| 1 | Larvicidal activity of Dregea volubilis and Bombax malabaricum leaf extracts against the filarial vector Culex quinquefasciatus显示文摘Objective:To analyze the larvicidal activity of two plant leaf powder and leaf-extracts, Dregea volubilis and Bombax malabaricum against Culex quinquefasciatus.Methods:The larvicidal bioassay was done for powdered leaves of Dregea volubilis and Bombax malabaricum individually and their methanol extracts against first-,second-,third- and fourth-instar larval forms of Culex quinquefasciatus.Mortality rate was recorded after 24,48 and 72 h of postexposure. LC50 and LG90 values were calculated at different time intervals for third instar larvae. Results:All the graded concentration(0.1%,0.2%,0.3%,0.4%,0.5%) of powdered leaves showed significant(P <0.05) larval mortality.The mortality rate was higher in 50 ppm doses of methanolic extracts of both the plants against Culex quinquefaciatus.The corresponding <C50 values were 56.97 ppm and 48.85 ppm,respectively after 24 h of exposure.There is no mortality of non-target organism such as Chironomous circumdatus,Oreochromis niloticus niloticus and Diplonichus annulatum within 72 h of post exposure to 0.1%,0.2%,0.3%crude powdered leaves and methanolic extracts of both the two individual plants under the laboratory condition.The results of preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis of both the plants revealed the presence of many bioactive principles such as steroids,tannins,flavonoids,triterpenoids,saponins,etc. that may be responsible for their bio-control potentiality.Conclusions:The results have shown potential and eco-friendly use of both plant extracts against larva of Culex quinquefasciatus for the first time. | Emdad Hossain Anjali Rawani Goutam Chandra Subhash C.Mandal Jayanta Kumar Gupta | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,6: | 3 |
| 2 | Primary pediatric mid-brain lymphoma:Report of a rare pediatric tumor in a rare location显示文摘Primary central nervous system lymphoma(PCNSL) is a rare disease in pediatric age group. A thirteen-yearold male child presented with complaints of headache for six months, vomiting and diplopia for three days. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed a single lesion of 1.7 cm × 1.6 cm × 1.6 cm in the mid brain and tectum. He underwent a gross total resection of the tumor. The histopathological evaluation revealed B cell high grade non Hodgkin lymphoma. The patient was treated with High dose methotrexate and cranio spinal radiation. The patient was alive without disease 12 mo after completion of treatment. This case highlights importance of keeping PCNSL as differential in brain stem lesions of pediatric patients also. | 11 | Radiation dose analysis of computed tomography coronary angiography in Children with Kawasaki disease显示文摘BACKGROUND There is evolving role of computed tomography coronary angiography(CTCA)in non-invasive evaluation of coronary artery abnormalities in children with Kawasaki disease(KD).Despite this,there is lack of data on radiation dose in this group of children undergoing CTCA.AIM To audit the radiation dose of CTCA in children with KD.METHODS Study(December 2013-February 2018)was performed on dual source CT scanner using adaptive prospective electrocardiography-triggering.The dose length product(DLP in milligray-centimeters-mGy.cm)was recorded.Effective radiation dose(millisieverts-mSv)was calculated by applying appropriate age adjusted conversion factors as per recommendations of International Commission on Radiological Protection.Radiation dose was compared across the groups(0-1,1-5,5-10,and>10 years).RESULTS Eighty-five children(71 boys,14 girls)with KD underwent CTCA.The median age was 5 years(range,2 mo-11 years).Median DLP and effective dose was 21 mGy.cm,interquartile ranges(IQR)=15(13,28)and 0.83 mSv,IQR=0.33(0.68,1.01)respectively.Mean DLP increased significantly across the age groups.Mean effective dose in infants(0.63 mSv)was significantly lower than the other age groups(1-5 years 0.85 mSv,5-10 years 1.04 mSv,and>10 years 1.38 mSv)(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the effective dose between the other groups of children.All the CTCA studies were of diagnostic quality.No child required a repeat examination.CONCLUSION CTCA is feasible with submillisievert radiation dose in most children with KD.Thus,CTCA has the potential to be an important adjunctive imaging modality in children with KD. | Mahesh Chandra Bhatt Manphool Singhal Rakesh Kumar Pilania Subhash Chand Bansal Niranjan Khandelwal Pankaj Gupta Surjit Singh | 2023 | World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2023,12,4: | 0 |

| 13 | Distally based peroneus brevis muscle flap: A single centre experience显示文摘Purpose: Defects aro und the distal one third of the leg and ankle are difficult to man age by con servative measures or simple split thickness skin graft. Distally based peroneus brevis muscle flap is a well described flap for such defects. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis conducted on 25 patients with soft tissue and bony defects of distal third of lower leg and an kle, which were treated using distally based per on eus brevis muscle flap from January 2013 to January 2018. Information regarding patient demographics, etiology, size and location of defects and complications were collected. All patients were followed up for at least 3 months after surgery. Results: There were 21 males and 4 females with the mean age of 39 (5-76) years. The most comm on cause of injuries was road traffic accident, followed by complicated open injury. The average size of defects was 20 (4—50) cm^2. The mean operating time was 75 (60-90) min for flap harvest and inset. We had no patient with complete loss of the flap. Five patients (20%) had marginal necrosis of the flap and two patie nts have graft loss due to un derlyi ng hematoma and required sec on dary split thickness skin grafting. Conclusion: The distally based peroneus brevis muscle flap is a safe optio n w 让h reliable an atomy for small to moderate sized defects following low velocity injury around the ankle.
