| 2 | Recent advances on the association of apoptosis in chronic non healing diabetic wound显示文摘Generally, wounds are of two categories, such as chronic and acute. Chronic wounds takes time to heal when compared to the acute wounds. Chronic wounds include vasculitis, non healing ulcer, pyoderma gangrenosum, and diseases that cause ischemia. Chronic wounds are rapidly increasing among the elderly population with dysfunctional valves in their lower extremity deep veins, ulcer, neuropathic foot and pressure ulcers. The process of the healing of wounds has several steps with the involvement of immune cells and several other cell types. There are many evidences supporting the hypothesis that apoptosis of immune cells is involved in the wound healing process by ending inflammatory condition. It is also involved in the resolution of various phases of tissue repair. During final steps of wound healing most of the endothelial cells, macrophagesand myofibroblasts undergo apoptosis or exit from the wound, leaving a mass that contains few cells and consists mostly of collagen and other extracellular matrix proteins to provide strength to the healing tissue. | 3 | Antidiabetic activity of methanolic bark extract of Alhizia odoratissima Benth.in alloxan induced diabetic albino mice显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antidiabetic potential of methanolic extract of Albizia odoratissima Benth.bark in alloxan induced diabetic mice.Methods:Group-Ⅰ(normal control) mice received only basal diet without any treatment.In Group-Ⅱ(Diabetic control) mice,diabetes was induced by alloxan(150 mg/kg i.p.) and received only Tween 80.5%v/v in normal saline. | 8 | Choriocapillaris changes in dry age-related macular degeneration and geographic atrophy: a review显示文摘Age-related macular degeneration(AMD)is a leading cause of central vision loss worldwide.The progression of dry AMD from early to intermediate stages is primarily characterized by increasing drusen formation and adverse impact on outer retinal cells.Late stage AMD consists of either geographic atrophy(GA),the non-exudative(dry)AMD subtype,or choroidal neovascularization,the exudative(wet)AMD subtype.GA is characterized by outer retinal and choroidal atrophy,specifically the photoreceptor layer,RPE,and choriocapillaris.Much remains to be discovered regarding the pathogenesis of AMD progression and subsequent development of GA.As the functionality of all three layers is closely linked,the temporal sequence of events that end up in atrophy is important in the understanding of the pathogenic pathway of the disease.The advent of OCTA,and particularly of swept-source technology,has allowed for depth-resolved imaging of retinal vasculature and the choriocapillaris.With the use of OCTA,recent studies demonstrate that choriocapillaris flow alterations are closely associated with the development and progression of AMD.Such changes may even possibly offer predictive value in determining progression of GA.This article reviews studies demonstrating choriocapillaris changes in dry AMD and summarizes the existing literature on the potential role of the choriocapillaris as a key factor in the pathogenesis of AMD. | Malvika Arya Almyr S.Sabrosa Jay S.Duker Nadia K.Waheed | 2018 | Eye and Vision2018,5,1: | 4 |
| 9 | Morphological changes in intraretinal microvascular abnormalities after anti-VEGF therapy visualized on optical coherence tomography angiography显示文摘Background:To examine the baseline morphological characteristics and alterations in intraretinal microvascular abnormalities(IRMAs)in response to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF)treatment,documented by optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)in diabetic eyes.Methods:In this retrospective study,IRMAs were evaluated with multimodal imaging(fundus photography,fluorescein angiography,OCTA)in treatment-naïve diabetic eyes before and after anti-VEGF treatment for diabetic macular edema(DME)and/or proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR)and compared to diabetic control eyes with similar diabetic retinopathy(DR)severity that did not receive anti-VEGF therapy.The morphological characteristics of IRMAs on enface OCTA imaging were graded by masked readers at baseline,then after anti-VEGF therapy in treated eyes or after observation in control eyes.Characterization of interval changes in an IRMA were based on the following parameters:branching,vessel caliber and area of adjacent capillary non-perfusion.Results:The treated group included 45 IRMA foci from 15 eyes of 11 patients,while the control group included 27 IRMA foci from 15 eyes of 14 patients.Following anti-VEGF treatment,enface OCTA demonstrated that 14 foci of IRMA(31%)demonstrated regression with normalization of appearance of the capillary bed,20 IRMAs(44%)remained unchanged,six IRMAs(13%)progressed with enlargement or development of new IRMAs and five IRMAs(11%)demonstrated complete obliteration defined as IRMA disappearance with advancing capillary drop-out.In the control group,17 IRMA(63%)remained stable,8 IRMAs(29.6%)progressed and 2 experienced total obliteration(7.4%).The difference in rank order between the two groups was statistically significant(p=0.022).Conclusions:In eyes with DR status post anti-VEGF therapy,foci of IRMAs have a variable course demonstrating one of four possible outcomes:regression,stabilit,progression or complete obliteration.In contrast,none of the untreated control diabetic eyes demonstrated regression of IRMAs,consistent with known progression of DR severity in high risk eyes.Morphologic evaluation of IRMAs with OCTA may help to monitor changes in retinal blood flow as well as the response to anti-VEGF treatment. | Osama A.Sorour Nihaal Mehta Caroline R.Baumal Akihiro Ishibazawa Keke Liu Eleni K.Konstantinou Sarah Martin Phillip Braun A.Yasin Alibhai Malvika Arya Andre J.Witkin Jay S.Duker Nadia K.Waheed | 2020 | Eye and Vision2020,7,1: | 4 |

The power conversion efficiency(PCE) of perovskite solar cells(PSCs) is currently reaching parity(>25 percent), an accomplishment attained over past decades. PSCs are seen as perovskites sandwiched between an electron transporting material(ETM) and a hole transporting material(HTM). As a primary component of PSCs, HTM has been shown to have a considerable effect on solar energy harvesting, carrier extraction and transport, crystallization of perovskite, stability, and price. In PSCs, it is still necessary to use a HTM.While perovskites are capable of conducting holes, they are present in trace amounts, necessitating the use of an HTM layer for efficient charge extraction. In this review, we provide an understanding of the significant forms of HTM accessible(inorganic, polymeric and small molecule-based HTMs), to motivate further research and development of such materials. | 19 | Control of UPQC Based on Steady State Linear Kalman Filter for Compensation of Power Quality Problems显示文摘A frequency lock loop(FLL)based steady state linear Kalman filter(SSLKF)for unified power quality conditioner(UPQC)control in three-phase systems is introduced.The SSLKF provides a highly accurate and fast estimation of grid frequency and the fundamental components(FCs)of the input signals.The Kalman filter is designed using an optimized filtering technique and intrinsic adaptive bandwidth architecture,and is easily integrated into a multiple model system.Therefore,the Kalman state estimator is fast and simple.The fundamental positive sequence components(FPSCs)of the grid voltages in a UPQC system are estimated via these SSLKF-FLL based filters.The estimation of reference signals for a UPQC controller is based on these FPSCs.Therefore,both active filters of a UPQC can perform one and more functions towards improving power quality in a distribution network.In addition to the SSLKF-FLL based algorithm,a bat optimization algorithm(based on the echolocation phenomenon of bats)is implemented to estimate the value of the proportional integral(PI)controller gains.The bat algorithm has a tendency to automatically zoom into a region where a promising alternative solution occurs,preventing the solution from becoming trapped in a local minima.The complete three-phase UPQC is simulated in the Matlab/Simulink platform and the hardware is tested under various power quality problems. | Sayed Javed Alam Sabha Raj Arya | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering2020,6,2: | 2 |
