| 1 | Nature-inspired chiral metasurfaces for circular polarization detection and full-Stokes polarimetric measurements显示文摘The manipulation and characterization of light polarization states are essential for many applications in quantum communication and computing,spectroscopy,bioinspired navigation,and imaging.Chiral metamaterials and metasurfaces facilitate ultracompact devices for circularly polarized light generation,manipulation,and detection.Herein,we report bioinspired chiral metasurfaces with both strong chiral optical effects and low insertion loss.We experimentally demonstrated submicron-thick circularly polarized light filters with peak extinction ratios up to 35 and maximum transmission efficiencies close to 80% at near-infrared wavelengths(the best operational wavelengths can be engineered in the range of 1.3-1.6μm).We also monolithically integrated the microscale circular polarization filters with linear polarization filters to perform full-Stokes polarimetric measurements of light with arbitrary polarization states.With the advantages of easy on-chip integration,ultracompact footprints,scalability,and broad wavelength coverage,our designs hold great promise for facilitating chip-integrated polarimeters and polarimetric imaging systems for quantum-based optical computing and information processing,circular dichroism spectroscopy,biomedical diagnosis,and remote sensing applications. | Ali Basiri Xiahui Chen Jing Bai Pouya Amrollahi Joe Carpenter Zachary Holman Chao Wang Yu Yao | 2019 | Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1: | 12 |
| 2 | Efficacy of nanofibrous conduits in repair of longsegment sciatic nerve defects显示文摘Our previous studies have histomorphologically confirmed that nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrateco-3-hydroxyvalerate) conduit can be used to repair 30-mm-long sciatic nerve defects.However,the repair effects on rat behaviors remain poorly understood.In this study,we used nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) conduit and autologous sciatic nerve to bridge 30-mm-long rat sciatic nerve gaps.Within 4 months after surgery,rat sciatic nerve functional recovery was evaluated per month by behavioral analyses,including toe out angle,toe spread analysis,walking track analysis,extensor postural thrust,swimming test,open-field analysis and nociceptive function.Results showed that rat sciatic nerve functional recovery was similar after nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) conduit and autologous nerve grafting.These findings suggest that nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) conduit is suitable in use for repair of long-segment sciatic nerve defects. | Esmaeil Biazar Saeed Heidari Keshel Majid Pouya | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,27: | 3 |
| 3 | The “Colonial Wig” pancreaticojejunostomy:zero leaks with a novel technique for reconstruction after pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘BACKGROUND: Postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF) remains common and morbid after pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD). A major advance in the study of POPF is the fistula risk score(FRS).METHODS: We analyzed 48 consecutive patients undergoing PD. The 'Colonial Wig' pancreaticojejunostomy(CWPJ) technique was used in the last 22 PDs, we compared 22 CWPJ to 26 conventional PDs. RESULTS: Postoperative morbidity was 49%(27% Clavien grade >2). The median length of hospital stay was 11 days. In the first 26 PDs, the PJ was performed according to standard techniques and the clinically relevant POPF(CR-POPF) rate was 15%, similar to the FRS-predicted rate(14%). In the next 22 PJs, the CWPJ was employed. | 7 | Effects of synthesized nanoparticles and Henna-Tragacanth solutions on oil/water interfacial tension:Nanofluids stability considerations显示文摘Rising global energy demand has encouraged engineers to create and design new methods to improve oil recovery from reservoirs.In this study,feasibility of using Henna extract as a natural surfactant and synthesized nanoparticles(Titanium dioxide(TiO2),Silicon dioxide(SiO2),Graphene and composite of TiO2-Graphene)for reduction of oil-water interfacial tension has been experimentally investigated.Nanoparticles were synthesized via sol-gel method and XRD,FESEM,EDAX and FTIR tests were conducted to confirm the authenticity of this synthesizing materials.Nano-surfactants were stabled with a natural water-based suspending surfactant called Tragacanth extract,which could be introduced as a practical substitute for industrial nanoparticles'stabilizers in oil industry.After CMC determination of Henna extract surfactant,the optimal concentration of Tragacanth extract surfactant,with the purpose of nano-surfactants’stabilization,was determined through particle size and zeta potential tests.Results of interfacial tension(IFT)measurements showed that the increase of Henna extract concentration from 0 wt%to 10 wt%reduced IFT between kerosene and water from 37.23 to 15.24 mN/m.Furthermore,adding 1 wt%of synthesized TiO2 nanoparticle to the Henna extract surfactant at its CMC value reduced IFT from 18.43 to 14.57 mN/m.As an impact of this significant reduction in IFT value,oil recovery factor could be improved drastically during EOR operations.Results proved that TiO2 nano-surfactant was as effective as industrial surfactants,which put human's and environment's health at risk and impose heavy economic strain on governments. | Pouya Tavakoli Seyed Reza Shadizadeh Farzan Hayati Moslem Fattahi | 2020 | Petroleum2020,6,3: | 1 |

| 10 | Nanofibrous nerve conduits for repair of 30-mm-long sciatic nerve defects显示文摘It has been confirmed that nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) nerve conduit can promote peripheral nerve regeneration in rats. However, its efficiency in repair of over 30-mm-long sciatic nerve defects needs to be assessed. In this study, we used a nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) nerve conduit to bridge a 30-mm-long gap in the rat sciatic nerve. At 4 months after nerve conduit implantation, regenerated nerves were macroscopically observed and histologically assessed. In the nanofibrous graft, the rat sciatic nerve trunk had been reconstructed by restoration of nerve continuity and formation of myelinated nerve fiber. There were Schwann cells and glial cells in the regenerated nerves. Masson's trichrome staining showed that there were no pathological changes in the size and structure of gastrocnemius muscle cells on the operated side of rats.
