Lymphoepithelioma-like hepatocellular carcinoma: Case report and review of the literature显示文摘Lymphoepithelioma-like hepatocellular carcinoma(LELHCC) is a rare form of undifferentiated carcinoma of the liver characterized by the presence of an abundant lymphoid infiltrate. Here,a case of LEL-HCC is described. An 81-year-old woman with a chronic hepatitis C infection was referred to the general surgery department of our hospital in August 2013 with a diagnosis of HCC. A past ultrasound examination had revealed a 60 mm-diameter nodular lesion in the third segment of the liver. After a needle biopsy, the lesion was diagnosed as HCC. The patient underwent surgery with a liver segmentectomy. Two additional nodes on the gastric wall were detected during the surgical operation. The histology of the removed specimen showed a poorly differentiated HCC with significant lymphoid stroma. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that the epithelial component was reactive for CK CAM5.2,CK8,CK18,CEA(polyclonal) and was focally positive for hepar-1 and that the lymphoid infiltrate was positive for CD3,CD4 and CD8. The tumor cells were negative for Epstein-Barr virus. The gastric nodes were ultimately determined to be two small gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs).The synchronous occurrence of HCC and GIST is another very uncommon finding rarely described in the literature. Here,we report the clinicopathological features of our case, along with a review of the few cases present in the literature. | Andrea Cacciato Insilla Pinuccia Faviana Luca Emanuele Pollina Paolo De Simone Laura Coletti Franco Filipponi Daniela Campani | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,36: | 5
Deep endometriosis with pericolic lymph node involvement: A case report and literature review显示文摘Deep infiltrating endometriosis is an often-painful disorder affecting women during their reproductive years that usually involves the structures of the pelvis and frequently the gastrointestinal tract. We present the case of a 37-year-old female patient with an endometrial growth on the sigmoid colon wall causing pain, diarrhea and the presence of blood in the feces. The histology of the removed specimen also revealed the involvement of the utero-vesical fold, the recto-vaginal septum and a pericolic lymph node, which are all quite uncommon findings. To identify the endometrial cells,we performed immunohistochemical staining for CD10and the estrogen and progesterone receptors. | Andrea Cacciato Insilla Monnalisa Granai Grazia Gallippi Patrizia Giusti Sabina Giusti Simone Guadagni Luca Morelli Daniela Campani | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,21: | 4
Aquatic exercise program-modulated oxidative stress markers in patients with Parkinson's disease显示文摘Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease.Oxidative stress,i.e.,the imbalance between the generation of reactive oxygen species and the antioxidant defense capacity of the body, plays an important role in the pathogenesis of this disease.Physical exercise can regulate oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to analyze the short-and long-term effects of an aquatic exercise program on oxidative stress levels in patients with Parkinson's disease. The aquatic exercise program was carried out during 1 month with two sessions per week(1 hour/session).Blood samples were collected at four different time points:pre-intervention,immediately,48 hours, and 30 days after the first session of aquatic exercise program. Our results revealed that water-based programs modulated antioxidant enzyme activity, increased superoxide dismutase activity, reduced catalase activity, and increased the ratio of superoxide dismutase activity to catalase activity in patients with Parkinson's disease.Compared with pre-intervention and 48 hours after the first session of aquatic exercise program, superoxide dismutase activity was higher and catalase activity was lower immediately and 30 days after the first session. Our results demonstrated that aquatic exercise program could modulate oxidative stress, mainly by the effect of antioxidant enzyme activity. These results could better help understand the target of oxidative stress in Parkinson's disease. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Centro Universitário Metodista IPA(approval No.1.373.911)on August 9,2019 and registered with REBEC(registration number:RBR-6 NJ4 MK). | Caroline Dani Isabel Teixeira Proenca Jessica Marinho Pamela Peccin Ivy Reichert Vital da Silva Simone Nique Vera Striebel Daniela Pochmann Viviane Rostirola Elsner | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,11: | 4
Clinical hematological and biochemical parameters in Swiss,BALB/c,C57BL/6 and B6D2F1 Mus musculus显示文摘Background:Animal models are widely used in scientific research in order to obtain information from a whole organism under a specific set of experimental conditions.Various lineages of mice have been used to investigate diseases and new therapeutic strategies, and, consequently, hematological and biochemical tests in these laboratory animals are essential to validate scientific studies. Our study seeks to establish reference values for hematological and biochemical parameters of four lineages of mice. Methods:We evaluated the hematological and biochemical profiles of 20 males and 20 females from the lineages Swiss(heterogeneous),BALB/c and C57BL/6(isogenic),and B6D2F1(hybrid),totaling 160 mice.Analysis were standardized using the systems pocH-100iV Diff™for 19 hematological parameters and VITROS®350 for 12 biochemical parameters. Results:Results are shown as means and standard deviation, grouped by lineage and genre.Comparing the values obtained in this study with the values from previous studies, some variations were detected, which could be explained by differences in methodologies or individual variability. Conclusion:Thus our study shows that knowledge and disclosure of the values of physiological parameters of laboratory animals is necessary, and emphasises the importance of considering variations influenced by gender, lineage and genotype in the choice of the best experimental model. | Giorgio Silva-Santana Juliet Cunha Bax Débora Cristina Silva Fernandes Daniela Tendler Leibel Bacellar Cleber Hooper Alexandre Alves Souza Oliveira Dias Cristina Barbosa Silva Aline Moreira de Souza Simone Ramos Ricardo Alexandre Santos Thainara Ramos Pinto Mariana Antunes Ramão Ana Luíza Mattos-Guaraldi | 2020 | Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2020,3,4: | 2

Machine Learning to Detect Alzheimer’s Disease from Circulating Non-coding RNAs显示文摘Blood-borne small non-coding(snc RNAs)are among the prominent candidates for blood-based diagnostic tests.Often,high-throughput approaches are applied to discover biomarker signatures. These have to be validated in larger cohorts and evaluated by adequate statistical learning approaches.Previously,we published high-throughput sequencing based microRNA(miRNA)signatures in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)patients in the United States(US)and Germany. Here,we determined abundance levels of 21 known circulating miRNAs in 465 individuals encompassing AD patients and controls by RT-qPCR.We computed models to assess the relation between miRNA expression and phenotypes, gender, age,or disease severity(Mini-Mental State Examination;MMSE).Of the 21 miRNAs,expression levels of 20 miRNAs were consistently de-regulated in the US and German cohorts.18 miRNAs were significantly correlated with neurodegeneration(Benjamini-Hochberg adjusted P<0.05)with highest significance for miR-532-5 p(BenjaminiHochberg adjusted P=4.8×10^-30).Machine learning models reached an area under the curve(AUC)value of 87.6%in differentiating AD patients from controls.Further, ten miRNAs were significantly correlated with MMSE,in particular miR-26a/26b-5p(adjusted P=0.0002).Interestingly,the miRNAs with lower abundance in AD were enriched in monocytes and T-helper cells, while those up-regulated in AD were enriched in serum, exosomes, cytotoxic t-cells,and B-cells.Our study represents the next important step in translational research for a miRNA-based AD test. | Nicole Ludwig Tobias Fehlmann Fabian Kern Manfred Gogol Walter Maetzler Stephanie Deutscher Simone Gurlit Claudia Schulte Anna-Katharina von Thaler Christian Deuschle Florian Metzger Daniela Berg Ulrike Suenkel Verena Keller Christina Backes Hans-Peter Lenhof Eckart Meese Andreas Keller | 2019 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2019,17,4: | 2

Single-stage tubular urethral reconstruction using oral grafts is an alternative to classical staged approach for selected penile urethral strictures显示文摘Penile urethral strictures have been managed by a staged surgical approach. In selected cases, spongiofibrosis can be excised,a neo-urethral plate created using buccal mucosa graft(BMG)and tubularized during the same procedure, performing a“twoin-one”stage approach. We aim to identify stricture factors which indicate suitability for this two-in-one stage approach. We assess surgical outcome and compare with staged reconstruction. We conducted an observational descriptive study. The data were prospectively collected from two-in-one stage and staged penile urethroplasties using BMG in a single center between 2007 and 2017.The minimum follow-up was 6 months.Outcomes were assessed clinically, radiologically, and by flow-rate analysis.Failure was defined as recurrent stricture or any subsequent surgical or endoscopic intervention.Descriptive analysis of stricture characteristics and statistical comparison was made between groups.Of 425 penile urethroplasties,139 met the inclusion criteria:59 two-in-one stage and 80 staged. The mean stricture length was 2.8 cm(single stage)and 4.5 cm(staged).Etiology was lichen sclerosus(LS)52.5%(single stage)and 73.8%hypospadias related(staged).40.7%of patients had previous failed urethroplasties in the single-stage group and 81.2%in the staged. The most common stricture locations were navicular fossa(39.0%)and distal penile urethra(59.3%)in the single-stage group and mid or proximal penile urethra(58.7%)in the staged group.Success rates were 89.8%(single stage)and 81.3%(staged).A trend toward a single-stage approach for select penile urethral strictures was noted. We conclude that a single-stage substitution penile urethroplasty using BMG as a“two-in-one”approach is associated with excellent functional outcomes. The most suitable strictures for this approach are distal, primary, and LS-related strictures. | Felix Campos-Juanatey Simon Bugeja Mariya Dragova Anastasia V Frost Stella L Ivaz Daniela E Andrich Anthony R Mundy | 2020 | Asian Journal of Andrology2020,22,2: | 1
