| 1 | Characterization of personal exposure concentration of fine particles for adults and children exposed to high ambient concentrations in Beijing, China显示文摘In China, the health risk from overexposure to particles is becoming an important public health concern. To investigate daily exposure characteristics to PM 2.5 with high ambient concentration in urban area, a personal exposure study was conducted for school children, and office workers in Beijing, China. For all participants (N = 114), the mean personal 24-hr exposure concentration was 102.5, 14.7, 0.093, 0.528, 0.934, 0.174 and 0.703 μg/m 3 for PM 2.5 , black carbon, Mn, Al, Ca, Pb, and Fe. Children's exposure concentrations of PM 2.5 were 4-5 times higher than those in related studies. The ambient concentration of PM 2.5 (128.5 μg/m 3 ) was significantly higher than the personal exposure concentration (P < 0.05), and exceed the reference concentration (25 μg/m 3 ) of WHO air quality guideline. Good correlation relationships and significant differences were identified between ambient concentration and personal exposure concentration. The relationships indicate that the ambient concentration is the main factor influencing personal exposure concentration, but is not a good indicator of personal exposure concentration. | 2 | Evaluation of cracking potential for concrete arch dam based on simulation feedback analysis显示文摘It is still very difficult for researchers and engineers to implement the simulation analysis including a complete process and a full model with the complicated arch dam and the foundation, and to evaluate the cracking potential in the construction and service periods. To take Xiaowan project of China for an example, a practical system of simulation feedback analysis, a specific cracking criterion, and a resolution for the conflicting requirements of temperature and stress/strain simulation are presented, which are put into a successful practice. The simulation results of temperature, stress, and cracking are identical well with the monitor data. | 3 | Responses of plant community to the linkages in plant-soil C:N:P stoichiometry during secondary succession of abandoned farmlands,China显示文摘Succession is one of the central themes of ecology;however,the relationship between aboveground plant communities and underground soils during secondary succession remains unclear.In this study,we investigated the composition of plant community,plant-soil C:N:P stoichiometry and their relationships during secondary succession after the abandonment of farmlands for 0,10,20,30,40 and 50 a in China,2016.Results showed that the composition of plant communities was most diverse in the farmlands after secondary succession for 20 and 50 a.Soil organic carbon and total nitrogen contents slightly decreased after secondary succession for 30 a,but both were significantly higher than those of control farmland(31.21%-139.10%and 24.24%-121.21%,respectively).Moreover,C:N ratios of soil and microbe greatly contributed to the changes in plant community composition during secondary succession of abandoned farmlands,explaining 35.70%of the total variation.Particularly,soil C:N ratio was significantly and positively related with the Shannon-Wiener index.This study provides the evidence of synchronous evolution between plant community and soil during secondary succession and C:N ratio is an important linkage between them. | LIU Weichao FU Shuyue YAN Shengji REN Chengjie WU Shaojun DENG Jian LI Boyong HAN Xinhui YANG Gaihe | 2020 | Journal of Arid Land2020,12,2: | 5 |
| 4 | Black carp growth hormone gene transgenic allotetraploid hybrids of Carassius auratus red var. (♀)×Cyprinus carpio (♂)显示文摘Ecological safety is a major consideration in the commercialization of transgenic fish. Development of sterile transgenic triploid fish through hybridization of transgenic tetraploid fish and transgenic diploid fish is a feasible way to solve this problem. The 'all-fish' transgene, pbcAbcGHc, containing the black carp β-actin gene promoter and the open reading frame (ORF) of the black carp growth hormone (GH) gene was constructed and introduced into fertilized eggs of allotetraploid fish through microinjection. Contrast cultivation results showed that the growth rate of 150 day-old P 0 black carp GH gene transgenic allotetraploid fish was much higher than that of controls. Sixty 150 day-old transgenic allotetraploid fish were assayed by PCR for transgene integration and 90% of fish were positive for the transgene. The transgene was detected in 13 of 20 sperm samples from male transgenic allotetraploid fish. RT-PCR detected transcription of the exogenous black carp GH gene in the muscle, liver, kidney and ovaries of the largest transgenic allotetraploid fish. | 5 | The E3 Ubiquitin Ligase gp78 Protects against ER Stress in Zebrafish Liver显示文摘Enhanced endoplasmic reticulum(ER)-associated protein degradation(ERAD) activity by the unfolded protein response(UPR) represents one of the mechanisms for restoring ER homeostasis.In vitro evidence indicates that the mammalian gp78 protein is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that facilitates ERAD by polyubiquitinating and targeting proteins for proteasomal degradation under both physiologic and stress conditions.However,the in vivo function of gp78 in maintaining ER protein homeostasis remains untested.Here we show that like its mammalian counterpart,the zebrafish gp78 is also an E3 ubiquitin ligase as revealed by in vitro ubiquitination assays.Expression analysis uncovered that gp78 is highly expressed in several organs,including liver and brain,of both larval and adult fish.Treatment of larvae or adult fish with tunicamycin induces ER stress and upregulates the expression of several key components of the gp78 ERAD complex in the liver.Moreover,liver-specific overexpression of the dominant-negative form of gp78(gp78-R2M) renders liver more sensitive to tunicamycin-induced ER stress and enhances the expression of sterol response element binding protein(Srebp)-target genes,which was largely suppressed in fish overexpressing wild-type gp78.Together,these data indicate that gp78 plays a critical role in protecting against ER stress in liver. | Zhiliang Chen Petek Ballar Yu Fu Jia Luo Shaojun Du Shengyun Fang | 2014 | Journal of Genetics and Genomics2014,41,7: | 3 |
| 6 | Evaluating the emission status of light-duty gasoline vehicles and motorcycles in Macao with real-world remote sensing measurement显示文摘Roadside remote sensing measurement was used to explore the real-world emission status of light duty gasoline vehicles(LDGVs) and motorcycles in Macao. Both fuel-based and distance-based emission factors were derived using the mass balance method. The emission concentration profile of LDGVs illustrated the benefits of tightening emission standards at the source country or region of import. The distance-based emission factors for CO, HC and NOx of LDGVs registered before 2000 were 8.00, 1.04 and 1.36 g/km,respectively. The distance-based emission factors for CO, HC and NOx of LDGVs registered in or after 2000 were 1.16, 0.15 and 0.18 g/km, respectively. The fuel-based CO emission factors of light duty motorcycles(LDMCs) and heavy duty motorcycles(HDMCs) registered before 2000 were about 10 times higher than those of LDGVs of the same age group. As the emissions of LDGVs decreased more quickly after 2000, the gap widens for newer vehicles.The distance-based HC emission factors of LDMCs and HDMCs registered before 2000 were4.81 and 2.91 g/km, respectively. The distance-based HC emission factors of LDMCs and HDMCs registered in or after 2000 were 3.52 and 0.93 g/km, respectively. The poor emission performance of motorcycles and their larger share in the traffic flow will cause them to be the major contributor to traffic CO and HC emissions. | 14 | Fabrication of the beam splitters for soft X-ray laser application显示文摘The soft X-ray interferometry is completed by the Mach-Zehnder interferometer using a soft X-ray laser, and it is also an important method to measure the electron densities of a laser-produced plasma near the critical surface. It is apparently demonstrated in this paper that the incident angle of each optical element in the soft X-ray Mach- Zehnder interferometer should be near normal incidence based on the polarized characteristics of the soft X-ray mul-tilayers, and the product of reflectivity and transmission of the beam splitter should be taken as a standard of design according to the structure of the soft X-ray Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The beam splitters used in the soft X-ray interferometry at 13.9 nm are fabricated using the ion beam sputtering. | 16 | Segmented Au/PtCo heterojunction nanowires for efficient formic acid oxidation catalysis显示文摘Exploring a new strategy for the removal of adsorbed CO (CO^(*)) on a Pt surface at a low potential is the key to achieving enhanced catalysis for the formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR);however, the development of such a strategy remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report a class of Au/PtCo heterojunction nanowires (HNWs) as efficient electrocatalysts for accelerating the FAOR. This heterojunction structure and the induced Co alloying effects can facilitate formic acid adsorption/activation on Pt with high CO tolerance, generating the FAOR pathway from dehydration to dehydrogenation. The optimized Au_(23)/Pt_(63)Co_(14) HNWs showed the highest specific and mass activities of 11.7 mA cm^(−2)Pt and 6.42 A mg^(−1)Pt reported to date, respectively, which are considerably higher than those of commercial Pt/C. | 18 | Overexpression of PvWOX3a in switchgrass promotes stem development and increases plant height显示文摘Switchgrass(Panicum virgatum L.)is an important perennial,noninvasive,tall ornamental grass that adds color and texture to gardens and landscapes.Moreover,switchgrass has been considered a forage and bioenergy crop because of its vigorous growth,low-input requirements,and broad geography.Here,we identified PvWOX3a from switchgrass,which encodes a WUSCHEL-related homeobox transcription factor.Transgenic overexpression of PvWOX3a in switchgrass increased stem length,internode diameter,and leaf blade length and width,all of which contributed to a 95%average increase in dry weight biomass compared with control plants.Yeast one-hybrid and transient dual-luciferase assays showed that PvWOX3a can repress the expression of gibberellin 2-oxidase and cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase through apparently direct interaction with their promoter sequences.These results suggested that overexpression of PvWOX3a could increase gibberellin and cytokinin levels in transgenic switchgrass plants,which promotes cell division,elongation,and vascular bundle development.We also overexpressed PvWOX3a in a transgenic miR156-overexpressing switchgrass line that characteristically exhibited more tillers,thinner internodes,and narrower leaf blades.Double transgenic switchgrass plants displayed significant increases in internode length and diameter,leaf blade width,and plant height but retained a tiller number comparable to that of plants expressing miR156 alone.Ultimately,the double transgenic switchgrass plants produced 174%more dry-weight biomass and 162%more solubilized sugars on average than control plants.These findings indicated that PvWOX3a is a viable potential genetic target for engineering improved shoot architecture and biomass yield of horticulture,fodder,and biofuel crops. | Ruijuan Yang Zhenying Wu Chen Bai Zhichao Sun Mengqi Wang Yuzhu Huo Hailing Zhang Yamei Wang Huapeng Zhou Shaojun Dai Wenwen Liu Chunxiang Fu | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 1 |
