1Emerging flexible and wearable physical sensing platforms for healthcare and biomedical applications显示文摘There are now numerous emerging flexible and wearable sensing technologies that can perform a myriad of physical and physiological measurements.Rapid advances in developing and implementing such sensors in the last several years have demonstrated the growing significance and potential utility of this unique class of sensing platforms.Applications include wearable consumer electronics,soft robotics,medical prosthetics,electronic skin,and health monitoring.In this review,we provide a state-ofthe-art overview of the emerging flexible and wearable sensing platforms for healthcare and biomedical applications.We first introduce the selection of flexible and stretchable materials and the fabrication of sensors based on these materials.We then compare the different solid-state and liquid-state physical sensing platforms and examine the mechanical deformation-based working mechanisms of these sensors.We also highlight some of the exciting applications of flexible and wearable physical sensors in emerging healthcare and biomedical applications,in particular for artificial electronic skins,physiological health monitoring and assessment,and therapeutic and drug delivery.Finally,we conclude this review by offering some insight into the challenges and opportunities facing this field.Kenry Joo Chuan Yeo Chwee Teck Lim 2016Microsystems & Nanoengineering2016,2,1:17
2Clinical utility of Epstein-Barr virus DNA and other liquid biopsy markers in nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)is a malignant epithelial tumor ubiquitously associated with the Epstein-Barr virus(EBV),which is highly prevalent in South China,Southeast Asia,and North Africa.Despite being a highly radio-sensitive and treatable cancer,a majority of NPC patients are diagnosed in their advanced stage,and locoregional and distant relapses following definitive treatment contribute largely to cancer-specific mortality among these patients.Given that EBV-driven NPC is the predominant variant seen in endemic regions,various EBV detection methods have been developed and are utilized in screening,prognostication,and post-treatment surveillance of NPC patients.While the Immunoglobulin A(IgA)serology assay is the most extensively studied EBV detection method,the detection of plasma EBV DNA released during replication or cellular apoptosis has shown superior outcomes in endemic population screening,prognostication,and detection of distant relapse.Furthermore,there is emerging evidence on the use of circulating tumor cells,microRNAs,DNA hypermethylation,and combination assays in various clinical scenarios.Herein,this paper provides a comprehensive overview of the relevant studies using various EBV detection techniques in the management of NPC.Specifically,the recent advances,clinical evidence,and challenges associated with the clinical application of EBV liquid biopsies in population screening,prognostication,and surveillance of NPC are presented.Rong Tan Sean Kean Ann Phua Yoke Lim Soong Lynette Lin Ean Oon Kian Sing Chan Sasidharan Swarnalatha Lucky Jamie Mong Min Han Tan Chwee Ming Lim 2020Cancer Communications2020,40,11:8
3A topologically substituted boron nitride hybrid aerogel for highly selective CO2 uptake显示文摘A topologically mediated synthesis of porous boron nitride aerogel has been experimentally and theoretically investigated for carbon dioxide (CO2)uptake. Replacement of the carbon atoms in a precursor aerogel of graphene oxide and carbon nanotubes was achieved using an elemental substitution reaction,to obtain a boron and nitrogen framework.The newly prepared BN aerogel possessed a specific surface area of 716.56m^2/g and exhibited an unprecedented twenty- fold increase in CO2uptake over N2,adsorbing 100cc/g at 273K and 80cc/g in ambient conditions,as verified by adsorption isotherms via the multipoint Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET)method.Density functional theory calculations were performed to give hints on the mechanism of such high selectivity of CO2 over N2adsorption in BN aerogel,which may be due to the interaction between the intrinsic polar nature of B-N bonds and the high quadrupole moment of CO2 over N2.R.Govindan Kutty Sivaramapanicker Sreejith Xianghua Kong Haiyong He Hong Wang Junhao Lin Kazu Suenaga Chwee Teck Lim Yanli Zhao Wei Ji Zheng Liu 2018Nano Research2018,11,12:5
4Cell biomechanics and its applications in human disease diagnosis显示文摘Certain diseases are known to cause changes in the physical and biomechanical properties of cells.These include cancer,malaria,and sickle cell anemia among others.Typically,such physical property changes can result in several fold increases or decreases in cell stiffness,which are significant and can result in severe pathology and eventual catastrophic breakdown of the bodily functions.While there are developed biochemical and biological assays to detect the onset or presence of diseases,there is always a need to develop more rapid,precise,and sensitive methods to detect and diagnose diseases.Biomechanical property changes can play a significant role in this regard.As such,research into disease biomechanics can not only give us an in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms underlying disease progression,but can also serve as a powerful tool for detection and diagnosis.This article provides some insights into opportunities for how significant changes in cellular mechanical properties during onset or progression of a disease can be utilized as useful means for detection and diagnosis.We will also showcase several technologies that have already been developed to perform such detection and diagnosis.Yasaman Nematbakhsh Chwee Teck Lim 2015Acta Mechanica Sinica2015,31,2:5
5Photon momentum transfer in inhomogeneous dielectric mixtures and induced tractor beams显示文摘The determination of optical force as a consequence of momentum transfer is inevitably subject to the use of the proper momentum density and stress tensor.It is imperative and valuable to consider the intrinsic scheme of photon momentum transfer,particularly when a particle is embedded in a complex dielectric environment.Typically,we consider a particle submerged in an inhomogeneous background composed of different dielectric materials,excluding coherent illumination or hydrodynamic effects.A ray-tracing method is adopted to capture the direct process of momentum transfer from the complex background medium,and this approach is validated using the modified Einstein–Laub method,which uses only the interior fields of the particle in the calculation.In this way,debates regarding the calculation of the force with different stress tensors using exterior fields can be avoided.Our suggested interpretation supports only the Minkowski approach for the optical momentum transfer to the embedded scatterer while rejecting Peierls’s and Abraham’s approaches,though the momentum of a stably moving photon in a continuous background medium should be considered to be of the Abraham type.Our interpretation also provides a novel method of realizing a tractor beam for the exertion of negative force that offers an alternative to the use of negative-index materials,optical gain,or highly non-paraxial or multiple-light interference.Cheng-Wei Qiu Weiqiang Ding MRCMahdy Dongliang Gao Tianhang Zhang Fook Chiong Cheong Aristide Dogariu Zheng Wang Chwee Teck Lim 2015Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1:3

8Functional micro‐concrete 3D hybrid structures f abricated by two‐photon polymerization显示文摘Arbitrary micro-scale three-dimensional(3D)structures fabrication is a dream to achieve many exciting goals that have been pursued for a long time.Among all these applications,the direct 3D printing to fabricate human organs and integrated photonic circuits are extraordinary attractive as they can promote the current technology to a new level.Among all the 3D printing methods available,two-photon polymerization(2PP)is very competitive as it is the unique method to achieve sub-micron resolution to make any desired tiny structures.For the conventional 2PP,the building block is the photoresist.However,the requirement for the building block is different for different purposes.It is very necessary to investigate and improve the photoresist properties according to different requirements.In this paper,we presented one hybrid method to modify the mechanical strength and light trapping efficiency of the photoresist,which transfers the photoresist into the micro-concretes.The micro-concrete structure can achieve±22%strength modification via a silica nano-particles doping.The structures doped with gold nano-particles show tunable plasmonic absorption.Dye doped hybrid structure shows great potential to fabricate 3D micro-chip laser.Yang Li Lianwei Chen Fang Kong Zuyong Wang Ming Dao Chwee Teck Lim Fengping Li Minghui Hong 2017光电工程2017,44,4:2
