| 1 | Recent advances in diagnostic upper endoscopy显示文摘BACKGROUND Esophageo-gastro-duodenoscopy(EGD)is an important procedure used for detection and diagnosis of esophago-gastric lesions.There exists no consensus on the technique of examination.AIM To identify recent advances in diagnostic EGDs to improve diagnostic yield.METHODS We queried the PubMed database for relevant articles published between January 2001 and August 2019 as well as hand searched references from recently published endoscopy guidelines.Keywords used included free text and MeSH terms addressing quality indicators and technological innovations in EGDs.Factors affecting diagnostic yield and EGD quality were identified and divided into the follow segments:Pre endoscopy preparation,sedation,examination schema,examination time,routine biopsy,image enhanced endoscopy and future developments.RESULTS We identified 120 relevant abstracts of which we utilized 67 of these studies in our review.Adequate pre-endoscopy preparation with simethicone and pronase increases gastric visibility.Proper sedation,especially with propofol,increases patient satisfaction after procedure and may improve detection of superficial gastrointestinal lesions.There is a movement towards mandatory picture documentation during EGD as well as dedicating sufficient time for examination improves diagnostic yield.The use of image enhanced endoscopy and magnifying endoscopy improves detection of squamous cell carcinoma and gastric neoplasm.The magnifying endoscopy simple diagnostic algorithm is useful for diagnosis of early gastric cancer.CONCLUSION There is a steady momentum in the past decade towards improving diagnostic yield,quality and reporting in EGDs.Other interesting innovations,such as Raman spectroscopy,endocytoscopy and artificial intelligence may have widespread endoscopic applications in the near future. | Jun-Liang Teh Asim Shabbir Soon Yuen Jimmy Bok-Yan So | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,4: | 15 |
| 2 | On Density-Based Data Streams Clustering Algorithms: A Survey显示文摘Clustering data streams has drawn lots of attention in the last few years due to their ever-growing presence. Data streams put additional challenges on clustering such as limited time and memory and one pass clustering. Furthermore, discovering clusters with arbitrary shapes is very important in data stream applications. Data streams are infinite and evolving over time, and we do not have any knowledge about the number of clusters. In a data stream environment due to various factors, some noise appears occasionally. Density-based method is a remarkable class in clustering data streams, which has the ability to discover arbitrary shape clusters and to detect noise. Furthermore, it does not need the number of clusters in advance. Due to data stream characteristics, the traditional density-based clustering is not applicable. Recently, a lot of density-based clustering algorithms are extended for data streams. The main idea in these algorithms is using densitybased methods in the clustering process and at the same time overcoming the constraints, which are put out by data stream's nature. The purpose of this paper is to shed light on some algorithms in the literature on density-based clustering over data streams. We not only summarize the main density-based clustering algorithms on data streams, discuss their uniqueness and limitations, but also explain how they address the challenges in clustering data streams. Moreover, we investigate the evaluation metrics used in validating cluster quality and measuring algorithms' performance. | 3 | Elucidation of the ‘Honeycrisp’ pedigree through haplotype analysis with a multi-family integrated SNP linkage map and a large apple (Malus×domestica) pedigree-connected SNP data set显示文摘The apple(Malus×domestica)cultivar Honeycrisp has become important economically and as a breeding parent.An earlier study with SSR markers indicated the original recorded pedigree of‘Honeycrisp’was incorrect and‘Keepsake’was identified as one putative parent,the other being unknown.The objective of this study was to verify‘Keepsake’as a parent and identify and genetically describe the unknown parent and its grandparents.A multi-family based dense and high-quality integrated SNP map was created using the apple 8 K Illumina Infinium SNP array.This map was used alongside a large pedigree-connected data set from the RosBREED project to build extended SNP haplotypes and to identify pedigree relationships.‘Keepsake’was verified as one parent of‘Honeycrisp’and‘Duchess of Oldenburg’and‘Golden Delicious’were identified as grandparents through the unknown parent.Following this finding,siblings of‘Honeycrisp’were identified using the SNP data.Breeding records from several of these siblings suggested that the previously unreported parent is a University of Minnesota selection,MN1627.This selection is no longer available,but now is genetically described through imputed SNP haplotypes.We also present the mosaic grandparental composition of‘Honeycrisp’for each of its 17 chromosome pairs.This new pedigree and genetic information will be useful in future pedigree-based genetic studies to connect‘Honeycrisp’with other cultivars used widely in apple breeding programs.The created SNP linkage map will benefit future research using the data from the Illumina apple 8 and 20 K and Affymetrix 480 K SNP arrays. | Nicholas P Howard Eric van de Weg David S Bedford Cameron P Peace Stijn Vanderzande Matthew D Clark Soon Li Teh Lichun Cai James J Luby | 2017 | Horticulture Research2017,4,1: | 9 |

| 5 | siRNA, miRNA and HIV: promises and challenges显示文摘Small interfering RNA (siRNA) and microRNA (miRNA) are small RNAs of 18-25 nucleotides (nt) in length that play important roles in regulating gene expression. They are incorporated into an RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and serve as guides for silencing their corresponding target mRNAs based on complementary base-pairing. The promise of gene silencing has led many researchers to consider siRNA as an anti-viral tool. However, in long-term settings, many viruses appear to escape from this therapeutical strategy. An example of this may be seen in the case of human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) which is able to evade RNA silencing by either mutating the siRNA- targeted sequence or by encoding for a partial suppressor of RNAi (RNA interference). On the other hand, because miRNA targeting does not require absolute complementarity of base-pairing, mutational escape by viruses from miRNA- specified silencing may be more difficult to achieve. | 6 | Leptin in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘The risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development have been established,and include chronic hepatitis B and C,heavy alcohol consumption,and aflatoxins.In fact,5%-30% of patients with HCC still lack a readily identifiable risk factor.It has been reported that the majority of 'cryptogenic' HCC may be attributed to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease,the hepatic presentation of the metabolic syndrome (MS).Obesity is associated with the development of the MS.Recently,adipose tissue has been considered as an endocrine organ because of its capacity to secrete a variety of cytokines,which are collectively known as the adipokines.Leptin,the product of the obese gene,is mainly produced by adipose tissue.Since leptin was first characterized in 1994,accumulated literature has demonstrated the involvement of this adipokine in several areas of human physiology.After binding to its receptor,leptin initiates a cascade of signaling events and subsequent cellular effects.In addition to being the regulatory mediator of energy homeostasis,several in vitro studies have demonstrated the fibrogenic role of leptin in the liver.Furthermore,the deregulated expression of leptin and its receptor have been demonstrated to be associated with a variety of metabolic disorders as well as human cancers.Most importantly,direct evidence supporting the inhibitory and/or activating role of leptin in the process of carcinogenesis and progression of human HCC has been accumulating rapidly.This review aims to provide important insights into the potential mechanisms of leptin in the development of HCC.Hopefully,further investigations will shed light on a new therapeutic target in HCC. | Shen-Nien Wang King Teh Lee Chen-Guo Ker | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,46: | 7 |
| 7 | Influence of grain size on strength of polymineralic crystalline rock: New insights from DEM grain-based modeling显示文摘Grain size effect on rock strength is a topic of great interest in geotechnical engineering.A consensus obtained from earlier laboratory tests is that rock strength generally decreases with the increase of grain size for both silicate and carbonate rocks;however,some recent numerical results conflict with such laboratory test results.To address this intriguing issue,the effect of grain size on strength of polymineralic crystalline rock with low porosity is investigated numerically using the grain-based modeling(GBM)approach in discrete element method(DEM)by interpreting micro-cracking process in response to loading.In agreement with some previous DEM simulation results,the simulated rock strength is found to increase with increasing grain size for both homogeneous and heterogeneous models,even when the number of assembled disks in one mineral grain changes.The mechanism of strength increase with increasing grain size is mainly associated with the number of assembled smooth-joint contacts along grain interfaces and the generation of grain boundary cracks in response to loading.The grain interfaces significantly weaken the integrity of the rock model,which is similar to effects of inherent defects in real rock.As the grain size increases,fewer grain interfaces are built in the model and the rock strength becomes much higher.Hence,by solely changing the mineral grain size in a model,the mechanism of grain size effect as observed in laboratory tests cannot be replicated.To address this issue,a method of degradation of grain boundary strength parameters is used to mimic the possible mechanism of grain size effect.The simulated strength using the method becomes comparable with those obtained from laboratory tests when the heterogeneity in the rock is considered.Degradation of grain boundary parameters with increasing grain size provides a plausible explanation for the grain size effect on rock strength. | Jun Peng Louis Ngai Yuen Wong Cee Ing Teh | 2021 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,4: | 6 |

Apart from that, PSCs are lightweight, are flexible, and have low production costs. Recently, graphene has been used as a novel material for PSC applications due to its excellent optical, electrical, and mechanical properties. The hydrophobic nature of graphene surface can provide protection against air moisture from the surrounding medium, which can improve the lifetime of devices. Herein, we review recent developments in the use of graphene for PSC applications as a conductive electrode,carrier transporting material, and stabilizer material. | 15 | Two-stage Optimal Dispatching of AC/DC Hybrid Active Distribution Systems Considering Network Flexibility显示文摘The increasing flexibility of active distribution systems(ADSs)coupled with the high penetration of renewable distributed generators(RDGs)leads to the increase of the complexity.It is of practical significance to achieve the largest amount of RDG penetration in ADSs and maintain the optimal operation.This study establishes an alternating current(AC)/direct current(DC)hybrid ADS model that considers the dynamic thermal rating,soft open point,and distribution network reconfiguration(DNR).Moreover,it transforms the optimal dispatching into a second-order cone programming problem.Considering the different control time scales of dispatchable resources,the following two-stage dispatching framework is proposed.d dispatch uses hourly input data with the goal(1)The day-ahea of minimizing the grid loss and RDG dropout.It obtains the optimal 24-hour schedule to determine the dispatching plans for DNR and the energy storage system.(2)The intraday dispatch uses 15-min input data for 1-hour rolling-plan dispatch but only executes the first 15 min of dispatching.To eliminate error between the actual operation and dispatching plan,the first 15 min is divided into three 5-min step-by-step executions.The goal of each step is to trace the tie-line power of the intraday rolling-plan dispatch to the greatest extent at the minimum cost.The measured data are used as feedback input for the rolling-plan dispatch after each step is executed.A case study shows that the comprehensive cooperative ADS model can release the line capacity,reduce losses,and improve the penetration rate of RDGs.Further,the two-stage dispatching framework can handle source-load fluctuations and enhance system stability. | Yi Su Jiashen Teh | 2023 | Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2023,11,1: | 3 |
