1Research on the dry intrusion accompanying the low vortex precipitation显示文摘By employing the 6.7μm satellite vapor cloud images and NCEP/NCAR 1°×1° reanalysis datasets, the characteristics and mechanism of the dry intrusion, as well as its impacts on the low vortex precipita- tion at the Meiyu front are explored in this paper. It is found that the formation,development and main- tenance of the low vortex precipitation at the Meiyu front are closely related to the evolution of the dry intrusion. The dry intrusion is characterized by high potential vorticity (PV), low humidity and cold air. The dry intrusion exhibits as an obvious dark zone on vapor cloud images, an area in which atmos- pheric relative humidity is lower than 60%. However, the features of the dry intrusion on the vapor im- ages are clearer than that of the humidity field, for the former is the digital vapor cloud images with high temporal and spatial resolution, and it can be used to explore the finer characteristics of the develop- ment, evolution and supplement of the intrusion during the development of the low vortex. The dry intrusion impacts accompanying the low vortex precipitation at the Meiyu front come from all levels of the troposphere, with the strongest intrusion located at the upper troposphere. The dry and cold air intrudes the vicinity of the low vortex from the upper isentropic surface to the lower one, slanting eastward from lower to higher level. The low vortex precipitation region is usually situated in front of the dry intrusion where the relative humidity gradient is higher. The research also reveals that the mechanism of the dry intrusion is that the high potential vorticity descends from the upper troposphere to the lower level, therefore, the dry intrusion can be used as an important index of the high PV forcing. To the west of the low vortex precipitation, the upper level northerlies descend across the isentropic surface, then the dry cold advection can trigger the instable development in the mid-low troposphere. The dry intrusion enhances the low vortex precipitation. Meanwhile, because of the good agreement between the high PV at the upper level and the dry intrusion illustrated by the vapor cloud images, the dry intrusion in the vapor cloud images is the direct and clear description of the high PV forcing which provides a new insight in understanding the evolution and development of the practical weather sys- tems. 3Distribution of bleeding gastrointestinal angioectasias in a Western population显示文摘AIM:To define which segments of the gastrointestinal tract are most likely to yield angioectasias for ablative therapy. METHODS:A retrospective chart review was performed for patients treated in the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Gastroenterology clinics between the dates of July 1, 2007 and October 1, 2010. The selection of cases for review was initiated by use of our electronic medical record to identify all patients with a diagnosis of angioectasia, angiodysplasia, or arteriovenous malformation. Of these cases, chart reviews identified patients who had a complete evaluation of their gastrointestinal tract as defined by at least one upper endoscopy, colonoscopy and small bowel capsule endoscopy within the past three years. Patients without evidence of overt gastrointestinal bleeding or iron deficiency anemia associated with intestinal angioectasias were classified as asymptomatic and excluded from this analysis. Thirty-five patients with confirmed, bleeding intestinal angioectasias who had undergone complete endoscopic evaluation of the gastrointestinal tract were included in the final analysis. RESULTS:A total of 127 cases were reviewed. Sixtysix were excluded during subsequent screening due to lack of complete small bowel evaluation and/or lack of documentation of overt bleeding or iron deficiency anemia. The 61 remaining cases were carefully examined with independent review of endoscopic images as well as complete capsule endoscopy videos. This anal- ysis excluded 26 additional cases due to insufficient records/images for review, incomplete capsule examination, poor capsule visualization or lack of confirmation of typical angioectasias by the principal investigator on independent review. Thirty-five cases met criteria for final analysis. All study patients were age 50 years or older and 13 patients (37.1%) had chronic kidney disease stage 3 or higher. Twenty of 35 patients were taking aspirin (81 mg or 325 mg), clopidogrel, and/or warfarin, with 8/20 on combination therapy. The number and location of angioectasis was documented for each case. Lesions were then classified into the following segments of the gastrointestinal tract:esophagus, stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, right colon and left colon. The location of lesions within the small bowel observed by capsule endoscopy was generally defined by percentage of total small bowel transit time with times of 0%-9%, 10%-39%, and 40%-100% corresponding to the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, respectively. Independent review of complete capsule studies allowed for deviation from this guideline if capsule passage was delayed in one or more segments. In addition, the location and number of angioectasias observed in the small bowel was further modified or confirmed by subsequent device-assisted enteroscopy (DAE) performed in the 83% of cases. In our study population, angioectasias were most commonly found in the jejunum (80%) followed by the duodenum (51%), stomach (22.8%), and right colon (11.4%). Only two patients were found to have angioectasias in the ileum (5.7%). 5Identification of phloem-associated translatome alterations during leaf development in Prunus domestica L.显示文摘Phloem plays a fundamental role in plants by transporting hormones,nutrients,proteins,RNAs,and carbohydrates essential for plant growth and development.However,the identity of the underlying phloem genes and pathways remain enigmatic especially in agriculturally important perennial crops,in part,due to the technical difficulty of phloem sampling.Here,we used two phloem-specific promoters and a translating ribosome affinity purification(TRAP)strategy to characterize the phloem translatome during leaf development at 2,4,and 6 weeks post vernalization in plum(Prunus domestica L.).Results provide insight into the changing phloem processes that occur during leaf development.These processes included the early activation of DNA replication genes that are likely involved in phloem cell division during leaf expansion,as well as the upregulation of phloem genes associated with sink to source conversion,induction of defense processes,and signaling for reproduction.Combined these results reveal the dynamics of phloem gene expression during leaf development and establish the TRAP system as a powerful tool for studying phloem-specific functions and responses in trees.Tamara D.Collum Elizabeth Lutton C.Douglas Raines Christopher Dardick James N.Culver 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:2

14Alteration of TAC1 expression in Prunus species leads to pleiotropic shoot phenotypes显示文摘Prunus persica(peach)trees carrying the“Pillar”or“Broomy”trait(br)have vertically oriented branches caused by loss-of-function mutations in a gene called TILLER ANGLE CONTROL 1(TAC1).TAC1 encodes a protein in the IGT gene family that includes LAZY1 and DEEPER ROOTING 1(DRO1),which regulate lateral branch and root orientations,respectively.Here we found that some of the native TAC1 alleles in the hexaploid plum species Prunus domestica,which has a naturally more upright stature,contained a variable length trinucleotide repeat within the same exon 3 region previously found to be disrupted in pillar peach trees.RNAi silencing of TAC1 in plum resulted in trees with severely vertical branch orientations similar to those in pillar peaches but with an even narrower profile.In contrast,PpeTAC1 overexpression in plum led to trees with wider branch angles and more horizontal branch orientations.Pillar peach trees and transgenic plum lines exhibited pleiotropic phenotypes,including differences in trunk and branch diameter,stem growth,and twisting branch phenotypes.Expression profiling of pillar peach trees revealed differential expression of numerous genes associated with biotic and abiotic stress,hormone responses,plastids,reactive oxygen,secondary,and cell wall metabolism.Collectively,the data provide important clues for understanding TAC1 function and show that alteration of TAC1 expression may have broad applicability to agricultural and ornamental tree industries.Courtney A.Hollender Jessica M.Waite Amy Tabb Doug Raines Srinivasan Chinnithambi Chris Dardick 2018Horticulture Research2018,5,1:2
