| 1 | Methylated and thiolated arsenic species for environmental and health research——A review on synthesis and characterization显示文摘Hundreds of millions of people around the world are exposed to elevated concentrations of inorganic and organic arsenic compounds, increasing the risk of a wide range of health effects. Studies of the environmental fate and human health effects of arsenic require authentic arsenic compounds. We summarize here the synthesis and characterization of more than a dozen methylated and thiolated arsenic compounds that are not commercially available. We discuss the methods of synthesis for the following14 trivalent(Ⅲ) and pentavalent() arsenic compounds: monomethylarsonous acid(MMA~Ⅲ), dicysteinylmethyldithioarsenite(MMA~Ⅲ(Cys)_2), monomethylarsonic acid(MMA~Ⅴ),monomethylmonothioarsonic acid(MMMTAⅤ) or monothio-MMA~Ⅴ, monomethyldithioarsonic acid(MMDTA~Ⅴ) or dithio-MMA~Ⅴ, monomethyltrithioarsonate(MMTTA~Ⅴ) or trithio-MMA~Ⅴ,dimethylarsinous acid(DMA~Ⅲ), dimethylarsino-glutathione(DMA~Ⅲ(SG)), dimethylarsinic acid(DMA~Ⅴ), dimethylmonothioarsinic acid(DMMTA~Ⅴ) or monothio-DMAⅤ, dimethyldithioarsinic acid(DMDTA~Ⅴ) or dithio-DMA~Ⅴ, trimethylarsine oxide(TMAO~Ⅴ), arsenobetaine(AsB), and an arsenicin-A model compound. We have reviewed and compared the available methods,synthesized the arsenic compounds in our laboratories, and provided characterization information. | 2 | Different antibiotic susceptibility between antrum and corpus of the stomach,a possible reason for treatment failure of Helicobacter pylori infection显示文摘AIM:To assess whether antibiotic resistance varies between the antrum and corpus of the stomach of patients that are either Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)therapy-naive or pre-treated.METHODS:H.pylori strains were isolated from antrum and corpus biopsies from 66 patients that received a diagnostic gastroduodenoscopy for variant clinical indications.Antimicrobial susceptibility to amoxicillin,clarithromycin,tetracycline,metronidazole,levofloxacin and rifabutin was tested with the E-test method on IsoSensitest agar with 10 vol%defibrinated horse blood.In patients with a different antibiotic susceptibility pattern between the isolates from the antrum and corpus,DNA fingerprinting via random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis was performed to detect differences among DNA patterns of H.pylori isolates.RESULTS:Primary,secondary and tertiary resistance to clarithromycin was 6.9%,53.8%and 83.3%,retrospectively.Metronidazole and levofloxacin resistance also increased according to the number of previous treatments(17.2%,69.2%,83.3%;13.8%,23.1%,33.3%).Tertiary resistance to rifabutin was detected in12.5%of patients.In none of the 66 patients a resistance against amoxicillin or tetracycline was detectable.Discordant antibiotic susceptibility between antrum and corpus isolates for different antibiotics was seen in 15.2%(10/66)of the patients.Two out of those ten patients were naive to any H.pylori antibiotic treatment.The remaining eight patients previously received at least one eradication therapy.DNA fingerprinting analysis revealed no substantial differences among DNA patterns between antrum and corpus isolates in the majority of patients suggesting an infection with a single H.pylori strain.CONCLUSION:Different antibiotic susceptibility between antrum and corpus biopsies is a common phenomenon and a possible explanation for treatment failure.Resistant H.pylori strains may be missed if just one biopsy from one anatomic site of the stomach is taken for H.pylori susceptibility testing. | Michael Selgrad Ina Tammer Cosima Langner Jan Bornschein Julia Mei?le Arne Kandulski Mariya Varbanova Thomas Wex Dirk Schlüter Peter Malfertheiner | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，43： | 10 |
| 3 | Chloramination of wastewater effluent: Toxicity and formation of disinfection byproducts显示文摘The reclamation and disinfection of waters impacted by human activities(e.g., wastewater effluent discharges) are of growing interest for various applications but has been associated with the formation of toxic nitrogenous disinfection byproducts(N-DBPs). Monochloramine used as an alternative disinfectant to chlorine can be an additional source of nitrogen in the formation of N-DBPs. Individual toxicity assays have been performed on many DBPs, but few studies have been conducted with complex mixtures such as wastewater effluents. In this work, we compared the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of wastewater effluent organic matter(Ef OM) before and after chloramination. The toxicity of chloraminated Ef OM was significantly higher than the toxicity of raw Ef OM, and the more hydrophobic fraction(HPO)isolated on XAD-8 resin was more toxic than the fraction isolated on XAD-4 resin.More DBPs were also isolated on the XAD-8 resin. N-DBPs(i.e., haloacetonitriles or haloacetamides) were responsible for the majority of the cytotoxicity estimated from DBP concentrations measured in the XAD-8 and XAD-4 fractions(99.4% and 78.5%, respectively).Measured DBPs accounted for minor proportions of total brominated and chlorinated products, which means that many unknown halogenated compounds were formed and can be responsible for a significant part of the toxicity. | 10 | Biodegradable magnesium pins enhanced the healing of transverse patellar fracture in rabbits显示文摘Displaced fractures of patella often require open reduction surgery and internal fixation to restore the extensor continuity and articular congruity.Fracture fixation with biodegradable magnesium(Mg)pins enhanced fracture healing.We hypothesized that fixation with Mg pins and their degradation over time would enhance healing of patellar fracture radiologically,mechanically,and histologically.Transverse patellar fracture surgery was performed on thirty-two 18-weeks old female New Zealand White Rabbits.The fracture was fixed with a pin made of stainless steel or pure Mg,and a figure-of-eight stainless steel band wire.Samples were harvested at week 8 or 12,and assessed with microCT,tensile testing,microindentation,and histology.Microarchitectural analysis showed that Mg group showed 12%higher in the ratio of bone volume to tissue volume at week 8,and 38.4%higher of bone volume at week 12.Tensile testing showed that the failure load and stiffness of Mg group were 66.9%and 104%higher than the control group at week 8,respectively.At week 12,Mg group was 60.8%higher in ultimate strength than the control group.Microindentation showed that,compared to the Control group,Mg group showed 49.9%higher Vickers hardness and 31%higher elastic modulus at week 8 and 12,respectively.At week 12,the new bone of Mg group remodelled to laminar bone,but those of the control group remained woven bone-like.Fixation of transverse patellar fracture with Mg pins and its degradation enhanced new bone formation and mechanical properties of the repaired patella compared to the Control group. | Dick Ho Kiu Chow Jiali Wang Peng Wan Lizhen Zheng Michael Tim Yun Ong Le Huang Wenxue Tong Lili Tan Ke Yang Ling Qin | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021，6，11： | 3 |
| 11 | Clinical classification of symptomatic heterotopic pancreas of the stomach and duodenum:A case series and systematic literature review显示文摘BACKGROUND Heterotopic pancreas(HP)is an aberrant anatomic malformation that occurs most commonly in the upper gastrointestinal tract.While the majority of heterotopic pancreatic lesions are asymptomatic,many manifest severe clinical symptoms which require surgical or endoscopic intervention.Understanding of the clinical manifestations and symptoms of HP is limited due to the lack of large volume studies in the literature.The purpose of this study is to review symptomatic cases at a single center and compare these to a systematic review of the literature in order to characterize common clinical manifestations and treatment of this disease.AIM To classify the common clinical manifestations of heterotopic pancreas.METHODS A retrospective review was conducted of pathologic samples containing heterotopic pancreas from 2000-2018.Review was limited to HP of the upper gastrointestinal tract due to the frequency of presentation in this location.Symptomatic patients were identified from review of the medical records and clinical symptoms were tabulated.These were compared to a systematic review of the literature utilizing Pub Med and Embase searches for papers pertaining to heterotopic pancreas.Publications describing symptomatic presentation of HP were selected for review.Information including demographics,symptoms,presentation and treatment were compiled and analyzed.RESULTS Twenty-nine patient were identified with HP at a single center,with six of these identified has having clinical symptoms.Clinical manifestations included,gastrointestinal bleeding,gastric ulceration with/without perforation,pancreatitis,and gastric outlet obstruction.Systemic review of the literature yielded 232 publications detailing symptomatic cases with only 20 studies describing ten or more patients.Single and multi-patient studies were combined to form a cohort of 934 symptomatic patients.The majority of patients presented with abdominal pain(67%)combined with one of the following clinical categories:(1)Dyspepsia,(n=445,48%);(2)Pancreatitis(n=260,28%);(3)Gastrointestinal bleeding(n=80,9%);and(4)Gastric outlet obstruction(n=80,9%).The majority of cases(n=832,90%)underwent surgical or endoscopic resection with 85%reporting resolution or improvement in their symptoms.CONCLUSION Heterotopic pancreas can cause significant clinical symptoms in the upper gastrointestinal tract.Better understanding and classification of this disease may result in more accurate identification and treatment of this malformation. | Michael T Le Compte Brandon Mason Keenan J Robbins Motoyo Yano Deyali Chatterjee Ryan C Fields Steven M Strasberg William G Hawkins | 2022 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2022，28，14： | 3 |
