| 7 | Fluoride-induced Early Teeth Wearing in Argentinian Cattle显示文摘The relationship between observed early teeth wearing in cattle and the existence of large areas where excess nuoride in underground water prevails in Argentina, but has never been studied. Average values of bone fluoride exceeding 5000 ppm and well water containing up to 10.5 ppm of this element were found in a farm (ETWF) where early teeth wearing is observed, while in a control farm (NETWF), those values were 1480 ppm and 3.0 ppm respectively. Urine samples from animals from the ETWF contained almost 4 times more fluoride than those from the latter.Forage in both farms contained about the same levels of fluoride (15 to 25 ppm). None of the farms was exPosed to industrial, volcanic, or geothermal activity. Lactating and adult animals were transferred from one farm to the other. After 30 months, adult animals from the NETWF showed no damage in teeth, while adults from the ETWF continued a rapid teeth wearing. Young animals from the NETWF developed severely damaged permanent teeth, while young animals from the ETWF developed normal teeth. We concluded that the problem exists in the ETWF and being a standard farm, the condition could be extrapolated to other | TOMAS A. LOPEZ MARGARITA R. BUSETTI MARCELO C. FORT AND DANIEL O. | 9 | Links between donor macrosteatosis,interleukin-33 and complement after liver transplantation显示文摘BACKGROUND As prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease increases in the population, livers with steatosis will continue to infiltrate the donor pool.Safe utilization of these extended criteria grafts is paramount given the increased risk associated with their use in transplantation.Prognostic factors that can predict liver dysfunction immediately after transplantation with macrosteatotic grafts are lacking.AIM To understand the relationship between interleukin-33(IL-33)and complement in recipients immediately following liver reperfusion as a marker of liver dysfunction.METHODS Cohort consisted of patients who received a liver transplant from September 2016–September 2019 at our institution.Clinical variables were retrospectively extracted from the electronic medical record.Back-table donor biopsies were obtained with donor steatosis percentage retrospectively determined by a boardcertified pathologist.Blood samples were available immediately following liver transplantation.Quantification of plasma IL-33 and complement proteins,C3a and C5a,were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. For mRNA expression,RNA was extracted from donor biopsies and used against a 780 gene panel.RESULTS Cohort consisted of 99 donor and recipients.Donor median age was 45 years and 55%male.Recipients had a median age of 59 years with 62%male.The main etiologies were alcoholic hepatitis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.Median MELD-Na at transplant was 21.Donors were grouped based on moderate macrosteatosis(≥30%).Recipients implanted with moderate macrosteatotic grafts had significantly higher peak alanine aminotransferase/aspartate aminotransferase(P<0.001 and P<0.004),and increased incidence of early allograft dysfunction(60%compared to 18%).Circulating IL-33 levels were significantly elevated in recipients of≥30%macrosteatotic grafts(P<0.05).Recipients with detectable levels of circulating IL-33 immediately following reperfusion had significantly higher alanine aminotransferase/aspartate aminotransferase(P<0.05 and P<0.01).Activated complement(C3a and C5a)were elevated in recipients implanted with moderate macrosteatotic grafts.RNA expression analysis of donor biopsies revealed moderate steatotic grafts upregulated genes inflammatory processes while downregulated hepatocyte-produced complement factors.CONCLUSION Circulating IL-33 and activated complement levels immediately following liver reperfusion in recipients of moderate macrosteatotic grafts may identify which patients are at risk of early allograft dysfunction. | Kelley Núñez Mohammad Hamed Daniel Fort David Bruce Paul Thevenot Ari Cohen | 2020 | World Journal of Transplantation2020,10,5: | 0 |
| 10 | A review of superconducting fault current limiters compared with other proven technologies显示文摘Several substations in operation were commissioned decades ago. These substations are overstressed, then their protection equipment cannot provide an effective safety condition to the system. In the worst cases, short‐circuits can cause permanent damage to the system if the overcurrent is higher than the capacity of the installed equipment. There are some possible solutions for those cases:replace all the equipment in the overstressed substation, build a new one in parallel or install a fault current limiter(FCL)device. From an economic point of view, introducing FCLs in the power system is the best way to solve the described problem. The commercial solutions available are the pyrotechnic FCL,air coil reactor, neutral earthing resistor, and high impedance transformer. However, these devices are limited and present several drawbacks.Since the’70s,there has been a search for reliable FCL devices that do not interfere in the regular operation of substations and could limit the fault currents to the protection system rated level. There were so many FCL technologies proposed in the last decades. These proposed new devices may use superconducting technologies, power electronics,or both. This paper reviews proven FCL technologies, focusing on full‐scale devices demonstrated in field and lab tests. The goal is to introduce the main FCL technologies in development and discuss didactically their operation principle, the built prototypes, the commercial units, whether they exist, and the main drawbacks for each technology presented.A final analysis of the level of maturity for each FCL technology is discussed using the TRL(Technology readiness level)scale in order to find technologies with more potential for mass production. The three technologies closer to the full commercial application are:the Resistive Superconducting FCL,the Saturated Iron Core FCL,and the Series Reactor FCL. | Guilherme Gonçalves Sotelo Gabriel dos Santos Felipe Sass Bruno Wanderley França Daniel Henrique Nogueira Dias Marcio Zamboti Fortes Alexander Polasek Rubens de Andrade Jr. | 2022 | Superconductivity2022,,3: | 0 |
