1Loading characteristics of mechanical rib bolts determined through testing and numerical modeling显示文摘Underground coal mines use mechanical bolts in addition to other types of bolts to control the rib deformation and to stabilize the yielded coal ribs.Limited research has been conducted to understand the performance of the mechanical bolts in coal ribs.Researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)conducted this work to understand the loading characteristics of mechanical bolts(stiffness and capacity)installed in coal ribs at five underground coal mines.Standard pull-out tests were performed in this study to define the loading characteristics of mechanical rib bolts.Different installation torques were applied to the tested bolts based on the strength of the coal seam.A typical tri-linear load-deformation response for mechanical bolts was obtained from these tests.It was found that the anchorage capacity depended mainly on the coal strength.Guidelines for modeling mechanical bolts have been developed using the tri-linear load-deformation response.The outcome of this research provides essential data for rib support design.Khaled Mohamed Gamal Rashed Zorica Radakovic-Guzina 2020International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2020,30,1:4

3Geochemistry of lamprophyres associated with uranium mineralization, Southeastern Desert, Egypt显示文摘Two brecciated shear zones (NNW-SSE) are found crosscutting cataclastic rocks. The cataclastic rocks (3.0 km2) occupy the core of the granitic pluton and enclose a roof pendant of mafic-ultramafic rocks. The NNW-SSE-extending lamprophyre dykes vary in thickness from 0.5 m to 1 m and up to 800 m long, cutting the cataclastic rocks and are composed mainly of plagioclases, amphiboles, relics of pyroxenes and K-feldspar phenocrysts embedded in fine-grained groundmass. They are characterized as being peraluminous, calc-alkaline in composition (chemical trap) and enriched in calcite, sulfide and P2O5. The lamprophyres were affected by hydrothermal alteration (chlorite-carbonate alteration) while the cataclastic rocks were affected by diagenetic alteration (K-feldspar-albite alteration). Uranium mineralization is the product of hydrothermal events and has been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), involving primary uranium minerals (U3O8) and secondary uranium minerals (uranophane and beta-uranophane, kasolite, torbernite, autonite and meta-autonite) in addition to U- bearing minerals (astrocyanite, betafite and fergusonite). The presence of different mineral parageneses associated with clay minerals indicates that the lamprophyres were subjected to acidic and alkaline mineralizing solutions. Moreover, the U-Zr/U, U-Ce/U values show negative correlations, confirming U-enrichment in both cataclastic rocks and shear zones while the Th-eU/eTh, Th-Zr/Th and Th-Ce/Th values show negative correlations, indicating that the U-bearing solutions are rich in Th in the cataclastic rocks only.Mohamed E. 10Vascular endothelial growth factor before and after locoregional treatment and its relation to treatment response in hepatocelluar carcinoma patients显示文摘Objective:To evaluate vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)levels in hepatocellular carcinoma patients before and after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)and percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI)and its relation to treatment response.Methods:A total of 40 patients with unrespectable hepatocelluar carcinoma were assessed clinically.Twenty patients were suitable to be treated by TACE,while other 20patients were treated with PEI.Serum VEGF levels were measured before and 1 month after each procedure by ELISA.Response was assessed after 1 month according to Union Internationale Contre le Cancer evaluation criteria based on change in tumor size as measured by ultrasound.Results:There was no significant difference between TACE and PEI groups with regard to age,sex,tumor size,response to local therapy,or VEGF and alpha-fetoprotein before and after therapy.VEGF levels after TACE were significantly higher than before TACE[(298.1±123.6)pg/m L vs.(205.8±307.3)pg/m L;P=0.001].Also,VEGF levels were significantly higher after PEI than before PEI[(333.8±365.6)pg/m L vs.(245.3±301.8)pg/m L;P=0.000].Non-responders of both groups had significantly high VEGF levels than responder's,both before[(985.0±113.2)pg/m L vs.(117.1±75.3)pg/m L;P<0.001]and after therapy[(1 330.6±495.7)pg/m L vs.(171.0±94.7)pg/m L;P=0.000)].Conclusions:Both TACE and PEI were associated with an increase in serum VEGF in hepatocelluar carcinoma patients.Higher levels of VEGF before and after therapy were found in non-responders,suggesting that VEGF is a useful marker in predicting treatment response.Heba Sedrak Noaman El-Garem Mervat Naguib Heba El-Zawahry Mohamed Esmat Lila Rashed 2015Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2015,5,12:1

15Safety and efficacy of posterior sub-Tenon's carboplatin injection versus intravitreal melphalan therapy in the management of retinoblastoma with secondary vitreous seeds显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of posterior sub-Tenon's carboplatin injection compared to intravitreal melphalan injection in the management of retinoblastoma(RB) with secondary vitreous seeds. The outcome measures were vitreous seeds regression, need for other treatment modalities to achieve ocular salvage and treatment side effects.METHODS: A prospective interventional comparative nonrandomized study included RB eyes developed secondary vitreous seeds during the period of follow up. They subdivided into two groups: study group I where posterior sub-Tenon's carboplatin(20 mg/2 m L) was injected and study group II where intravitreal melphalan(20 μg/0.1 m L) was injected. The injections repeated every 2-4 wk.RESULTS: Thirty-three eyes were included in the study. Seventeen eyes(16 patients) in study group I and 16 eyes(16 patients) in study group II. Ten eyes(30.3%) were completely salvaged following local chemotherapies. Ocular salvage was 23.5% following posterior sub-Tenon's carboplatin injection versus 37.5% following intravitreal melphalan raised to 47.1% and 75% with addition of external beam radiotherapy(EBR) with no statistically significant difference between the study groups(P=0.16). A statistically significant correlation was found between ocular salvage rate and type of vitreous seeds either dust, spheres and clouds(r=0.42, P=0.015) and eyes harbor new solid tumor growth(r=0.35, P=0.045). The mean and median follow up periods following local chemotherapy injections were 2.0 y in the study group I and 2.37 y in the study group II. Few complications were reported: periorbital edema in all eyes and ocular motility disturbances in 13 eyes(76.5%) following posterior sub-Tenon's carboplatin injection. Vitreous hemorrhage developed in 2 eyes(12.5%) and localized retinopathy in 5 eyes(31.25%) following intravitreal melphalan.CONCLUSION: Local chemotherapy for treatment of RB with secondary vitreous seeds is safe and can salvage 30.3% of eyes without EBR. 16Burnout during pandemic COVID-19 in Saudi and non-Saudi nurses in King Abdulaziz hospital,Makkah显示文摘Background:COVID-19 put the global health system in a disastrous situation.Nursing plays a vital role in healthcare services.The ratio of burnout increased during this period.In the context of Saudi Arabia,nurses’whether these are Saudi or non-Saudi the burnout due to emotional exhaustion,depersonalization,and personal accomplishment,the situation of burnout could be there.It is,therefore,important to understand the phenomenon of nurse burnout and the factors that contribute to it.This study aims to understand burnout among nurses and the factors that affect nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods:The design of this study was quantitative cross-sectional and correlational.This study population included 255 nurses working in the King Abdulaziz hospital,Makkah,in 2021.Self-administered questionnaire(google forms)was distributed through email and WhatsApp.Statistical analysis system version 9.4 for data analysis and reporting.Result:Most of the nurse participants were in the age range 31-40,were females and were Saudi nationals.A Chi-square analysis showed a significant burnout level on the sub-scale of emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment,while a partial burnout level was observed on the sub-scale of depersonalization.The level of burnout was higher and more significant among Saudi nurses compared to non-Saudi nationals.The impact of demographic variables on burnout showed that nationality,level of education,and duty type were the most influential and significant variables in burnout among Saudi and non-Saudi nurses.Conclusion:The findings indicated that nurses’burnout is higher during COVID-19 and is closely related to their working hours.In addition,when nurses are more nervous and depressed,a higher level of burnout will be witnessed.Since depression and frustration are influenced by working hours,attention should be given to this factor,focusing on interventions to alleviate the causes that lead to nurses’burnout.Majda Rashed Khairi Mashael Abdulnasser Ahmad Abdulrahman Mohammed Salah Alshmemri May Hassan Bagadood Sanaa Awwad Alsulami 2023Nursing Communications2023,7,1:0

18Performance evaluation of a WDM/OCDM based hybrid optical switch utilizing efficient resource allocation显示文摘A hybrid optical switch(HOS) with physical layer of wavelength division multiplexing and optical code division multiplexing(WDM/OCDM) scheme is proposed. An additional feature to the HOS than optical cross connect(OXC) is that the controller can process requests for both circuit establishment and burst scheduling. In our study, the measurement criteria of HOS are the blocking probability, probability of error, and probability of outage. To simplify the analysis, no distinction is made between a circuit in progress and a burst in progress. Moreover, a minimum fit(MinF) resource allocation strategy is applied in order to increase the bandwidth efficiency and control the multiplexing interference of the OCDM. A 2D Markov model for the HOS is presented using the MinF strategy. Numerical results reveal that the code parameters and the resource allocation strategy greatly affect the performance. Certain periority can be achieved by assigning shorter codes to high periority users and longer codes to low periority users. 19A NEW CONCEPT AND EXHIBITION PROGRAM FOR THE EGYPTIAN MUSEUM IN CAIRO显示文摘This article presents a new concept for the future permanent display of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and discusses different practical ideas and concepts. Throughout the discussion, recent challenges and opportunities are considered, particularly the conflicts and duplication among the three major museums in Greater Cairo, the Egyptian Museum(EMC), the Grand Egyptian Museum(GEM), and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization(NMEC). Different ideas are introduced, while selected options are then discussed. The author argues his suggestion to develop a concept that combines archaeological fieldwork, masterpieces, and visible storage in a presentation that varies from aesthetic, contextual and systematic display. 20Preliminary rib support requirements for solid coal ribs using a coal pillar rib rating(CPRR)显示文摘Researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)are developing a coal pillar rib rating(CPRR)technique to measure the integrity of coal ribs.The CPRR characterizes the rib composition and evaluates its impact on the inherent stability of the coal ribs.The CPRR utilizes four parameters:rib homogeneity,bedding condition,face cleat orientation with respect to entry direction,and rib height.All these parameters are measurable in the field.A rib data collecting procedure and a simple sheet to calculate the CPRR were developed.The developed CPRR can be used as a rib quality mapping tool in underground coal mines and to determine the potential of local rib instabilities and support requirements associated with overburden depth.CPRR calculations were conducted for 22 surveyed solid coal ribs,mainly composed of coal units.Based on this study,the rib performance was classified into four categories.A preliminary minimum primary rib support density(PRSD)line was obtained from these surveyed cases.Two sample cases are presented that illustrate the data collection form and CPRR calculations.Khaled Mohamed Mark Van Dyke Gamal Rashed Morgan MSears Robert Kimutis 2021International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2021,31,1:0
