| 3 | Interleukin-18 polymorphism as an inflammatory index in metabolic syndrome: A preliminary study显示文摘AIM To assess circulatory levels of interleukin-18(IL-18) and determine whether the presence of IL-18 promoter polymorphism influences metabolic syndrome phenotypes. METHODS This study recruited one hundred and eighty individuals divided into three groups with sixty subjects each as: Normal weight(18.0-22.9 kg/m^2), overweight(23.0-25.9 kg/m^2) and obese(> 26.0 kg/m^2) according to South Asian criteria of BMI. Fasting blood glucose(FBG), Lipid profile, insulin, IL-18 and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)α were measured using ELISA kits, whereas low density lipoprotein(LDL)-cholesterol, insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) and insulin sensitivity(QUICKI) were calculated. The body fat percentage(BF) was measured through bioelectrical impedance analysis; waist and hip circumference were measured. Genotyping of IL-18-607 C/A polymorphism was performed by using tetraprimer amplification refractory mutation system. Student t test, One-way analysis of variance, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, Pearson's χ~2 test and Pearson's correlation were used, where a P value < 0.05 was considered significant.RESULTS In an aged matched study, obese subjects showed higher levels of FBG, cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL levels as compared to normal weight(P < 0.001).Highest levels of IL-18 and TNF levels were also seen in obese subjects(IL-18: 58.87 ± 8.59 ng/L)(TNF: 4581.93 ± 2132.05 pg/m L). The percentage of IL-18-607 A/A polymorphism was higher in overweight and obese subjects vs normal weight subjects(P < 0.001). Moreover, subjects with AA genotype had a higher BF, insulin resistance, TNFα and IL-18 levels when compared with subjects with AC(heterozygous) or CC(wild type) genotypes. However, we did not find any difference in the lipid profile between three subgroups. CONCLUSION This preliminary data suggests that IL-18 polymorphism affects IL-18 levels that might cause low grade inflammation, further exacerbated by increased TNFα. All these increase the susceptibility to develop Met S. | 16 | Susceptibility patterns and virulence genotypes of Helicobacter pylori affecting eradication therapy outcomes among Egyptian patients with gastroduodenal diseases显示文摘BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)is a significant human pathogen that is responsible for a variety of illnesses,including mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma,gastric cancer,peptic ulcers,and gastritis.AIM To investigate the frequency of H.pylori infection and its resistance patterns among Egyptian patients and to determine the influence of H.pylori virulence genetic determinants on the eradication success of 14-d triple therapy regimen.METHODS H.pylori infections were investigated in 72 patients with gastroduodenal complications suggestive of H.pylori infection.The cagA and vacA genotypes of cultured strains were studied using polymerase chain reaction.The patients underwent 14 d of triple-therapy treatment.The treatment response was examined using histology and a rapid urease test 6 wk after therapy discontinuation.RESULTS The intention-to-treat eradication rate was 59.2%(95%CI:48.2%-70.3%).Rates of H.pylori resistance to clarithromycin,amoxicillin,and metronidazole were 52.8%,81.9%,and 100%,respectively.Successful eradication of H.pylori was more significantly associated with vacA s1-positive strains[adjusted odds ratio(aOR)=0.507,95%CI:0.175-0.822].A significant association was found between failed eradication rate and H.pylori strains resistant to clarithromycin(aOR=0.204,95%CI:-0.005 to 0.412)and amoxicillin(aOR=0.223,95%CI:0.026-0.537).CONCLUSION This study’s low H.pylori eradication rate following 14-d triple therapy is concerning and worrying.H.pylori pan-resistance to metronidazole followed by the high resistance to ciprofloxacin,amoxicillin,and clarithromycin in this research is challenging and of great concern. | Ahmed Morad Asaad Gasser El-Azab Eman Abdelsameea Osama Elbahr Ahmed Kamal Mohamed Abdel-Samiee Ahmed Abdelfattah Heba Abdallah Doha Maher Ahmed El-Refaie Samar Ebrahim Ghanem Shamshul Ansari Samah Mohammed Awad | 2023 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2023，29，19： | 1 |
| 17 | Data Analysis of Network Parameters for Secure Implementations of SDN-Based Firewall显示文摘Software-Defined Networking(SDN)is a new network technology that uses programming to complement the data plane with a control plane.To enable safe connection,however,numerous security challenges must be addressed.Flooding attacks have been one of the most prominent risks on the internet for decades,and they are now becoming challenging difficulties in SDN networks.To solve these challenges,we proposed a unique firewall application built on multiple levels of packet filtering to provide a flooding attack prevention system and a layer-based packet detection system.This study offers a systematic strategy for wrapping up the examination of SDN operations.The Mininet simulator examines the effectiveness of SDN-based firewalls at various network tiers.The fundamental network characteristics that specify how SDN should operate.The three main analytical measures of the network are jitter,response time,and throughput.During regular operations,their behavior evaluates in the standard SDN conditions of Transmission Control Protocol(TCP)flooding and User Datagram Protocol(UDP)flooding with no SDN occurrences.Low Orbit Ion Cannon(LOIC)is applied to launch attacks on the transmission by the allocated server.Wireshark and MATLAB are used for the behavioral study to determine how sensitive the parameters are used in the SDN network and monitor the fluctuations of those parameters for different simulated scenarios. | Rizwan Iqbal Rashid Hussain Sheeraz Arif Nadia Mustaqim Ansari Tayyab Ahmed Shaikh | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023，77，11： | 0 |

| 19 | Treatment of chronic recurrent dislocation of temporomandibular joint by autologus blood injection显示文摘Aim:The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of autologus blood injection in the management of recurrent temporomandibular joint(TMJ)dislocation.Methods:A total of 11 patients,4 males,7 females,mean age of 58.6 years and suffering from recurrent dislocation of TMJ,were included in the study.In all the patients the procedure included anesthesia-local or sedation,arthrocentesis which was followed by autologous blood injection in the upper joint cavity.The peri-articular tissues were also infiltrated with autologous blood.Post procedure advice included restricted mouth activity and liquid diet for a month.Results:The results indicate that success rate of treatment of recurrent dislocation of TMJ is 72.8%which can be considered as impressive.The recurrence was noticed in 27.2%cases after one year follow up.Conclusion:Autologus blood injection is an effective,simple,non-invasive,and safe procedure for treatment of recurrent dislocation of TMJ and can be performed on outpatient basis. | Syed Sayeed Ahmed Md.Kalim Ansari | 2016 | Plastic and Aesthetic Research2016，3，1： | 0 |
| 20 | Reno-protective effect of garlic extract against immobilization stress induced changes in rats显示文摘Objective: To examine immobilization stress-induced antioxidant defense alterations in rat kidney and the antioxidant effects of aqueous garlic extract in pre and post stress extract treatments. Methods: Albino rats were treated with aqueous extract of garlic both before and 6 h of immobilization stress. Pro-oxidant eminence of rat kidney was assessed by determining the levels of glutathione, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, glucose, uric acid, alkaline phosphatase and antioxidant enzymes activities. Results: In response to 6 h of immobilization stress, a significant rise in the level of kidney enzymes was recorded. However, antioxidant enzyme activities showed a sharp decline. Conclusions: The extract treatment before and after the stress reverted the activities of above mentioned enzymes towards their control values.
