1Statistical design and evaluation of a propranolol HCl gastric floating tablet显示文摘The purpose of this research was to apply statistical design for the preparation of a gastric floating tablet(GFT)of propranolol HCl and to investigate the effect of formulation variables on drug release and the buoyancy properties of the delivery system.The contents of polyethylene oxide(PEO)WSR coagulant and sodium bicarbonate were used as independent variables in central composite design of the best formulation.Main effects and interaction terms of the formulation variables were evaluated quantitatively using a mathematical model approach showing that both independent variables have significant effects on floating lag time,%drug release at 1 h(D_(1h))and time required to release 90%of the drug(t_(90)).The desired function was used to optimize the response variables,each with a different target,and the observed responses were in good agreement with the experimental values.FTIR and DSC studies of the statistically optimized formulation revealed there was no chemical interaction between drug and polymer.The statistically optimized formulation released drug according to first order kinetics with a non-Fickian diffusion mechanism.Evaluation of the optimized formulation in vivo in human volunteers showed that the GFT was buoyant in gastric fluid and that its gastric residence time was enhanced in the fed but not the fasted state.Meka Venkata Srikanth Nali Sreenivasa Rao Songa Ambedkar Sunil Battu Janaki Ram Venkata Ramana Murthy Kolapalli 2012Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,1:6
2Laparoscopic liver resection:Wedge resections to living donor hepatectomy, are we heading in the right direction?显示文摘Despite inception over 15 years ago and over 3000 completed procedures, laparoscopic liver resection has remained mainly in the domain of selected centers and enthusiasts. Requirement of extensive open liver resection(OLR) experience, in-depth understanding of anatomy and considerable laparoscopic technical expertise may have delayed wide application. However healthy scepticism of its actual benefits and presence of a potential publication bias; concern about its safety and technical learning curve, are probably equally responsible. Given that a large proportion of our work, at least in transplantation is still OLR, we have attempted to provide an entirely unbiased, mature opinion of its pros and cons in the current invited review. We have dividedthis review into two sections as we believe they merit separate attention on technical and ethical grounds. The first part deals with laparoscopic liver resection(LLR) in patients who present with benign or malignant liver pathology, wherein we have discussed its overall outcomes; its feasibility based on type of pathology and type of resection and included a small section on application of LLR in special scenarios like cirrhosis. The second part deals with the laparoscopic living donor hepatectomy(LDH) experience to date, including its potential impact on transplantation in general. Donor safety, graft outcomes after LDH and criterion to select ideal donors for LLR are discussed. 4Build-up dynamics in bidirectional soliton fiber lasers显示文摘Bidirectional ultrafast fiber lasers present an attractive solution,enabling the generation of two mutually coherent ultrashort pulse trains in a simple and turnkey system.Still,the lack of a comprehensive numerical model describing steady-state bidirectional generation,and even less ultrafast soliton breakdowns and collisions,is obstructing the achievement of the performance compared with unidirectional lasers.In this paper,we have experimentally investigated real-time build-up dynamics of counter-propagating solitons in an ultrafast ring Er-doped fiber laser via the dispersive Fourier transform methodology.We parade that counter-propagating pulses experience independent build-up dynamics from modulation instability,undergoing breathing dynamics and diverging subordinate pulse structure formation and annihilation to a stable bidirectional pulse train.Yet,the interaction of pulses in the cavity presents the key underlying phenomenon driving formation evolution distinct from unidirectional pulse build-up.Our findings will provide physical foundations for bidirectional ultrafast fiber laser design to carry forward their application.IGOR KUDELIN SRIKANTH SUGAVANAM MARIA CHERNYSHEVA 2020Photonics Research2020,8,6:3

6Effect of organo-modified montmorillonite nanoclay on mechanical,thermal and ablation behavior of carbon fiber/phenolic resin composites显示文摘The mechanical,thermal and ablation properties of carbon phenolic(C-Ph)composites(Type-I)reinforced with different weight percentages of organo-modified montmorillonite(o-MMT)nanoclay have been studied experimentally.Ball milling was used to disperse different weight(wt)percentages(0,1,2,4,6 wt.%)of nanoclay into phenolic resin.Viscosity changes to resin due to nanoclay was studied.On the other hand,nanoclay added phenolic matrix composites(Type-II)were prepared to study the dispersion of nanoclay in phenolic matrix by small angle X-ray scattering and thermal stability changes to the matrix by thermogravimetric analyser(TGA).This data was used to understand the mechanical,thermal and ablation properties of Type-I composites.Inter laminar shear strength(ILSS),flexural strength and flexural modulus of Type I composites increased by about 29%,12%and 7%respectively at2 wt.%addition of nanoclay beyond which these properties decreased.This was attributed to reduced fiber volume fraction(%Vf)of Type-I composites due to nanoclay addition at such high loadings.Mass ablation rate of Type-I composites was evaluated using oxy acetylene torch test at low heat flux(125 W/cm^(2))and high heat flux levels(500 W/cm^(2)).Mass ablation rates have increased at both flux levels marginally up to 2 wt.%addition of nanoclay beyond which it has increased significantly.This is in contrast to increased thermal stability observed for Type-I and Type-II composites up to 2 wt.%addition of nanoclay.Increased ablation rates due to nanoclay addition was attributed to higher insulation efficiency of nanolcay,which accumulates more heat energy in limited area behind the ablation front and self-propagating ablation mechanisms triggered by thermal decomposition of organic part of nanoclay.Golla Rama Rao Ivautri Srikanth K.Laxma Reddy 2021Defence Technology(防务技术)2021,17,3:2

9Deterioration models for prediction of remaining useful life of timber and concrete bridges:A review显示文摘Bridge deterioration models are used for prioritization and maintenance of bridges.These models can be broadly classified as deterministic and stochastic models.There are mechanistic models(or physical models)as well as Artificial Intelligence(AI)-based models,each of which can be stochastic or deterministic in nature.Even though there are several existing deterioration models,state-based stochastic Markov chain-based model is widely employed in bridge management programs.This paper presents a critical review of different bridge deterioration models highlighting the advantages and limitations of each model.The models are applied to some case studies of timber superstructure and concrete bridge decks.Examples are illustrated for arriving at bridge deterioration models using deterministic,stochastic and Artificial Neural Network(ANN)-based models based on National Bridge Inventory(NBI)data.The first example is based on deterministic model and the second on stochastic model.The deterministic model uses the NBI records for the years 1992-2012,while the stochastic model uses the NBI records for one year(2011-2012).The stochastic model is state-based Markov chain model developed using Transition Probability Matrix(TPM)obtained by Percentage Prediction Method(PPM).The two deterioration models(i.e.,deterministic and stochastic models)are applied to timber highway bridge superstructure using NBI condition data for bridges in Florida,Georgia,South Carolina and North Carolina.The illustrated examples show that the deterministic model provides higher accuracy in the predicted condition value than the stochastic Markov chain-based model.If the model is developed based on average of transition probabilities considering the data for the period 1992 to 2012,the prediction accuracy of stochastic model will improve.Proper data filtering of condition records aids in improving the accuracy of the deterministic models.The third example illustrates the ANN-based deterioration model for reinforced concrete bridge decks in Florida based on the NBI condition data for the years 1992-2012.The training set accuracy and testing set accuracy in the ANN model are found to be 91%and 88%respectively.The trained model is utilized to generate missing condition data to fill the gaps due to irregular inspections of concrete bridges.This paper also discusses scope for future research on bridge deterioration modeling.Ishwarya Srikanth Madasamy Arockiasamy 2020Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2020,7,2:2
10Probing the degradation of pharmaceuticals in urine using MFC and studying their removal efficiency by UPLC-MS/MS显示文摘Nutrient recovery from source-separated human urine has attracted interest as it is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus that can be utilized as fertilizer.However,urine also contains pharmaceuticals,steroid hormones,etc.and their removal is crucial as they have detrimental effects on the environment and human health.The current study focuses on investigating the degradation of pharmaceuticals using a double-chamber microbial fuel cell(MFC).Urine was spiked with four pharmaceuticals(trimethoprim,lamivudine,levofloxacin,and estrone)at a concentration of 2 mg/mL.The MFC was operated for 7 months in batch mode with this spiked urine as feed.The degradation efficiency of the MFC was studied,for which a selective liquid chromatography-tandem mass-spectrometric method was developed for the quantitation of compounds used in the spiking experiments and was validated with a lower limit of quantification of 0.39 ng/mL.The maximum removal rate achieved was 96%±2%.The degradation mechanism involved processes like sorption and anoxic biodegradation.The voltage curve obtained showed that the presence of pharmaceuticals had an initial negative impact on power generation along with increased organic content;however,after the reactor acclimatization,increased power output was achieved with maximum organics removal at 30 h of retention time.This work opens a new perspective for the anoxic biodegradation of pharmaceuticals and can be useful in future bioremediation studies.Priya Sharma Devendra Kumar Srikanth Mutnuri 2021Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2021,11,3:2
11Crop and weed discrimination using Laws’ texture masks显示文摘Computers have become an integral part of human lives.Computers are used in almost every field even in agriculture.Technologies like computer vision-based pattern recognition are being used to detect diseases and pests like weeds affecting the crop.The Weeds are unwanted plants growing among crops competing for nutrients,water,and sunlight.It can significantly reduce the quality and yield of the crops incurring a huge loss to the farmers.This paper investigates the use of texture features extracted from Laws’texture masks for discrimination of Carrot crops and weeds in digital images.Laws’texture method is one of the popular methods used to extract texture features in medical image processing,though not much explored in plant-based images or agricultural images.This experiment was carried out on two categories of benchmark digital image datasets of Carrot crop and Carrot weed respectively,which are publicly available.A total of 70 texture features were extracted.The dimensionality reduction technique was used to get the optimal features.These features were then used to train the Random Forest classifier.The results and observations from the experiment showed that the classifier achieved above 94%accuracy.Radhika Kamath Mamatha Balachandra Srikanth Prabhu 2020International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2020,13,1:2

13Left ventricular myxoma:Missed vs metastatic显示文摘Left ventricular myxomas account for 2.5% of all cardiac myxoma cases.There are very few case reports on left ventricular myxoma(LVM) presented after complete surgical resection of left atrial myxoma.Here we report a case of a 58-year-old male presented to the hospital for transient limb weakness,numbness and dysarthria.Magnetic resonance image of the brain revealed multiple thromboembolic cerebrovascular accidents.Transthoracic echocardiogram(TTE) revealed a left atrial myxoma.It was resected completely with good surgical margins.After one and half year he started having dizziness,and transient right sided weakness.Computer tomography scan of the head revealed a progression of thromboembolic disease.TTE revealed a LVM that was confirmed by transesophageal echocardiogram.It was resected with good surgical margins 3 wk after recurrent cerebrovascular accident.Srikanth Seethala 2013World Journal of Cardiology2013,5,10:2
14Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma:The need for a timely diagnosis显示文摘Cardiac papillary fibroelastomas(CPFs) are the second most common primary cardiac tumors and the most common cardiac valvular tumors. Although they are histologically benign and usually asymptomatic, CPFs can lead to serious and life-threatening complications like myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolus, cardiac arrest etc. CPFs represent a rare entity in clinical medicine and literature regarding their management is limited. We report two cases which illustrate such complications arising from undiagnosed CPFs on the aortic valve. 16A three-dimensional polyhedral unit model for grain boundary structure in fcc metals显示文摘One of the biggest challenges in developing truly bottom-up models for the performance of polycrystalline materials is the lack of robust quantitative structure-property relationships for interfaces.As a first step in analyzing such relationships,we present a polyhedral unit model to classify the geometrical nature of atomic packing along grain boundaries.While the atomic structure in disordered systems has been a topic of interest for many decades,geometrical analyses of grain boundaries has proven to be particularly challenging because of the wide range of structures that are possible depending on the underlying macroscopic crystallographic character.In this article,we propose an algorithm that can partition the atomic structure into a connected array of three-dimensional polyhedra,and thus,present a three-dimensional polyhedral unit model for grain boundaries.A point-pattern matching algorithm is also provided for quantifying the distortions of the observed grain boundary polyhedral units.The polyhedral unit model is robust enough to capture the structure of high-Σ,mixed character interfaces and,hence,provides a geometric tool for comparing grain boundary structures across the five-parameter crystallographic phase-space.Since the obtained polyhedral units circumscribe the voids present in the structure,such a description provides valuable information concerning segregation sites within the grain boundary.We anticipate that this technique will serve as a powerful tool in the analysis of grain boundary structure.The polyhedral unit model is also applicable to a wide array of material systems as the proposed algorithm is not limited by the underlying lattice structure.Arash Dehghan Banadaki Srikanth Patala 2017npj Computational Materials2017,,1:2

20Treatment outcomes of visceral leishmaniasis in Ethiopia from 2001 to 2017:a systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background:Ethiopia has the highest number of visceral leishmaniasis(VL)cases after Sudan in Sub-Saharan Africa.However,there was lack of comprehensive data on VL treatment outcome despite the huge burden of the diseases in the country.Hence,we aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on this topic to obtain stronger evidence on treatment outcomes of VL from the existing literature in Ethiopia.Methods:The Cochrane guidelines to conduct meta-analysis following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis statement was used to conduct a computerized systematic search of the PubMed,Google Scholar,and ScienceDirect databases.Random effects model was used to combine studies showing heterogeneity of Cochrane Q P<0.10 and I2>50.Treatment outcomes were assessed at end of treatment and at 6 months follow-up.Subgroup analyses were performed on treatment outcomes based on the different antileishmanial treatment options and patients’HIV status.Results:Fifteen studies were included in the final analyses.At end of treatment,an overall treatment success rate of 82.6%was noticed.At 6 months follow-up,the overall treatment success rate was 72.2%.For patients treated with sodium stibogluconate(SSG),the treatment success rates at the end of treatment and at six-month follow-up were 81.5%and 80.7%,respectively.Multiple doses of liposomal-amphotericin B(L-AMB)had treatment success rates of 96.7 and 71-100%at the end of treatment and at 6 months follow-up,respectively.The combination of SSG with paromomycin(PM)gave treatment success rates of up to 90.1%at the end of treatment.HIV-infected individuals were found to have a higher mortality(odds ratio=4.77,95%CI:1.30-17.43,P=0.009)rate at 6 months follow-up.Conclusions:SSG alone has shown lower treatment efficacy in the management of VL when compared to combination of SSG with PM and multiple doses of L-AMB.The combination of SSG with PM gave good treatment success rates with shorter duration of treatment.Hence,the combination of SSG with PM should be used preferentially over SSG monotherapy.Multiple doses of L-AMB showed great efficacy especially among patients with complications,severe disease,HIV co-infection,and intolerance to the adverse effects of antimonials.HIVinfected individuals had a worse prognosis than their HIV-negative counterparts.Eyob Alemayehu Gebreyohannes Akshaya Srikanth Bhagvathula Tadesse Melaku Abegaz Mohammed Assen Seid 2018Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018,7,1:1
