1Size distribution of chemical elements and their source apportionment in ambient coarse, fine, and ultrafine particles in Shanghai urban summer atmosphere显示文摘Ambient coarse particles (diameter 1.8-10 μm), fine particles (diameter 0.1-1.8 μm), and ultrafine particles (diameter < 0.1 μm) in the atmosphere of the city of Shanghai were sampled during the summer of 2008 (from Aug 27 to Sep 08). Microscopic characterization of the particles was investigated by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX). Mass concentrations of Si, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Br, Rb, Sr, and Pb in the size-resolved particles were quantified by using synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SRXRF). Source apportionment of the chemical elements was analyzed by means of an enrichment factor method. Our results showed that the average mass concentrations of coarse particles, fine particles and ultrafine particles in the summer air were 9.38 ± 2.18, 8.82 ± 3.52, and 2.02 ± 0.41 μg/m3, respectively. The mass percentage of the fine particles accounted for 51.47% in the total mass of PM10, indicating that fine particles are the major component in the Shanghai ambient particles. SEM/EDX results showed that the coarse particles were dominated by minerals, fine particles by soot aggregates and fly ashes, and ultrafine particles by soot particles and unidentified particles. SRXRF results demonstrated that crustal elements were mainly distributed in the coarse particles, while heavy metals were in higher proportions in the fine particles. Source apportionment revealed that Si, K, Ca, Fe, Mn, Rb, and Sr were from crustal sources, and S, Cl, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Br, and Pb from anthropogenic sources. 3Phase behavior of TXs/toluene/water microemulsion systems for solubilization absorption of toluene显示文摘Triton Xs(TXs) surfactants/cosurfactant/water/oil(toluene) microemulsion systems for enhancing toluene solubilization were proposed and its potential was investigated for toluene removal from gas stream.The results indicated that TX-100 was superior to other TXs surfactants in removing toluene without cosurfactant.The efficiency of cosurfactants for improving toluene solubilization capacity follows the order:amine>alcohol>acid.According to the factor analysis,the linear cosurfactants are better than the branched ones.The effects of hydrophile-lipophile balance(HLB),salt(NaCl) concentration and temperature on the formation of microemulsion system were also discussed.The results suggested that the optimum value of HLB was 15,the effect of NaCl concentration on the system was inconspicuous and the lower temperature enhanced the solubilization capacity.Nonionic surfactant-based microemulsions had a significant absorption enhancement for toluene,indicated by as much as 82.72% of toluene in phase composition diagram,which will have a great prospect in air pollution treatment.Lian Liu,Senlin Tian ,Ping Ning Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering,Kunming University of Science and Technology,Kunming 650093,China 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,2:13
4Mineralogical characteristics of airborne particles collected in Beijing during a severe Asian dust storm period in spring 2002显示文摘Asian dust storm (ADS) samples were collected on March 20,2002 in Beijing,China. High-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray detector (FESEM-EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to study the morphology,chemical compositions,number-size dis-tributions and mineralogical compositions of ADS particles. The mineral particles were major compo-nents in the ADS samples,accounting for 94% by number. The XRD analysis indicated that the dust particles were dominated by clay (40.3%),and quartz (19.5%),followed by plagioclase (8.4%),calcite (7.5%),K-feldspar (1.5%),hematite (0.9%),pyrite (0.9%),hornblende (0.4%) and gypsum (0.3%),with a certain amount of noncrystalline materials (20.3%). Clay minerals were mainly illite/smectite mixed lay-ers (78%),followed by illite (9%),kaolinite (6%),and chlorite (7%). In addition to these main minerals,FESEM-EDX also detected some trace minerals,such as dolomite,pyrite,thenardite,as well as heavy minerals represented by rutile,ilmenite and apatite. 5Enhancement of chaotic carrier bandwidth in a semiconductor laser transmitter using self-phase modulation in an optical fiber external round cavity显示文摘A novel method to enhance the bandwidth of a chaotic carrier from a delayed feedback semiconductor laser transmitter is pre- sented using self-phase modulation (SPM) in an optical fiber external round cavity. A physical model of the laser dynamics is established under the condition of optical feedback light with the SPM effect in the fiber path. A formula for frequency detuning of the optical dual-feedback under SPM is theoretically deduced. The results show that the nonlinear phase shift caused by SPM has an impact on the gain and bandwidth enhancement factor of the laser. The second-order nonlinear effect of the fiber enriches the variety of the amplitudes and phases of the laser while the nonlinear phase shift produces a number of new frequencies, which can spread the bandwidth. Numerical results reveal that with the SPM effect, the bandwidth can be enhanced 4 times more than the bandwidth without it, and the relaxation oscillation frequency of the chaotic laser is increased to 2.56 times more than that of the laser without the fiber path. 6Activation of Mitochondrial orf355 Gene Expression by a Nuclear-Encoded DREB Transcription Factor Causes Cytoplasmic Male Sterility in Maize显示文摘Coordination between mitochondria and the nucleus is crucial for fertility determination in plants with cytoplasmic male sterility(CMS).Using yeast one-hybrid screening,we identified a transcription factor,ZmDREB1.7,that is highly expressed in sterile microspores at the large vacuole stage and activates the expression of mitochondria-encoded CMS gene orf355.Δpro,a weak allele of ZmDREB1.7 with the loss of a key unfolded protein response(UPR)motif in the promoter,partially restores male fertility of CMS-S maize.ZmDREB1.7 expression increases rapidly in response to antimycin A treatment,but this response is attenuated in theΔpro allele.Furthermore,we found that expression of orf355 in mitochondria activates mitochondrial retrograde signaling,which in turn induces ZmDREB1.7 expression.Taken together,these findings demonstrate that positive-feedback transcriptional regulation between a nuclear regulator and a mitochondrial CMS gene determines male sterility in maize,providing new insights into nucleus-mitochondria communication in plants.Senlin Xiao Jie Zang Yuanrong Pei Jie Liu Juan Liu Wei Song Zi Shi Aiguo Su Jiuran Zhao Huabang Chen 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,9:10
7Chaotic laser synchronization and its application in optical fiber secure communication显示文摘In this paper, optical fiber chaotic secure communication is proposed by coupling chaotic laser synchronous system with optical fiber propagation channel. Feedback synchronous system of chaotic semiconductor lasers is presented and synchronous error and decoding formulae are demonstrated. Synchronization between two chaotic laser systems with distributed feedback semiconductor lasers at wavelength of 1.31 μm is simulatively achieved with almost zero synchronous error. Parameter mismatch, synchronous transient response and noise effect on the system are studied. Robustness of synchronization and anti-perturbation can increase by increasing the feedback coefficient of the system. Influence of group-velocity-dispersion and self-phase modulation of optical fiber on chaotic laser signal and synchronization are analyzed, and it is found that group-velocity-dispersion affects pulse shape, synchronization and decodin gand limits optical fiber propagation distances, and self-phase modulation does not affect pulse shape, while its product of nonlinear phase shift can affect synchronization and decoding, and restrict propagation distances of optical fiber chaotic communication system and hence the maximum optical power formula is educed. 8Atomic mobilities and diffusivities in Al alloys显示文摘Knowledge of diffusivity is a prerequisite for understanding many scientific and technological disciplines.In this paper,firstly major experimental methods,which are employed to provide various diffusivity data,are briefly described.Secondly,the fundamentals of various computational methods,including first-principles method,embedded atomic method/molecular dynamic simulation,semi-empirical approaches,and phenomenological DICTRA technique,are demonstrated.Diffusion models recently developed for order/disorder transitions and stoichiometric compounds are also briefly depicted.Thirdly,a newly established diffusivity database for liquid,fcc_A1,L12,bcc_A2,bcc_B2,and intermetallic phases in the multicomponent Al alloys is presented via a few case studies in binary,ternary and quaternary systems.And the integration of various computational techniques and experimental methods is highlighted.The reliability of this diffusivity database is validated by comparing the calculated and measured concentration profiles,diffusion paths,and Kirkendall shifts in various binary,ternary and quaternary diffusion couples.Next,the established diffusivity databases along with thermodynamic and other thermo-physical properties are utilized to simulate the microstructural evolution for Al alloys during solidification,interdiffusion and precipitation.A special discussion is presented on the phase-field simulation of interdiffusion microstructures in a series of Ni-Al diffusion couples composed of γ,γ',and β phases under the effects of both coherent strain and external compressive force.Future orientations in the establishment of next generation of diffusivity database are finally addressed.DU Yong ZHANG LiJun CUI SenLin ZHAO DongDong LIU DanDan ZHANG WeiBin SUN WeiHua JIE WanQi 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,2:6
9Atmospheric HULIS and its ability to mediate the reactive oxygen species (ROS): A review显示文摘Atmospheric humic-like substances(HULIS) are not only an unresolved mixture of macroorganic compounds but also powerful chelating agents in atmospheric particulate matters(PMs); impacting on both the properties of aerosol particles and health effects by generating reactive oxygen species(ROS). Currently, the interests of HULIS are intensively shifting to the investigations of HULIS-metal synergic effects and kinetics modeling studies, as well as the development of HULIS quantification, findings of possible HULIS sources and generation of ROS from HULIS. In light of HULIS studies, we comprehensively review the current knowledge of isolation and physicochemical characterization of HULIS from atmospheric samples as well as HULIS properties(hygroscopic, surface activity, and colloidal) and possible sources of HULIS.This review mainly highlights the generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS) from PMs, HULIS and transition metals, especially iron. This review also summarized the mechanism of ironorganic complexation and recent findings of OH formation from HULIS-metal complexes. 10Reversibly enhanced aqueous solubilization of volatile organic compounds using a redox-reversible surfactant显示文摘Surfactant-enhanced remediation (SER) is an effective method for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from contaminated soils and groundwater.To reuse the surfactant the VOCs must be separated from the surfactant solutions.The water solubility of VOCs can be enhanced using reversible surfactants with a redox-acive group,(ferrocenylmethyl)dodecyldimethylammonium bromide (Fc12) and (ferrocenylmethyl)tetradecanedimethylammonium bromide (Fc14),above and below their critical micelle concentrations (CMC) under reducing (I + ) and oxidative (I 2+ ) conditions.The CMC values of Fc12 and Fc14 in I + are 0.94 and 0.56 mmol/L and the solubilization of toluene by Fc12 and Fc14 in I + for toluene is higher than the solubilization achieved with sodium dodecyl sulfate,cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and Trition X-114.The solubilization capacity of the ferrocenyl surfactants for each tested VOCs ranked as follows: ethylbenzene > toluene > benzene.The solubilities of VOCs by reversible surfactant in I + were 30% higher than those in I 2+ at comparable surfactant concentrations.The effects of Fc14 concentrations on VOCs removal efficiency were as follows: benzene > toluene > ethylbenzene.However,an improved removal efficiency was achieved at low ferrocenyl surfactant concentrations.Furthermore,the reversible surfactant could be recycled through chemical approaches to remove organic pollutants,which could significantly reduce the operating costs of SER technology.Yingjie Li Senlin Tian Hong Mo Ping Ning 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,9:5
11A top-down positioning scheme for underwater wireless sensor networks显示文摘In order to increase the localization coverage while keeping the localization error small in a unique network architecture in which there are not evenly distributed anchor nodes with great ability of communication or additional infrastructure,a Top-down Positioning Scheme(TPS)for underwater acoustic sensor networks is proposed.By defining node’s confidence reasonably,TPS insures the quality of the new reference nodes.TPS also refines the nodes which have just been positioned via the gradient method and helps non-localized nodes search for more reference nodes via the new scheme for 3D Euclidean distance estimation.By comparing the new scheme for 3D Euclidean distance estimation with the existing scheme,the new scheme is shown to have greater ability to estimate two-hop Euclidean distance in 3D space.Simulation results show that TPS which integrates node’s confidence defined reasonably,the gradient method,and the new scheme for 3D Euclidean distance estimation can increase the localization coverage ratio,while keeping the localization error small.ZHANG SenLin ZHANG Qiang LIU MeiQin FAN Zhen 2014Science China(Information Sciences)2014,57,3:4
12Control of chaos in an external-cavity multi-quantum-well laser subjected to dual-wedges and optical dual-feedback显示文摘A multi-parameter chaos-control method used to control chaos in an external cavity multi-quantum-well (MQW) laser via the dual-wedges and external delayed optical dual-feedback is presented. The physical model of the laser dynamic is established under the conditions of the dual-wedges and dual-feedback light control. The frequency detuning and stable ranges of the control system are theoretically demon-strated. The optical-length of the feedback light may be adjusted by shifting horizontally or sliding the dual-wedges relatively in the external optical road, which will alter the delaying time and feedback in-tensity of the dual-feedback light. Accordingly, the multi-parameter chaos-control of the optical dual-feedback may be achieved physically. 13Unstable unsteady aerodynamic modeling based on least squares support vector machines with general excitation显示文摘Common,unsteady aerodynamic modeling methods usually use wind tunnel test data from forced vibration tests to predict stable hysteresis loop.However,these methods ignore the initial unstable process of entering the hysteresis loop that exists in the actual maneuvering process of the aircraft.Here,an excitation input suitable for nonlinear system identification is introduced to model unsteady aerodynamic forces with any motion in the amplitude and frequency ranges based on the Least Squares Support Vector Machines(LS-SVMs).In the selection of the input form,avoiding the use of reduced frequency as a parameter makes the model more universal.After model training is completed,the method is applied to predict the lift coefficient,drag coefficient and pitching moment coefficient of the RAE2822 airfoil,in sine and sweep motions under the conditions of plunging and pitching at Mach number 0.8.The predicted results of the initial unstable process and the final stable process are in close agreement with the Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)data,demonstrating the feasibility of the model for nonlinear unsteady aerodynamics modeling and the effectiveness of the input design approach.Senlin CHEN Zhenghong GAO Xinqi ZHU Yiming DU Chao PANG 2020Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2020,33,10:4
14Effect of dexamethasone on intelligence and hearing in preterm infants: a meta-analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: A meta-analysis of published randomized controlled trials investigating the longterm effect of dexamethasone on the nervous system of preterm infants.DATA SOURCES: Online literature retrieval was conducted using The Cochrane Library(from January 1993 to June 2013), EMBASE(from January 1980 to June 2013), MEDLINE(from January 1963 to June 2013), OVID(from January 1993 to June 2013), Springer(from January 1994 to June 2013) and Chinese Academic Journal Full-text Database(from January 1994 to June 2013). Key words were preterm infants and dexamethasone in English and Chinese.STUDY SELECTION: Selected studies were randomized controlled trials assessing the effect of intravenous dexamethasone in preterm infants. The quality of the included papers was evaluated and those without the development of the nervous system and animal experiments were excluded. Quality assessment was performed through bias risk evaluation in accordance with Cochrane Handbook 5.1.0 software in the Cochrane Collaboration. The homogeneous studies were analyzed and compared using Revman 5.2.6 software, and then effect model was selected and analyzed. Those papers failed to be included in the meta-analysis were subjected to descriptive analysis.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Nervous system injury in preterm infants.RESULTS: Ten randomized controlled trials were screened, involving 1,038 subjects. Among them 512 cases received dexamethasone treatment while 526 cases served as placebo control group and blank control group. Meta-analysis results showed that the incidence of cerebral palsy, visual impairment and hearing loss in preterm infants after dexamethasone treatment within 7 days after birth was similar to that in the control group(RR = 1.47, 95%CI: 0.97–2.21; RR = 1.46, 95%CI: 0.97–2.20; RR = 0.80, 95%CI: 0.54–1.18; P > 0.05), but intelligence quotient was significantly decreased compared with the control group(MD =-3.55, 95%CI:-6.59 to-0.51; P = 0.02). Prete rm infants treated with dexamethasone 7 days after birth demonstrated an incidence of cerebral palsy and visual impairment, and changes in intelligence quotient similar to those in the control group(RR = 1.26, 95%CI: 0.89–1.79; RR = 1.37, 95%CI: 0.73–2.59; RR = 0.53, 95%CI: 0.32–0.89; RR = 1.66, 95%CI:-4.7 to 8.01; P > 0.05). However, the incidence of hearing loss was significantly increased compared with that in the control group(RR = 0.53, 95%CI: 0.32–0.89; P = 0.02).CONCLUSION: Dexamethasone may affect the intelligence of preterm infants in the early stages after birth, but may lead to hearing impairment at later stages after birth. 15Single atom and defect engineering of CuO for efficient electrochemical reduction of CO_(2) to C_(2)H_(4)显示文摘Electrochemical CO_(2) transformation to high‐value ethylene(C_(2)H_(4))at high currents and efficiencies is desired and yet remains a grand challenge.We show for the first time that coupling single Sb atoms and oxygen vacancies of CuO enable synergistic electrocatalytic reduction of CO_(2) to C_(2)H_(4) at low overpotentials.Highly dispersed Sb atoms occupying metal substitutional sites of CuO are synthesized under mild conditions.The overall CO_(2) reduction faradaic efficiency(FE)reaches 89.3±1.1%with an FE toward C_(2)H_(4) exceeding 58.4%at a high‐current density of 500 mA/cm^(2).Addition of the p‐block metal is found to induce transformation of CuO from flakes to nanoribbons rich in nanoholes and oxygen vacancies,greatly enhancing CO_(2) adsorption and activation while suppressing hydrogen evolution.Further density functional theory calculations with in situ X‐ray diffraction reveal that combining Sb sites and oxygen vacancies prominently lessen the dimerization energy of adsorbed CO intermediate,thus boosting the conversion of CO_(2) to produce C_(2)H_(4).This study provides a new perspective for promoting selective C-C coupling for electrochemical CO_(2) reduction.Senlin Chu Changwoo Kang Woonghyeon Park Yu Han Song Hong Leiduan Hao Hao Zhang Tsz Woon Benedict Lo Alex W.Robertson Yousung Jung Buxing Han Zhenyu Sun 2022SmartMat2022,3,1:3

17Dietary L-arginine supplementation reduces lipid accretion by regulating fatty acid metabolism in Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus)显示文摘Background: Excessive white fat accumulation in humans and other animals is associated with the development of multiple metabolic diseases. It is unknown whether dietary L-arginine supplementation reduces lipid deposition in high fat diet-fed Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus).Results: In the present study, we found that dietary supplementation with 1% or 2% arginine decreased the deposition and concentration of fats in the liver;the concentrations of triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein in the serum;and the diameter of adipocytes in intraperitoneal adipose tissue. Compared with the un-supplementation control group, the hepatic activities of alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase, and lactate dehydrogenase, and hepatic concentration of malondialdehyde were reduced but these for catalase and superoxide dismutase were enhanced by dietary supplementation with 2% arginine. Arginine supplementation reduced the total amounts of monounsaturated fatty acids, while increasing the total amounts of n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the liver. These effects of arginine were associated with reductions in mRNA levels for genes related to lipogenesis(sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1, acetyl-CoA carboxylase α, stearoyl-CoA desaturase, and fatty acid synthase) but increases in mRNA levels for genes involved in fatty acid β-oxidation(carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1α and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α). 19Effects of harvesting method and date on yield loss and seed quality of rapeseed显示文摘China is one of the major rapeseed production countries in the world,but harvesting mechanization was still backward,and high harvest loss was a key inhibiting factor for rapeseed production.To obtain optimum harvesting date for winter rape in the Yangtze River Valley of China,artificial simulated combine harvesting and artificial two-stage harvesting were adopted to find correlations between harvesting date,rape variety,seed oil content,protein content,grain moisture rate,rapeseed straw moisture content,rapeseed unthreshing rate,grain drop loss rate,thousand seeds weight(TSW),and harvesting economic coefficient(HEC).Analysis of variance showed that rapeseed oil content,protein content and TSW were correlated with rape variety;HEC was correlated with harvesting method and rape variety.Rape variety was the dominant factor of rapeseed oil content,protein content,TSW and HEC.Grain moisture rate,un-threshing rate,grain drop loss rate and straw moisture content were correlated with harvesting method and date.Harvesting date was the dominant factor of rapeseed moisture rate,un-threshing rate,grain drop loss rate and straw moisture rate.Single factor tests further proved that harvesting date had less impact on rapeseed oil content,protein content,TSW and HEC.It showed little correlation with rapeseed quality except grain moisture rate.The optimum harvesting date could be known by change in straw moisture content.The combined harvesting should be carried out during the grain moisture content of 15%-20%with TSW stabilized in the highest level.The twostage harvesting cutting should be carried out at the grain moisture content of 35%-40%.This research offered a reference to harvesting method and date for rape cultivated in the Yangtze River Valley.Min Zhang Chongyou Wu Mei Jin Senlin Mu Suning Liang Qing Tang 2019Oil Crop Science2019,4,3:3
20Energy-aware routing for delay-sensitive underwater wireless sensor networks显示文摘The energy reduction is a challenging problem in the applications of underwater wireless sensor networks(UWSNs). The embedded battery is difficult to be replaced and it has an upper bound on its lifetime.Multihop relay is a popular method to reduce energy consumption in data transmission. The energy minimum path from source to destination in the sensor networks can be obtained through the shortest path algorithm.However, because of the node mobility, the global path planning approach is not suitable for the routing in UWSNs. It calls for an energy-efficient routing protocol for the high dynamic UWSNs. In this paper, we propose the modified energy weight routing(MEWR) protocol to deal with the energy-efficient routing of delaysensitive UWSNs. MEWR is a low flooding routing protocol. It can tolerate the node mobility in UWSNs and achieve a low end-to-end packet delay. MEWR can provide lower energy consumption than the existing low delay routing protocols through the dynamic sending power adjustment.
