2Parametric instability of a liquid metal sessile drop under the action of low-frequency alternating magnetic fields显示文摘A 2-D mathematical model is developed in order to simulate a parametric electromagnetic instability oscillation process of a liquid metal droplet under the action of low frequency magnetic field. The Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method and weak form constraint boundary condition are introduced in this model for implementation of the surface tension and electromagnetic force on liquid droplet free surface. The results of the numerical calculations indicate the appearance of various regimes of oscillation. It is found that according to the magnetic field frequency various types of oscillation modes may be found. The oscillation is originated from an instability phenomenon. The stability diagram of liquid metal droplet in the parameter space of magnetic frequency and magnetic flux density is determined numerically. 3IL-1β limits the extent of human 6-sulfo LacNAc dendritic cell (slanDC)-mediated NK cell activation and regulates CD95-induced apoptosis显示文摘To function optimally,human blood natural killer(NK)cells need to communicate with other immune cells.Previously,it has been shown that NK cells communicate with 6-sulfo LacNAc dendritic cells(slanDCs),which are able to stimulate NK cells in vitro.In this study,we investigated how slanDCs regulate the level of NK cell activation.The secretion of interleukin(IL)-1βby slanDCs during coculture with NK cells increased as a result of signaling via intercellular adhesion molecule-1 on slanDCs following its interaction with lymphocyte functionassociated antigen-1 on NK cells.IL-1βinduced the expression of Fas receptor(CD95)on NK cells.The binding of Fas ligand(CD178)to CD95 induced the apoptosis of activated NK cells.Moreover,IL-1βalso induced increased cyclooxygenase-2 expression in slanDCs,which in turn enabled the cells to secrete prostaglandin(PG)-E2.Consequently,PGE2 acted as a suppressing agent,tuning down the activation level of NK cells.In summary,IL-1βlimits the level of NK cell activation by inducing apoptosis and suppression as a homeostatic regulatory function.Dejene Milkessa Tufa Fareed Ahmad Debanjana Chatterjee Gerrit Ahrenstorf Reinhold Ernst Schmidt Roland Jacobs 2017Cellular & Molecular Immunology2017,14,12:2

14E-selectin ligand complexes adopt an extended high-affinity conformation显示文摘E-selectin is a cell-adhesion molecule of the vascular endothelium that promotes essential leukocyte rolling in the early inflammatory response by binding to glycoproteins containing the tetrasaccharide sialyl Lewisx(sLex).Efficient leukocyte recruitment under vascular flow conditions depends on an increased lifetime of E-selectin/ligand complexes under tensile force in a so-called catch-bond binding mode.Co-crystal structures of a representative fragment of the extracellular E-selectin region with sLex and a glycomimetic antagonist thereof reveal an extended E-selectin conformation,which is identified as a high-affinity binding state of E-selectin by molecular dynamics simulations.Small-angle X-ray scattering experiments demonstrate a direct link between ligand binding and E-selectin conformational transition under static conditions in solution.This permits tracing a series of concerted structural changes connecting ligand binding to conformational stretching as the structural basis of E-selectin catch-bond-mediated leukocyte recruitment.The detailed molecular view of the binding site paves the way for the design of a new generation of selectin antagonists.This is of special interest,since their therapeutic potentialwas recently demonstrated with the pan-selectin antagonists GMI-1070(Rivipansel).Roland C.Preston Roman P.Jakob Florian P.C.Binder Christoph P.Sager Beat Ernst Timm Maier 2016Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2016,8,1:0
15A Double-Phase High-Frequency Traveling Magnetic Field Developed for Contactless Stirring of Low-Conducting Liquid Materials显示文摘The use of low electrically conducting liquids is more and more widespread.This is the case for molten glass,salt or slag processing,ionic liquids used in biotechnology,batteries in energy storage and metallurgy.The present paper deals with the design of a new electromagnetic induction device that can heat and stir low electricallyconducting liquids.It consists of a resistance-capacity-inductance circuit coupled with a low-conducting liquid load.The device is supplied by a unique electric power source delivering a single-phase high frequency electric current.The main working principle of the circuit is based on a double oscillating circuit inductor connected to the solid-state transistor generator.This technique,which yields a set of coupled oscillating circuits,consists of coupling a forced phase and an induced phase,neglecting the influence of the electric parameters of the loading part(i.e.,the low-conductivity liquid).It is shown that such an inductor is capable to provide a two-phase AC traveling magnetic field at high frequency.To better understand the working principle,the present work improves a previous existing simplified theory by taking into account a complex electrical equivalent diagram due to the different mutual couplings between the two inductors and the two corresponding induced current sets.A more detailed theoretical model is provided,and the key and sensitive elements are elaborated.Based on this theory,equipment is designed to provide a stirring effect on sodium chloride-salted water at 40 S/m.It is shown that such a device fed by several hundred kiloHertz electric currents is able to mimic a linear motor.A set of optimized operating parameters are proposed to guide the experiment.A pure electromagnetic numerical model is presented.Numerical modelling of the load is performed in order to assess the efficiency of the stirrer with a salt water load.Such a device can generate a significant liquid motion with both controlled flow patterns and adjustable amplitude.Based on the magnetohydrodynamic theory,numerical modeling of the salt water flow generated by the stirrer confirms its feasibility.Xiaodong Wang Ernst Roland Fautrelle Yves 2021Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2021,,5:0
