| 3 | interrelationships between ghrelin, insulin and glucose homeostasis: physiological relevance显示文摘Ghrelin is a 28 amino acid peptide mainly derived from the oxyntic gland of the stomach. Both acylated(AG) and unacylated(UAG) forms of ghrelin are found in the circulation. Initially, AG was considered as the only bioactive form of ghrelin. However, recent advances indicate that both AG and UAG exert distinct and common effects in organisms. Soon after its discovery, ghrelin was shown to promote appetite and adiposity in animal and human models. In response to these anabolic effects, an impressive number of elements have suggested the influence of ghrelin on the regulation of metabolic functions and the development of obesityrelated disorders. However, due to the complexity ofits biochemical nature and the physiological processes it governs, some of the effects of ghrelin are still debated in the literature. Evidence suggests that ghrelin influences glucose homeostasis through the modulation of insulin secretion and insulin receptor signaling. On the other hand, insulin was also shown to influence circulating levels of ghrelin. | 4 | An evaluation framework for energy aware buildings using statistical model checking显示文摘Cyber-physical systems are to be found in numerous applications throughout society.The principal barrier to develop trustworthy cyber-physical systems is the lack of expressive modelling and specification formalisms supported by efficient tools and methodologies.To overcome this barrier,we extend in this paper the modelling formalism of the tool UPPAAL-SMC to stochastic hybrid automata,thus providing the expressive power required for modelling complex cyber-physical systems.The application of Statistical Model Checking provides a highly scalable technique for analyzing performance properties of this formalisms.A particular kind of cyber-physical systems are Smart Grids which together with Intelligent,Energy Aware Buildings will play a major role in achieving an energy efficient society of the future.In this paper we present a framework in UPPAAL-SMC for energy aware buildings allowing to evaluate the performance of proposed control strategies in terms of their induced comfort and energy profiles under varying environmental settings(e.g.weather,user behavior etc.).To demonstrate the intended use and usefulness of our framework,we present an application to the Hybrid Systems Verification Benchmark. | DAVID Alexandre DU DeHui LARSEN Kim G. | 9 | Evolving technologies for growing,imaging and analyzing 3D root system architecture of crop plants显示文摘A plant's ability to maintain or improve its yield under limiting conditions,such as nutrient de ficiency or drought,can be strongly in fluenced by root system architecture(RSA),the three-dimensional distribution of the different root types in the soil. The ability to image,track and quantify these root system attributes in a dynamic fashion is a useful tool in assessing desirable genetic and physiological root traits. Recent advances in imaging technology and phenotyping software have resulted in substantive progress in describing and quantifying RSA. We have designed a hydroponic growth system which retains the three-dimensional RSA of the plant root system,while allowing for aeration,solution replenishment and the imposition of nutrient treatments,as well as high-quality imaging of the root system. The simplicity and flexibility of the system allows for modi fications tailored to the RSA of different crop species and improved throughput.
