1Effectiveness of exercise in hepatic fat mobilization in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: Systematic review显示文摘AIM: To investigate the efficacy of exercise interventions on hepatic fat mobilization in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) patients.METHODS: Ovid-Medline, Pub Med, EMBASE and Cochrane database were searched for randomized trials and prospective cohort studies in adults aged ≥ 18 which investigated the effects of at least 8 wk of exercise only or combination with diet on NAFLD from 2010 to 2016. The search terms used to identify articles, in which exercise was clearly described by type, duration, intensity and frequency were: 'NASH', 'NAFLD', 'nonalcoholic steatohepatitis', 'non-alcoholic fatty liver disease', 'fat', 'steatosis', 'diet', 'exercise', 'MR spectroscopy' and 'liver biopsy'. NAFLD diagnosis, as well as the outcome measures, was confirmed by either hydrogen-magnetic resonance spectroscopy(H-MRS) or biopsy. Trials that included dietary interventions along with exercise were accepted if they met all criteria. RESULTS: Eight studies met selection criteria(6 with exercise only, 2 with diet and exercise with a total of 433 adult participants). Training interventions ranged between 8 and 48 wk in duration with a prescribed exercise frequency of 3 to 7 d per week, at intensities between 45% and 75% of VO2 peak. The most commonly used imaging modality was H-MRS and one study utilized biopsy. The effect of intervention on fat mobilization was 30.2% in the exercise only group and 49.8% in diet and exercise group. There was no difference between aerobic and resistance exercise intervention, although only one study compared thetwo interventions. The beneficial effects of exercise on intrahepatic triglyceride(IHTG) were seen even in the absence of significant weight loss. Although combining an exercise program with dietary interventions augmented the reduction in IHTG, as well as improved measures of glucose control and/or insulin sensitivity, exercise only significantly decreased hepatic lipid contents.CONCLUSION: Prescribed exercise in subjects with NAFLD reduces IHTG independent of dietary intervention. 2Euler-Lagrange/DEM simulation of wood gasification in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor显示文摘We present an Euler–Lagrange method for the simulation of wood gasification in a bubbling fluidized bed. The gas phase is modeled as a continuum using the 2D Navier–Stokes equations and the solid phase is modeled by a Discrete Element Method(DEM)using a soft-sphere approach for the particle collision dynamic. Turbulence is included via a Large-Eddy approach using the Smagorinsky sub-grid model.The model takes into account detailed gas phase chemistry,zero-dimensional modeling of the pyrolysis and gasification of each individual particle,particle shrinkage,and heat and mass transfer between the gas phase and the particulate phase.We investigate the influence of wood feeding rate and compare exhaust gas compositions and temperature results obtained with the model against experimental data of a laboratory scale bubbling fluidized bed reactor.Michael Oevermann Stephan Gerber Frank Behrendt 2009Particuology2009,7,4:15

4Importance of fatigue and its measurement in chronic liver disease显示文摘The mechanisms of fatigue in the group of people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis are protean. The liver is central in the pathogenesis of fatigue because it uniquely regulates much of the storage, release and production of substrate for energy generation. It is exquisitely sensitive to the feedback controlling the uptake and release of these energy generation substrates. Metabolic contributors to fatigue, beginning with the uptake of substrate from the gut, the passage through the portal system to hepatic storage and release of energy to target organs (muscle and brain) are central to understanding fatigue in patients with chronic liver disease. Inflammation either causing or resulting from chronic liver disease contributes to fatigue, although inflammation has not been demonstrated to be causal. It is this unique combination of factors, the nexus of metabolic abnormality and the inflammatory burden of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis that creates pathways to different types of fatigue. Many use the terms central and peripheral fatigue. Central fatigue is characterized by a lack of self-motivation and can manifest both in physical and mental activities. Peripheral fatigue is classically manifested by neuromuscular dysfunction and muscle weakness. Therefore, the distinction is often seen as a difference between intention (central fatigue) versus ability (peripheral fatigue). New approaches to measuring fatigue include the use of objective measures as well as patient reported outcomes. These measures have improved the precision with which we are able to describe fatigue. The measures of fatigue severity and its impact on usual daily routines in this population have also been improved, and they are more generally accepted as reliable and sensitive. Several approaches to evaluating fatigue and developing endpoints for treatment have relied of biosignatures associated with fatigue. These have been used singly or in combination and include: physical performance measures, cognitive performance measures, mood/behavioral measures, brain imaging and serological measures. 6Nitrogen and phosphorus balance analysis of cultivated land in Jiangsu plain,China显示文摘Jiangsu plain is located along the downstream of the Yangtze River, the north part of which is also the coast area of the Yellow Sea. The specific location makes the local environmental issues regionally important. This paper studied arable land area, plantation structure, livestock sector data, which shows that livestock sector contributes a big amount of nitrogen and phosphorus, in terms of the demand from the agriculture use in Jiangsu plain. But actually, there is still much mineral fertiliser used in agriculture, which causes the N and P produced from livestock sector being an important source of pollution to the environment. To assess for an association between androgen levels and IVF stimulation parameters or IVF pregnancy outcome. Design: Prospective cohort study. Setting: Residency-based IVF program. Patient(s): One hundred seventeen infertility patients. Intervention(s): Androgen levels were evaluated on basal day 3 and during the IVF stimulation cycle. Main Outcome Measure(s): Pregnancy outcome rates and IVF stimulation parameters. Result(s): Mean serum androgen levels did not differ among different pregnancy outcomes. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that body mass index (BMI) and oocyte number had a significant positive association with basal testosterone levels. Mean ovarian volume correlated negatively and follicle number correlated positively with testosterone levels on day 6 of stimulation. Peak E2 and BMI correlated positively with testosterone on day of hCG administration. The interval change in androgen levels throughout the IVF cycle was not associated with outcome rates. Likewise, threshold analysis did not reveal any significant androgen level that affected pregnancy outcome. Conclusion(s): Serum androgen levels during IVF correlate with IVF stimulation parameters. 9DMP1 prevents osteocyte alterations,FGF23 elevation and left ventricular hypertrophy in mice with chronic kidney disease显示文摘During chronic kidney disease (CKD),alterations in bone and mineral metabolism include increased production of the hormone fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) that may contribute to cardiovascular mortality.The osteocyte protein dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP1) reduces FGF23 and enhances bone mineralization,but its effects in CKD are unknown.We tested the hypothesis that DMP1 supplementation in CKD would improve bone health,prevent FGF23 elevations and minimize consequent adverse cardiovascular outcomes.We investigated DMP1 regulation and effects in wild-type (WT) mice and the Col4a3^-/- mouse model of CKD.Col4a3^-/- mice demonstrated impaired kidney function,reduced bone DMP1 expression,reduced bone mass,altered osteocyte morphology and connectivity,increased osteocyte apoptosis,increased serum FGF23,hyperphosphatemia,left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH),and reduced survival.Genetic or pharmacological supplementation of DMP1 in Col4a3^-/- mice prevented osteocyte apoptosis,preserved osteocyte networks,corrected bone mass,partially lowered FGF23 levels by attenuating NFAT-induced FGF23 transcription,and further increased serum phosphate.Despite impaired kidney function and worsened hyperphosphatemia,DMP1 prevented development of LVH and improved Col4a3^-/- survival.Our data suggest that CKD reduces DMP1 expression,whereas its restoration represents a potential therapeutic approach to lower FGF23 and improve bone and cardiac health in CKD.Corey Dussold Claire Gerber Samantha White Xueyan Wang Lixin Qi Connor Francis Maralee Capella Guillaume Courbon Jingya Wang Chaoyuan Li Jian Q. 10Lipocalin 2 stimulates bone fibroblast growth factor 23 production in chronic kidney disease显示文摘Bone-produced fibroblast growth factor 23(FGF23)increases in response to inflammation and iron deficiency and contributes to cardiovascular mortality in chronic kidney disease(CKD).Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin(NGAL or lipocalin 2;LCN2 the murine homolog)is a pro-inflammatory and iron-shuttling molecule that is secreted in response to kidney injury and may promote CKD progression.We investigated bone FGF23 regulation by circulating LCN2.At 23 weeks,Col4a3KO mice showed impaired kidney function,increased levels of kidney and serum LCN2,increased bone and serum FGF23,anemia,and left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH).Deletion of Lcn2 in CKD mice did not improve kidney function or anemia but prevented the development of LVH and improved survival in association with marked reductions in serum FGF23.Lcn2 deletion specifically prevented FGF23 elevations in response to inflammation,but not iron deficiency or phosphate,and administration of LCN2 increased serum FGF23 in healthy and CKD mice by stimulating Fgf23 transcription via activation of cAMP-mediated signaling in bone cells.These results show that kidney-produced LCN2 is an important mediator of increased FGF23 production by bone in response to inflammation and in CKD.LCN2 inhibition might represent a potential therapeutic approach to lower FGF23 and improve outcomes in CKD.Guillaume Courbon Connor Francis Claire Gerber Samantha Neuburg Xueyan Wang Emily Lynch Tamara Isakova Jodie LBabitt Myles Wolf Aline Martin Valentin David 2021Bone Research2021,9,3:4

12Understanding the Removal and Fate of Selected Drugs of Abuse in Sludge and Biosolids from Australian Wastewater Treatment Operations显示文摘Illicit and pharmaceutical drugs are considered to be emerging contaminants of concern,and much research effort has gone into assessing their occurrence in wastewater.However,little information exists on their presence in treated sludge or biosolids.In this study,we examined sludge and biosolids from a large metropolitan wastewater treatment plant(WWTP)in Australia to determine the occurrence of five drugs of abuse,including benzoylecgonine as indicator of cocaine consumption,methamphetamine and 3,4-methylenedioxy methamphetamine(MDMA)as representative illicit stimulants,and codeine and morphine as pharmaceuticals with potential environmental risk.The samples were solid-phase extracted and analyzed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry(LC–MS/MS).Benzoylecgonine and MDMA were present in raw sludge but were notably degraded during solids treatment processes,and were not detected in the dewatered sludge(after treatment)or in biosolids.Methamphetamine,codeine,and morphine were detected in all biosolids samples at mean concentrations of 20–50 lg kg^-1.The presence of these three drugs in biosolids shows that these compounds are relatively stable in the solids and in soil,and can persist in biosolids for at least several years.A simple environmental risk assessment based on estimated risk quotients(RQs)for these compounds indicated that the potential environmental risks associated with the land application of biosolids are very low at typical Australian biosolids application rates.Meena K.Yadav Cobus Gerber Christopher P.Saint Ben Van den Akker Michael D.Short 2019Engineering2019,5,5:3

19Effects of two types of exercise training on psychological well-being,sleep,quality of life and physical fitness in patients with high-grade glioma(WHO III and IV):study protocol for a randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background:There is existing evidence on whether and to what degree regular exercise training improves the quality of life(QoL)among cancer survivors.However,in regards to patients with high-grade glioma(HGG;WHO grade III and IV),no conclusive study has been performed so far.The present trial aims to fill this gap by examining whether psychological well-being,sleep,QoL and physical fitness might be improved with two different types of exercise,as compared to an active control condition.Active control condition represent individuals participating at regular meetings to talk about their current life situation,though,the meetings were not intended as that of the psychotherapy group.Regular meetings are of the same frequency,duration,and intensity as the exercise interventions.Methods:A total of 45 patients with HGG after undergoing neurosurgery and adjuvant radiotherapy,chemotherapy,or chemoradiotherapy will be consecutively and randomly assigned to(a)an endurance training,(b)a resistance training or(c)to an active control condition.The intervention will last for 6 consecutive weeks,consisting of 2 weekly sessions(30-45 min per session).Measurements would take place at three time points,namely at the beginning of the study(baseline),3 weeks after the beginning of the study,and 6 weeks after the beginning of the study.The last measurement also represents the end of the study.Aerobic exercise performance will be assessed objectively with a 6-min walking test,and a handgrip test will be used to assess the upper body strength.Further,participants will complete a battery of questionnaires covering sociodemographic information,QoL,sleep quality and sleep patterns,coping with stress,state-and trait-anxiety,depression,and fatigue.In parallel,experts will use the Hamilton Depres-sion Rating Scale to determine and rate participants’symptoms of depression.Significance:The present study will be the first to investigate and compare the impact of two different exercise modalities,namely endurance and resistance training,on physical fitness and dimensions of well-being,and sleep among patients with HGG who underwent neurosurgery followed by adjuvant radiotherapy,chemotherapy,or chemoradiotherapy.Importantly,unlike the majority of previous studies,the control condition consists of an active set-up to detect possible factual beneficial effects of exercise training,irrespective of social interactions.Dominik Cordier Markus Gerber Serge Brand 2019Cancer Communications2019,39,1:2
