1Experimental determination of gas holdup and volumetric mass transfer coefficient in a jet bubbling reactor显示文摘The hydrodynamics and mass transfer characteristics of a lab-scale jet bubbling reactor(JBR)including the gas holdup, volumetric mass transfer coefficient and specific interfacial area were assessed experimentally investigating the influence of temperature,pH and superficial gas velocity. The reactor diameter and height were 11 and 30 cm,respectively. It was equipped with a single sparger, operating at atmospheric pressure,20 and 40℃,and two pH values of 3 and 6.The height of the liquid was 23 cm,while the superficial gas velocity changed within 0.010-0.040 m·s^(-1)range.Experiments were conducted with pure oxygen as the gas phase and saturated lime solution as the liquid phase. The liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficient was determined under unsteady-state oxygen absorption in a saturated lime solution. The gas holdup was calculated based on the liquid height change, while the specific interfacial area was obtained by a physical method based on the bubble size distribution(BSD)in different superficial gas velocities. The results indicated that at the same temperature but different pH,the gas holdup variation was negligible, while the liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficient at the pH value of 6 was higher than that at the pH=3.At a constant pH but different temperatures, the gas holdup and the liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficients at 40℃were higher than that of the same at 20℃.A reasonable and appropriate estimation of the liquid-side volumetric mass transfer coefficient(kla)in a pilot-scale JBR was provided which can be applied to the design and scale-up of JBRs.Mostafa Abbasian-arani Mohammad Sadegh Hatamipour Amir Rahimi 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,6:2

7Parametric study of droplet size in an axisymmetric flow-focusing capillary device显示文摘A conventional technique for microfluidic droplet generation is Co-axial Flow Focusing(CFF)in which a contraction zone is placed downstream of the dispersed phase nozzle. In this contraction zone, the dispersed-phase(dphase)fluid is pinched off by continuous-phase(c-phase)fluid to generate micro-droplets.Studying the influence of multiple parameters such as the fluids velocities and viscosities, the interfacial tension, and nozzle and orifice diameters on the droplet size is of great importance for the design and application of CFF devices. Thus, development of more complete numerical models is required. In this paper,we show our model is compatible with experimental data and then numerically investigate the effects of aforementioned parameters on the droplet generation in a CFF microfluidic device.Simulation results showed that the c-phase flow rate, viscosity and the interfacial tension had great impacts on the droplet size. The effect of the nozzle diameter on the generated droplet size was small compared to that of the orifice in a CFF device.Using the simulation results,a correlation was also developed and suggested which predicts the droplet size with less than 15%error in a wide range of the introduced dimensionless parameters.Mostafa Rahimi Sajad Yazdanparast Pouya Rezai 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,4:1
8The global and regional prevalence of hepatitis C and B co-infections among prisoners living with HIV:a systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background Hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)infections are common among individuals with human immune deficiency virus(HIV)infection worldwide. In this study,we did a systematic review and meta-analysis of the published literature to estimate the global and regional prevalence of HCV,HBV and HIV coinfections among HIV-positive prisoners. Methods We searched PubMed via MEDLINE,Embase, the Cochrane Library,SCOPUS,and Web of science(ISI)to identify studies that reported the prevalence of HBV and HCV among prisoners living with HIV.We used an eight-item checklist for critically appraisal studies of prevalence/incidence of a health problem to assess the quality of publications in the included 48 cross-sectional and 4 cohort studies. We used random-effect models and meta-regression for the meta-analysis of the results of the included studies. Results The number of the included studies were 50 for HCV-HIV,and 23 for HBV-HIV co-infections.The pooled prevalence rates of the coinfections were 12%[95%confidence interval(CI)9.0–16.0]for HBV-HIV and 62%(95%CI 53.0–71.0)for HCV-HIV.Among HIV-positive prisoners who reported drug injection, the prevalence of HBV increased to 15%(95%CI 5.0–23.0),and the HCV prevalence increased to 78%(95%CI 51.0–100).The prevalence of HBV-HIV coinfection among prisoners ranged from 3%in the East Mediterranean region to 27%in the American region. Also, the prevalence of HCV-HIV coinfections among prisoners ranged from 6%in Europe to 98%in the East Mediterranean regions. Conclusions Our findings suggested that the high prevalence of HBV and HCV co-infection among HIV-positive prisoners, particularly among those with a history of drug injection, varies significantly across the globe. The results of Meta-regression analysis showed a sliding increase in the prevalence of the studied co-infections among prisoners over the past decades, rising a call for better screening and treatment programs targeting this high-risk population. To prevent the above coinfections among prisoners, aimed public health services(e.g.harm reduction via access to clean needles),human rights, equity, and ethics are to be seriously delivered or practiced in prisons.Hasan Ahmadi Gharaei Mohammad Fararouei Ali Mirzazadeh Golnaz Sharifnia Marzieh Rohani-Rasaf Dariush Bastam Jamileh Rahimi Mostafa kouhestani Shahab Rezaian Mostafa Dianatinasab 2021Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,4:1

15Infectious causes of fever of unknown origin in developing countries: An international ID-IRI study显示文摘Background:Fever of unknown origin(FUO)in developing countries is an important dilemma and further research is needed to elucidate the infectious causes of FUO.Methods:A multi-center study for infectious causes of FUO in lower middle-income countries(LMIC)and lowincome countries(LIC)was conducted between January 1,2018 and January 1,2023.In total,15 participating centers from seven different countries provided the data, which were collected through the Infectious DiseasesInternational Research Initiative platform.Only adult patients with confirmed infection as the cause of FUO were included in the study. The severity parameters were quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(qSOFA)≥2,intensive care unit(ICU)admission, vasopressor use,and invasive mechanical ventilation(IMV).Results:A total of 160 patients with infectious FUO were included in the study.Overall,148(92.5%)patients had community-acquired infections and 12(7.5%)had hospital-acquired infections. The most common infectious syndromes were tuberculosis(TB)(n=27,16.9%),infective endocarditis(n=25,15.6%),malaria(n=21,13.1%),brucellosis(n=15,9.4%),and typhoid fever(n=9,5.6%).Plasmodium falciparum,Mycobacterium tuberculosis,Brucellae,Staphylococcus aureus,Salmonella typhi, and Rickettsiae were the leading infectious agents in this study.A total of 56(35.0%)cases had invasive procedures for diagnosis. The mean qSOFA score was 0.76±0.94{median(interquartile range[IQR]):0(0–1)}.ICU admission(n=26,16.2%),vasopressor use(n=14,8.8%),and IMV(n=10,6.3%)were not rare.Overall,38(23.8%)patients had at least one of the severity parameters. The mortality rate was 15(9.4%),and the mortality was attributable to the infection causing FUO in 12(7.5%)patients.Conclusions:In LMIC and LIC,tuberculosis and cardiac infections were the most severe and the leading infections causing FUO.Hakan Erdem Jaffar AAl-Tawfiq Maha Abid Wissal Ben Yahia George Akafity Manar Ezzelarab Ramadan Fatma Amer Amani El-Kholy Atousa Hakamifard Bilal Ahmad Rahimi Farouq Dayyab Hulya Caskurlu Reham Khedr Muhammad Tahir Lysien Zambrano Mumtaz Ali Khan Aun Raza Nagwa Mostafa El-Sayed Magdalena Baymakova Aysun Yalci Yasemin Cag Umran Elbahr Aamer Ikram 2024Journal of Intensive Medicine2024,4,1:0
16Evaluation of Landsat 8 image pansharpening in estimating soil organic matter using multiple linear regression and artificial neural networks显示文摘In agricultural systems, the regular monitoring of Soil Organic Matter(SOM)dynamics is essential. This task is costly and time-consuming when using the conventional method, especially in a very fragmented area and with intensive agricultural activity, such as the area of Sidi Bennour. The study area is located in the Doukkala irrigated perimeter in Morocco.Satellite data can provide an alternative and fill this gap at a low cost.Models to predict SOM from a satellite image, whether linear or nonlinear, have shown considerable interest. This study aims to compare SOM prediction using Multiple Linear Regression(MLR)and Artificial Neural Networks(ANN).A total of 368 points were collected at a depth of 0-30 cm and analyzed in the laboratory. An image at 15 m resolution(MSPAN)was produced from a 30 m resolution(MS)Landsat-8 image using image pansharpening processing and panchromatic band(15 m).The results obtained show that the MLR models predicted the SOM with(training/validation)R^(2)values of 0.62/0.63 and 0.64/0.65 and RMSE values of 0.23/0.22 and 0.22/0.21 for the MS and MSPAN images, respectively. In contrast, the ANN models predicted SOM with R2 values of 0.65/0.66 and 0.69/0.71 and RMSE values of 0.22/0.10 and 0.21/0.18 for the MS and MSPAN images, respectively.Image pansharpening improved the prediction accuracy by 2.60%and 4.30%and reduced the estimation error by 0.80%and 1.30%for the MLR and ANN models, respectively.Abdelkrim Bouasria Khalid Ibno Namr Abdelmejid Rahimi El Mostafa Ettachfini Badr Rerhou 2022Geo-Spatial Information Science2022,25,3:0
