1Predicting thermal conductivity of liquid suspensions of nanoparticles (nanofluids) based on rheology显示文摘A methodology is proposed for predicting the effective thermal conductivity of dilute suspensions of nanoparticles(nanofluids) based on rheology.The methodology uses the rheological data to infer microstructures of nanoparticles quantitatively,which is then incorporated into the conventional Hamilton-Crosser equation to predict the effective thermal conductivity of nanofluids.The methodology is experimentally validated using four types of nanofluids made of titania nanoparticles and titanate nanotubes dispersed in water and ethylene glycol.And the modified Hamilton-Crosser equation successfully predicted the effective thermal conductivity of the nanofluids.Haisheng Chen Sanjeeva Witharanaa Yi Jin Chongyoup Kim Yulong Ding 2009Particuology2009,7,2:9
2Effect of technical parameters on transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts utilizing stent grafts显示文摘AIM: To assess the effect of technical parameters on outcomes of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) created using a stent graft.METHODS: The medical records of 68 patients who underwent TIPS placement with a stent graft from 2008 to 2014 were reviewed by two radiologists blinded to the patient outcomes.Digital Subtraction Angiographic images with a measuring catheter in two orthogonal planes was used to determine the TIPS stent-to-inferior vena cava distance(SIVCD),hepatic vein to parenchymal tract angle(HVTA),portal vein to parenchymal tract angle(PVTA),and the accessed portal vein.The length and diameter of the TIPS stent and the use of concurrent variceal embolization were recorded by review of the patient's procedure note.Data on re-intervention within 30 d of TIPS placement,recurrence of symptoms,and survival were collected through the patient's chart.Cox proportional regression analysis was performed to assess the effect of these technical parameters on primary patency of TIPS,time to recurrence of symptoms,and all-cause mortality.RESULTS: There was no significant associationbetween the SIVCD and primary patency(P = 0.23),time to recurrence of symptoms(P = 0.83),or allcause mortality(P = 0.18).The 3,6,and 12-mo primary patency rates for a SIVCD ≥ 1.5 cm were 82.4%,64.7%,and 50.3% compared to 89.3%,83.8%,and 60.6% for a SIVCD of < 1.5 cm(P = 0.29).The median time to stenosis for a SIVCD of ≥ 1.5 cm was 19.1 mo vs 15.1 mo for a SIVCD of < 1.5 cm(P = 0.48).There was no significant association between the following factors and primary patency: HVTA(P = 0.99),PVTA(P = 0.65),accessed portal vein(P = 0.35),TIPS stent diameter(P = 0.93),TIPS stent length(P = 0.48),concurrent variceal embolization(P = 0.13) and reinterventions within 30 d(P = 0.24).Furthermore,there was no correlation between these technical parameters and time to recurrence of symptoms or all-cause mortality.Recurrence of symptoms was associated with stent graft stenosis(P = 0.03).CONCLUSION: TIPS stent-to-caval distance and other parameters have no significant effect on primary patency,time to recurrence of symptoms,or all-cause mortality following TIPS with a stent-graft.Brice Andring Sanjeeva P Kalva Patrick Sutphin Rajiv Srinivasa Alvin Anene Marc Burrell Yin Xi Anil K Pillai 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,26:7
3Decomposition of trifluoromethane in a dielectric barrier discharge non-thermal plasma reactor显示文摘The decomposition of trifluoromethane (CHF3) was carried out using non-thermal plasma generated in a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor. The effects of reactor temperature, electric power, initial concentration and oxygen content were examined. The DBD reactor was able to completely destroy CHF3 with alumina beads as a packing material. The decomposition efficiency increased with increasing electric power and reactor temperature. The destruction of CHF3 gradually increased with the addition of O2 up to 2%, but further increase in the oxygen content led to a decrease in the decomposition efficiency. The degradation pathways were explained with the identified by-products. The main by-products from CHF3 were found to be COF2, CF4, CO2 and CO although the COF2 and CF4 disappeared when the plasma were combined with alumina catalyst.M. Sanjeeva Gandhi Y. S. 6Larvicidal potential of selected indigenous lichens against three mosquito species–Culex quinquefasciatus, Aedes aegypti and Anopheles stephensi显示文摘Objective:Mosquitoes are the major transmitting vectors of serious human diseases,causing millions of deaths every year with undesirable effects,including toxicity to non-target organisms.Some plants with insecticidal properties have been used in recent years for the control of a variety of pest insects and vectors.In the quest for alternative natural biological control agents against mosquito larvae lichens were selected.Method:Larvicidal activity was assessed with methanolic extracts of Parmotrema reticulatum,Parmotrema kamatti,Parmotrema tinctorum,Parmelia erumpens,Leptogium papilosum,and Roccella montagnei against Aedes aegypti,Anopheles stephensi,and Culex quinquefasciatus.The standard WHO protocols with minor modifications were adopted and the bioassay was evaluated at the concentrations of 100–500μg/m L for each lichen.Since all the lichen extracts showed complete mortality against C.quinquefasciatus in100μg/m L,the concentrations were decreased to 100,50,25,12.5,and 6.25μg/m L for C.quinquefasciatus.Larval mortality was observed for 24 h after treatment.Results:All the lichen extracts exhibited activity against third instar larvae of A.aegypti and A.stephensi at 100μg/m L,and 100%mortality was observed against the vector C.quinquefasciatus at 100μg/m L.The highest larvicidal activity was found with L.papilosum against A.aegypti(81.127μg/m L)and A.stephensi(89.10μg/m L).Similarly,P.tinctorum and R.montagnei when tested against C.quinquefasciatus with minimum concentration<100μg/m L exhibited significant activity withof 5.32and 6.97μg/m L.Conclusion:The bioassay results revealed larvicidal potential of lichens especially against C.quinquefasciatus with high mortality even at lower concentration.Hence,lichens can be used as an ideal sustainable approach for the control of lymphatic filariasis caused by vector C.quinquefasciatus.Syed Zameer Ahmed Khader Sidhra Syed Zameer Ahmed Kisore Perundurai Venkatesh Kamaraj Chinnaperumal Sanjeeva Nayaka 2018Chinese Herbal Medicines2018,10,2:2
7Wide spectrum solar energy harvesting through an integrated photovoltaic and thermoelectric system显示文摘This paper proposes a power system concept that integrates photovoltaic(PV)and thermoelectric(TE)technologies to harvest solar energy from a wide spectral range.By introduction of the 'spectrum beam splitting' technique,short wavelength solar radiation is converted directly into electricity in the PV cells,while the long wavelength segment of the spectrum is used to produce moderate to high temperature thermal energy,which then generates electricity in the TE device.To overcome the intermittent nature of solar radiation,the system is also coupled to a thermal energy storage unit.A systematic analysis of the integrated system is carried out,encompassing the system configuration,material properties,thermal management,and energy storage aspects.We have also attempted to optimize the integrated system.The results indicate that the system configuration and optimization are the most important factors for high overall efficiency.Yongliang Li Sanjeeva Witharana Hui Cao Mathieu Lasfargues Yun Huang Yulong Ding 2014Particuology2014,12,4:2
