8pH modeling for maximum dissolved organic matter removal by enhanced coagulation显示文摘Correlations between raw water characteristics and pH after enhanced coagulation to maximize dissolved organic matter(DOM) removal using four typical coagulants(FeCl3,Al2(SO4)3,polyaluminum chloride(PACl) and high performance polyaluminum chloride(HPAC)) without pH control were investigated.These correlations were analyzed on the basis of the raw water quality and the chemical and physical fractionations of DOM of thirteen Chinese source waters over three seasons.It was found that the final pH after enhanced coagulation for each of the four coagulants was in?uenced by the content of removable DOM(i.e.hydrophobic and higher apparent molecular weight(AMW) DOM),the alkalinity and the initial pH of raw water.A set of feed-forward semi-empirical models relating the final pH after enhanced coagulation for each of the four coagulants with the raw water characteristics were developed and optimized based on correlation analysis.The established models were preliminarily validated for prediction purposes,and it was found that the deviation between the predicted data and actual data was low.This result demonstrated the potential for the application of these models in practical operation of drinking water treatment plants.Jiankun Xie Dongsheng Wang John van Leeuwen Yanmei Zhao Linan Xing Christopher W. 10Unusual switchable peroxidase-mimicking nanozyme for the determination of proteolytic biomarker显示文摘Detection of enzyme biomarkers originating from either bio-fluids or contaminating microorganisms is of utmost importance in clinical diagnostics and food safety. Herein, we present a simple, low-cost and easy-to-use sensing approach based on the switchable peroxidase-mimicking activity of plasmonic gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) that can catalyse for the oxidation of 3,3’,5’5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) for the determination of protease enzyme. The AuNP surface is modified with casein, showing dual functionalities. The first function of the coating molecule is to suppress the intrinsic peroxidase-mimicking activity of AuNPs by up to 77.1%, due to surface shielding effects. Secondly, casein also functions as recognition sites for the enzyme biomarker. In the presence of protease, the enzyme binds to and catalyses the degradation of the coating layer on the AuNP surface, resulting in the recovery of peroxidase-mimicking activity. This is shown visually in the development of a blue colored product (oxidised TMB) or spectroscopically as an increase in absorbance at 370 and 650 nm. This mechanism allows for the detection of protease at 44 ng·mL^-1 in 90 min. The nanosensor circumvents issues associated with current methods of detection in terms of ease of use, compatibility with point-of-care testing, low-cost production and short analysis time. The sensing approach has also been applied for the detection of protease spiked in ultra-heat treated (UHT) milk and synthetic human urine samples at a limit of detection of 490 and 176 ng·mL^-1, respectively, showing great potential in clinical diagnostics, food safety and quality control.Claire McVey Natasha Logan Nguyen T. 11Progress and Challenges for Live-cell Imaging of Genomic Loci Using CRISPR-based Platforms显示文摘Chromatin conformation,localization,and dynamics are crucial regulators of cellular behaviors. Although fluorescence in situ hybridization-based techniques have been widely utilized for investigating chromatin architectures in healthy and diseased states,the requirement for cell fix-ation precludes the comprehensive dynamic analysis necessary to fully understand chromatin activ-ities. This has spurred the development and application of a variety of imaging methodologies for visualizing single chromosomal loci in the native cellular context. In this review,we describe currently-available approaches for imaging single genomic loci in cells,with special focus on clus-tered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-based imaging approaches. In addition,we discuss some of the challenges that limit the application of CRISPR-based genomic imaging approaches,and potential solutions to address these challenges. 17Hydrolyzed Al(Ⅲ) clusters:Speciation stability of nano-Al_(13)显示文摘Pure nano-Al13 and aggregates at various concentrations were prepared to examine the particle size effect of coagulation with inorganic polymer flocculant.The property and stability of various species formed were characterized using Infrared,27Al-NMR,photo correlation spectroscopy(PCS),and Ferron assay.Results showed that concentration and temperature exhibited different roles on the stability of Al13.The quantity of Alb species analyzed by ferron assay in the initial aging period corresponded well with that of Al13,which has been confirmed in a dimension range of 1-2 nm by PCS.Al13 solutions at high concentrations(0.5-2.11 mol/L) were observed to undergo further aggregation with aging.The aggregates with a wide particle size distribution would contribute to the disappeared/decreased Al13 basis on the 27Al-NMR spectrum,whereas a part of Al13 would still remain as Alb.At low concentrations,Al13 solution was quite stable at normal temperature,but lost its stability quickly when heating to 90°C.Shuifeng Wang Chihpin Huang Christopher W K.
