13D printing of bone tissue engineering scaffolds显示文摘Tissue engineering is promising in realizing successful treatments of human body tissue loss that current methods cannot treat well or achieve satisfactory clinical outcomes.In scaffold-based bone tissue engineering,a high performance scaffold underpins the success of a bone tissue engineering strategy and a major direction in the field is to produce bone tissue engineering scaffolds with desirable shape,structural,physical,chemical and biological features for enhanced biological performance and for regenerating complex bone tissues.Three-dimensional(3D)printing can produce customized scaffolds that are highly desirable for bone tissue engineering.The enormous interest in 3D printing and 3D printed objects by the science,engineering and medical communities has led to various developments of the 3D printing technology and wide investigations of 3D printed products in many industries,including biomedical engineering,over the past decade.It is now possible to create novel bone tissue engineering scaffolds with customized shape,architecture,favorable macro-micro structure,wettability,mechanical strength and cellular responses.This article provides a concise review of recent advances in the R&D of 3D printing of bone tissue engineering scaffolds.It also presents our philosophy and research in the designing and fabrication of bone tissue engineering scaffolds through 3D printing.Chong Wang Wei Huang Yu Zhou Libing He Zhi He Ziling Chen Xiao He Shuo Tian Jiaming Liao Bingheng Lu Yen Wei Min Wang 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,1:20
2Antioxidant effects of the orientin and vitexin in Trollius chinensis Bunge in D-galactose-aged mice显示文摘Total flavonoids are the main pharmaceutical components of Trollius chinensis Bunge, and orientin and vitexin are the monomer components of total flavonoids in Trollius chinensis Bunge. In this study, an aged mouse model was established through intraperitoneal injection of D-galactose for 8 weeks, followed by treatment with 40, 20, or 10 mg/kg orientin, vitexin, or a positive control (vitamin E) via intragastric administration for an additional 8 weeks. Orientin, vitexin, and vitamin E improved the general medical status of the aging mice and significantly increased their brain weights. They also produced an obvious rise in total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase levels in the serum, and the levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase, Na+-K+-ATP enzyme, and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATP enzyme in the liver, brain and kidneys. In addition, they significantly reduced malondialdehyde levels in the liver, brain and kidney and lipofuscin levels in the brain. They also significantly improved the neuronal ultrastructure. The 40 mg/kg dose of orientin and vitexin had the same antioxidant capacity as vitamin E. 3Wnt and BMP signaling crosstalk in regulating dental stem cells:Implications in dental tissue engineering显示文摘Tooth is a complex hard tissue organ and consists of multiple cell types that are regulated by important signaling pathways such as Wnt and BMP signaling.Serious injuries and/or loss of tooth or periodontal tissues may significantly impact aesthetic appearance,essential oral functions and the quality of life.Regenerative dentistry holds great promise in treating oral/dental disorders.The past decade has witnessed a rapid expansion of our understanding of the biological features of dental stem cells,along with the signaling mechanisms governing stem cell self-renewal and differentiation.In this review,we first summarize the biological characteristics of seven types of dental stem cells,including dental pulp stem cells,stem cells from apical papilla,stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth,dental follicle precursor cells,periodontal ligament stem cells,alveolar bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),and MSCs from gingiva.We then focus on how these stem cells are regulated by bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)and/or Wnt signaling by examining the interplays between these pathways.Lastly,we analyze the current status of dental tissue engineering strategies that utilize oral/dental stem cells by harnessing the interplays between BMP and Wnt pathways.We also highlight the challenges that must be addressed before the dental stem cells may reach any clinical applications.Thus,we can expect to witness significant progresses to be made in regenerative dentistry in the coming decade.Fugui Zhang Jinlin Song Hongmei Zhang Enyi Huang Dongzhe Song Viktor Tollemar Jing Wang Jinhua Wang Maryam Mohammed Qiang Wei Jiaming Fan Junyi Liao Yulong Zou Feng Liu Xue Hu Xiangyang Qu Liqun Chen Xinyi Yu Hue H.Luu Michael J.Lee Tong-Chuan He Ping Ji 2016Genes & Diseases2016,3,4:16

5Electrochemical performance of MCMB/(AC+LiFePO_4) lithium-ion capacitors显示文摘Lithium-ion capacitors(LICs) were fabricated using mesocarbon microbeads(MCMB) as a negative electrode and a mixture of activated carbon(AC) and LiFePO4 as a positive electrode(abbreviated as LAC).The phase structure and morphology of LAC samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM).The electrochemical performance of the LICs was studied using cyclic voltammetry,charge-discharge rate measurements,and cycle performance testing.A LIC with 30 wt% LiFePO4 was found to have the best electrochemical performance with a specific energy density of 69.02 W h kg-1 remaining at 4 C rate after 100 cycles.Compared with an AC-only positive electrode system,the ratio of practical capacity to theoretical calculated capacity of the LICs was enhanced from 42.22% to 56.59%.It was proved that adding LiFePO4 to AC electrodes not only increased the capacity of the positive electrode,but also improved the electrochemical performances of the whole LICs via Li+ pre-doping.PING LiNa ZHENG JiaMing SHI ZhiQiang QI Jie WANG ChengYang 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,6:12
6Single-cell transcriptomic atlas of primate cardiopulmonary aging显示文摘Aging is a major risk factor for many diseases,especially in highly prevalent cardiopulmonary comorbidities and infectious diseases including Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19).Resolving cellular and molecular mechanisms associated with aging in higher mammals is therefore urgently needed.Here,we created young and old non-human primate single-nucleus/cell transcriptomic atlases of lung,heart and artery,the top tissues targeted by SARS-CoV-2.Analysis of cell type-specific aging-associated transcriptional changes revealed increased systemic inflammation and compromised virus defense as a hallmark of cardiopulmonary aging.With age,expression of the SARS-CoV-2 receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)was increased in the pulmonary alveolar epithelial barrier,cardiomyocytes,and vascular endothelial cells.We found that interleukin 7(IL7)accumulated in aged cardiopulmonary tissues and induced ACE2 expression in human vascular endothelial cells in an NF-κB-dependent manner.Furthermore,treatment with vitamin C blocked IL7-induced ACE2 expression.Altogether,our findings depict the first transcriptomic atlas of the aged primate cardiopulmonary system and provide vital insights into age-linked susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2,suggesting that geroprotective strategies may reduce COVID-19 severity in the elderly.Shuai Ma Shuhui Sun Jiaming Li Yanling Fan Jing Qu Liang Sun Si Wang Yiyuan Zhang Shanshan Yang Zunpeng Liu Zeming Wu Sheng Zhang Qiaoran Wang Aihua Zheng Shuguang Duo Yang Yu Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte Piu Chan Qi Zhou Moshi Song Weiqi Zhang Guang-Hui Liu 2021Cell Research2021,31,4:10
7Geochronology, Geochemistry and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf Isotopes of No. I Complex from the Shitoukengde Ni–Cu Sulfide Deposit in the Eastern Kunlun Orogen, Western China: Implications for the Magmatic Source, Geodynamic Setting and Genesis显示文摘The Shitoukengde Ni-Cu deposit, located in the Eastern Kunlun Orogen, comprises three mafic–ultramafic complexes, with the No. I complex hosting six Ni-Cu orebodies found recently. The deposit is hosted in the small ultramafic bodies intruding Proterozoic metamorphic rocks. Complexes at Shitoukengde contain all kinds of mafic-ultramafic rocks, and olivine websterite and pyroxene peridotite are the most important Ni-Cu-hosted rocks. Zircon U-Pb dating suggests that the Shitoukengde Ni-Cu deposit formed in late Silurian(426–422 Ma), and their zircons have εHf(t) values of-9.4 to 5.9 with the older T_(DM1) ages(0.80–1.42 Ga). Mafic-ultramafic rocks from the No. I complex show the similar rare earth and trace element patterns, which are enriched in light rare earth elements and large ion lithophile elements(e.g., K, Rb, Th) and depleted in heavy rare earth elements and high field strength elements(e.g., Ta, Nb, Zr, Ti). Sulfides from the deposit have the slightly higher δ^(34)S values of 1.9–4.3‰ than the mantle(0 ± 2‰). The major and trace element characteristics, and Sr-Nd-Pb and Hf, S isotopes indicate that their parental magmas originated from a metasomatised, asthenospheric mantle source which had previously been modified by subduction-related fluids, and experienced significant crustal contamination both in the magma chamber and during ascent triggering S oversaturation by addition of S and Si, that resulted in the deposition and enrichment of sulfides. 8Alendronate loaded graphene oxide functionalized collagen sponge for the dual effects of osteogenesis and anti-osteoclastogenesis in osteoporotic rats显示文摘Graphene Oxide(GO)-related hydrogels have been extensively studied in hard tissue repair,because GO can not only enhance the mechanical properties of polymers but also promote osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells.However,simple GO-related hydrogels are not ideal for the repair of osteoporotic bone defects as the overactive osteoclasts in osteoporosis.Alendronate(Aln)is known to inhibit osteoclasts and may bind to GO through covalent connection.Therefore,delivering Aln in GO-related hydrogels may be effective to repair osteoporotic bone defects.Here,we developed a control-released system which is constructed by collagen(Col)-GO sponges loaded with Aln(Col-GO-Aln)for osteoporotic bone defect repair.In vitro,Col-GO-Aln sponges prolonged the release period of Aln,and the sponge containing 0.05%(w/v)GO released Aln faster than sponge with 0.2%GO.Furthermore,tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)and F-actin staining demonstrated that Col-GO-Aln sponges effectively inhibited osteoclastogenesis of monocyte-macrophages.In vivo,micro-CT scan showed that the volume of newborn bone in defect site by 0.05%GO sponge was nearly three times larger than that of other groups.Moreover,the CT and histological examinations of rat femur proved that Col-GO-Aln sponges decreased the number of osteoclasts and suppressed the systemic bone loss in osteoporotic rats.These findings reveal that the application of GO as carriers of anti-osteoporosis drugs is a viable treatment for osteoporosis.The results also underscore the potential of GO-related hydrogels with Aln-releasing capacity for bone regeneration in osteoporosis.Yuyang Zeng Muran Zhou Lifeng Chen Huimin Fang Shaokai Liu Chuchao Zhou Jiaming Sun Zhenxing Wang 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,4:10
9Influences of preload on the friction and wear properties of high-speed instrument angular contact ball bearings显示文摘For starved-oil or solid lubrication of high-speed instrument angular contact ball bearings, friction heating and wear are the main reasons of bearing failures. This paper presents a dynamic wear simulation model to investigate the impacts of different preload methods and the changes of preload caused by wear on bearing wear life. The integral value QV of stress and sliding velocity in the contact ellipses between a ball and the inner and outer races determines friction heating and wear. The changes of QV with the friction coefficient and the wear volume under constantforce preload and fixed-position preload are analyzed. Results show that under the same initial preload, the QV decreases with an increase of the friction coefficient for both preload methods, and the latter is slightly larger. The wear of the ball and the race is equivalent to the ball diameter reduction.The QV of constant-force preload is almost not changed with a decrease of the ball diameter, but for fixed-position preload, the value decreases firstly and then increases substantially due to insufficient preload, and slipping occurs, the ball diameter is reduced by 0.025%, while the preload is reduced by 60.33%. 11Top-emitting thermally activated delayed fluorescence organic light-emitting devices with weak light-matter coupling显示文摘Resonance interaction between a molecular transition and a confined electromagnetic field can lead to weak or strong light-matter coupling.Considering the substantial exciton–phonon coupling in thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF)materials,it is thus interesting to explore whether weak light-matter coupling can be used to redistribute optical density of states and to change the rate of radiative decay.Here,we demonstrate that the emission distribution of TADF emitters can be reshaped and narrowed in a top-emitting organic light-emitting device(OLED)with a weakly coupled microcavity.The Purcell effect of weak microcavity is found to be different for TADF emitters with different molecular orientations.We demonstrate that radiative rates of the TADF emitters with vertical orientation can be substantial increased in weakly coupled organic microcavity.These observations can enhance external quantum efficiencies,reduce efficiency roll-off,and improve color-purities of TADF OLEDs,especially for emitters without highly horizontal orientation.Chunxiu Zang Shihao Liu Mengxin Xu Ruifang Wang Chen Cao Zelin Zhu Jiaming Zhang Hui Wang Letian Zhang Wenfa Xie Chun-Sing Lee 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,7:7
12Correlation of Gut Microbiome Between ASD Children and Mothers and Potential Biomarkers for Risk Assessment显示文摘Variation of maternal gut microbiota may increase the risk of autism spectrum disorders(ASDs) in offspring. Animal studies have indicated that maternal gut microbiota is related to neurodevelopmental abnormalities in mouse offspring, while it is unclear whether there is a correlation between gut microbiota of ASD children and their mothers. We examined the relationships between gut microbiome profiles of ASD children and those of their mothers, and evaluated the clinical discriminatory power of discovered bacterial biomarkers. Gut microbiome was profiled and evaluated by 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing in stool samples of 59 mother–child pairs of ASD children and 30 matched mother–child pairs of healthy children. Significant differences were observed in the gut microbiome composition between ASD and healthy children in our Chinese cohort. Several unique bacterial biomarkers, such as Alcaligenaceae and Acinetobacter, were identified. Mothers of ASD children had more Proteobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria, Moraxellaceae, and Acinetobacter than mothers of healthy children. There was a clear correlation between gut microbiome profiles of children and their mothers; however, children with ASD still had unique bacterial biomarkers, such as Alcaligenaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, and Clostridium. Candidate biomarkers discovered in this study had remarkable discriminatory power. 15Artificial Selection in Domestication and Breeding Prevents Speciation in Rice显示文摘Speciation has long been regarded as an irreversible process once the reproductive barriers had been established.However,unlike in natural populations,artificial selection might either accelerate or prevent speciation processes in domesticated species.Asian cultivated rice is a target crop for both domestication and artificial breeding;it contains two subspecies of indica and japonica,which usually produce sterile inter-subspecific hybrids due to reproductive barriers.In this study,we constructed the evolutionary trajectory of a reproductive isolation system S5,which regulates fertility in indica-japonica hybrids via three adjacent genes,based on the data of 606 accessions including two cultivated and 11 wild rice species.Although hybrid sterility haplotypes at S5 lead to establishment of a killer-protector reproductive barrier,origin of wide-compatibility haplotypes by complex hybridization and recombination provides an opposing force to reproductive isolation and thus prevents speciation during domestication.Analysis in a diallel set of 209 crosses involving 21 parents showed that the wide-compatibility genotypes largely rescued fertility of indica-japonica hybrids,indicating that the wide-compatibility gene would enable gene flow to maintain species coherence.This counteracting system indicates that combined effects of natural evolution and artificial selection may result in reversible processes of speciation in rice,which may also have implications for genetic improvement of rice.Jiaming Mi Guangwei Li Conghao Xu Jiangyi Yang Huihui Yu Gongwei Wang Xianghua Li Jinghua Xiao Huazhi Song Qifa Zhang Yidan Ouyang 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,4:6
16Anatomical variation of infra-pyloric artery origination: A prospective multicenter observational study (IPA-Origin)显示文摘Objective: Infra-pyloric artery(IPA) is an important anatomical landmark in treatment of gastric cancer and is the key vessel for pylorus-preserving gastrectomy and subgroup of infra-pyloric lymph nodes. However, its anatomical variation is not thoroughly understood. Our study aimed to clarify the origination of the IPA.Methods: We did this prospective, multicenter, open-label, observational study at gastric surgery departments of34 hospitals in China. Gastric cancer patients aged 18 years or older and scheduled to undergo elective total or distal gastrectomy were assigned. During the surgery, IPA dissecting and exposing the origination point with photographs or video clips were required. The primary outcome was the origination of the IPA. Analysis of variance, χ~2 tests and Fisher's tests were used to analyze the differences between groups. The study is registered at Clinicaltrials.gov(No. NCT03071237).Results: Between May 8 and July 31, 2017, 429 patients were assigned for the study, and 419(97.7%) patients had the IPA dissected and recorded through photograph or video and were included in the primary outcome analysis. The median age was 62 years old, and 73.7% were male. Among the patients, 78.5% received laparoscopic surgery. Single IPA origination was identified in 398(95.0%) patients, including gastroduodenal artery(GDA) in154(36.8%) patients, anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery(ASPDA) in 130(31.0%) patients, and right gastroepiploic artery(RGEA) in 114(27.2%) patients. Fifteen(3.6%) patients were identified with multiple IPA and 6(1.4%) patients were identified as IPA absence. The differences in the distribution of surgical approach(P=0.003) and geographic area(P=0.030) were statistically significant. 20Investigation on experimental load spectrum for high and low cycle combined fatigue test显示文摘As the outfield load spectrum is so complicated that it cannot be used directly for test study in laboratory.This paper presents a method to determine load spectrum for high and low cycle combined fatigue of turbine mortise at elevated temperature through experimental and numerical method.First of all,the low cycle load spectrum with duration time is determined through cumulative damage rule.The rain flow counting method is applied to obtain main cycles and sub cycles,and then the stress cycle is converted into pulsation cycle(stress ratio=0)based on the S-N curve and the Goodman curve;Secondly,three groups of different amplitudes tests are established to determine the high cycle amplitude.Finally,another three groups of the high-low combined cycle fatigue(HLCCF)tests for turbine mortise of a certain type engine are carried out.The results show that the macro and micro failure modes are identical with outfield's,which verifies the accuracy of the conversion method.Rongqiao Wang Jiaming Wei Dianyin Hu Xiuli Shen Jiang Fan 2013Propulsion and Power Research2013,2,4:4
