1Carcinogenesis on the background of liver fibrosis: Implications for the management of hepatocellular cancer显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is now the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally and many patients have incurable disease. HCC predominantly occurs in the setting of liver cirrhosis and is a paradigm for inflammation-induced cancer. The causes of chronic liver disease promote the development of transformed or premalignant hepatocytes and predisposes to the development of HCC. For HCC to grow and progress it is now clear that it requires an immunosuppressive niche within the fibrogenic microenvironment of cirrhosis. The rationale for targeting this immunosuppression is supported by responses seen in recent trials with checkpoint inhibitors. With the impact of immunotherapy, HCC progression may be delayed and long term durable responses may be seen. This makes the management of the underlying liver cirrhosis in HCC even more crucial as studies demonstrate that measures of liver function are a major prognostic factor in HCC. 2Effects of Topography and Land use on Woody Plant Species Composition and Beta Diversity in an Arid Trans-Himalayan Landscape, Nepal显示文摘Distribution patterns of plant species are believed to be impacted by small-scale habitat heterogeneity. However, there have been few comparative studies examining how woody vegetation composition and diversity varies with aspects of different orientations in the Trans-Himalayan region at a local scale. Here, we examined the effects of incoming solar radiation on variation in woody species composition and compared the diversity between the northeast- and southwest-facing slopes in a Trans-Himalayan valley of Nepal. We also examined the implicit interactions between slope orientation and land use in determining the compositional variations between the slopes. We selected two pairs of northeast- and southwest-facing slopes where the first pair has a similar land use and differs in exposure only(Pisang site) while the other pair has clear differences in land use in addition to slope exposure(Braka site). In each site, we sampled 72 plots(36 on each slope) in which the presence and absence of woody species, environmental variables, and disturbance were recorded. Correspondence Analysis(CA) results suggested that the woody species composition significantly varied between northeast- and southwest-facing slopes at both sites, and was significantly correlated with measured environmental variables such as radiation index, altitude, and canopy openness. In the Braka site,mean alpha diversity was significantly higher on southwest-facing slopes. In contrast, beta diversity and gamma diversity were greater on northeast-facing slopes at both sites. Our results suggest that topographic variables(e.g., radiation index) affect species composition between the slopes, likely due to their influence on small scale abiotic environmental variables. However, the effects of land use, such as livestock browsing/grazing may interact with the effects of slope exposure, effectively reducing differences in species composition within slopes but enhancing the differences in beta diversity between contrasting slopes in the Braka. We conclude that slope orientation and land use are important factors in structuring the woody species composition and diversity in the arid Trans-Himalayan region. 4RECENT PROGRESS IN STORM SURGE FORECASTING显示文摘This report briefly summarizes recent progress in storm surge forecasts, one of topics discussed during the fourth International Workshop on Tropical Cyclone Landfall Process(IWTCLP 4) held during 5-8 December, 2017. In the workshop, improvement of storm surge forecasting system was mainly discussed with relevance to the problem of estimating the impacts of tropical cyclone landfall.To deal with storm surges, accurate TC condition(predictions and forecasts) as input, reasonable storm surge predictions(with forecasting systems), and effective advisories/warnings(i.e. useful information products) are necessary. 5Ethanol mediated As(Ⅲ) adsorption onto Zn-loaded pinecone biochar:Experimental investigation,modeling,and optimization using hybrid artificial neural network-genetic algorithm approach显示文摘Organic matters(OMs) and their oxidization products often influence the fate and transport of heavy metals in the subsurface aqueous systems through interaction with the mineral surfaces. This study investigates the ethanol(EtO H)-mediated As(Ⅲ) adsorption onto Zn-loaded pinecone(PC) biochar through batch experiments conducted under Box–Behnken design. The effect of EtO H on As(Ⅲ) adsorption mechanism was quantitatively elucidated by fitting the experimental data using artificial neural network and quadratic modeling approaches. The quadratic model could describe the limiting nature of EtO H and pH on As(Ⅲ) adsorption,whereas neural network revealed the stronger influence of Et OH(64.5%) followed by pH(20.75%)and As(Ⅲ) concentration(14.75%) on the adsorption phenomena. Besides, the interaction among process variables indicated that Et OH enhances As(Ⅲ) adsorption over a pH range of2 to 7, possibly due to facilitation of ligand–metal(Zn) binding complexation mechanism.Eventually, hybrid response surface model–genetic algorithm(RSM–GA) approach predicted a better optimal solution than RSM, i.e., the adsorptive removal of As(Ⅲ)(10.47 μg/g) is facilitated at 30.22 mg C/L of Et OH with initial As(Ⅲ) concentration of 196.77 μg/L at pH 5.8. 6Bipolar radiofrequency ablation of tibialchondroblastomas: A report of three cases显示文摘Chondroblastoma is a rare benign cartilaginous neoplasm of bone. The recurrence rate is high and complications are frequent following open curettage with bone grafting which is the standard treatment forchondroblastomas. We performed radiofrequency ablation in three cases of tibialchondroblastoma using the bipolar system. One patient experienced residual pain for which repeat ablation was performed. No other complications were observed during follow-up. Radiofrequency ablation may offer an effective alternative for the treatment of selected cases of chondroblastoma. 8Novel biomarkers and the future of targeted therapies in cholangiocarcinoma:a narrative review显示文摘Background and Objectives:Cholangiocarcinoma is a highly aggressive and heterogenous group of biliary malignancies arising from any site in the biliary tree,comprising 15%of all primary liver cancers.The nature of the disease and nonspecific presentation leads to late diagnosis and ultimately poor outcomes for patients.Combination gemcitabine and cisplatin has been the standard of care for cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)since 2010,with a median overall survival of 11.7 months.The five-year survival for CCA remains 5-10%,revealing a clear need for improved treatment options.Methods:This targeted review highlights the role of next generation sequencing in CCA and the clinically relevant tumor biomarkers that have become the focus of therapeutic development.Key Content and Findings:These tumor biomarkers or actionable mutations hold the potential to enable earlier diagnosis,provide prognostic information,and guide treatment decisions for patients with CCA.Specifically,the FGFR2 fusion and IDH1 mutation have shown considerable promise in development of targeted therapies.Clinical trials with inhibitors targeting FGFR2 fusion and IDH1 mutation have created expectations that these drugs will soon enter clinical practice.Other biomarkers including KRAS and B-raf protooncogenes,Her2/neu genes,and BRCA1 and 2 tumor-suppressor genes have also been touted as potential targets for future therapies,with early data showing promise for new drug development.Conclusions:The discovery of these actionable mutations and identification of targeted therapies have challenged the notion of a“one-size fits all”for treatment of CCA,and generated optimism that these novel treatments will soon be available for patients with CCA.Nishant Munugala Shishir K.Maithel Rachna T.Shroff 2022Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2022,11,2:2

10An empirical L-band scintillation model for a mid-latitude station,Weihai, China during the low solar activity period显示文摘Mid-latitude ionospheric scintillation has been studied in very poor proportion as compared to the equatorial and high latitude ionospheric scintillation. Mid-latitude ionospheric scintillations are often associated with either day time photo-ionization or due to the storm enhanced density. Using the phase screen model and the wave propagation theory in random media, we have identified the orientation of the ionospheric irregularities over Weihai with the local geomagnetic field. Amplitude and phase scintillation data observed using global positioning system(GPS) scintillation receiver deployed at the mid-latitude observation station Weihai, have been used along with K-index derived from the horizontal magnetic field component of the local magnetometer. The proposed model uses the scintillation indices relationship with the local K-index. We identified the scintillation dependence over local K-index during geomagnetic quiet and disturbed condition. This dependence coefficient is used on the real scintillation data for modeling. The presented scintillation model has been validated by comparing it to the real observations. 11A comprehensive review of the application of nano-silica in oil well cementing显示文摘Oil and Gas Industry is a Multi-Billion Dollar Industry.Drilling a well is costly,right from exploration to drilling and production to Enhanced Oil Recovery(EOR).Nanotechnology has the potential to introduce revolutionary changes in several areas of the oil and gas industry,such as exploration,drilling,cementation,production,EOR,etc.Use of Nanotechnology in the cement slurry can also achieve solutions to some of the problems pertaining to oil well cementation.Nano-silica is a better alternative compared to conventional additives like calcium chloride and silica,because as compared to calcium chloride and silica,the amount of nano-silica to be added is very small.Nano-silica acts as a multi-functional additive.Upon addition of nano-silica to cement slurry,there is a decrease in the thickening time,an increase in the compressive strength,decrease in porosity and permeability within the cement and also a decrease in the fluid loss.Incorporation of nano-silica ensures proper cementation and greater integrity of the well.Nano-silica helps in decreasing the wait on cement(WOC)time and therefore reduces the overall capital cost.Nano-silica is highly recommended for deep offshore wells where high temperature and high pressure are often encountered.This paper discusses the behavior of Nano-silica at high temperatures and also reviews effects of Nano-silica on various properties of cement.Akshar Thakkar Aakash Raval Shishir Chandra Manan Shah Anirbid Sircar 2020Petroleum2020,6,2:2
