| 2 | Assessing the relationship between the rumen microbiota and feed efficiency in Nellore steers显示文摘Background:Ruminants rely upon a complex community of microbes in their rumen to convert host-indigestible feed into nutrients.However,little is known about the association between the rumen microbiota and feed efficiency traits in Nellore(Bos indicus)cattle,a breed of major economic importance to the global beef market.Here,we compare the composition of the bacterial,archaeal and fungal communities in the rumen of Nellore steers with high and low feed efficiency(FE)phenotypes,as measured by residual feed intake(RFI).Results:The Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio was significantly higher(P<0.05)in positive-RFI steers(p-RFI,low feed efficiency)than in negative-RFI(n-RFI,high feed efficiency)steers.The differences in bacterial composition from steers with high and low FE were mainly associated with members of the families Lachnospiraceae,Ruminococcaceae and Christensenellaceae,as well as the genus Prevotella.Archaeal community richness was lower(P<0.05)in p-RFI than in n-RFI steers and the genus Methanobrevibacter was either increased or exclusive of p-RFI steers.The fungal genus Buwchfawromyces was more abundant in the rumen solid fraction of n-RFI steers(P<0.05)and a highly abundant OTU belonging to the genus Piromyces was also increased in the rumen microbiota of highefficiency steers.However,analysis of rumen fermentation variables and functional predictions indicated similar metabolic outputs for the microbiota of distinct FE groups.Conclusions:Our results demonstrate that differences in the ruminal microbiota of high and low FE Nellore steers comprise specific taxa from the bacterial,archaeal and fungal communities.Biomarker OTUs belonging to the genus Piromyces were identified in animals showing high feed efficiency,whereas among archaea,Methanobrevibacter was associated with steers classified as p-RFI.The identification of specific RFI-associated microorganisms in Nellore steers could guide further studies targeting the isolation and functional characterization of rumen microbes potentially important for the energy-harvesting efficiency of ruminants. | Déborah Romaskevis Gomes Lopes Márcio de Souza Duarte Alex J.La Reau Ibrahim Zuniga Chaves Tiago Antônio de Oliveira Mendes Edenio Detmann Cláudia Braga Pereira Bento Maria Eugênia Zerlotti Mercadante Sarah Figueiredo Martins Bonilha Garret Suen Hilário Cuquetto Mantovani | 2021 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021，12，4： | 3 |
| 3 | Dietary approach in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) has been identified as one of the most prevalent chronic liver disease in adults and children populations. NAFLD is usually associated with the metabolic syndrome(MS), which is chiefly related to insulin resistance and its consequences. Insulin resistance has a crucial role in the pathogenesis of hepatic steatosis and potentially nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). Because of the contemporary epidemics of MS and obesity, the burden of NAFLD is also expected to rise. Unhealthy diets, such as the so-called western diet, are enriched in fructose, trans-fatty acids and saturated fat and seem to be associated with the development of NAFLD. In human studies, certain dietary sugars, particularly fructose, are used as a substrate for lipogenesis leading to hepatic fatty infiltration, inflammation, and possibly fibrosis. Other investigations have shown that fat consumption especially cholesterol and trans/saturated fatty acids are also steatogenic and seem to increase visceral adiposity. The identification of specific dietary components that favor the development of NASH could be important for the management of this disorder. | 4 | Effects of human immunodeficiency virus on the erythrocyte and megakaryocyte lineages显示文摘Anaemia and thrombocytopenia are haematological disorders that can be detected in many human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-positive patients during the development of HIV infection. The progressive decline of erythrocytes and platelets plays an important role both in HIV disease progression and in the clinical and therapeutic management of HIV-positive patients. HIV-dependent impairment of the megakaryocyte and erythrocyte lineages is multifactorial and particularly affects survival, proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow(BM) CD34+ haematopoietic progenitor cells, the activity of BM stromal cells and the regulation of cytokine networks. | 5 | Parathyroid ultrasonography and bone metabolic profile of patients on dialysis with hyperparathyroidism显示文摘AIM To evaluate the parathyroid ultrasonography and define parameters that can predict poor response to treatment in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism due to renal failure.METHODS This cohort study evaluated 85 patients with chronic kidney disease stage V with parathyroid hormone levels above 800 pg/mL. All patients underwent ultrasonography of the parathyroids and the following parameters were analyzed: Demographic characteristics(etiology of chronic kidney disease, gender, age, dialysis vintage, vascular access, use of vitamin D), laboratory(calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone, alkaline phosphatase, bone alkaline phosphatase), and the occurrence of bone changes, cardiovascular events and death. The χ~2 test were used to compare proportions or the Fisher exact test for small sample frequencies. Student t-test was used to detect differences between the two groups regarding continuous variables.RESULTS Fifty-three patients(66.4%) had parathyroid nodules with higher levels of parathyroid hormone, calcium and phosphorus. Sixteen patients underwent parathyroidectomy and had higher levels of phosphorus and calcium × phosphorus product(P = 0.03 and P = 0.006, respectively). They also had lower mortality(32% vs 68%, P = 0.01) and lower incidence of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events(27% vs 73%, P = 0.02). Calcium × phosphorus product above 55 mg^2/dL^2 [RR 1.48(1.06, 2.08), P = 0.03], presence of vascular calcification [1.33(1.01, 1.76), P = 0.015] and previous occurrence of vascular events [RR 2.25(1.27, 3.98), P < 0.001] were risk factors for mortality in this population. | 7 | Diabetic neuropathy: An evaluation of the use of quercetin in the cecum of rats显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effect of quercetin supplementation on the myenteric neurons and glia in the cecum of diabetic rats.METHODS:Total preparations of the muscular tunic were prepared from the ceca of twenty-four rats divided into the following groups:control(C),control supplemented with quercetin(200 mg/kg quercetin body weight)(CQ),diabetic(D)and diabetic supplemented with quercetin(DQ).Immunohistochemical double staining technique was performed with HuC/D(general population)/nitric oxide synthase(nNOS),HuC-D/S-100and VIP.Density analysis of the general neuronal population HuC/D-IR,the nNOS-IR(nitrergic subpopulation)and the enteric glial cells(S-100)was performed,and the morphometry and the reduction in varicosity population(VIP-IR)in these populations were analyzed.RESULTS:Diabetes promoted a significant reduction(25%)in the neuronal density of the HuC/D-IR(general population)and the nNOS-IR(nitrergic subpopulation)compared with the C group.Diabetes also significantly increased the areas of neurons,glial cells and VIP-IR varicosities.Supplementation with quercetin in the DQ group prevented neuronal loss in the general population and increased its area(P<0.001)and the area of nitrergic subpopulation(P<0.001),when compared to C group.Quercetin induced a VIP-IR and glial cells areas(P<0.001)in DQ group when compared to C,CQ and D groups.CONCLUSION:In diabetes,quercetin exhibited a neuroprotective effect by maintaining the density of the general neuronal population but did not affect the density of the nNOS subpopulation. | Paulo Emilio Botura Ferreira Cláudia Regina Pinheiro Lopes Angela Maria Pereira Alves der Paulo Belato Alves David Robert Linden Jacqueline Nelisis Zanoni Nilza Cristina Buttow | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013，19，38： | 2 |
