4Enhanced memory capacity of a neuromorphic reservoir computing system based on a VCSEL with double optical feedbacks显示文摘In this paper,a neuromorphic reservoir computing(RC)system with enhanced memory capacity(MC)based on a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser(VCSEL)subject to double optical feedbacks(DOF)is proposed and investigated numerically.The aim of this study is to explore the MC of the proposed system.For the purpose of comparison,the MC of the VCSEL-based RC system with single optical feedback(SOF)is also taken into account.It is found that,compared with the VCSEL-based RC system subject to SOF,enhanced MC can be obtained for the VCSEL-based RC system with DOF.Besides,the effects of feedback strength,injected strength,frequency detuning as well as injection current on the MC of the VCSEL-based RC system with DOF are considered.Moreover,the influence of feedback delays is also carefully examined.Thus,such proposed VCSEL-based RC system with DOF provides a prospect for the further development of the neuromorphic photonic system based on RC.Xingxing GUO Shuiying XIANG Yahui ZHANG Aijun WEN Yue HAO 2020Science China(Information Sciences)2020,63,6:5
5Identification of stably expressed QTL for resistance to black shank disease in tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum L.) line Beinhart 1000-1显示文摘Cigar line Beinhart 1000-1 has effective durable resistance to black shank(BS) and is considered one of the most resistant sources in tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum L.). To investigate the inheritance and identification of stable quantitative trait loci(QTL) for BS response, F2,BC1 F2 individuals and BC1 F2:3 lines were produced from a cross between Beinhart 1000-1 and Xiaohuangjin 1025. Two major quantitative trait loci(M-QTL) named qBS7 and qBS17 were repeatedly detected under different conditions. QTL qBS7 was mapped to the region between PT30174 and PT60621 and explained 17.40%–25.60% of the phenotypic variance under different conditions. The other QTL qBS17 in interval PT61564–PT61538 of linkage group 17 was detected in a BC1 F2 population in the field and in BC1 F2:3 in both the field and at the seedling stage, explaining 6.90% to 11.60% of the phenotypic variance. 6PINK1 kinase dysfunction triggers neurodegeneration in the primate brain without impacting mitochondrial homeostasis显示文摘In vitro studies have established the prevalent theory that the mitochondrial kinase PINK1 protects neurodegeneration by removing damaged mitochondria in Parkinson's disease(PD).However,difficulty in detecting endogenous PINK1 protein in rodent brains and cell lines has prevented the rigorous investigation of the in vivo role of PINK1.Here we report that PINK1 kinase form is selectively expressed in the human and monkey brains.CRISPR/Cas9-mediated deficiency of PINK1 causes similar neurodegeneration in the brains of fetal and adult monkeys as well as cultured monkey neurons without affecting mitochondrial protein expression and morphology.Importantly,PINK1 mutations in the primate brain and human cells reduce protein phosphorylation that is important for neuronal function and survival.Our findings suggest that PINK1 kinase activity rather than its mitochondrial function is essential for the neuronal survival in the primate brains and that its kinase dysfunction could be involved in the pathogenesis of PD.Weili Yang Xiangyu Guo Zhuchi Tu Xiusheng Chen Rui Han Yanting Liu Sen Yan Qi Wang Zhifu Wang Xianxian Zhao Yunpeng Zhang Xin Xiong Huiming Yang Peng Yin Huida Wan Xingxing Chen Jifeng Guo Xiao-Xin Yan Lujian Liao Shihua Li Xiao-Jiang Li 2022Protein & Cell2022,13,1:3
7Impacts of exercise intervention on various diseases in rats显示文摘Background:Exercise is considered as an important intervention for treatment and prevention of several diseases,such as osteoarthritis,obesity,hypertension,and Alzheimer's disease.This review summarizes decadal exercise intervention studies with various rat models across 6 major systems to provide a better understanding of the mechanisms behind the effects that exercise brought.Methods:PubMed was utilized as the data source.To collect research articles,we used the following terms to create the search:(exercise[Title]OR physical activity[Title]OR training[Title])AND(rats[Title/Abstract]OR rat[Title/Abstract]OR rattus[Title/Abstract]).To best cover targeted studies,publication dates were limited to'within 11 years.'The exercise intervention methods used for different diseases were sorted according to the mode,frequency,and intensity of exercise.Results:The collected articles were categorized into studies related to 6 systems or disease types:motor system(17 articles),metabolic system(110 articles),cardiocerebral vascular system(171 articles),nervous system(71 articles),urinary system(2 articles),and cancer(21 articles).Our review found that,for different diseases,exercise intervention mostly had a positive effect.However,the most powerful effect was achieved by using a specific mode of exercise that addressed the characteristics of the disease.Conclusion:As a model animal,rats not only provide a convenient resource for studying human diseases but also provide the possibility for exploring the molecular mechanisms of exercise intervention on diseases.This review also aims to provide exercise intervention frameworks and optimal exercise dose recommendations for further human exercise intervention research.Ruwen Wang Haili Tian Dandan Guo Qianqian Tian Ting Yao Xingxing Kong 2020Journal of Sport and Health Science2020,9,3:3
8Real-time optical spike-timing dependent plasticity in a single VCSEL with dual-polarized pulsed optical injection显示文摘We propose and numerically realize an optical spike-timing dependent plasticity(STDP)scheme by using a single vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser(VCSEL).In the scheme,the VCSEL is subjected to an orthogonally-polarized continuous-wave optical injection(OPCWOI)and dual-polarized pulsed optical injections(DPPOI).Based on the widely used spin-flip model,the response spiking dynamics of VCSEL is numerically studied,and then the optical STDP in a single VCSEL is explored.The roles of bias current,the strength of OPCWOI and DPPOI,and the frequency detuning on the optical STDP curve are numerically analyzed.It is found that,by simultaneously utilizing the response spiking dynamics in two orthogonal polarization modes,an optical STDP could be achieved by using a single VCSEL.Furthermore,the weight update of STDP curve can be calculated in real-time.Additionally,the STDP curves can also be controlled by adjusting some controllable parameters.The real-time optical STDP based on a single VCSEL is numerically realized for the first time,which paves the way towards fully VCSELs-based photonic neuromorphic systems with low power consumption.Shuiying XIANG Yanan HAN Xingxing GUO Aijun WEN Genquan HAN Yue HAO 2020Science China(Information Sciences)2020,63,6:3
9Photonic integrated spiking neuron chip based on a self-pulsating DFB laser with a saturable absorber显示文摘We proposed and experimentally demonstrated a simple and novel photonic spiking neuron based on a distributed feedback(DFB)laser chip with an intracavity saturable absorber(SA).The DFB laser with an intracavity SA(DFBSA)contains a gain region and an SA region.The gain region is designed and fabricated by the asymmetric equivalentπ-phase shift based on the reconstruction-equivalent-chirp technique.Under properly injected current in the gain region and reversely biased voltage in the SA region,periodic self-pulsation was experimentally observed due to the Q-switching effect.The self-pulsation frequency increases with the increase of the bias current and is within the range of several gigahertz.When the bias current is below the self-pulsation threshold,neuronlike spiking responses appear when external optical stimulus pulses are injected.Experimental results show that the spike threshold,temporal integration,and refractory period can all be observed in the fabricated DFB-SA chip.To numerically verify the experimental findings,a time-dependent coupled-wave equation model was developed,which described the physics processes inside the gain and SA regions.The numerical results agree well with the experimental measurements.We further experimentally demonstrated that the weighted sum output can readily be encoded into the self-pulsation frequency of the DFB-SA neuron.We also benchmarked the handwritten digit classification task with a simple single-layer fully connected neural network.By using the experimentally measured dependence of the self-pulsation frequency on the bias current in the gain region as an activation function,we can achieve a recognition accuracy of 92.2%,which bridges the gap between the continuous valued artificial neural networks and spike-based neuromorphic networks.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first experimental demonstration of a photonic integrated spiking neuron based on a DFB-SA,which shows great potential to realizing large-scale multiwavelength photonic spiking neural network chips.YUECHUN SHI SHUIYING XIANG XINGXING GUO YAHUI ZHANG HONGJI WANG DIANZHUANG ZHENG YUNA ZHANG YANAN HAN YONG ZHAO XIAOJUN ZHU XIANGFEI CHEN XUN LI YUE HAO 2023Photonics Research2023,11,8:2
10Experimental demonstration of pyramidal neuron-like dynamics dominated by dendritic action potentials based on a VCSEL for all-optical XOR classification task显示文摘We experimentally and numerically demonstrate an approach to optically reproduce a pyramidal neuron-like dynamics dominated by dendritic Ca^(2+) action potentials(dCaAPs)based on a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser(VCSEL)for the first time.The biological pyramidal neural dynamics dominated by dCaAPs indicates that the dendritic electrode evoked somatic spikes with current near threshold but failed to evoke(or evoked less)somatic spikes for higher current intensity.The emulating neuron-like dynamics is performed optically based on the injection locking,spiking dynamics,and damped oscillations in the optically injected VCSEL.In addition,the exclusive OR(XOR)classification task is examined in the VCSEL neuron equipped with the pyramidal neuronlike dynamics dominated by dCaAPs.Furthermore,a single spike or multiple periodic spikes are suggested to express the result of the XOR classification task for enhancing the processing rate or accuracy.The experimental and numerical results show that the XOR classification task is achieved successfully in the VCSEL neuron enabled to mimic the pyramidal neuron-like dynamics dominated by dCaAPs.This work reveals valuable pyramidal neuron-like dynamics in a VCSEL and offers a novel approach to solve XOR classification task with a fast and simple all-optical spiking neural network,and hence shows great potentials for future photonic spiking neural networks and photonic neuromorphic computing.YAHUI ZHANG SHUIYING XIANG XINGYU CAO SHIHAO ZHAO XINGXING GUO AIJUN WEN YUE HAO 2021Photonics Research2021,9,6:2
11Experimental demonstration of coherent photonic neural computing based on a Fabry–Perot laser with a saturable absorber显示文摘As Moore’s law has reached its limits,it is becoming increasingly difficult for traditional computing architectures to meet the demands of continued growth in computing power.Photonic neural computing has become a promising approach to overcome the von Neuman bottleneck.However,while photonic neural networks are good at linear computing,it is difficult to achieve nonlinear computing.Here,we propose and experimentally demonstrate a coherent photonic spiking neural network consisting of Mach–Zehnder modulators(MZMs)as the synapse and an integrated quantum-well Fabry–Perot laser with a saturable absorber(FP-SA)as the photonic spiking neuron.Both linear computation and nonlinear computation are realized in the experiment.In such a coherent architecture,two presynaptic signals are modulated and weighted with two intensity modulation MZMs through the same optical carrier.The nonlinear neuron-like dynamics including temporal integration,threshold,and refractory period are successfully demonstrated.Besides,the effects of frequency detuning on the nonlinear neuron-like dynamics are also explored,and the frequency detuning condition is revealed.The proposed hardware architecture plays a foundational role in constructing a large-scale coherent photonic spiking neural network.DIANZHUANG ZHENG SHUIYING XIANG XINGXING GUO YAHUI ZHANG BILING GU HONGJI WANG ZHENZHEN XU XIAOJUN ZHU YUECHUN SHI YUE HAO 2023Photonics Research2023,11,1:2
12Wulong Xiaozheng Wan medicated serum inhibits epithelial-mesenchymal transition in human gastric carcinoma cell line BGC823 by modulation of transforming growth factor-β1/Smad signaling显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effect of Wulong Xiaozheng Wan medicated serum on the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of BGC823 cell induced by transforming growth factor-β,(TGF-β,) and to explore its mechanism.METHODS:EMT model of BGC823 was stimulated by TGF-β1.Wulong Xiaozheng Wan medicated serum and LY-364947 were used as intervention.The proliferation and adhesion of BGC823 were detected by 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide and flow cytometry was used to detect the apoptosis.The invasion and migration were detected by Transwell.The level of matrix metalloproteins was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.The expressions of related proteins and mRNA of EMT marker and TGF-β1/Smad signal pathway were detected by Western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS:Compared with the TGF-β1 group,Wulong Xiaozheng Wan medicated serum could inhibit the ability of proliferation,heterogeneous adhesion,invasion,and migration.It also promotes apoptosis and homotypic adhesion in BGC823,with a dose-dependent manner.Meanwhile,Wulong Xiaozheng Wan medicated serum could regulate the expression of related proteins and mRNA of TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway,and inhibit the expressions of EMT transcription factors and EMT markers.CONCLUSION:Wulong Xiaozheng Wan medicated serum inhibited epithelial-mesenchymal transition by down-regulated the expression of TβRI and the activation of TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway.Zhang Yali Wang Bingyu Guo Xueying Yang Lei Li Dandan Yuan Xingxing 2019Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2019,39,3:2

14Assembly of layer-by-layer films of superoxide dismutase and gold nanorods:A third generation biosensor for superoxide anion显示文摘Based on the layer-by-layer self-assembly of positively charged cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) wrapped gold na- norods (AuNRs) and negatively charged superoxide dismutase (SOD) from their aqueous solutions on cysteine modified gold electrode (Cys/Au), a third generation electrochemical biosensor ((SOD/AuNRs)2/Cys/Au) for superoxide anion (O2·-) was developed. The two layers assembly of SOD/AuNRs can significantly enhance the direct electron transfer between SOD and the electrode. The functional enzymatic activities of the SOD offer an electrochemical approach to the determination of O2·-. 16A novel TIR-NBS-LRR gene regulates immune response to Phytophthora root rot in soybean显示文摘Phytophthora root rot(PRR),caused by Phytophthora sojae,is a devastating disease of soybean.The NBSLRR gene family is a class of plant genes involved in disease resistance.miRNA mediates plant response to biotic stresses by regulating the expression of target genes at the transcriptional or post-translational level.Glyma.16G135500,encoding an NBS-LRR-type protein,is a target of gma-miR1510 that responds to pathogen infections.We cloned and overexpressed Glyma.16G135500(naming it GmTNL16)and knocked down mi R1510 using short tandem target mimic technology to identify the roles of the GmTNL16/gma-mi R1510 pair in the interaction of soybean and the oomycete.By overexpressing GmTNL16 in transgenic hairy roots of soybean,we showed that biomass of P.sojae was lower in overexpressing hairy roots than in control roots.Thus,miR1510 expression was reduced upon P.sojae infection,reflecting the induced expression of GmTNL16 conferring resistance to P.sojae in soybean.Differentially expressed genes were enriched in plant-pathogen interaction,plant hormone signal transduction,and secondary metabolism by RNA sequencing analyze.In particular,jasmonate and salicylic acid pathway-associated genes,including JAZ,COI1,TGA,and PR,responded to P.sojae infection.All of these results indicate that the GmTNL16/gma-miR1510 pair participates in soybean defense response via the JA and SA pathways.Li Zhou Sushuang Deng Huidong Xuan Xingxing Fan Ruidong Sun Jinming Zhao Haitang Wang Na Guo Han Xing 2022The Crop Journal2022,10,6:1
17LncRNA DACH1 protects against pulmonary fibrosis by binding to SRSF1 to suppress CTNNB1 accumulation显示文摘Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)is a progressive disease with unknown etiology and limited therapeutic options.Activation of fibroblasts is a prominent feature of pulmonary fibrosis.Here we report that lncRNA DACH1(dachshund homolog 1)is downregulated in the lungs of IPF patients and in an experimental mouse model of lung fibrosis.LncDACH1 knockout mice develop spontaneous pulmonary fibrosis,whereas overexpression of LncDACH1 attenuated TGF-β1-induced aberrant activation,collagen deposition and differentiation of mouse lung fibroblasts.Similarly,forced expression of LncDACH1 not only prevented bleomycin(BLM)-induced lung fibrosis,but also reversed established lung fibrosis in a BLM model.Mechanistically,LncDACH1 binding to the serine/arginine-rich splicing factor 1(SRSF1)protein decreases its activity and inhibits the accumulation of Ctnnb1.Enhanced expression of SRSF1 blocked the anti-fibrotic effect of LncDACH1 in lung fibroblasts.Furthermore,loss of LncDACH1 promoted proliferation,differentiation,and extracellular matrix(ECM)deposition in mouse lung fibroblasts,whereas such effects were abolished by silencing of Ctnnb1.In addition,a conserved fragment of LncDACH1 alleviated hyperproliferation,ECM deposition and differentiation of MRC-5 cells driven by TGF-β1.Collectively,LncDACH1 inhibits lung fibrosis by interacting with SRSF1 to suppress CTNNB1 accumulation,suggesting that LncDACH1 might be a potential therapeutic target for pulmonary fibrosis.Jian Sun Tongzhu Jin Zhihui Niu Jiayu Guo Yingying Guo Ruoxuan Yang Qianqian Wang Huiying Gao Yuhan Zhang Tianyu Li Wenxin He Zhixin Li Wenchao Ma Wei Su Liangliang Li Xingxing Fan Hongli Shan Haihai Liang 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,9:1
18Efficacy and safety of Sancai powder in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of Sancai powder in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) inadequately controlled with single oral metformin in a randomized controlled trial(RCT).METHODS: A total of 132 patients with T2 DM were enrolled in the study, who only took metformin(500-1000 mg/day) for at least three months and with inadequate glycemic control(7.0% ≤ hemoglobin A1 c ≤ 9.0%) in the past three months.The patients stopped taking metformin with lifestyle interventions for three weeks, and 105 patients qualified for the program. They were randomly divided into the Sancai powder group and the metformin group(1500 mg/day). The follow-up period was for 12 weeks. Comparisons of several variables were analyzed.RESULTS: No significant differences were found between the two groups in hemoglobin A1c(Hb A1c),fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and 2 h post-meal glucose(2h PG), although they had decreased significantly(P < 0.01). Homeostasis model assessment of beta cell function index was significantly improved in Sancai powder group(P < 0.01), and there were significant differences in the changes of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity index in the two groups(P < 0.05).
