1Colon mucosal neoplasia referred for endoscopic mucosal resection:Recurrence of adenomas and prediction of submucosal invasion显示文摘BACKGROUND Endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)is an effective and minimally invasive alternative to surgery for large polyps and laterally spreading lesions.Gross morphology and surface characteristics may help predict submucosal invasion of the lesion(SMIL)during endoscopic evaluation.This is one of the largest singlecenter studies reporting endoscopic mucosal resection for larger(≥20 mm)colorectal lesions in the United States.AIM To determine the recurrence rate of adenomas and endoscopic features that may predict submucosal invasion of colonic mucosal neoplasia.METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study of all the patients referred for endoscopic mucosal resection for lesions≥20 mm,spanning a period from January 2013 to February 2017.The main outcome measure was identifying features that may predict submucosal invasion of mucosal lesions and predict recurrence of adenomas on follow-up surveillance colonoscopy performed at 4-6 mo.RESULTS A total of 480 patients with 500 lesions were included in the study.The median age was 68(Inter quantile range:14)with 52%males.The most common lesion location was ascending colon(161;32%).Paris classification 0-IIa(Flat elevation of mucosa-316;63.2%);Kudo Pit Pattern IIIs(192;38%)and Granular surface morphology(260;52%)were most prevalent.Submucosal invasion was present in 23(4.6%)out of 500 lesions.The independent risk factors for SMIL were Kudo Pit Pattern IIIL+IV and V(Odds ratio:4.5;P value<0.004)and Paris classification 0-IIc(Odds ratio:18.2;P value<0.01).Out of 500,354 post-endoscopic mucosal resection scars were examined at surveillance colonoscopy.Recurrence was noted in 21.8%(77 cases).CONCLUSION There was overall low prevalence of SMIL in our study.Kudo pit pattern(IIIL+IV and V)and Paris classification 0-IIc were the only factors identified as an independent risk factor for submucosal invasion.The independent risk factor for recurrence was adenoma size(>40 mm).Almost all recurrences(98.8%)were treated endoscopically.Mamoon Ur Rashid Neelam Khetpal Hammad Zafar Saeed Ali Evgeny Idrisov Yuan Du Assaf Stein Deepanshu Jain Muhammad Khalid Hasan 2020World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2020,12,7:3
2Microfacies and Depositional Environments of Miocene Isolated Carbonate Platforms from Central Luconia, Offshore Sarawak, Malaysia显示文摘The Luconia Province-offshore Sarawak-is a key geological unit for understanding the distribution of hydrocarbon resources in Malaysia. Nevertheless, little effort has been made to address the palaeoenvironmental characteristics of the Tertiary carbonates in the key sector of Central Luconia.We study the sedimentology and petrography of core samples from a well in Central Luconia, for which thirteen microfacies have been identified reflecting different depositional settings. This is the first microfacies scheme elaborated for Luconian carbonates. Lithofacies and microfacies distribution are compatible with deposition in a reef complex, originating around a framework reef, within the euphotic zone. Sediments were deposited in environments of backreef, reef crest, and forereef. The fair weather wave base is marked by the presence of coralline red algae, foraminifera, decreasing degree of bioclast fragmentation and other microfacies features. As a result, a depositional-environmental model is constructed, depicting a reef complex built around a framework reef developed on the margin of an isolated platform. 3Digestive system involvement and clinical outcomes among COVID-19 patients:A retrospective cohort study from Qatar显示文摘BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus most commonly presents with respiratory symptoms.While gastrointestinal(GI)manifestations either at presentation or during hospitalization are also common,their impact on clinical outcomes is controversial.Some studies have described worse outcomes in COVID-19 patients with GI symptoms,while others have shown either no association or a protective effect.There is a need for consistent standards to describe GI symptoms in COVID-19 patients and to assess their effect on clinical outcomes,including mortality and disease severity.AIM To investigate the prevalence of GI symptoms in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and their correlation with disease severity and clinical outcomes.METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 601 consecutive adult COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization between May 1-15,2020.GI symptoms were recorded at admission and during hospitalization.Demographic,clinical,laboratory,and treatment data were retrieved.Clinical outcomes included all-cause mortality,disease severity at presentation,need for intensive care unit(ICU)admission,development of acute respiratory distress syndrome,and need for mechanical ventilation.Multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify independent predictors of the adverse outcomes.RESULTS The prevalence of any GI symptom at admission was 27.1%and during hospitalization was 19.8%.The most common symptoms were nausea(98 patients),diarrhea(76 patients),vomiting(73 patients),and epigastric pain or discomfort(69 patients).There was no difference in the mortality between the two groups(6.21%vs 5.5%,P=0.7).Patients with GI symptoms were more likely to have severe disease at presentation(33.13%vs 22.5%,P<0.001)and prolonged hospital stay(15 d vs 14 d,P=0.04).There was no difference in other clinical outcomes,including ICU admission,development of acute respiratory distress syndrome,or need for mechanical ventilation.Drugs associated with the development of GI symptoms during hospitalization were ribavirin(diarrhea 26.37%P<0.001,anorexia 17.58%,P=0.02),hydroxychloroquine(vomiting 28.52%,P=0.009)and lopinavir/ritonavir(nausea 32.65%P=0.049,vomiting 31.47%P=0.004,and epigastric pain 12.65%P=0.048).In the multivariate regression analysis,age>65 years was associated with increased mortality risk[odds ratio(OR)7.53,confidence interval(CI):3.09-18.29,P<0.001],ICU admission(OR:1.79,CI:1.13-2.83,P=0.012),and need for mechanical ventilation(OR:1.89,CI:1.94-2.99,P=0.007).Hypertension was an independent risk factor for ICU admission(OR:1.82,CI:1.17-2.84,P=0.008)and need for mechanical ventilation(OR:1.66,CI:1.05-2.62,P=0.028).CONCLUSION Patients with GI symptoms are more likely to have severe disease at presentation;however,mortality and disease progression is not different between the two groups.Muhammad Umair Khan Kamran Mushtaq Deema Hussam Alsoub Phool Iqbal Fateen Ata Hammad Shabir Chaudhry Fatima Iqbal Girisha Balaraju Muna A Al Maslamani Betsy Varughese Rajvir Singh Khalid Al Ejji Saad Al Kaabi Yasser Medhat Kamel Adeel Ajwad Butt 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,46:1

11Home Automation-Based Health Assessment Along Gesture Recognition via Inertial Sensors显示文摘Hand gesture recognition (HGR) is used in a numerous applications,including medical health-care, industrial purpose and sports detection.We have developed a real-time hand gesture recognition system using inertialsensors for the smart home application. Developing such a model facilitatesthe medical health field (elders or disabled ones). Home automation has alsobeen proven to be a tremendous benefit for the elderly and disabled. Residentsare admitted to smart homes for comfort, luxury, improved quality of life,and protection against intrusion and burglars. This paper proposes a novelsystem that uses principal component analysis, linear discrimination analysisfeature extraction, and random forest as a classifier to improveHGRaccuracy.We have achieved an accuracy of 94% over the publicly benchmarked HGRdataset. 13Evaluation of state and community/private forests in Punjab, Pakistan using geospatial data and related techniques显示文摘Background: Forests are fundamental in maintaining water supplies, providing economic goods, mitigating climate change, and maintaining biodiversity, thus providing many of the world's poorest with income, food and medicine.Too often, forested lands are treated as 'wastelands' or 'free' and are easily cleared for agricultural and infrastructure expansion.Methods: In this paper, the sustainability of two forest ecosystems(state and community/private owned) was evaluated using SPOT-5 satellite images of 2005 and 2011. This study was conducted in a sub-watershed area covering 468 km2, of which 201 km2 is managed by the state and 267 km2 by community/private ownership in the Murree Galliat region of Punjab Province of Pakistan. A participatory approach was adopted for the delineation and demarcation of forest boundaries. The Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis(GEOBIA) technique was used for identification and mapping of ten Land Cover(LC) features.Results: The results show that between the years 2005 to 2011, a total of 55 km2(24 km2 in state-owned forest and 31km2 in community/private forest) was converted from forest to non-forest. 14Gamma irradiation-induced effects on the properties of TiO_2 on fluorine-doped tin oxide prepared by atomic layer deposition显示文摘The effect of gamma irradiation with different doses(25–75 kGy) on TiO_2 thin films deposited by atomic layer deposition has been studied and characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),photoluminescence measurements,ultraviolet–visible(UV–Vis) spectroscopy,and impedance measurements.The XRD results for the TiO_2 films indicate an enhancement of crystallization after irradiation,which can be clearly observed from the increase in the peak intensities upon increasing the gamma irradiation doses.The UV–Vis spectra demonstrate a decrease in transmittance,and the band gap of the TiO_2 thin films decreases with an increase in the gamma irradiation doses.The Nyquist plots reveal that the overall charge-transfer resistance increases upon increasing the gamma irradiation doses.The equivalent circuit,series resistance,contact resistance,and interface capacitance are measured by simulation using Z-view software.The present work demonstrates that gamma irradiation-induced defects play a major role in the modification of thestructural,electrical,and optical properties of the TiO_2 thin films.Syed Mansoor Ali M.S.Algarawi Turki S.ALKhuraiji S.S.Alghamdi Muhammad Hammad Aziz M.Isa 2018Nuclear Science and Techniques2018,29,7:0
15Smart Dynamic Trafc Monitoring and Enforcement Syste显示文摘Enforcement of trafc rules and regulations involves a wide range of complex tasks,many of which demand the use of modern technologies.variable speed limits(VSL)control is to change the current speed limit according to the current trafc situation based on the observed trafc conditions.The aim of this study is to provide a simulation-based methodological framework to evaluate(VSL)as an effective Intelligent Transportation System(ITS)enforcement system.The focus of the study is on measuring the effectiveness of the dynamic trafc control strategy on trafc performance and safety considering various performance indicators such as total travel time,average delay,and average number of stops.United Arab Emirates(UAE)was selected as a case study to evaluate the effectiveness of this strategy.A micro simulation software package VISSIM with add-on module VisVAP is used to evaluate the impacts of VSL.It has been observed that VSL control strategy reduced the average delay time per vehicle to around 7%,travel time by 3.2%,and number of stops by 48.5%.Dynamic trafc control strategies also alleviated congestion by increasing the capacity of the bottleneck section and improving safety.Results of this study would act as a guidance for engineers and decision makers to new trafc control system implementation.Youssef El-Hansali Fatma Outay Ansar Yasar Siham Farrag Muhammad Shoaib Muhammad Imran Hammad Hussain Awan 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,6:0

17Multiscale engineering of microbial cell factories: A step forward towards sustainable natural products industry显示文摘Microbial cell factories(bacteria and fungi)are the leading producers of beneficial natural products such as lycopene,carotene,herbal medicine,and biodiesel etc.These microorganisms are considered efficient due to their effective bioprocessing strategy(monoculture-and consortial-based approach)under distinct processing conditions.Meanwhile,the advancement in genetic and process optimization techniques leads to enhanced biosynthesis of natural products that are known functional ingredients with numerous applications in the food,cosmetic and medical industries.Natural consortia and monoculture thrive in nature in a small proportion,such as wastewater,food products,and soils.In similitude to natural consortia,it is possible to engineer artificial microbial consortia and program their behaviours via synthetic biology tools.Therefore,this review summarizes the optimization of genetic and physicochemical parameters of the microbial system for improved production of natural products.Also,this review presents a brief history of natural consortium and describes the functional properties of monocultures.This review focuses on synthetic biology tools that enable new approaches to design synthetic consortia;and highlights the syntropic interactions that determine the performance and stability of synthetic consortia.In particular,the effect of processing conditions and advanced genetic techniques to improve the productibility of both monoculture and consortial based systems have been greatly emphasized.In this context,possible strategies are also discussed to give an insight into microbial engineering for improved pro-duction of natural products in the future.In summary,it is concluded that the coupling of genomic modifications with optimum physicochemical factors would be promising for producing a robust microbial cell factory that shall contribute to the increased production of natural products.Muhammad Hammad Hussain Muhammad Zubair Mohsin Waqas Qamar Zaman Junxiong Yu Xueli Zhao Yanlong Wei Yingping Zhuang Ali Mohsin Meijin Guo 2022Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2022,7,1:0
18Improvement in Sensing Accuracy of an OFDM-Based W-Band System显示文摘Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform is promising to converge communications and sensing functionalities for future wireless applications. This paper presents a novel method to improve the OFDM-based sensing accuracy by estimating the delay/Doppler leakages in the channel matrix, which is constructed by the received and the transmitted OFDM symbols. 20Bioactivity of Indigenous Melia azedarach Extracts against the Tomato Leafminer,Tuta absoluta显示文摘Fruit extracts of indigenous Melia azedarach were tested for their insecticidal bioactivity against the tomato leafminer(Tuta absoluta)under laboratory conditions.Tomato plants were exposed to moths,after/before application of treatments.Treatments included:crushed fruit extracts of water(500,000 ppm and 200,000 ppm),methanol and ethyl acetate(200,000 ppm)with and without mineral oil(2%);M.azedarach powder extracts(2,000 ppm)in different solvents:water,methanol,ethanol,ethyl acetate,hexane and chloroform;biorational products:neem oil,mineral oil,micronized sulfur and thyme oil.The released moths were removed from treated/untreated plants at 72 h and effect of treatments on adults,eggs,larvae and pupae were recorded.Results indicated that sulfur caused the lowest number of live moths to be present on treated plants and was not significantly different in its effect from that of M.azedarach extracts and neem oil.Aqueous extracts without and with oil caused the highest%of dry eggs and were comparable to neem oil.Extracts in the two formulations(crushed fruits and/or powder)caused significant direct effects on immature instars:eggs,early larval instars and pupae.M.azedarach extracts and the tested products also caused indirect effect in form of significant decrease in number of developing the 3rd larval instars and new emerging moths compared to the control.Consecutive sprays of these extracts against eggs,larvae and pupae on same treated plants lead to very low number of moths for a second generation of the pest which contributes to low buildup of pest population in a tomato crop.Efat Abou-Fakhr Hammad Amani Abbass Muhammad Abbass Zaynab Mohamad Haidar Josiane El-Chemali Youssef Abou Jawdeh Ludmilla Ibrahim 2019Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology(A)2019,9,1:0
