3Calycosin improves cognitive function in a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease by activating the protein kinase C pathway显示文摘The major pathological changes in Alzheimer's disease are beta amyloid deposits and cognitive impairment. Calycosin is a typical phytoestrogen derived from radix astragali that binds to estrogen receptors to produce estrogen-like effects. Radix astragali Calycosin has been shown to relieve cognitive impairment induced by diabetes mellitus, suggesting calycosin may improve the cognitive function of Alzheimer's disease patients. The protein kinase C pathway is upstream of the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway and exerts a neuroprotective effect by regulating Alzheimer's disease-related beta amyloid degradation. We hypothesized that calycosin improves the cognitive function of a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease by activating the protein kinase C pathway. Various doses of calycosin(10, 20 and 40 mg/kg) were intraperitoneally injected into APP/PS1 transgenic mice that model Alzheimer's disease. Calycosin diminished hippocampal beta amyloid, Tau protein, interleukin-1 beta, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, acetylcholinesterase and malondialdehyde levels in a dose-dependent manner, and increased acetylcholine and glutathione activities. The administration of a protein kinase C inhibitor, calphostin C, abolished the neuroprotective effects of calycosin including improving cognitive ability, and anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. 4Recent advances in gel polymer electrolyte for high-performance lithium batteries显示文摘Lithium batteries (LBs) have become increasingly important energy storage systems in our daily life. However, their practical applications are still severely plagued by the safety issues from liquid electrolyte, especially when the batteries are exposed to mechanical, thermal, or electrical abuse conditions. Gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) are being considered as an effective solution to replace currently available organic liquid electrolyte for building safer LBs. This review provides recent advancements in GPEs applied for high-performance LBs. On the one hand, from the environmental and economic point of view, the skeletons of GPEs changed from traditional polymer to renewable and degradable polymer. On the other hand, in addition to being as a component with good electrochemical and physical characterizations, the GPEs also need to provide some functions for addressing the concerns of lithium (Li) dendrites, unstable cathode electrolyte interface, dissolution and migration of transition metal ions,'shuttle effect' of polysulfides, and so on. 6Carbon pools and fluxes in the China Seas and adjacent oceans显示文摘The China Seas include the South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea. Located off the Northwestern Pacific margin, covering 4700000 km^2 from tropical to northern temperate zones, and including a variety of continental margins/basins and depths, the China Seas provide typical cases for carbon budget studies. The South China Sea being a deep basin and part of the Western Pacific Warm Pool is characterized by oceanic features; the East China Sea with a wide continental shelf, enormous terrestrial discharges and open margins to the West Pacific, is featured by strong cross-shelf materials transport; the Yellow Sea is featured by the confluence of cold and warm waters; and the Bohai Sea is a shallow semiclosed gulf with strong impacts of human activities. Three large rivers, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Pearl River, flow into the East China Sea, the Bohai Sea, and the South China Sea, respectively. The Kuroshio Current at the outer margin of the Chinese continental shelf is one of the two major western boundary currents of the world oceans and its strength and position directly affect the regional climate of China. These characteristics make the China Seas a typical case of marginal seas to study carbon storage and fluxes. This paper systematically analyzes the literature data on the carbon pools and fluxes of the Bohai Sea,Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea, including different interfaces(land-sea, sea-air, sediment-water, and marginal sea-open ocean) and different ecosystems(mangroves, wetland, seagrass beds, macroalgae mariculture, coral reefs, euphotic zones, and water column). Among the four seas, the Bohai Sea and South China Sea are acting as CO_2 sources, releasing about0.22 and 13.86–33.60 Tg C yr^(-1) into the atmosphere, respectively, whereas the Yellow Sea and East China Sea are acting as carbon sinks, absorbing about 1.15 and 6.92–23.30 Tg C yr^(-1) of atmospheric CO_2, respectively. Overall, if only the CO_2 exchange at the sea-air interface is considered, the Chinese marginal seas appear to be a source of atmospheric CO_2, with a net release of 6.01–9.33 Tg C yr^(-1), mainly from the inputs of rivers and adjacent oceans. The riverine dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) input into the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 5.04, 14.60, and 40.14 Tg C yr^(-1),respectively. The DIC input from adjacent oceans is as high as 144.81 Tg C yr^(-1), significantly exceeding the carbon released from the seas to the atmosphere. In terms of output, the depositional fluxes of organic carbon in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 2.00, 3.60, 7.40, and 5.92 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The fluxes of organic carbon from the East China Sea and South China Sea to the adjacent oceans are 15.25–36.70 and 43.93 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The annual carbon storage of mangroves, wetlands, and seagrass in Chinese coastal waters is 0.36–1.75 Tg C yr^(-1), with a dissolved organic carbon(DOC) output from seagrass beds of up to 0.59 Tg C yr^(-1). Removable organic carbon flux by Chinese macroalgae mariculture account for 0.68 Tg C yr^(-1) and the associated POC depositional and DOC releasing fluxes are 0.14 and 0.82 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. Thus, in total, the annual output of organic carbon, which is mainly DOC, in the China Seas is 81.72–104.56 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the East China Sea to the adjacent oceans is 15.00–35.00 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the South China Sea is 31.39 Tg C yr^(-1). 7Neural Network-Based Adaptive Motion Control for a Mobile Robot with Unknown Longitudinal Slipping显示文摘When the mobile robot performs certain motion tasks in complex environment, wheel slipping inevitably occurs due to the wet or icy road and other reasons, thus directly influences the motion control accuracy. To address unknown wheel longitudinal slipping problem for mobile robot, a RBF neural network approach based on whole model approximation is presented. The real-time data acquisition of inertial measure unit(IMU), encoders and other sensors is employed to get the mobile robot’s position and orientation in the movement, which is applied to compensate the unknown bounds of the longitudinal slipping using the adaptive technique. 8Cu Partitioning Behavior and Its Effect on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 0.12C-1.33Mn-0.55Cu Q&P Steel显示文摘Cu, as an austenitic stable element, is added to steel in order to suppress the adverse effects of high content of C and Mn on welding. Based on C partitioning, Cu and Mn partitioning can further improve the stability of retained austenite in the intercritical annealing process. A sample of low carbon steel containing Cu was treated by the intercritical annealing, then quenching process(I&Q). Subsequently, another sample was treated by the intercritical annealing, subsequent austenitizing, then quenching and partitioning process(I&Q&P). The effects of element partitioning behavior in intercritical region on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel were studied. The results showed that after the I&Q process ferrite and martensite could be obtained, with C, Cu and Mn enriched in the martensite. When intercritically heated at 800 ℃, Cu and Mn were partitioned from ferrite to austenite, which was enhanced gradually as the heating time was increased. This partitioning effect was the most obvious when the sample was heated at 800 ℃ for 40 min. At the early stage of α→γ transformation, the formation of γ was controlled by the partitioning of carbon, while at the later stage, it was mainly affected by the partitioning of Cu and Mn. After the I&Q&P process, the partitioning effect of Cu and Mn element could be retained. C was assembled in retained austenite during the quenching and partitioning process. The strength and elongation of I&Q&P steel was increased by 5 305 MPa% compared with that subjected to Q&P process. The volume fraction of retained autensite was increased from 8.5% to 11.2%. 9Effect of cDNA fragments in different length derived from Potato Virus Y coat protein gene on the induction of RNA-mediated virus resistance显示文摘We have reported that cDNA derived from entire coat protein (CP) gene of potato virus Y (PVY) could induce resistance to PVY infection in transgenic tobacco plants, and the resistance was further demonstrated to be RNA-mediated rather than coat protein-mediated. In this study, we cloned cDNA fragments of 202 bp, 417 bp, and 603 bp in length derived from the 3′ end of the PVY CP gene, and the cDNA fragments were introduced into tobacco (var. NC89) plants via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system. The results of resistance assay showed that the CP cDNA fragments of 417 bp and 603 bp could confer resistance of the trans-genic plants to PVY infection, but the fragment of 202 bp in length could not. Molecular analysis revealed that the resistance was RNA-mediated, which is believed to be a result of post-transcriptional gene silencing. 10Mining geographic episode association patterns of abnormal events in global earth science data显示文摘Abnormal events in earth science have great influence on both the natural envi-ronment and the human society. Finding association patterns among these events has great significance. Because data in earth science has characteristics of mass,high dimension,spatial autocorrelation and time delay,existing mining technolo-gies cannot be directly used on it. We propose a RSNN (range-based searching nearest neighbors) spatial clustering algorithm to reduce the data size and auto-correlation. Based on the clustered data,we propose a GEAM (geographic episode association pattern mining) algorithm which can deal with events time lags and find interesting patterns with specific constraints,to mine the association patterns. We carried out experiments on global climate datasets and found many interesting association patterns. 16THE EFFECTS OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL PENNY-SHAPED CRACKS ON ZONAL DISINTEGRATION OF THE SURROUNDING ROCK MASSES AROUND A DEEP CIRCULAR TUNNEL显示文摘In this study, it was assumed that three-dimensional penny-shaped cracks existed in deep rock masses. A new non-Euclidean model was established, in which the effects of pennyshaped cracks and axial in-situ stress on zonal disintegration of deep rock masses were taken into account. Based on the non-Euclidean model, the stress intensity factors at tips of the pennyshaped cracks were determined. The strain energy density factor was applied to investigate the occurrence of fractured zones. It was observed from the numerical results that the magnitude and location of fractured zones were sensitive to micro- and macro-mechanical parameters, as well as the value of in-situ stress. 17Roles of various Ni species on TiO2 in enhancing photocatalytic H2 evolution显示文摘Low-cost nickels can be used as cocatalyst to improve the performance of photocatalysts,which may be promising materials applied in the field of photocatalytic water splitting.In this study,different nickel species Ni,Ni(OH)2,NiO,NiOx,and NiS are used to modified titanium dioxide(P25)to investigate their roles on the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activities.UV-visible,X-ray diffraction(XRD),Brunner-Emmet-Teller(BET)measurements,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis etc.are employed to characterize the physical and chemical properties of catalysts.The results indicate that all the nickel species can improve the photocatalytic hydrogen production activity of P25.The P25 modified with NiOx and NiS has more superior photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activities than those modified with other nickel species.The reason for this is that NiOx and NiS can form p-n junctions with P25 respectively.In addition,NiOx can be selectively deposited on the active sites of P25 via in situ the photodeposition method and NiS is beneficial for H+reacting with photo-excited electrons.Xiaoping CHEN Jihai XIONG Jinming SHI Song XIA Shuanglin GUI Wenfeng SHANGGUAN 2019Frontiers in Energy2019,13,4:2
18One Hundred Years of Influenza Since the 1918 Pandemic—Is China Prepared Today?显示文摘Almost 100 years after the 1918 influenza pandemic,China experienced its largest,most widespread epidemic of human infections with avian influenza A(H7N9),the influenza virus with the greatest pandemic potential of all influenza viruses assessed to date by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Influenza Risk Assessment Tool.This historical review describes how China was affected by the 1918,1958,1968,and 2009 influenza pandemics,records milestones in China’s capacity to detect and respond to influenza threats,and identifies remaining challenges for pandemic preparedness.This review suggests that past influenza pandemics have improved China’s national capabilities such that China has become a global leader in influenza detection and response.Further enhancing China’s pandemic preparedness to address remaining challenges requires government commitment and increased investment in China’s public health and healthcare systems.Ran Zhang Xiaoping Dong Dayan Wang Luzhao Feng Lei Zhou Ruiqi Ren Carolyn Greene Ying Song Alexander J.Millman Eduardo Azziz-Baumgartner Zijian Feng 2019China CDC weekly2019,1,4:2
19Immune Responses in Wild-type Mice Against Prion Proteins Induced Using a DNA Prime-Protein Boost Strategy显示文摘Objective To break immune tolerance to prion (PrP) proteins using DNA vaccines.Methods Four different human prion DNA vaccine candidates were constructed based on the pcDNA3.1 vector:PrP‐WT expressing wild‐type PrP,Ubiq‐PrP expressing PrP fused to ubiquitin,PrP‐LII expressing PrP fused to the lysosomal integral membrane protein type II lysosome‐targeting signal,and PrP‐ER expressing PrP locating the ER.Using a prime‐boost strategy,three‐doses of DNA vaccine were injected intramuscularly into Balb/c mice,followed by two doses of PrP protein.Two weeks after the last immunization,sera and spleens were collected and PrP‐specific humoral and cellular immune responses evaluated by ELISA and ELISPOT tests.Results Higher levels of serum PrP antibodies were detected in mice vaccinated using the strategy of DNA priming followed by protein boosting.Of these,WT‐PrP,Ubiq‐PrP,and PrP‐LII induced significantly higher humoral responses.ELISPOT tests showed markedly increased numbers of IFN‐γ‐secreting T cells in mice vaccinated using the strategy of DNA priming followed by protein boosting after stimulation with recombinant PrP23‐90 and PrP23‐231.PrP‐ER inducedthe strongest T‐cell response.Conclusion Prion vaccines can break tolerance to PrP proteins and induce PrP‐specific humoral and cellular immune responses.HAN YanLing LI Yuan SONG Juan WANG Ying SHI Qi CHEN Cao ZHANG BaoYun GUO Yan LI ChaoPing HAN Jun DONG XiaoPing 2011Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,5:2
20The protective effect and crucial biological pathways analysis of Trametes lactinea mycelium polysaccharides on acute alcoholic liver injury in mice based on transcriptomics and metabonomics显示文摘Trametes lactinea mycelia polysaccharides(TLMPS)have a wide range of bioactivities.The potential mechanisms of action of TLMPS against acute alcohol-induced liver injury in vivo were investigated by analyzing the physical and chemical properties of TLMPS and its protective effects on a mouse model of alcoholic liver injury.TLMPS protected the liver against alcohol-induced injury,as evidenced by the reduced alcohol-induced elevation of the liver index,serum biochemical indices,and maintenance of hepatic morphology.Potential mechanisms were analyzed using transcriptome and metabolome analyses.The transcriptome data revealed the involvement of many differentially expressed genes in chemical carcinogenesis,drug metabolism,and metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450.The metabolome analysis revealed that TLMPS significantly regulated specific metabolites in the liver,including organic acids,lipids,nucleosides,and organic oxygen compounds.KEGG enrichment analysis revealed the signifi cant involvement of different metabolites in choline metabolism,ATP-binding cassette transporters,and glycerophospholipid metabolism.Assessment of the changes in gene expression and metabolites revealed the significantly different expression of several genes encoding key enzymes and metabolites in choline metabolism pathway.The collective fi ndings confi rmed that choline metabolism plays an important role in the protective effects of TLMPS against acute alcoholic liver injury.Jinbin Hao Liyun Ye Guoliang Meng Yanjiao Song Junsheng Fu Xiaoping Wu 2021Food Science and Human Wellness2021,10,4:2
