1Clinical and biochemical indexes from 2019-nCoV infected patients linked to viral loads and lung injury显示文摘The outbreak of the 2019-nCoV infection began in December 2019 in Wuhan,Hubei province,and rapidly spread to many provinces in China as well as other countries.Here we report the epidemiological,clinical,laboratory,and radiological characteristics,as well as potential biomarkers for predicting disease severity in 2019-nCoV-infected patients in Shenzhen,China.All 12 cases of the 2019-nCoV-infected patients developed pneumonia and half of them developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).The most common laboratory abnormalities were hypoalbuminemia,lymphopenia,decreased percentage of lymphocytes (LYM) and neutrophils (NEU),elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH),and decreased CD8 count.The viral load of 2019-nCoV detected from patient respiratory tracts was positively linked to lung disease severity.ALB,LYM,LYM (%),LDH,NEU (%),and CRP were highly correlated to the acute lung injury.Age,viral load,lung injury score,and blood biochemistry indexes,albumin (ALB),CRP,LDH,LYM (%),LYM,and NEU (%),may be predictors of disease severity.Moreover,the Angiotensin Ⅱlevel in the plasma sample from 2019-nCoV infected patients was markedly elevated and linearly associated to viral load and lung injury.Our results suggest a number of potential diagnosis biomarkers and angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drugs for potential repurposing treatment of 2019-nCoV infection.Yingxia Liu Yang Yang Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Jianming Li Cheng Feng Zheng Zhang Lifei Wang Ling Peng Li Chen Yuhao Qin Dandan Zhao Shuguang Tan Lu Yin Jun Xu Congzhao Zhou Chengyu Jiang Lei Liu 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,3:157
2Effects of Duhuojisheng Tang and combined therapies on prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc:a systematic review of randomized control trails显示文摘OBJECTIVE:A systematic review of the literature was conducted to evaluate the curative effect and safety of Duhuojisheng Tang on prolapse of the lumbar intervertebral disc.METHODS:The databases of PubMed,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Chinese Scientific Journals Database(VIP),Chinese Biomedical Literature Database(CBM) and Chinese Medical Citation Index(CMCI) were searched up to January 30,2012.Randomized controlled trials were selected to compare Duhuojisheng Tang with one or more of the following treatments:traction,acupuncture,massage,cupping and Western medical treatment.The quality-evaluating standard and the software RevMan 5.1 in Cochrane coordinative net were used to analyze the data.The effective indexes of the results were clinical curative rate,effectiveness of alleviating clinical symptoms and adverse reaction.RESULTS:Thirty-one randomized controlled trials of low quality,involving 3915 patients were systematically evaluated.Statistical analyses showed that good curative effect was achieved in both the group using Duhuojisheng Tang alone and with combined therapies.CONCLUSION:Using Duhuojisheng Tang alone or combined with other therapies can effectively improve pain,leg-raising height and other clinical symptoms of patients with prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.Due to low methodological quality of the articles,no exact recommendations can be made.Yanxu Ma Minghua Huang Jingyan Cui Kai Meng Yuhao Zhao 2013Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2013,33,2:27
3Herbal decoctosome is a novel form of medicine显示文摘Traditionally, herbal medicine is consumed by drinking decoctions produced by boiling herbs with water. The functional components of the decoction are heat stable. Small RNAs(sRNAs) were reported as a new class of functional components in decoctions. However, the mechanisms by which sRNAs survive heat treatment of the decoction and enter cells are unclear.Previous studies showed that plant-derived exosome-like nanoparticles(ELNs), which we call botanosomes, could deliver therapeutic reagents in vivo. Here, we report that heat-stable decoctosomes(ELNs) from decoctions have more therapeutic effects than the decoctions in vitro and demonstrate therapeutic efficacy in vivo. Furthermore, sRNAs, such as HJT-sRNA-m7 and PGY-sRNA-6, in the decoctosome exhibit potent anti-fibrosis and anti-inflammatory effects, respectively. Decoctosome is comprised of lipids, chemical compounds, proteins, and s RNAs. A medical decoctosome mimic is called bencaosome. A single lipid sphinganine(d22:0) identified in the decoctosome was mixed and heated with the synthesized sRNAs to form the simplest bencaosome. This simple bencaosome structure was identified by critical micelle concentration(cmc) assay that sRNAs coassembled with sphinganine(d22:0) to form the lipid layers of vesicles. The heating process facilitates co-assembly of sRNAs and sphinganine(d22:0) until a steady state is reached. The artificially produced sphinganine-HJT-sRNA-m7 and sphinganinePGY-sRNA-6 bencaosomes could ameliorate bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis and poly(I:C)-induced lung inflammation, respectively, following oral administration in mice. 4Large-scale analysis of small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese herbs in human tissues显示文摘Plant-derived microRNAs have recently been reported to function in human blood and tissues. Controversy was immediately raised due to possible contamination and the lack of large sample sizes. Here, we report thousands of unique small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) herbs found in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues using a large-scale analysis.We extracted small RNAs from decoctions of 10 TCM plants(Ban Zhi Lian, Chai Hu, Chuan Xin Lian, Di Ding Zi Jin, Huang Qin, Jin Yin Hua, Lian Qiao, Pu Gong Ying, Xia Ku Cao, and Yu Xing Cao) and obtained millions of RNA sequences from each herb. We also obtained RNA-Seq data from the blood cells of humans who consumed herbal decoctions and from the lung tissues of mice administered RNAs from herbal decoctions via oral gavage. We identified thousands of unique small RNA sequences in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues. Some of these identified small RNAs from Chuan Xin Lian and Hong Jing Tian could be mapped to the genomes of the herbs, confirming their TCM plant origin. 5Elevated plasma levels of selective cytokines in COVID-19 patients reflect viral load and lung injury显示文摘A recent outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan,China was found to be caused by a 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV or SARS-CoV-2 or HCoV-19).We previously reported the clinical features of 12 patients with2019-n Co V infections in Shenzhen,China.To further understand the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and find better ways to monitor and treat the disease caused by 2019-n Co V,we measured the levels of 48 cytokines in the blood plasma of those 12 COVID-19 patients.Thirty-eight out of the 48 measured cytokines in the plasma of 2019-n Co V-infected patients were significantly elevated compared to healthy individuals.Seventeen cytokines were linked to 2019-nCoV loads.Fifteen cytokines,namely M-CSF,IL-10,IFN-α2,IL-17,IL-4,IP-10,IL-7,IL-1 ra,G-CSF,IL-12,IFN-γ,IL-1α,IL-2,HGF and PDGF-BB,were strongly associated with the lung-injury Murray score and could be used to predict the disease severity of2019-n Co V infections by calculating the area under the curve of the receiver-operating characteristics.Our results suggest that 2019-nCoV infections trigger extensive changes in a wide array of cytokines,some of which could be potential biomarkers of disease severity of 2019-n Co V infections.These findings will likely improve our understanding of the immunopathologic mechanisms of this emerging disease.Our results also suggest that modulators of cytokine responses may play a therapeutic role in combating the disease once the functions of these elevated cytokines have been characterized.Yingxia Liu Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Yang Yang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zheng Zhang Yuhao Qin Xiaoyun Li Dandan Zhao Shunwang Li Shuguang Tan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Chenguang Shen Jianming Li Ling Peng Weibo Wu Mengli Cao Li Xing Zhixiang Xu Li Chen Congzhao Zhou William J Liu Lei Liu Chengyu Jiang 2020National Science Review2020,7,6:6

9Mapping the elastic properties of two-dimensional MoS_(2) via bimodal atomic force microscopy and finite element simulation显示文摘Elasticity is a fundamental mechanical property of two-dimensional(2D)materials,and is critical for their application as well as for strain engineering.However,accurate measurement of the elastic modulus of 2D materials remains a challenge,and the conventional suspension method suffers from a number of drawbacks.In this work,we demonstrate a method to map the in-plane Young’s modulus of mono-and bi-layer MoS_(2) on a substrate with high spatial resolution.Bimodal atomic force microscopy is used to accurately map the effective spring constant between the microscope tip and sample,and a finite element method is developed to quantitatively account for the effect of substrate stiffness on deformation.Using these methods,the in-plane Young’s modulus of monolayer MoS_(2) can be decoupled from the substrate and determined as 265±13 GPa,broadly consistent with previous reports though with substantially smaller uncertainty.It is also found that the elasticity of mono-and bi-layer MoS_(2) cannot be differentiated,which is confirmed by the first principles calculations.This method provides a convenient,robust and accurate means to map the in-plane Young’s modulus of 2D materials on a substrate.Yuhao Li Chuanbin Yu Yingye Gan Peng Jiang Junxi Yu Yun Ou Dai-Feng Zou Cheng Huang Jiahong Wang Tingting Jia Qian Luo Xue-Feng Yu Huijuan Zhao Cun-Fa Gao Jiangyu Li 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:3

11A comprehensive analysis of the Bencao(herbal)small RNA Atlas reveals novel RNA therapeutics for treating human diseases显示文摘Cross-kingdom herbal mi RNA was first reported in 2012.Using a modified herbal extraction protocol,we obtained 73,677,287sequences by RNA-seq from 245 traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),of which 20,758,257 were unique sequences.We constructed a Bencao(herbal)small RNA(s RNA)Atlas(http://gffzz4a3adbfa122d4a47hq6bfqfknpp0u6cfk.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn),annotated the sequences by sequence-based clustering,and created a nomenclature system for Bencao s RNAs.The profiles of 21,757 mi RNAs in the Atlas were highly consistent with those of plant mi RNAs in mi RBase.Using software tools,our results demonstrated that all human genes might be regulated by s RNAs from the Bencao s RNA Atlas,part of the predicted human target genes were experimentally validated,suggesting that Bencao s RNAs might be one of the main bioactive components of herbal medicines.We established roadmaps for oligonucleotide drugs development and optimization of TCM prescriptions.Moreover,the decoctosome,a lipo-nano particle consisting of 0.5%–2.5%of the decoction,demonstrated potent medical effects.We propose a Bencao(herbal)Index,including small-molecule compounds(SM),protein peptides(P),nucleic acid(N),non-nucleic and non-proteinogenic large-molecule compounds(LM)and elements from Mendeleev's periodic table(E),to quantitatively measure the medical effects of botanic medicine.The Bencao s RNA Atlas is a resource for developing gene-targeting oligonucleotide drugs and optimizing botanical medicine,and may provide potential remedies for the theory and practice of one medicine.Yinghao Cao Yexuan Lin Na Sun Xinyi Du Yixin Dong Song Mei Xingyu Deng Xiaobei Li Shaoting Guo Kegong Tang Jiaqi Liu Xiangyu Qiao Dandan Zhao Yuhao Qin Cong Zhang Tianyi Xin Xiaohu Shi Congzhao Zhou Tao Dong De-an Guo Benedikt MKessler Dong Xu Jingyuan Song Fengming Huang Xiaoyue Wang Chengyu Jiang 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,10:2

13Band structure engineering through van der Waals heterostructing superlattices of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides显示文摘The indirect-to-direct band-gap transition in transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDCs)from bulk to monolayer,accompanying with other unique properties of two-dimensional materials,has endowed them great potential in optoelectronic devices.The easy transferability and feasible epitaxial growth pave a promising way to further tune the optical properties by constructing van der Waals heterostructures.Here,we performed a systematic high-throughput first-principles study of electronic structure and optical properties of the layerby-layer stacking TMDCs heterostructing superlattices,with the configuration space of[(MX2)n(M0X02)10−n](M/M0=Cr,Mo,W;X/X0=S,Se,Te;n=0-10).Our calculations involving long-range dispersive interaction show that the indirect-to-direct band-gap transition or even semiconductor-to-metal transition can be realized by changing component compositions of superlattices.Further analysis indicates that the indirect-to-direct band-gap transition can be ascribed to the in-plane strain induced by lattice mismatch.The semiconductor-to-metal transition may be attributed to the band offset among different components that is modified by the in-plane strain.The superlattices with direct band-gap show quite weak band-gap optical transition because of the spacial separation of the electronic states involved.In general,the layers stacking-order of superlattices results in a small up to 0.2 eV band gap fluctuation because of the built-in potential.Our results provide useful guidance for engineering band structure and optical properties in TMDCs heterostructing superlattices.Xin-Gang Zhao Zhiming Shi Xinjiang Wang Hongshuai Zou Yuhao Fu Lijun Zhang 2021InfoMat2021,3,2:2
14The relationships among structure variables of larch forests in China显示文摘Background:Larch(Larix Mill.)forests are widely distributed in the upper parts of mountainous areas in China,playing vital roles in constructing mountain landscapes and maintaining mountain environments.Despite their importance,our knowledges on the large-scale patterns of structure characteristics and the relationships between different structure variables are unclear.In this paper,we investigated 155 plots from 11 natural larch forest types across the country to explore the biogeographic patterns of the structure characteristics and the allometric relationships between different structure variables for Chinese larch forests.Results:The structure characteristics were significantly different among larch forest types.For different larch forest types,the power function fits the relationships between tree height and diameter at breast height(DBH),average DBH and stem density,and taper and stem density well,but with different exponents among larch forest types.The power exponents of the allometric relationships between tree height and DBH for different larch forest types varied from 0.61 to 0.93(mean=0.86)by standard major axis regression(SMA),and from 0.51 to 0.78(mean=0.56)by ordinary least square regression(OLS).The 50%,75%and 95%quantile regression(QR)and OLS indicated that the average DBH and taper of the L.gmelinii forests,L.gmelinii var.principis-rupprechtii forests,and L.sibirica forests were significantly correlated with stem density.Conclusions:The relationship between tree height and DBH showed a power function relationship for all larch forest types in China,but with different exponents.Overall,stem density was negatively correlated with average DBH and taper.The Sect.Larix forests exhibited stand density effect.Our findings provide an important basis for recognizing the biogeographic patterns of structure factors and for the management of larch forests in China.Wenjing Fang Qing Zhao Qiong Cai Anwar Eziz Guoping Chen Yuhao Feng Heng Zhang Jiangling Zhu Chengjun Ji Zhiyao Tang Jingyun Fang 2020Forest Ecosystems2020,7,4:2
15Spontaneous low-temperature crystallization of α-FAPbI3 for highly efficient perovskite solar cells显示文摘Formamidinium lead triiodide(HC(NH2)2PbI3 or FAPbI3)is a promising light absorber for high-efficiency perovskite solar cells because of its superior light absorption range and thermal stability to CH3NH3PbI3(MAPbI3).Unfortunately,it is difficult to fabricate high-quality FAPbI3 thin films to surpass the MAPbI3-based cells due to easily forming unwanted but more stable yellow d-phase and thus requiring high annealing-temperature for wanted photovoltaic-active black a-phase.Herein,we reported a novel low-temperature fabrication of highly crystallized a-FAPbI3 film exhibiting uniaxial-oriented nature with large grain sizes up to 2 lm.First-principles energetic calculations predicted that this novel deposition should be ascribed to the formation of a high-energy metastable two-dimensional(2D)intermediate of MAFAPbI3 Cl followed by a spontaneous conversion to a-FAPbI3.The ions exchange reaction during this MAFAPbI3 Cl-FAPbI3 conversion account for the perovskite film uniaxial-oriented grown along the(111)direction.This large-grain and uniaxial-oriented grown a-FAPbI3 based solar cells exhibited an efficiency up to 20.4%accompanying with low density-voltage(J-V)hysteresis and high stability.Taiyang Zhang Qiaoling Xu Feng Xu Yuhao Fu Yong Wang Yanfa Yan Lijun Zhang Yixin Zhao 2019Science Bulletin2019,64,21:2
16Crimped nanofiber scaffold mimicking tendon-to-bone interface for fatty-infiltrated massive rotator cuff repair显示文摘Electrospun fibers,with proven ability to promote tissue regeneration,are widely being explored for rotator cuff repairing.However,without post treatment,the microstructure of the electrospun scaffold is vastly different from that of natural extracellular matrix(ECM).Moreover,during mechanical loading,the nanofibers slip that hampers the proliferation and differentiation of migrating stem cells.Here,electrospun nanofiber scaffolds,with crimped nanofibers and welded joints to biomimic the intricate natural microstructure of tendon-to-bone insertion,were prepared using poly(ester-urethane)urea and gelatin via electrospinning and double crosslinking by a multi-bonding network densification strategy.The crimped nanofiber scaffold(CNS)features bionic tensile stress and induces chondrogenic differentiation,laying credible basis for in vivo experimentation.After repairing a rabbit massive rotator cuff tear using a CNS for 3 months,the continuous translational tendon-to-bone interface was fully regenerated,and fatty infiltration was simultaneously inhibited.Instead of micro-CT,μCT was employed to visualize the integrity and intricateness of the three-dimensional microstructure of the CNS-induced-healed tendon-to-bone interface at an ultra-high resolution of less than 1μm.This study sheds light on the correlation between nanofiber post treatment and massive rotator cuff repair and provides a general strategy for crimped nanofiber preparation and tendon-to-bone interface imaging characterization.Liren Wang Tonghe Zhu Yuhao Kang Jianguang Zhang Juan Du Haihan Gao Sihao Chen Jia Jiang Jinzhong Zhao 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,10:2
17Numerical simulation of low-concentration CO_(2) adsorption on fixed bed using finite element analysis显示文摘Accurately predicting distributions of concentration and temperature field in fixed-bed column is essential for designing adsorption processes.In this study,a two-dimensional(2D),axisymmetric,nonisothermal,dynamic adsorption model was established by coupling equations of mass,momentum and energy balance,and solved by finite element analysis.The simulation breakthrough curves fit well with the low-concentration CO_(2) adsorption experimental data,indicating the reliability of the established model.The distributions of concentration and temperature field in the column for CO_(2) adsorption and separation from CO_(2)/N_(2) were obtained.The sensitivity analysis of the adsorption conditions shows that the operation parameters such as feed flow rate,feed concentration,pellet size,and column height-to-diameter ratio produce a significant effect on the dynamic adsorption performance.The multi-physics coupled 2D axisymmetric model could provide a theoretical foundation and guidance for designing CO_(2) fixed-bed adsorption and separation processes,which could be extended to other mixed gases as well.Yonghou Xiao Shuang Qiu Qidong Zhao Yuhao Zhu Chirag BGodiya Gaohong He 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,8:2

20Orally administered BZL-s RNA-20 oligonucleotide targeting TLR4 effectively ameliorates acute lung injury in mice显示文摘The global COVID-19 pandemic emerged at the end of December 2019.Acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)and acute lung injury(ALI)are common lethal outcomes of bacterial lipopolysaccharide(LPS),avian influenza virus,and SARS-Co V-2.Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)is a key target in the pathological pathway of ARDS and ALI.Previous studies have reported that herbal small RNAs(s RNAs)are a functional medical component.BZL-s RNA-20(Accession number:B59471456;Family ID:F2201.Q001979.B11)is a potent inhibitor of Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)and pro-inflammatory cytokines.Furthermore,BZLs RNA-20 reduces intracellular levels of cytokines induced by lipoteichoic acid(LTA)and polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid(poly(I:C)).We found that BZL-s RNA-20 rescued the viability of cells infected with avian influenza H5N1,SARS-Co V-2,and several of its variants of concern(VOCs).Acute lung injury induced by LPS and SARS-Co V-2 in mice was significantly ameliorated by the oral medical decoctosome mimic(bencaosome;sphinganine(d22:0)+BZL-s RNA-20).Our findings suggest that BZLs RNA-20 could be a pan-anti-ARDS/ALI drug.Dandan Zhao Yuhao Qin Jiaqi Liu Kegong Tang Shuaiyao Lu Zirui Liu Yexuan Lin Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Jiahui Chang Chang Li Mingyao Tian Yiming Ma Xiaoyun Li Congzhao Zhou Xiao Li Xiaozhong Peng Ningyi Jin Chengyu Jiang 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,7:1
