1Late Cenozoic high-resolution magnetostratigraphy in the Kunlun Pass Basin and its implications for the uplift of the northern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The Kunlun Pass Basin, located in the middle of the eastern Kunlun Mountains, received relatively continuous late Cenozoic sediments from the surrounding mountains, archiving great information to understand the deformation and uplift histories of the northern Tibetan Plateau. The Kunlun-Yellow River Movement, identified from the tectonomorphologic and sedimentary evolution of the Kunlun Pass Basin by Cui Zhijiu et al. (1997, 1998), is roughly coincident with many important global and Plateau climatic and environmental events, becoming a crucial time interval to understand tectonic-climatic interactions. However, the ages used to constrict the events remain great uncertainty. Here, we present the results of detailed magnetostratigraphy of the late Cenozoic sediments in the Kunlun Pass Basin, which show the basin sediments were formed between about 3.6 Ma and 0.5 Ma and the Kunlun-Yellow River Movement occurred at 1.2 to ~0.78 Ma. The lithology, sedimentary facies and lithofacies associations divide the basin into five stages of tectonosedimentary evolution, indicating the northern Tibetan Plateau having experienced five episodes of tectonic uplifts at ~3.6, 2.69-2.58, 1.77, 1.2, 0.87 and ~0.78 Ma since the Pliocene.SONG Chunhui GAO Dongling FANG Xiaomin CUI Zhijiu LI Jijun YANG Shengi JIN Hongbo Douglas Burbank Joseph L. 3Dynamics of Nitrogen Speciation in Horticultural Soils in Suburbs of Shanghai,China显示文摘Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) represents a significant pool of soluble nitrogen (N) in soil ecosystems.Soil samples under three different horticultural management practices were collected from the Xiaxiyang Organic Vegetable and Fruit Farm,Shanghai,China,to investigate the dynamics of N speciation during 2 months of aerobic incubation,to compare the effects of different soils on the mineralization of 14 C-labeled amino acids and peptides,and to determine which of the pathways in the decomposition and subsequent ammonification and nitrification of organic N represented a significant blockage in soil N supply.The dynamics of N speciation was found to be significantly affected by mineralization and immobilization.DON,total free amino acids,and NH + 4-N were maintained at very low levels and did not accumulate,whereas NO 3-N gradually accumulated in these soils.The conversion of insoluble organic N to low-molecular-weight (LMW) DON represented a main constraint to N supply,while conversions of LMW DON to NH + 4-N and NH + 4-N to NO 3-N did not.Free amino acids and peptides were rapidly mineralized in the soils by the microbial community and consequently did not accumulate in soil.Turnover rates of the additional amino acids and peptides were soil-dependent and generally followed the order of organic soil > transitional soil > conventional soil.The turnover of high-molecular-weight DON was very slow and represented the major DON loss.Further studies are needed to investigate the pathways and bottlenecks of organic N degradation.GE Ti-Da HUANG Dan-Feng P. 5Copper Adsorption on Olivine显示文摘Copper adsorption on olivine supplied by the A/S Olivine Production Plant at Aheim in western Norway was studied. The factors were evaluated which affect the uptake of copper. It is shown that the equilibrium pH of aqueous solution has the greatest influence on copper adsorption thanks to the competitive adsorption between proton and copper ions, and the adsorption of copper to olivine increases rapidly with pH increasing from 4 to 6. Moreover, initial copper concentration and olivine dose possess significant effect on copper adsorption, for the adsorption rate of copper increases with olivine dose increasing or initial copper concentration decreasing at the same pH. In addition, the ionic strength effect on the adsorption was also investigated, but it owns little effect on the adsorption process of copper due to the formation of inner sphere adsorption of copper on olivine.
