| 2 | 不同成熟阶段辣椒挥发性香味物质的固相微萃取分析显示文摘利用固相微萃取法(SPME)分析优质商品辣椒三个不同成熟阶段(绿色、转色和红色)挥发性香味物质的变化,采用统计学的最优化方法,得到萃取辣椒6种主要香味成分——已醛、2-异丁基-3-甲氧基吡嗪、2,3-丁二酮、3-蒈烯、转-2-已烯醛和芳樟醇的最佳实验条件,即固相微萃取温度60℃,时间30min。并用GC-MS观察辣椒鲜果中这些重要香味物质的变化。结果表明,随着辣椒的成熟,已醛和2-异丁基-3-甲氧基吡嗪明显减少,而与甜味和果香味有关的物质如2,3-丁二酮、3-蒈烯、转-2-已烯醛和芳樟醇则增加。利用SPME法能很容易检测到辣椒香味化合物的含量,而且,该方法和顶空分析法一样,也可用来分析商品辣椒的品质或挥发性物质。 | M.M. Changes in the prevalence of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction may contribute to changes in the natural history of heart failure. We performed a study to define secular trends in the prevalence of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction among patients at a single institution over a 15-year period. Methods: We studied all consecutive patients hospitalized with decompensated heart failure at Mayo Clinic Hospitals in Olmsted County, Minnesota, from 1987 through 2001. We classified patients as having either preserved or reduced ejection fraction. The patients were also classified as community patients(Olmsted County residents) or referral patients. Secular trends in the type of heart failure, associated cardiovascular disease, and survival were defined. Results: A total of 6076 patients with heart failure were discharged over the 15-year period; data on ejection fraction were available for 4596 of these patients(76 percent). Of these, 53 percent had a reduced ejection fraction and 47 percent had a preserved ejection fraction. The proportion of patients with the diagnosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction increased over time and was significantly higher among community patients than among referral patients(55 percent vs. 45 percent). The prevalence rates of hypertension, atrial fibrillation, and diabetes among patients with heart failure increased significantly over time. Survival was slightly better among patients with preserved ejection fraction(adjusted hazard ratio for death, 0.96; P=0.01). Survival improved over time for those with reduced ejection fraction but not for those with preserved ejection fraction. Conclusions: The prevalence of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction increased over a 15-year period, while the rate of death from this disorder remained unchanged. | 5 | Role of ZnO-CeO_2 Nanostructures as a Photo-catalyst and Chemi-sensor显示文摘ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures were synthesized by simple and effcient low temperature method. The structure and morphology of the ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), which revealed elongated shaped CeO2 nanoparticles with diameters of 40-90 nm distributed on the surface of elongated ZnO nanostructures with diameters of 50-200 nm (edge-centre). Further the structure of the synthesized ZnO-CeO2 nanostructure was supported by Raman spectra and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). UV-vis absorption spectrum was used to confirm the optical properties of the CeO2 doped ZnO nanostructures. Photo-catalytic activity of CeO2 doped ZnO nanostructure was evaluated by degradation of acridine orange and methylene blue which degraded 84.55% and 48.65% in 170 min, respectively. ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures also showed good sensitivity (0.8331 μA·cm-2·(mol/l)-1) in short response time (10 s) by applying to chemical sensing using ethanol as a target compound by I-V technique. These degradation and chemical sensing properties of ZnO-CeO2 nanostructures are of great importance for the application of ZnO-CeO2 system as a photo-catalyst and chemical sensor. | M. | 10 | Impact of poly chlorinated biphenyl (Aroclor 1254) and vitamin C on antioxidant system of rat ventral prostate显示文摘Aim:To evaluate the effect of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and vitamin C on ventral prostatic antioxidant system in adult male rats.Methods:A group of 20 adult male rats were administered ip Aroclor 1254 in corn oil at a dose of 2 mg.kg^-1·day^-1 for 30 days.Ten control rats were administered only the vehicle.After 30 days the treated rats were divided at random into 2 sub-groups of 10 animals each.One sub-group received vitamin C at a dose of 500 mg.kg^-1·day^-1 for 10 days.The other group was maintained as Aroclor 1254 control.Twenty-four hours after the last treatment the rats were killed by decapitation.Ventral prostatic homogenate was prepared and used for the estimation of enzymatic antioxidants,including superoxide dismutase (SOD),catalase (CAT) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2),lipid peroxidation (LPO) and prostatic acid phosphatase.The serum levels of total T3,total T4,TSH,testosterone and estradiol were also assayed.Results:The body weight and ventral prostatic weight were reduced in PCB treated rats.The activities of SOD,CAT,GST and acid phosphatase were decreased while the levels of H2O2 and lipid peroxidation were increased in the ventral prostate of PCB treated rats.Administration of vitamin C restored these parameters.Serum levels of thyroid hormones,estradiol and testosteron ewere decreased in PCB treated animals.Administration of vitamin C restored the thyroid hormone levels.Conclusion:PCB induces oxidative stress and decreases the antioxidant enzymes in the ventral prostate of adult male rats;the effects could be reversed by the administration of vitamin C.(Asian J Androl 2004 Mar;6:19-22) | M. | 12 | Garcinol sensitizes human head and neck carcinoma to cisplatin in a xenograft mouse model despite downregulation of proliferative biomarkers显示文摘OBJECTIVE Platinum compounds such as cisplatin and carboplatin are frequently used as the first-line chemotherapy for the treatment of the head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC).In the present study,we investigated whether garcinol,apolyisoprenylated benzophenone can chemosensitize HNSCC to cisplatin.METHODS The effect of garcinol and cisplatin on HNSCC was assessed by MTT,Western blotting,real time PCR,FACS,immunohistochemistry,DNA binding assay and xenograft mouse model.RESULTS We found that garcinol inhibited the viability of a panel of diverse HNSCC cell lines,enhanced the apoptotic effect of cisplatin,suppressed constitutive as well as cisplatin-induced NF-κB activation,and downregulated the expression of various oncogenic gene products(cyclin D1,Bcl-2,survivin and VEGF).In vivo study showed that administration of garcinol alone(0.5 mg·kg-1,ip five times/week)significantly suppressed the growth of the tumor,and this effect was further increased by cisplatin.Both the markers of proliferation index(Ki-67)and microvessel density(CD31)were downregulated in tumor tissues by the combination of cisplatin and garcinol.The pharmacokinetic results of garcinol indicated that good systemic exposure was achievable after ip administration of garcinol at 0.5and 2mg·kg-1 with mean peak concentration(cmax)of 1825.4 and 6635.7nmol·L-1 in the mouse serum,respectively.CONCLUSION Overall,our results suggest that garcinol can indeed potentiate the effects of cisplatin by negative regulation of various inflammatory and proliferative biomarkers. | Feng Li Muthu K.
