1Carbon pools and fluxes in the China Seas and adjacent oceans显示文摘The China Seas include the South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea. Located off the Northwestern Pacific margin, covering 4700000 km^2 from tropical to northern temperate zones, and including a variety of continental margins/basins and depths, the China Seas provide typical cases for carbon budget studies. The South China Sea being a deep basin and part of the Western Pacific Warm Pool is characterized by oceanic features; the East China Sea with a wide continental shelf, enormous terrestrial discharges and open margins to the West Pacific, is featured by strong cross-shelf materials transport; the Yellow Sea is featured by the confluence of cold and warm waters; and the Bohai Sea is a shallow semiclosed gulf with strong impacts of human activities. Three large rivers, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Pearl River, flow into the East China Sea, the Bohai Sea, and the South China Sea, respectively. The Kuroshio Current at the outer margin of the Chinese continental shelf is one of the two major western boundary currents of the world oceans and its strength and position directly affect the regional climate of China. These characteristics make the China Seas a typical case of marginal seas to study carbon storage and fluxes. This paper systematically analyzes the literature data on the carbon pools and fluxes of the Bohai Sea,Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea, including different interfaces(land-sea, sea-air, sediment-water, and marginal sea-open ocean) and different ecosystems(mangroves, wetland, seagrass beds, macroalgae mariculture, coral reefs, euphotic zones, and water column). Among the four seas, the Bohai Sea and South China Sea are acting as CO_2 sources, releasing about0.22 and 13.86–33.60 Tg C yr^(-1) into the atmosphere, respectively, whereas the Yellow Sea and East China Sea are acting as carbon sinks, absorbing about 1.15 and 6.92–23.30 Tg C yr^(-1) of atmospheric CO_2, respectively. Overall, if only the CO_2 exchange at the sea-air interface is considered, the Chinese marginal seas appear to be a source of atmospheric CO_2, with a net release of 6.01–9.33 Tg C yr^(-1), mainly from the inputs of rivers and adjacent oceans. The riverine dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) input into the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 5.04, 14.60, and 40.14 Tg C yr^(-1),respectively. The DIC input from adjacent oceans is as high as 144.81 Tg C yr^(-1), significantly exceeding the carbon released from the seas to the atmosphere. In terms of output, the depositional fluxes of organic carbon in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 2.00, 3.60, 7.40, and 5.92 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The fluxes of organic carbon from the East China Sea and South China Sea to the adjacent oceans are 15.25–36.70 and 43.93 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The annual carbon storage of mangroves, wetlands, and seagrass in Chinese coastal waters is 0.36–1.75 Tg C yr^(-1), with a dissolved organic carbon(DOC) output from seagrass beds of up to 0.59 Tg C yr^(-1). Removable organic carbon flux by Chinese macroalgae mariculture account for 0.68 Tg C yr^(-1) and the associated POC depositional and DOC releasing fluxes are 0.14 and 0.82 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. Thus, in total, the annual output of organic carbon, which is mainly DOC, in the China Seas is 81.72–104.56 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the East China Sea to the adjacent oceans is 15.00–35.00 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the South China Sea is 31.39 Tg C yr^(-1). 2Processes of coastal ecosystem carbon sequestration and approaches for increasing carbon sink显示文摘The oceans are the largest carbon pools on Earth, and play the role of a 'buffer' in climate change. Blue carbon, the carbon(mainly organic carbon) captured by marine ecosystems, is one of the important mechanisms of marine carbon storage.Blue carbon was initially recognized only in the form of visible coastal plant carbon sequestration. In fact, microorganisms(phytoplankton, bacteria, archaea, viruses, and protozoa), which did not receive much attention in the past, account for more than 90% of the total marine biomass and are the main contributors to blue carbon. Chinese coastal seas, equivalent to 1/3 of China's total land area, have a huge carbon sink potential needing urgently research and development. In this paper, we focus on the processes and mechanisms of coastal ocean's carbon sequestration and the approaches for increasing that sequestration. We discuss the structures of coastal ecosystems, the processes of carbon cycle, and the mechanisms of carbon sequestration. Using the evolution of coastal ocean's carbon sinks in sedimentary records over geologic times, we also discuss the possible effects of natural processes and anthropogenic activities on marine carbon sinks. 3Influence of carbon sources on nutrient removal in A2/O-MBRs: Availability assessment of internal carbon source显示文摘Both internal carbon source and some external carbon sources were used to improve the nutrient removal in Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic-Membrane Bioreactor(A^2/O-MBRs), and their technical and cost analysis was investigated. The experimental results showed that the nutrient removals were improved by all the carbon source additions. The total nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency were higher in the experiments with external carbon source additions than that with internal carbon source addition. It was found that pathways of nitrogen and phosphorus transform were different dependent on different carbon source additions by the mass balance analysis. With external carbon source addition, the simultaneous nitrification and denitrification occurred in aerobic zone, and the P-uptake in aerobic phase was evident. Therefore, with addition of C-MHP(internal carbon source produced from sludge pretreatment by microwave-H_2O_2 process), the denitrification and phosphorus-uptake in anoxic zone was notable. Cost analysis showed that the unit nitrogen removal costs were 57.13 CNY/kgN of C-acetate addition and 54.48 CNY/kgN of C-MHP addition, respectively. 4Microstructural Evolution and Oxidation Resistance of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes in the Presence of Silicon Powder at High Temperatures显示文摘The microstructural evolution and oxidation resistance of multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) by directly heating silicon powder and MWCNTs in a coke bed from 1000 to 1500 ℃ are investigated with the aid of X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) and thermogravimetry-differential scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC).The results showed that the morphology and microstructure of MWCNTs did not change much after being treated from 1000 ℃ to 1200 ℃.An obvious SiC coating was formed on the surface of MWCNTs from 1300 to 1400 ℃.Up to 1500 ℃,nearly all the MWCNTs transformed into SiC nanowires.The oxidation resistance of the treated MWCNTs was improved compared with as-received ones.Non-isothermal kinetics showed that the oxidation activation energy of the treated MWCNTs reached 208 kJ/mol,much higher than 164 kJ/mol of as-received ones.Ming LUO Yawei Li Shengli Jin Shaobai Sang Lei Zhao 2012Journal of Materials Science & Technology2012,28,7:5
5Modeling the contribution of the microbial carbon pump to carbon sequestration in the South China Sea显示文摘The two key mechanisms for biologically driven carbon sequestration in oceans are the biological pump(BP) and the microbial carbon pump(MCP); the latter is scarcely simulated and quantified in the China seas. In this study, we developed a coupled physical-ecosystem model with major MCP processes in the South China Sea(SCS). The model estimated a SCSaveraged MCP rate of 1.55 mg C m^(-2) d^(-1), with an MCP-to-BP ratio of 1:6.08 when considering the BP at a depth of 1000 m.Moreover, the ecosystem responses were projected in two representative global warming scenarios where the sea surface temperature increased by 2 and 4°C. The projection suggested a declined productivity associated with the increased near-surface stratification and decreased nutrient supply, which leads to a reduction in diatom biomass and consequently the suppression of the BP. However, the relative ratio of picophytoplankton increased, inducing a higher microbial activity and a nonlinear response of MCP to the increase in temperature. 12Self-powered ammonia synthesis under ambient conditions via N_(2) discharge driven by Tesla turbine triboelectric nanogenerators显示文摘Ammonia synthesis using low-power consumption and eco-friendly methods has attracted increasing attention.Here,based on the Tesla turbine triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG),we designed a simple and effective self-powered ammonia synthesis system by N_(2) discharge.Under the driving of the simulated waste gas,the Tesla turbine TENG showed high rotation speed and high output.In addition,the performance of two Tesla turbine TENGs with different gas path connections was systematically investigated and discussed.A controllable series-parallel connection with the control of gas supply time was also proposed.Taking advantage of the intrinsic high voltage,corona discharge in a N_(2) atmosphere was simply realized by a Tesla turbine TENG.With the flow of N_(2),the generated high-energy plasma can immediately react with water molecules to directly produce ammonia.The self-powered system achieved a yield of 2.14μg h^(−1)(0.126μmol h^(−1))under ambient conditions,showing great potential for large-scale synthesis.Kai Han Jianjun Luo Jian Chen Baodong Chen Liang Xu Yawei Feng Wei Tang Zhong Lin Wang 2021Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,1:1

18Comparison of three data mining methods in predicting 5-year survival of colorectal cancer patients显示文摘The prediction of colorectal cancer(CRC) survivability has always been a challenging research issue. Considering the importance of predicting CRC patients' survival rates, we compared the performance of three data mining methods: decision trees(DTs), artificial neural networks(ANNs) and support vector machines(SVMs), for predicting 5-year survival of CRC patients to assist clinicians in making treatment decisions. The CRC dataset used to build the prediction model comes from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results(SEER) program. The 5-fold cross-validation and random forest algorithm were respectively utilized for measuring the model predictive accuracy and the importance of features. Experimental results show that the predictive accuracy of ANNs(0.73) and SVMs(0.75) were higher than that of DTs, and they also have the best result in the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve(area under curve(AUC)=0.82). 19Boosting for Distributed Online Convex Optimization显示文摘Decentralized Online Learning(DOL)extends online learning to the domain of distributed networks.However,limitations of local data in decentralized settings lead to a decrease in the accuracy of decisions or models compared to centralized methods.Considering the increasing requirement to achieve a high-precision model or decision with distributed data resources in a network,applying ensemble methods is attempted to achieve a superior model or decision with only transferring gradients or models.A new boosting method,namely Boosting for Distributed Online Convex Optimization(BD-OCO),is designed to realize the application of boosting in distributed scenarios.BD-OCO achieves the regret upper bound O(M+N/MNT)where M measures the size of the distributed network and N is the number of Weak Learners(WLs)in each node.The core idea of BD-OCO is to apply the local model to train a strong global one.BD-OCO is evaluated on the basis of eight different real-world datasets.Numerical results show that BD-OCO achieves excellent performance in accuracy and convergence,and is robust to the size of the distributed network.Yuhan Hu Yawei Zhao Lailong Luo Deke Guo 2023Tsinghua Science and Technology2023,28,4:0
