Serum γ-glutamyltransferase,alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase activity in Iranian healthy blood donor men显示文摘AIM: To determine serum γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity, and to assess their correlation with demographic and clinical findings in healthy blood donors. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was performed in 934 male blood donors, aged 18 to 68 years, who consecutively attended Tehran blood transfusion service in 2006. All participants were seronegative for HBV or HCV infections, non alcohol users, and all underwent a standard interview and anthropometric tests. Clinical and biochemical parameters including AST, ALT, and GGT activities were determined. Patients taking drugs known to cause hepatic fat deposition were excluded. For AST, ALT, and GGT variables, we used 33.33 and 66.66 percentiles, so that each of them was divided into three tertiles. RESULTS: Mean AST, ALT, and GGT activities were 25.26 ± 12.58 U/L (normal range 5-35 U/L), 33.13 ± 22.98 (normal range 5-35 U/L), and 25.11 ± 18.32 (normal range 6-37 U/L), respectively. By univariate analyses, there were significant associations between increasing AST, ALT, or GGT tertiles and age, body weight, body mass index, and waist and hip circumferences (P < 0.05). By multiple linear regression analyses, ALT was found to be positively correlated with dyslipidemia (B = 6.988, P = 0.038), whereas ALT and AST were negatively correlated with age. AST, ALT, and GGT levels had positive correlation with family history of liver disease (B = 15.763, P < 0.001), (B = 32.345, P < 0.001), (B =24.415, P < 0.001), respectively.CONCLUSION: Although we did not determine the cutoffs of the upper normal limits for AST, ALT, and GGT levels, we would suggest screening asymptomatic patients with dyslipidemia and also subjects with a family history of liver disease.Hossein Khedmat Farahnaz Fallahian Hassan Abolghasemi Bashir Hajibeigi Zohre Attarchi Farshid Alaeddini Mohammad Taghi Holisaz Masoumeh Pourali Shahin Sharifi Nasrin Zarei 2007World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,6:7
Transcranial magnetic stimulation in animal models of neurodegeneration显示文摘Brain stimulation techniques offer powerful means of modulating the physiology of specific neural structures. In recent years, non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation, have emerged as therapeutic tools for neurology and neuroscience. However, the possible repercussions of these techniques remain unclear, and there are few reports on the incisive recovery mechanisms through brain stimulation. Although several studies have recommended the use of non-invasive brain stimulation in clinical neuroscience, with a special emphasis on TMS, the suggested mechanisms of action have not been confirmed directly at the neural level. Insights into the neural mechanisms of non-invasive brain stimulation would unveil the strategies necessary to enhance the safety and efficacy of this progressive approach. Therefore, animal studies investigating the mechanisms of TMSinduced recovery at the neural level are crucial for the elaboration of non-invasive brain stimulation. Translational research done using animal models has several advantages and is able to investigate knowledge gaps by directly targeting neuronal levels. In this review, we have discussed the role of TMS in different animal models, the impact of animal studies on various disease states, and the findings regarding brain function of animal models after TMS in pharmacology research.Mohammad Uzair Turki Abualait Muhammad Arshad Woo-Kyoung Yoo Ali Mir Reem Fahd Bunyan Shahid Bashir 2022Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,2:4
Viral respiratory infections among Hajj pilgrims in 2013显示文摘Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-Co V) has emerged in the Arabian Gulf region, with its epicentre in Saudi Arabia, the host of the ‘Hajj' which is the world's the largest mass gathering. Transmission of MERS-Co V at such an event could lead to its rapid worldwide dissemination. Therefore, we studied the frequency of viruses causing influenza-like illnesses(ILI) among participants in a randomised controlled trial at the Hajj 2013. We recruited 1038 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia, Australia and Qatar during the first day of Hajj and followed them closely for four days. A nasal swab was collected from each pilgrim who developed ILI. Respiratory viruses were detected using multiplex RT-PCR. ILI occurred in 112/1038(11%) pilgrims. Their mean age was 35 years, 49(44%) were male and 35(31%) had received the influenza vaccine pre-Hajj. Forty two(38%) pilgrims had laboratory-confirmed viral infections; 28(25%) rhinovirus, 5(4%) influenza A, 2(2%) adenovirus, 2(2%) human coronavirus OC43/229 E, 2(2%) parainfluenza virus 3, 1(1%) parainfluenza virus 1, and 2(2%) dual infections. No MERS-Co V was detected in any sample. Rhinovirus was the commonest cause of ILI among Hajj pilgrims in 2013. Infection control and appropriate vaccination are necessary to prevent transmission of respiratory viruses at Hajj and other mass gatherings.Osamah Barasheed Harunor Rashid Mohammad Alfelali Mohamed Tashani Mohammad Azeem Hamid Bokhary Nadeen Kalantan Jamil Samkari Leon Heron Jen Kok Janette Taylor Haitham El Bashir Ziad A.Memish Elizabeth Haworth Edward C.Holmes Dominic E Dwyer Atif Asghar Robert Booy 2014Virologica Sinica2014,29,6:3

Giant saphenous vein graft pseudoaneurysm to right posterior descending artery presenting with superior vena cava syndrome显示文摘Saphenous vein grafts(SVG) pseudoaneurysms, especially giant ones, are rare and occur as a late complication of coronary artery bypass grafting. This condition affects both genders and typically occurs within the sixth decade of life. The clinical presentation ranges from an asymptomatic incidental finding on imaging studies to new onset angina, dyspnea, myocardial infarction or symptoms related to compression of neighboring structures. An 82-year-old woman presented with acute onset back pain, dyspnea and was noted to have significantly engorged neck veins. In the emergency department,a chest computed tomographic angiogram with intravenous contrast revealed a ruptured giant bilobed SVG pseudoaneurysm to the right posterior descending artery(RPDA). This imaging modality also demonstrated compression of the superior vena cava(SVC) by the SVG pseudoaneurysm. Coronary angiogram with bypass study was performed to establish the patency of this graft. Endovascular coiling and embolization of the SVG to RPDA was initially considered but disfavored after the coronary angiogram revealed preserved flow from the graft to this arterial branch. After reviewing the angiogram films,a surgical strategy was favored over a percutaneous intervention with a Nitinol self-expanding stent since the latter would have not addressed the superior vena cava compression caused by the giant pseudoaneurysm. Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram demonstrated SVCcompression by the giant pseudoaneurysm cranial lobe. Our patient underwent surgical ligation and excision of the giant pseudoaneurysm and the RPDA was regrafted successfully. In summary, saphenous vein grafts pseudoaneurysms can be life-threatening and its therapy should be guided based on the presence of mechanical complications, the patency of the affected vein graft and the involved myocardial territory viability.Andres Vargas-Estrada Dianna Edwards Mohammad Bashir James Rossen Firas Zahr 2015World Journal of Cardiology2015,7,6:3
Pneumomediastinum, pneumorachis, subcutaneous emphysema: An unusual complication of leukemia in a child显示文摘Pneumorrhachis(PR), or epidural emphysema, denotes the presence of air in the spinal epidural space. It can be associated with a variety of etiologies, including trauma; recent iatrogenic manipulations during surgical, anesthesiological and diagnostic interventions;malignancy and its associated therapy. It usually represents an asymptomatic epiphenomenon but also can be symptomatic by itself, as well as by its underlying pathology, and rarely can be fatal. The pathogenesis and etiology of PR are varied and can sometimes be a diagnostic challenge. As such, there are no standard guidelines for the management of symptomatic PR and its treatment is often individualized. Here, we present a case of a 14-year-old boy treated for leukemia who developed this complication and whether chemotherapy related or not, it proved to be fatal for him. To our knowledge, this is the first case in the literature of this complication with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.Hakim Irfan Showkat Aleem Jan Arif Hussain Sarmast Gull Mohammad Bhat Basharat Mujtaba Jan Yasir Bashir 2013World Journal of Clinical Cases2013,1,7:2
Molecular hallmarks of long non-coding RNAs in aging and its significant effect on aging-associated diseases显示文摘Aging is linked to the deterioration of many physical and cognitive abilities and is the leading risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. The growing aging population is a significant healthcare problem globally that researchers must investigate to better understand the underlying aging processes. Advances in microarrays and sequencing techniques have resulted in deeper analyses of diverse essential genomes(e.g., mouse, human, and rat) and their corresponding cell types, their organ-specific transcriptomes, and the tissue involved in aging. Traditional gene controllers such as DNA-and RNA-binding proteins significantly influence such programs, causing the need to sort out long non-coding RNAs, a new class of powerful gene regulatory elements. However, their functional significance in the aging process and senescence has yet to be investigated and identified. Several recent researchers have associated the initiation and development of senescence and aging in mammals with several well-reported and novel long non-coding RNAs. In this review article, we identified and analyzed the evolving functions of long non-coding RNAs in cellular processes, including cellular senescence, aging, and age-related pathogenesis, which are the major hallmarks of long non-coding RNAs in aging.Syed Aoun Mehmood Sherazi Asim Abbasi Abdullah Jamil Mohammad Uzair Ayesha Ikram Shanzay Qamar Adediji Ayomide Olamide Muhammad Arshad Peter J.Fried Milos Ljubisavljevic Ran Wang Shahid Bashir 2023Neural Regeneration Research2023,18,5:2

Effect of Cobalt Doping on the Microstructure and Tensile Properties of Lead Free Solder Joint Subjected to Electromigration显示文摘Rapid Cu diffusion is one of the main causes of electromigration(EM) failure in lead-free solder joints. In this study, an effort has been made to investigate the detrimental effects of EM on microstructure and mechanical performance of solder joint by introducing Co nanoparticles(NP) doped flux at the interface between SAC305 solder and copper substrate. EM tests were conducted on un-doped SAC305 and Co-doped SAC305 solder joints for different time intervals, with the maximum duration of 1128 h. A DC current was applied to the both types of solder joints to achieve a current density of 1 × 10~4A/cm^2. EM tests were performed in an oil bath maintained at a constant temperature of 80 °C. It is found that Codoped flux significantly reduced the formation of cracks and voids at the cathode interface. Co atoms entered into the lattice of Cu_6Sn_5 leading to the formation of(Cu, Co)_6Sn_5. This thermodynamically stabilized the interfacial intermetallic(IMC) layers both at the anode and cathode sides and suppressed the change in their thickness. The average anodic growth rate of(Cu, Co)_6Sn_5 interfacial IMC in the doped sample was about one order of magnitude lower compared with that of Cu_6Sn_5 in the un-doped samples.Co-NP also improved the tensile strength considerably before and after EM. The report suggests that the reliability of solder joint during EM can be improved by using Co-NP doped flux.M.Nasir Bashir A.S.M.A.Haseeb Abu Zayed Mohammad Saliqur Rahman M.A.Fazal 2016Journal of Materials Science & Technology2016,32,11:1
Breast cancer therapy by laser-induced Coulomb explosion of gold nanoparticles显示文摘Objective:Laser-induced Coulomb explosion of gold nanoparticles for breast cancer has been studied by nanophotolysis technique. This study aimed to investigate whether laser-induced bubble formation due to Coulomb explosion can provide an effective approach for selective damage of breast cancer with gold nanoparticles.Method:Numerical method involves laser-induced Coulomb explosion of gold nanoparticles.Different parameters related to nanophotolysis such as laser fluence, tumor depth, cluster radius, laser pulse duration, and bubble formation is studied numerically.Numerical simulation was performed using Mat lab. Results:The gold nanoparticles of 10,20,30,40,and 50 nm in radius could penetrate into tumor 1.14,1.155,1.189,1.20 and 1.22 cm in depth respectively. The maximum penetration depth in tumor could be obtained with nanoparticles of 50 nm radius.Short laser pulse of 40 ns with nanoparticles of 10 nm radius could penetrate into tumor 1.14 cm in depth.Bubbles with a radius of 9μm could effectively kill breast cancer cells without damaging healthy ones. The bubble radius increased from 4 to 9μm with an increase in pulse duration in the range of 10 to 30 ns.Conclusions:Gold nanoparticles with increasing radius and bubble formation for selective damage of breast cancer cells are successfully probed. The present calculated results are compared with other experimental findings, and good correlation is found between the present work and previous experimental values. It was demonstrated that bubble formation in tumor may further increase the efficacy of breast cancer treatment.Muhammad Gul Bahar Ashiq Mohammad Alam Saeed Bashir Ahmad Tahir Noorddin Ibrahim Muhammad Nadeem 2013Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2013,25,6:0
Sequential maximum androgen blockade(MAB) in minimally symptomatic prostate cancer progressing after initial MAB: two case reports显示文摘The management of castrate-resistant prostate cancer progressing after maximum androgen blockade(MAB) has evolved in the last decade with the development of several novel therapeutic options. However, the initial therapeutic strategy in these patients usually involves withdrawal of anti-androgen that can be associated with biochemical response in approximately 20% of patients. Notably, we have observed evidence of sustained biochemical response in two patients following secondand third-line MAB using rechallenge schedule of previously administered anti-androgen after latent interval. The possibility of response following sequential MAB using the same anti-androgen agent has not yet been reported.Mohan Hingorani Sanjay Dixit Fahim Bashir Mohammad Butt Simon Hawkyard Richard Khafagy Andrew Robertson 2014Cancer Biology & Medicine2014,11,4:0
A predictor-corrector scheme for solving nonlinear fractional differential equations with uniform and nonuniform meshes显示文摘In this paper,we develop two algorithms for solving linear and nonlinear fractional differential equations involving Caputo derivative. For designing new predictor–corrector(PC)schemes,we select the mesh points based on the two equal-height and equal-area distribution.Furthermore, the error bounds of PC schemes with uniform and equidistributing meshes are obtained. Finally, examples are constructed for illustrating the obtained PC schemes with uniform and equidistributing meshes.A comparative study is also presented.Mohammad Javidi Mahdi Saedshoar Heris Bashir Ahmad 2019International Journal of Modeling, Simulation, and Scientific Computing2019,10,5:0
Secrecy Outage Probability Minimization in Wireless-Powered Communications Using an Improved Biogeography-Based Optimization-Inspired Recurrent Neural Network显示文摘This paper focuses on wireless-powered communication systems, which are increasingly relevant in the Internet of Things(IoT)due to their ability to extend the operational lifetime of devices with limited energy. The main contribution of the paper is a novel approach to minimize the secrecy outage probability(SOP)in these systems.Minimizing SOP is crucial for maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of data, especially in situations where the transmission of sensitive data is critical. Our proposed method harnesses the power of an improved biogeography-based optimization(IBBO)to effectively train a recurrent neural network(RNN).The proposed IBBO introduces an innovative migration model. The core advantage of IBBO lies in its adeptness at maintaining equilibrium between exploration and exploitation. This is accomplished by integrating tactics such as advancing towards a random habitat, adopting the crossover operator from genetic algorithms(GA),and utilizing the global best(Gbest)operator from particle swarm optimization(PSO)into the IBBO framework. The IBBO demonstrates its efficacy by enabling the RNN to optimize the system parameters, resulting in significant outage probability reduction.Through comprehensive simulations,we showcase the superiority of the IBBO-RNN over existing approaches, highlighting its capability to achieve remarkable gains in SOP minimization. This paper compares nine methods for predicting outage probability in wireless-powered communications. The IBBO-RNN achieved the highest accuracy rate of 98.92%,showing a significant performance improvement. In contrast, the standard RNN recorded lower accuracy rates of 91.27%.The IBBO-RNN maintains lower SOP values across the entire signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)spectrum tested, suggesting that the method is highly effective at optimizing system parameters for improved secrecy even at lower SNRs.Mohammad Mehdi Sharifi Nevisi Elnaz Bashir Diego Martín Seyedkian Rezvanjou Farzaneh Shoushtari Ehsan Ghafourian 2024Computers, Materials & Continua2024,78,3:0
