| 2 | Adenoviral gene therapy in gastric cancer: A review显示文摘Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. With current therapeutic approaches the prognosis of gastric cancer is very poor, as gastric cancer accounts for the second most common cause of death in cancer related deaths. Gastric cancer like almost all other cancers has a molecular genetic basis which relies on disruption in normal cellular regulatory mechanisms regarding cell growth, apoptosis and cell division. Thus novel therapeutic approaches such as gene therapy promise to become the alternative choice of treatment in gastric cancer. In gene therapy, suicide genes, tumor suppressor genes and anti-angiogenesis genes among many others are introduced to cancer cells via vectors. Some of the vectors widely used in gene therapy are Adenoviral vectors. | 5 | Smart scaffolds in bone tissue engineering: A systematic review of literature显示文摘AIM: To improve osteogenic differentiation and attachment of cells.METHODS: An electronic search was conducted inPub Med from January 2004 to December 2013. Studies which performed smart modifications on conventional bone scaffold materials were included. Scaffolds with controlled release or encapsulation of bioactive molecules were not included. Experiments which did not investigate response of cells toward the scaffold(cell attachment, proliferation or osteoblastic differentiation) were excluded. RESULTS: Among 1458 studies, 38 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The main scaffold varied extensively among the included studies. Smart modifications included addition of growth factors(group Ⅰ-11 studies), extracellular matrix-like molecules(group Ⅱ-13 studies) and nanoparticles(nano-HA)(group Ⅲ-17 studies). In all groups, surface coating was the most commonly applied approach for smart modification of scaffolds. In group I, bone morphogenetic proteins were mainly used as growth factor stabilized on polycaprolactone(PCL). In group Ⅱ, collagen 1 in combination with PCL, hydroxyapatite(HA) and tricalcium phosphate were the most frequent scaffolds used. In the third group, nano-HA with PCL and chitosan were used the most. | 7 | Stool-based DNA testing,a new noninvasive method for colorectal cancer screening,the first report from Iran显示文摘AIM:To detect tumor-associated DNA changes in stool samples among Iranian patients with colorectal cancer(CRC)compared to healthy individuals using BAT-26,p16 hypermethylation and long DNA markers.METHODS:Stool DNA was isolated from 45 subjects including 25 CRC patients and 20 healthy individuals using a new,fast and easy extraction method.Long DNA associated with tumor was detected using polymerase chain reaction method.Microsatellite studies were performed utilizing denaturating polyacrylamide gel to determine the instability of BAT-26.Methylation status of p16 promoter was analyzed using methylation-specific PCR(MSP).RESULTS:The results showed a significant difference in existence of long DNA(16 in patients vs 1 in controls,P < 0.001)and p16(5 in patients vs none in controls,P = 0.043)in the stool samples of two groups.Long DNA was detected in 64% of CRC patients;whereas just one of the healthy individuals was positive for Long DNA.p16 methylation was found in 20% of patients and in none of healthy individuals.Instability of BAT-26 was not detected in any of stool samples.CONCLUSION:We could detect colorectal cancer related genetic alterations by analyzing stool DNA witha sensitivity of 64% and 20% and a specificity of 95% and 100% for Long DNA and p16 respectively.A non-invasive molecular stool-based DNA testing can provide a screening strategy in high-risk individuals.However,additional testing on more samples is necessary from Iranian subjects to determine the exact specificity and sensitivity of these markers. | Mohammad Reza Abbaszadegan Alireza Tavasoli Arash Velayati Hamid Reza Sima Hassan Vosooghinia Mehdi Farzadnia Hamid Asadzedeh Mehran Gholamin Ezzat Dadkhah Azadeh Aarabi | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,10: | 14 |

| 10 | Resistance of Helicobacter pylori to furazolidone and levofloxacin: A viewpoint显示文摘In their review, Arslan et al[1] did not describe the status of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) treatment with furazolidone and the resistance to this antibiotic. We have presented different surveys showing the resistance of H. pylori to furazolidone from Asia and South America. The resistance rates varied but were mostly low(< 5%). There are not enough data on its efficacy and resistance in the United States and Europe. H. pylori mutations occurring in the oor D gene, including A041 G, A122 G, C349A(G), A78 G, A112 G, A335 G, C156 T and C165 T, and in the por D gene, including G353 A, A356 G, C357 T, C347 T, C347 G and C346 A, have been indicated to be possibly related to the observed resistance. Additionally, to complete Arslan et al 's statement regarding levofloxacin resistance, it should be noted that compound mutations of N87 A, A88 N and V65 I at codon Asn-87 were recently observed in the gyr A gene for the first time. | 11 | Watershed classification by remote sensing indices: A fuzzy c-means clustering approach显示文摘Determining the relatively similar hydrological properties of the watersheds is very crucial in order to readily classify them for management practices such as flood and soil erosion control. This study aimed to identify homogeneous hydrological watersheds using remote sensing data in western Iran. To achieve this goal, remote sensing indices including SAVI, LAI, NDMI, NDVI and snow cover, were extracted from MODIS data over the period 2000 to 2015. Then, a fuzzy method was used to clustering the watersheds based on the extracted indices. A fuzzy c-mean(FCM) algorithm enabled to classify 38 watersheds in three homogeneous groups.The optimal number of clusters was determined through evaluation of partition coefficient, partition entropy function and trial and error. The results indicated three homogeneous regions identified by the fuzzy c-mean clustering and remote sensing product which are consistent with the variations of topography and climate of the study area. | 12 | Prediction of roadheaders' performance using artificial neural network approaches (MLP and KOSFM)显示文摘Application of mechanical excavators is one of the most commonly used excavation methods because it can bring the project more productivity, accuracy and safety. Among the mechanical excavators, roadheaders are mechanical miners which have been extensively used in tunneling, mining and civil industries. Performance prediction is an important issue for successful roadheader application and generally deals with machine selection, production rate and bit consumption. The main aim of this research is to investigate the cutting performance(instantaneous cutting rates(ICRs)) of medium-duty roadheaders by using artificial neural network(ANN) approach. There are different categories for ANNs, but based on training algorithm there are two main kinds: supervised and unsupervised. The multi-layer perceptron(MLP) and Kohonen self-organizing feature map(KSOFM) are the most widely used neural networks for supervised and unsupervised ones, respectively. For gaining this goal, a database was primarily provided from roadheaders' performance and geomechanical characteristics of rock formations in tunnels and drift galleries in Tabas coal mine, the largest and the only fullymechanized coal mine in Iran. Then the database was analyzed in order to yield the most important factor for ICR by using relatively important factor in which Garson equation was utilized. The MLP network was trained by 3 input parameters including rock mass properties, rock quality designation(RQD), intact rock properties such as uniaxial compressive strength(UCS) and Brazilian tensile strength(BTS), and one output parameter(ICR). In order to have more validation on MLP outputs, KSOFM visualization was applied. The mean square error(MSE) and regression coefficient(R) of MLP were found to be 5.49 and 0.97, respectively. Moreover, KSOFM network has a map size of 8 5 and final quantization and topographic errors were 0.383 and 0.032, respectively. The results show that MLP neural networks have a strong capability to predict and evaluate the performance of medium-duty roadheaders in coal measure rocks. Furthermore, it is concluded that KSOFM neural network is an efficient way for understanding system behavior and knowledge extraction. | 15 | Trend analysis and comparison of basic parameters for tunnel blast design models显示文摘One of the most important factors influencing on a tunnel blast efficiency is the proper design of blasting pattern. Among blasting parameters, blasthole diameter and tunnel face area are more significant so that any change in these parameters could finally affect on specific charge and specific drilling. There are mainly two groups of methods for tunnel blast design categorized based on the parallel cuts and angular cuts. In this research, a software for tunnel blast design was developed to analyze the effect and sensitiveness of blasthole diameter and the tunnel face area on blasting results in different blast design models. Using the software, it is quickly possible to determine specific charge, specific drilling and number of blastholes for each blast design model. The relations between both of blasthole diameters and the tunnel face area with the above parameters in different blast design models were then investigated to yield a set of equations with the highest correlations to compare the methods. The results showed that angular method requires more blasthole numbers than parallel method in similar condition(blasthole diameter and tunnel face area). | 18 | Weathering and soils formation on different parent materials in Golestan Province,Northern Iran显示文摘Geochemical,mineralogical,and micromorphological characteristics of soils and their relevant parent rocks including loess,ignimbrite,sandstone and limestone were investigated to identify the soil-parent material uniformity and the weathering degree of soils in Golestan Province,northern Iran.Highly developed Calcixerolls and moderately developed Haploxerepts were formed on loess and limestone,respectively.In contrast,the soils formed on ignimbrite and sandstone were nondeveloped Entisols.Illite was the dominant clay mineral found in ignimbrite and sandstone in both the A horizon and parent material.In loess derived soils however,smectite was dominant especially in the Bt horizon compared to its parent material indicating partly to its pedogenic formation.In limestone,illite and vermiculite were dominant both in the A and C horizons.Ti/Zr ratio proved that the studied soils were closely related to their underlying parent materials geochemically.Chemical index of alteration(CIA),micromorphological index of soil development(MISECA),smectite/illite+chlorite ratio and magnetic susceptibility were applied to investigate the degree of soil development.Results showed that the most and the least developed soils were those formed on loess deposits and limestone,respectively.Application of the different geochemical and pedogenetic approaches was proved to be useful in identifying the relevance of soils to their underlying parent materials and also their degree of development. | Maryam MAHMOODI Farhad KI-IORMALI Arash AMINI Shamsollah AYOUBI | 2016 | Journal of Mountain Science2016,13,5: | 6 |
| 19 | Decellularized peripheral nerve grafts by a modified protocol for repair of rat sciatic nerve injury显示文摘Studies have shown that acellular nerve xenografts do not require immunosuppression and use of acellular nerve xenografts for repair of peripheral nerve injury is safe and effective.However,there is currently no widely accepted standard chemical decellularization method.The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficiency of bovine-derived nerves decellularized by the modified Hudson’s protocol in the repair of rat sciatic nerve injury.In the modified Hudson’s protocol,Triton X-200 was replaced by Triton X-100,and DNase and RNase were used to prepare accelular nerve xenografts.The efficiency of bovine-derived nerves decellularized by the modified Hudson’s protocol was tested in vitro by hematoxylin&eosin,Alcian blue,Masson’s trichrome,and Luxol fast blue staining,immunohistochemistry,and biochemical assays.The decellularization approach excluded cells,myelin,and axons of nerve xenografts,without affecting the organization of nerve xenografts.The decellularized nerve xenograft was used to bridge a 7 mm-long sciatic nerve defect to evaluate its efficiency in the repair of peripheral nerve injury.At 8 weeks after transplantation,sciatic function index in rats subjected to transplantation of acellular nerve xenograft was similar to that in rats undergoing transplantation of nerve allograft.Morphological analysis revealed that there were a large amount of regenerated myelinated axons in acellular nerve xenograft;the number of Schwann cells in the acellular nerve xenograft was similar to that in the nerve allograft.These findings suggest that acellular nerve xenografts prepared by the modified Hudson’s protocol can be used for repair of peripheral nerve injury.This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee,Research and Technology Chancellor of Guilan University of Medical Sciences,Iran(approval No.IR.GUMS.REC.1395.332)on February 11,2017. | Arash Zaminy Sara Sayad-Fathi Farshad Moharrami Kasmaie Zohreh Jahromi Adib Zendedel | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,6: | 6 |
