87(25.2%) and diagnostic workup in 82(23.8%).In 4 subjects no indication was specified.Previously reported overall results had shown a net additional adenoma detection rate(ADR) with TEC of 23.2% compared to SC.Relative risk(RR) of missing adenomas with SC vs TEC as the initial procedure was 1.92(P = 0.029).Post-hoc subset analysis shows additional ADRs for TEC compared to SC were 4.4% for screening,35.7% for surveillance,55.4% for diagnostic and 40.7% for surveillance and diagnostic combined.The RR of missing adenomas with SC vs TEC was 1.11(P = 0.815) for screening,3.15(P = 0.014) for surveillance,8.64(P = 0.039) for diagnostic and 3.34(P = 0.003) for surveillance and diagnostic combined.Although a multivariate Poisson regression suggested gender as a possibly significant factor,subset analysis showed that the difference between genders was not statistically significant.Age,bowel prep quality and withdrawal time did not significantly affect the RR of missing adenomas with SC vs TEC.Mean sizes of adenomas detected with TEC and SC were similar at 0.59 cm and 0.56 cm,respectively(P = NS).CONCLUSION:TEC allows detection of significantly more adenomas compared to SC in patients undergoing surveillance or diagnostic workup,but not in screening patients(ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier:NCT01044732). | Peter D Siersema Amit Rastogi Anke M Leufkens Paul A Akerman Kassem Azzouzi Richard I Rothstein Frank P Vleggaar Alessandro Repici Giacomo Rando Patrick I Okolo Olivier Dewit Ana Ignjatovic Elizabeth Odstrcil James East Pierre H Deprez Brian P Saunders Anthony N Kalloo Bradley Creel Vikas Singh Anne Marie Lennon Daniel C DeMarco | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,26: | 6 |
| 9 | Clinical and histopathological correlations of fecal calprotectin release in colorectal carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To determine calprotectin release before and after colorectal cancer operation and compare it to tumor and histopathological parameters.METHODS:The study was performed on patients with diagnosed colorectal cancer admitted for operation.Calprotectin was measured in a single stool sample before and three months after the operation using an enzymelinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Calprotectin levels greater than or equal to 50μg/g were considered positive.The compliance for collecting stool samples was assessed and the value of calprotectin was correlated to tumor and histopathological parameters of intra-and peri-tumoral inflammation.Surgical specimens were fixed in neutral buffered formalin and stained with hematoxylin and eosin.Staging was performed according to the Dukes classification system and the 7th edition tumor node metastasis classification system.Intra-and peri-tumoral inflammation was graded according to the Klintrup criteria.Immunohistochemical quantification was performed for MPO,CD45R0,TIA-1,CD3,CD4,CD8,CD57,and granzyme B.Statistical significance was measured using Wilcoxon signed rank test,Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient as appropriate.RESULTS:Between March 2009 and May 2011,80 patients with colorectal cancer(46 men and 34 women,with mean age of 71±11.7 years old)were enrolled in the study.Twenty-six patients had rectal carcinoma,29 had left-side tumors,23 had right-side tumors,and2 had bilateral carcinoma.In total,71.2%of the patients had increased levels of calprotectin before the operation(median 205μg/g,range 50-2405μg/g)and experienced a significant decrease three months after the operation(46μg/g,range 10-384μg/g,P<0001).The compliance for collecting stool samples was 89.5%.Patients with T3 and T4 tumors had significantly higher values than those with T1 and T2 cancers(P=0.022).For all other tumor parameters(N,M,G,L,V,Pn)and location,no significant difference in calprotectin concentration was found.Furthermore,the calprotectin levels and histological grading of both peri-and intra-tumoral inflammation was not correlated.Additional testing with specific markers for lymphocytes and neutrophils also revealed no statistically significant correlation.CONCLUSION:Fecal calprotectin decreases significantly after colorectal cancer operation.Its value depends exclusively on the individual T-stage,but not on other tumor or histopathological parameters. | Frank Serge Lehmann Francesca Trapani Ida Fueglistaler Luigi Maria Terracciano Markus von Flüe Gieri Cathomas Andreas Zettl Pascal Benkert Daniel Oertli Christoph Beglinger | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,17: | 6 |
