| 2 | Baicalin prevents LPS-induced activation of TLR4/NF-κB p65 pathway and inflammation in mice via inhibiting the expression of CD14显示文摘Previous studies have shown that baicalin,an active ingredient of the Chinese traditional medicine Huangqin,attenuates LPS-induced inflammation by inhibiting the activation of TLR4/NF-κBp65 pathway,but how it affects this pathway is unknown.It has been shown that CD14 binds directly to LPS and plays an important role in sensitizing the cells to minute quantities of LPS via chaperoning LPS molecules to the TLR4/MD-2 signaling complex.In the present study we investigated the role of CD14 in the anti-inflammatory effects of baicalin in vitro and in vivo.Exposure to LPS(1μg/mL)induced inflammatory responses in RAW264.7 cells,evidenced by marked increases in the expression of MHC II molecules and the secretion of NO and IL-6,and by activation of MyD88/NF-κB p65 signaling pathway,as well as the expression of CD14 and TLR4.These changes were dose-dependently attenuated by pretreatment baicalin(12.5–50μM),but not by baicalin post-treatment.In RAW264.7 cells without LPS stimulation,baicalin dose-dependently inhibit the protein and mRNA expression of CD14,but not TLR4.In RAW264.7 cells with CD14 knockdown,baicalin pretreatment did not prevent inflammatory responses and activation of MyD88/NF-κB p65 pathway induced by high concentrations(1000μg/mL)of LPS.Furthermore,baicalin pretreatment also inhibited the expression of CD14 and activation of MyD88/NF-κB p65 pathway in LPS-induced hepatocyte-derived HepG2 cells and intestinal epithelial-derived HT-29 cells.In mice with intraperitoneal injection of LPS and in DSS-induced UC mice,oral administration of baicalin exerted protective effects by inhibition of CD14 expression and inflammation.Taken together,we demonstrate that baicalin pretreatment prevents LPS-induced inflammation in RAW264.7 cells in CD14-dependent manner.This study supports the therapeutic use of baicalin in preventing the progression of LPS-induced inflammatory diseases. | Ya-jun Fu Bo Xu Shao-wei Huang Xia Luo Xiang-liang Deng Shuang Luo Chang Liu Qing Wang Jin-yan Chen Lian Zhou | 2021 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2021,42,1: | 31 |
| 3 | Duck egg drop syndrome virus:an emerging Tembusu-related flavivirus in China显示文摘Duck egg drop syndrome virus(DEDSV) is a newly emerging pathogenic flavivirus isolated from ducks in China.DEDSV infection mainly results in severe egg drop syndrome in domestic poultry,which leads to huge economic losses.Thus,the discovery of ways and means to combat DEDSV is urgent.Since 2010,a remarkable amount of progress concerning DEDSV research has been achieved.Here,we review current knowledge on the epidemiology,symptomatology,and pathology of DEDSV.A detailed dissection of the viral genome and polyprotein sequences,comparative analysis of viral antigenicity and the corresponding potential immunity against the virus are also summarized.Current findings indicate that DEDSV should be a distinct species from Tembusu virus.Moreover,the adaption of DEDSV in wildlife and its high homology to pathogenic flaviviruses(e.g.,West Nile virus,Japanese encephalitis virus,and dengue virus),illustrate its reemergence and potential to become a zoonotic pathogen that should not be overlooked.Detailed insight into the antigenicity and corresponding immunity against the virus is of clear significance for the development of vaccines and antiviral drugs specific for DEDSV. | LIU PeiPei LU Hao LI Shuang WU Ying George Fu GAO SU JingLiang | 2013 | Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,8: | 28 |

| 5 | Additive and Over-dominant Effects Resulting from Epistatic Loci Are the Primary Genetic Basis of Heterosis in Rice显示文摘A set of 148 F9 recombinant inbred lines(RILs) was developed from the cross of an indica cultivar 93-11 and japonica cultivar DT713,showing strong F1 heterosis.Subsequently,two backcross F1(BCF1) populations were constructed by backcrossing these 148 RILs to two parents,93-11 and DT713.These three related populations(281BCF1 lines,148 RILs) were phenotyped for six yield-related traits in two locations.Significant inbreeding depression was detected in the population of RILS and a high level of heterosis was observed in the two BCF1 populations.A total of 42 main-effect quantitative trait loci(M-QTLs) and 109 epistatic effect QTL pairs(E-QTLs) were detected in the three related populations using the mixed model approach.By comparing the genetic effects of these QTLs detected in the RILs,BCF1 performance and mid-parental heterosis(HMP),we found that,in both BCF1 populations,the QTLs detected could be classified into two predominant types:additive and over-dominant loci,which indicated that the additive and over-dominant effect were more important than complete or partially dominance for M-QTLs and E-QTLs.Further,we found that the E-QTLs detected collectively explained a larger portion of the total phenotypic variation than the M-QTLs in both RILs and BCF1 populations.All of these results suggest that additive and over-dominance resulting from epistatic loci might be the primary genetic basis of heterosis in rice. | Xiaojin Luo Yongcai Fu Peijiang Zhang Shuang Wu Feng Tian Jiayong Liu Zuofeng Zhu Jinshui Yang Chuanqing Sun | 2009 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2009,51,4: | 20 |
| 6 | Precise nanomedicine for intelligent therapy of cancer显示文摘Precise nanomedicine has been extensively explored for efficient cancer imaging and targeted cancer therapy, as evidenced by a few breakthroughs in their preclinical and clinical explorations. Here, we demonstrate the recent advances of intelligent cancer nanomedicine, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their structure-function relationship for smart and efficient cancer nanomedicine including various imaging and therapeutic applications, as well as nanotoxicity. In particular, a few emerging strategies that have advanced cancer nanomedicine are also highlighted as the emerging focus such as tumor imprisonment, supramolecular chemotherapy, and DNA nanorobot. The challenge and outlook of some scientific and engineering issues are also discussed in future development. | 7 | Tooth regeneration: a revolution in stomatology and evolution in regenerative medicine显示文摘A tooth is a complex biological organ and consists of multiple tissues including the enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. Tooth loss is the most common organ failure. Can a tooth be regenerated? Can adult stem cells be orchestrated to regenerate tooth structures such as the enamel, dentin, cementum and dental pulp, or even an entire tooth? If not, what are the therapeutically viable sources of stem cells for tooth regeneration? Do stem cells necessarily need to be taken out of the body, and manipulated ex vivo before they are transplanted for tooth regeneration? How can regenerated teeth be economically competitive with dental implants? Would it be possible to make regenerated teeth affordable by a large segment of the population worldwide? This review article explores existing and visionary approaches that address some of the above-mentioned questions. | 9 | Evaluation of health benefit using Ben MAP-CE with an integrated scheme of model and monitor data during Guangzhou Asian Games显示文摘Guangzhou is the capital and largest city(land area:7287 km2)of Guangdong province in South China.The air quality in Guangzhou typically worsens in November due to unfavorable meteorological conditions for pollutant dispersion.During the Guangzhou Asian Games in November 2010,the Guangzhou government carried out a number of emission control measures that significantly improved the air quality.In this paper,we estimated the acute health outcome changes related to the air quality improvement during the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games using a next-generation,fully-integrated assessment system for air quality and health benefits.This advanced system generates air quality data by fusing model and monitoring data instead of using monitoring data alone,which provides more reliable results.The air quality estimates retain the spatial distribution of model results while calibrating the value with observations.The results show that the mean PM_2.5concentration in November 2010 decreased by 3.5μg/m^3 compared to that in 2009 due to the emission control measures.From the analysis,we estimate that the air quality improvement avoided 106 premature deaths,1869 cases of hospital admission,and 20,026 cases of outpatient visits.The overall cost benefit of the improved air quality is estimated to be 165 million CNY,with the avoided premature death contributing 90%of this figure.The research demonstrates that Ben MAP-CE is capable of assessing the health and cost benefits of air pollution control for sound policy making. | Dian Ding Yun Zhu Carey Jang Che-Jen Lin Shuxiao Wang Joshua Fu Jian Gao Shuang Deng Junping Xie Xuezhen Qiu | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,4: | 13 |

| 11 | Angiogenesis-related cytokines in serum of proliferative diabetic retinopathy patients before and after vitrectomy显示文摘AIM: To evaluate serum concentrations of angiogenesis- related cytokines in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) before and after vitrectomy. METHODS: Serum samples were collected from 30 PDR patients with varying severity before and after vitrectomy. Serum concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), interleukin-8 (IL-8) and interferon-inducible protein-10 (IP-10) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA). RESULTS: Serum concentrations of VEGF, PEDF, IL-8 and IP-10 were significantly higher in PDR patients than that in controls, respectively (P <0.05). VEGF concentration decreased significantly in postoperative samples than that in preoperative samples (P <0.05). The concentrations of PEDF, IL-8 and IP-10 did not exhibit significant changes after vitrectomy. CONCLUSION: Elevated cytokines levels in serum may be diagnostically useful in PDR. | 14 | A case-control study about the association between vascular endothelial growth inhibitor gene polymorphisms and breast cancer risk in female patients in Northeast China显示文摘Objective: The inhibition of the neovascularization in tumors is a potential therapeutic target of cancer. Vascular endothelial growth inhibitor(VEGI) is a member of the TNF superfamily which has the ability to suppress the formation of new vessels in tumors. In order to study the association between VEGI gene polymorphisms and breast cancer risk, a case-control study was conducted in Chinese Han women in Northeast China.Methods: Our study involved 708 female breast cancer patients and 685 healthy volunteers. Four SNPs of VEGI gene were analyzed through the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) method. The association between VEGI gene polymorphisms and breast cancer risk was analyzed in our study. The relation between VEGI gene variants and clinical features of breast cancer including lymph node(LN) metastasis, estrogen receptor(ER), progestrogen receptor(PR), tumor protein 53(p53), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(Her-2) and triple negative(ER-/PR-/Her-2-) status was analyzed as well.Results: We found that the CT genotype and T allele of rs6478106 were more frequent in patients than in controls. There was also a statistical difference in the distribution of C_(rs6478106)G_(rs4263839) haplotype between patients and controls. | 18 | Chinese patent medicine for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease based on principles of tonifying Qi, promoting blood circulation by removing blood stasis, and resolving phlegm: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese patent medicine(CPM) with the principle of tonifying Qi, promoting blood circulation by removing blood stasis, and resolving phlegm(TQ-PBC-RP)in the management of stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).METHODS: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials(RCTs) identified from electronic databases and print was conducted. RCTs testing CPMs with TQ-PBC-RP against any type of controlled intervention in patients with stable COPD and assessing clinically relevant outcomes were included. Methodological quality was evaluated with the risk of bias tool according to systematic review handbook 5.0.2. Quality of evidence was estimatedby the rating approach developed by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development,and Evaluation Working Group.RESULTS: Thirteen eligible RCTs with 12 oral CPMs were tested. Significant differences between groups in favor of CPMs were not reported in all trials. Most trials included were deemed to be of low methodological quality with poor evidence quality.Because of large data heterogeneity, statistical pooling was not performed for all outcomes.CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of CPM in the treatment of stable COPD is not supported by evidence. Currently, evidence from RCTs is scarce and methodologically weak. | 19 | Drinking water treatment using a submerged internal-circulation membrane coagulation reactor coupled with permanganate oxidation显示文摘A submerged internal circulating membrane coagulation reactor(MCR) was used to treat surface water to produce drinking water. Polyaluminum chloride(PACl) was used as coagulant,and a hydrophilic polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) submerged hollow fiber microfiltration membrane was employed. The influences of trans-membrane pressure(TMP), zeta potential(ZP) of the suspended particles in raw water, and KMnO_4 dosing on water flux and the removal of turbidity and organic matter were systematically investigated. Continuous bench-scale experiments showed that the permeate quality of the MCR satisfied the requirement for a centralized water supply, according to the Standards for Drinking Water Quality of China(GB 5749-2006), as evaluated by turbidity(<1 NTU) and total organic carbon(TOC)(<5 mg/L)measurements. Besides water flux, the removal of turbidity, TOC and dissolved organic carbon(DOC) in the raw water also increased with increasing TMP in the range of 0.01–0.05 MPa. High ZP induced by PACl, such as 5–9 mV, led to an increase in the number of fine and total particles in the MCR, and consequently caused serious membrane fouling and high permeate turbidity.However, the removal of TOC and DOC increased with increasing ZP. A slightly positive ZP, such as 1–2 mV, corresponding to charge neutralization coagulation, was favorable for membrane fouling control. Moreover, dosing with KMnO_4 could further improve the removal of turbidity and DOC, thereby mitigating membrane fouling.
