1Bioactive polymeric materials and electrical stimulation strategies for musculoskeletal tissue repair and regeneration显示文摘Electrical stimulation(ES)is predominantly used as a physical therapy modality to promote tissue healing and functional recovery.Research efforts in both laboratory and clinical settings have shown the beneficial effects of this technique for the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues,which include muscle,bone,skin,nerve,tendons,and ligaments.The collective findings of these studies suggest ES enhances cell proliferation,extracellular matrix(ECM)production,secretion of several cytokines,and vasculature development leading to better tissue regeneration in multiple tissues.However,there is still a gap in the clinical relevance for ES to better repair tissue interfaces,as ES applied clinically is ineffective on deeper tissue.The use of a conducting material can transmit the stimulation applied from skin electrodes to the desired tissue and lead to an increased function on the repair of that tissue.Ionically conductive(IC)polymeric scaffolds in conjunction with ES may provide solutions to utilize this approach effectively.Injectable IC formulations and their scaffolds may provide solutions for applying ES into difficult to reach tissue types to enable tissue repair and regeneration.A better understanding of ES-mediated cell differentiation and associated molecular mechanisms including the immune response will allow standardization of procedures applicable for the next generation of regenerative medicine.ES,along with the use of IC scaffolds is more than sufficient for use as a treatment option for single tissue healing and may fulfill a role in interfacing multiple tissue types during the repair process.Bryan Ferrigno Rosalie Bordett Nithyadevi Duraisamy Joshua Moskow Michael R.Arul Swetha Rudraiah Syam P.Nukavarapu Anthony T.Vella Sangamesh G.Kumbar 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,3:8

3Helicobacter pylori infection and gastropathy:A comparison between Indonesian and Japanese patients显示文摘AIM:To compare the effects of Helicobacter pylori(H pylori) infection on gastropathy between Indonesian and Japanese patients.METHODS:Biopsy specimens were obtained during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy from 167 subjects(125 Indonesians and 42 Japanese) with uninvestigated symptoms of dyspepsia.The specimens were analyzed for the presence of H pylori using urease analysis,histopathology,and cell culture.The grade and activity of gastritis was assessed using the updated Sydney system.RESULTS:The percentages of Indonesian and Japanese patients who were H pylori-positive at the antrum or body of the stomach were similar(68% and 59.5%,respectively;P=0.316).Of those who were H pylori-positive,more Japanese patients than Indonesian patients had high levels of polymorphonuclear cells(P=0.001),mononuclear cells(P=0.013),glandular atrophy(P=0.000),and intestinal metaplasia(P=0.011) in both the antrum and body of the stomach.CONCLUSION:The grade of gastritis and prevalence of mucosal atrophy and intestinal metaplasia were higher in Japanese patients.The difference between Indonesian and Japanese patients was signifi cant.Murdani Abdullah Hiroyuki Ohtsuka Abdul Aziz Rani Tadashi Sato Ari F Syam Masayuki A Fujino 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,39:2
4Modification of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch and Sugarcane Bagasse Biomass as Potential Reinforcement for Composites Panel and Thermal Insulation Materials显示文摘This paper focuses on the study of the effect of modification of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch(OPEFB)and sugarcane bagasse(SCB)biomass as potential reinforcement for composites panel and thermal insulation.Both fibres were treated with three types of chemicals:2%silane,4%H2O2 and 4%H2O2-2%silane for 3 h.The influence of modified fibres content in composites was examined by structural changes using image analyser,Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),tensile,interracial shear strength(IFSS)and thermal characteristic.The diameter of both fibres was reduced after treatment and showed decreasing of lignin and hemi-cellulose in fibre.Tensile strength has been increased by 2%silane treatment for both fibres and 4%H2O2 treatment displays higher result for IFSS.Thermal properties of treated SCB fibre with silane display higher residual content and better thermal stability.SEM charac-terization showed that 2%silane treatment removed silica bodies of OPEFB fibre while 4%H2O2 treatment uniformly filled porosity of SCB fibre.Finally,results revealed that treated OPEFB fibre is enough to improve compatibility and mechanical properties,while treated SCB fibre was effective in thermal stability for fabrication of composite materials.Nor Azlina Ramlee Mohammad Jawaid Edi Syams Zainudin Shaikh Abdul Karim Yamani 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,1:2
