Navigated liver surgery:State of the art and future perspectives显示文摘Background:In recent years, the development of digital imaging technology has had a significant influence in liver surgery. The ability to obtain a 3-dimensional(3D)visualization of the liver anatomy has provided surgery with virtual reality of simulation 3D computer models,3D printing models and more recently holograms and augmented reality(when virtual reality knowledge is superimposed onto reality). In addition, the utilization of real-time fluorescent imaging techniques based on indocyanine green(ICG)uptake allows clinicians to precisely delineate the liver anatomy and/or tumors within the parenchyma, applying the knowledge obtained preoperatively through digital imaging. The combination of both has transformed the abstract thinking until now based on 2D imaging into a 3D preoperative conception(virtual reality),enhanced with real-time visualization of the fluorescent liver structures, effectively facilitating intraoperative navigated liver surgery(augmented reality).Data sources:A literature search was performed from inception until January 2021 in MEDLINE(Pub Med),Embase,Cochrane library and database for systematic reviews(CDSR),Google Scholar, and National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence(NICE)databases.Results:Fifty-one pertinent articles were retrieved and included. The different types of digital imaging technologies and the real-time navigated liver surgery were estimated and compared. Conclusions:ICG fluorescent imaging techniques can contribute essentially to the real-time definition of liver segments;as a result, precise hepatic resection can be guided by the presence of fluorescence.Furthermore,3D models can help essentially to further advancing of precision in hepatic surgery by permitting estimation of liver volume and functional liver remnant, delineation of resection lines along the liver segments and evaluation of tumor margins. In liver transplantation and especially in living donor liver transplantation(LDLT),3D printed models of the donor’s liver and models of the recipient’s hilar anatomy can contribute further to improving the results. In particular, pediatric LDLT abdominal cavity models can help to manage the largest challenge of this procedure, namely large-for-size syndrome. | Paschalis Gavriilidis Bjørn Edwin Egidijus Pelanis Ernest Hidalgo Nicola de’Angelis Riccardo Memeo Luca Aldrighetti Robert P Sutcliffe | 2022 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2022,21,3: | 6
Implicit large eddy simulation of unsteady cloud cavitation around a plane-convex hydrofoil显示文摘The present paper focuses on the erosive cavitation behavior around a plane convex hydrofoil. The Zwart-Gerber-Belamri cavitation model is implemented in a library form to be used with the OpenFOAM. The implicit large eddy simulation(ILES) is applied to analyze the three-dimensional unsteady cavitating flow around a plane convex hydrofoil. The numerical results in the cases under the hydrodynamic conditions, which were experimentally tested at the high speed cavitation tunnel of the école Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne(EPFL), clearly show the sheet cavitation development, the shedding and the collapse of vapor clouds. It is noted that the cavitation evolutions including the maximum vapor length, the detachment and the oscillation frequency, are captured fairly well. Furthermore, the pressure pulses due to the cavitation development as well as the complex vortex structures are reasonably well predicted. Consequently, it may be concluded that the present numerical method can be used to investigate the unsteady cavitation around hydrofoils with a satisfactory accuracy. | HIDALGO Victor 罗先武 ESCALER Xavier 季斌 AGUINAGA Alvaro | 2015 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2015,27,6: | 5
Neuroprotective effects of erythropoietin on neurodegenerative and ischemic brain diseases: the role of erythropoietin receptor显示文摘Erythropoietin(Epo) is a fundamental hormone in the regulation of hematopoiesis, and other secondary roles mediated by the binding of the hormone to its specific receptor(Epo R), which leads to an activation of key signaling pathways that induce an increase in cell differentiation, apoptosis control and neuroprotection. It has been suggested that their function depends on final conformation of glycosylations, related with affinity to the receptor and its half-life. The presence of Epo R has been reported in different tissues including central nervous system, where it has been demonstrated to exert a neuroprotective function against oxidative stress conditions, such as ischemic injury and neurodegenerative diseases. There is also evidence of an increase in Epo R expression in brain cell lysates of Alzheimer's patients with respect to healthy patients. These results are related with extensive in vitro experimental data of neuroprotection obtained from cell lines, primary cell cultures and hippocampal slices. Additionally, this data is correlated with in vivo experiments(water maze test) in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease where Epo treatment improved cognitive function. These studies support the idea that receptor activation induces a neuroprotective effect in neurodegenerative disorders including dementias, and especially Alzheimer's disease. Taken together, available evidence suggests that Epo appears to be a central element for Epo R activation and neuroprotective properties in the central nervous system. In this review, we will describe the mechanisms associated with neuroprotection and its relation with the activation of Epo R in order with identify new targets to develop pharmacological strategies. | Carolina Castillo Hernández Carlos Felipe Burgos Angela Hidalgo Gajardo Tiare Silva-Grecchi Javiera Gavilan Jorge Roberto Toledo Jorge Fuentealba | 2017 | Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,9: | 5

Environmental analysis of innovative sustainable composites with potential use in aviation sector -A life cycle assessment review显示文摘The forecast of growing air transport in the upcoming decades faces the challenge of an increasing environmental impact.Aviation industry is working on promising technologies to mitigate this environmental impact.Lightweight design is a strong lever to lower the fuel consumption and, consequently, with it the emissions of aviation.High performance composites are a key technology to help achieve these aims thanks to their favourable combination of mechanical properties and low weight in primary structures. However, mainly synthetic materials such as petrol based carbon fibres and epoxy resins are used nowadays to produce composite in aviation.Renewable materials like bio-based fibres and resin systems offer potential environmental advantages. However, they have not found their way into aviation, yet. The reasons are reduced mechanical properties and, especially for the use of natural fibres, their flammability.Improvements of these shortcomings are under investigation. Therefore the application of bio-based and recycled materials in certain areas of the aircraft could be possible in the future.Good examples for applications are furnishings and secondary structures. The motivation for this paper is to give an overview of potential environmental properties by using such eco-materials in aviation.Life cycle assessment(LCA) is a tool to calculate environmental impacts during all life stages of a product. The main focus is laid on the bio-fibres flax and ramie, recycled carbon fibres and bio-based thermoset resin systems.Furthermore an overview of environmental aspects of existing composite materials used in aviation is given.Generally,a lack of LCA results for the substitution of synthetic materials by bio-based/recycled composite materials in aviation applications has been identified. Therefore, available information from other transport areas, such as automotive, has been summarized.More detailed LCA data for eco-composite materials and technologies to improve their properties is important to understand potential environmental effects in aviation. | BACHMANN Jens HIDALGO Carme RICOUT Stephanie | 2017 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2017,60,9: | 4
| ZOUHEIR Morad TANJI Karim NAVIO Jose Antonio HIDALGO María Carmen JARAMILLO-PAEZ Cesar Augusto KHERBECHE Abdelhak | 2022 | Journal of Central South University2022,29,11: | 3
Approach to early-onset colorectal cancer:Clinicopathological, familial, molecular and immunohistochemical characteristics显示文摘AIM:To characterize clinicopathological and familial features of early-onset colorectal cancer(CRC) and compare features of tumors with and without microsatellite instability(MSI).METHODS:Forty-five patients with CRC aged 45 or younger were included in the study.Clinical information,a three-generation family history, and tumor samples were obtained.MSI status was analyzed and mismatch repair genes were examined in the MSI families.Tumors were included in a tissue microarray and an immunohistochemical study was carried out with a panel of selected antibodies.RESULTS:Early onset CRC is characterized by advanced stage at diagnosis, right colon location,low-grade of differentiation, mucin production, and presence of polyps.Hereditary forms represent at least 21% of cases.Eighty-one percent of patients who died during followup showed a lack of expression of cyclin E,which could be a marker of poor prognosis.β-catenin expression was normal in a high percentage of tumors.CONCLUSION:Early-onset CRC has an important familial component, with a high proportion of tumors showing microsatellite stable.Cyclin E might be a poor prognosis factor. | Jose Perea Edurne Alvaro Yolanda Rodríguez Cristina Gravalos Eva Sánchez-Tomé Barbara Rivera Francisco Colina Pablo Carbonell Rogelio González-Sarmiento Manuel Hidalgo Miguel Urioste | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,29: | 3
Exploiting novel molecular targets in gastrointestinal cancers显示文摘Novel molecular targets are being discovered as we learn more about the aberrant processes underlying various cancers. Efforts to translate this knowledge are starting to impact on the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancers. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway and angiogenesis have been targeted successfully in colorectal cancer with cetuximab, panitunumab and bevacizumab. Similarly, EGFR-targeting with erlotinib yielded significant survival benefit in pancreatic cancer when combined with gemcitabine. The multi-targeting approach with sorafenib has made it the first agent to achieve significant survival benefit in hepatocellular carcinoma. Efforts to exploit the dysregulated Akt/mTOR pathway in GI cancer therapy are ongoing. These molecular targets can be disrupted by various approaches, including the use of monoclonal antibody to intercept extracellular ligands and disrupt receptor-ligand binding, and small molecule inhibitors that interrupt the activation of intracellular kinases. | Wen W Ma Manuel Hidalgo | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,44: | 3

Interaction of silver nanoparticles with mediterranean agricultural soils: Lab-controlled adsorption and desorption studies显示文摘The production of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs) has increased tremendously during recent years due to their antibacterial and physicochemical properties. As a consequence, these particles are released inevitably into the environment, with soil being the main sink of disposal. Soil interactions have an effect on AgNP mobility, transport and bioavailability. To understand AgNP adsorption processes, lab-controlled kinetic studies were performed.Batch tests performed with five different Mediterranean agricultural soils showed that cation exchange capacity and electrical conductivity are the main parameters controlling the adsorption processes. The adsorption kinetics of different sized(40, 75, 100 and 200 nm)and coated(citrate, polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethyleneglycol(PEG)) AgNPs indicated that these nanoparticle properties have also an effect on the adsorption processes. To assess the mobility and bioavailability of AgNPs and to determine if their form is maintained during adsorption/desorption processes, loaded soils were submitted to leaching tests three weeks after batch adsorption studies. The DIN 38414-S4 extraction method indicated that AgNPs were strongly retained on soils, and single-particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry confirmed that silver particles maintained their nanoform, except for 100 nm PEG-AgNPs and 40 nm citrate-coated AgNPs. The DTPA(diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) leaching test was more effective in extracting silver, but there was no presence of AgNPs in almost all of these leachates. | Laura Torrent Eva Margui Ignasi Queralt Manuela Hidalgo Monica Iglesias | 2019 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,9: | 2

Kupffer cell restoration after partial hepatectomy is mainly driven by local cell proliferation in IL-6-dependent autocrine and paracrine manners显示文摘Kupffer cells(KCs),which are liver-resident macrophages, originate from the fetal yolk sac and represent one of the largest macrophage populations in the body. However, the current data on the origin of the cells that restore macrophages during liver injury and regeneration remain controversial. Here,we address the question of whether liver macrophage restoration results from circulating monocyte infiltration or local KC proliferation in regenerating livers after partial hepatectomy(PHx)and uncover the underlying mechanisms.By using several strains of genetically modified mice and performing immunohistochemical analyses,we demonstrated that local KC proliferation mainly contributed to the restoration of liver macrophages after PHx.Peak KC proliferation was impaired in Il6-knockout(KO)mice and restored after the administration of IL-6 protein, whereas KC proliferation was not affected in Il4-KO or Csf2-KO mice. The source of IL-6 was identified using hepatocyte-and myeloid-specific Il6-KO mice and the results revealed that both hepatocytes and myeloid cells contribute to IL-6 production after PHx.Moreover, peak KC proliferation was also impaired in myeloid-specific Il6 receptor-KO mice after PHx,suggesting that IL-6 signaling directly promotes KC proliferation.Studies using several inhibitors to block the IL-6 signaling pathway revealed that sirtuin 1(SIRT1)contributed to IL-6-mediated KC proliferation in vitro.Genetic deletion of the Sirt1 gene in myeloid cells, including KCs,impaired KC proliferation after PHx.In conclusion, our data suggest that KC repopulation after PHx is mainly driven by local KC proliferation, which is dependent on IL-6 and SIRT1 activation in KCs. | Yeni Ait Ahmed Yaojie Fu Robim M.Rodrigues Yong He Yukun Guan Adrien Guillot Ruixue Ren Dechun Feng Juan Hidalgo Cynthia Ju Fouad Lafdil Bin Gao | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,9: | 2
Numerical study of unsteady cavitation on 2D NACA0015 hydrofoil using free/open source software显示文摘The free/open source software as OpenFOAM,Salome meshing and python language under Debian Linux system are evaluated to model unsteady cavitating turbulent flow around a NACA0015 hydrofoil. Based on the cavitation model proposed by Kunz and large eddy simulation(LES) method, we denote the benefits of free software and open source tools as an alternative to proprietary software of computational fluid mechanics, and provided a modified cavitation model to improve numerical accuracy. The simulation results of typical break-off cycle for cavitation shedding are compared to available experimental data, and validated using image processing to find percentage of similarities. The sheet cavity frequency of 7.752 Hz was obtained based on cavitation evolution and pressure fluctuations. The study gives relevant information for CFD software development in the future. | Victor Hidalgo Xianwu Luo Bin Ji Alvaro Aguinaga | 2014 | Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,26: | 2
