| 1 | Ecological-hydrological processes in arid environment: Past, present and future显示文摘Ecohydrology, aiming to study the interactions between terrestrial ecological systems and hydrological cycles as well as their impacts on water management, has been an emerging interdisciplinary research field since the 20 th century. It hosts both natural and human regulated processes that are potentially coupled in complex ways. Understanding the ecological-hydrological processes, the fundamental mechanisms and the connections between them is critical since these processes are not isolated but integrated to impact basin-scale hydrological and biogeochemical functioning of a larger river system, especially in arid environment where water resources are considered to be the source of life. Thus, research on ecological-hydrological processes in arid environment is not only a scientific focus area but also important to sustainable development. Research projects and initiatives involved in observation, measurement, modeling and data assimilation have been well-developed for those purposes over the past 20 years. This review summarizes the historical development of ecohydrology science in China and the state-of-the-art tools available in the research framework. Five grand scientific challenges are listed as prospects and exciting opportunities for the scientific community. | 2 | Anatomical variation of infra-pyloric artery origination: A prospective multicenter observational study (IPA-Origin)显示文摘Objective: Infra-pyloric artery(IPA) is an important anatomical landmark in treatment of gastric cancer and is the key vessel for pylorus-preserving gastrectomy and subgroup of infra-pyloric lymph nodes. However, its anatomical variation is not thoroughly understood. Our study aimed to clarify the origination of the IPA.Methods: We did this prospective, multicenter, open-label, observational study at gastric surgery departments of34 hospitals in China. Gastric cancer patients aged 18 years or older and scheduled to undergo elective total or distal gastrectomy were assigned. During the surgery, IPA dissecting and exposing the origination point with photographs or video clips were required. The primary outcome was the origination of the IPA. Analysis of variance, χ~2 tests and Fisher's tests were used to analyze the differences between groups. The study is registered at Clinicaltrials.gov(No. NCT03071237).Results: Between May 8 and July 31, 2017, 429 patients were assigned for the study, and 419(97.7%) patients had the IPA dissected and recorded through photograph or video and were included in the primary outcome analysis. The median age was 62 years old, and 73.7% were male. Among the patients, 78.5% received laparoscopic surgery. Single IPA origination was identified in 398(95.0%) patients, including gastroduodenal artery(GDA) in154(36.8%) patients, anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery(ASPDA) in 130(31.0%) patients, and right gastroepiploic artery(RGEA) in 114(27.2%) patients. Fifteen(3.6%) patients were identified with multiple IPA and 6(1.4%) patients were identified as IPA absence. The differences in the distribution of surgical approach(P=0.003) and geographic area(P=0.030) were statistically significant. | 3 | Drinking water treatment using a submerged internal-circulation membrane coagulation reactor coupled with permanganate oxidation显示文摘A submerged internal circulating membrane coagulation reactor(MCR) was used to treat surface water to produce drinking water. Polyaluminum chloride(PACl) was used as coagulant,and a hydrophilic polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) submerged hollow fiber microfiltration membrane was employed. The influences of trans-membrane pressure(TMP), zeta potential(ZP) of the suspended particles in raw water, and KMnO_4 dosing on water flux and the removal of turbidity and organic matter were systematically investigated. Continuous bench-scale experiments showed that the permeate quality of the MCR satisfied the requirement for a centralized water supply, according to the Standards for Drinking Water Quality of China(GB 5749-2006), as evaluated by turbidity(<1 NTU) and total organic carbon(TOC)(<5 mg/L)measurements. Besides water flux, the removal of turbidity, TOC and dissolved organic carbon(DOC) in the raw water also increased with increasing TMP in the range of 0.01–0.05 MPa. High ZP induced by PACl, such as 5–9 mV, led to an increase in the number of fine and total particles in the MCR, and consequently caused serious membrane fouling and high permeate turbidity.However, the removal of TOC and DOC increased with increasing ZP. A slightly positive ZP, such as 1–2 mV, corresponding to charge neutralization coagulation, was favorable for membrane fouling control. Moreover, dosing with KMnO_4 could further improve the removal of turbidity and DOC, thereby mitigating membrane fouling. | 6 | Verteporfin synergizes the efflcacy of anti-PD-1 in cholangiocarcinoma显示文摘Background:Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is one of the primary hepatobiliary malignant neoplasms with only 10%of 5-year survival rate.Promising immunotherapy with the blockade of immune checkpoints has no clear benefit in CCA.The inhibition of YAP1 signaling by verteporfin has shown encouraging results by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.This study aimed to evaluate the potential benefit of the combination of verteporfin and anti-programmed cell death 1(PD-1)in CCA mouse model.Methods:We assessed the cytotoxicity of verteporfin in human CCA cell lines in vitro,including both intrahepatic CCA and extrahepatic CCA cells.We examined the in vitro effect of verteporfin on cell proliferation,apoptosis,and stemness.We evaluated the in vivo efflcacy of verteporfin,anti-PD-1,and a combination of both in subcutaneous CCA mouse model.Results:Our study showed that verteporfin reduced tumor cell growth and enhanced apoptosis of human CCA tumor cells in vitro in a dose-dependent fashion.Nevertheless,verteporfin impaired stemness evidenced by reduced spheroid formation and colony formation,decreased numbers of cells with aldehyde dehydrogenase activity and positive cancer stem cell markers(all P<0.05).The combination of verteporfin and anti-PD-1 reduced tumor burden in CCA subcutaneous SB1 tumor model compared to either agent alone.Conclusions:Verteporfin exhibits antitumor effects in both intrahepatic and extrahepatic CCA cell lines and the combination with anti-PD-1 inhibited tumor growth. | Jianyang Fu Nicole A McGrath Jihye Lee Xin Wang Gagandeep Brar Changqing Xie | 2022 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2022,21,5: | 1 |

| 15 | Synthesis of a Fully Biobased Polyfunctional Vinyl Oligomer and Their UV Cured Films Prepared via Thiol-ene Coupling显示文摘In this paper,a fully bio-based vinyl oligomer with high functionalities was successfully prepared from rapeseed oil by three modification steps:epoxidation of rapeseed oil,solvent-free and catalyst-free ring opening by 10-undecylenic acid followed by esterification with 10-undecenoyl chloride.Then,the renewable polymers were prepared by photo-polymerization of these modified vegetable oils with typical thiol monomers:pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-mercaptopropionate),pentaerythritol tris(3-mercaptopropionate)and 1,2-ethanedithiol.The synthesis of the vinyl oligomer was monitored by nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.The average number of the carbon-carbon double bonds of the resulting vinyl oligomer is high to be 7.2.The kinetic of thiol-ene photo-polymerization of vegetable oil-based vinyl oligomer was studied by FTIR-ATR analyses.In addition,the thermo-physical properties,thermal stability and solvent resistance of these UV cured films were characterized.The polymers from 1,2-ethanedithiol exhibit higher gel content,storage modulus and glass transition temperature than those from other thiol monomers due to the high crosslinking densities of the resulting polymers.All polymers show excellent thermal stability up to 290oC.The resulting polymers exhibit thermo-physical properties,excellent water resistance and thermals stability,which is promising to find application in coatings and adhesives. | Changqing Fu Jiahui Wang Lie Chen Liang Shen | 2019 | Journal of Renewable Materials2019,7,8: | 0 |

| 17 | Epidemiological Analysis of Foodborne Botulism Outbreaks-China,2004-2020显示文摘Introduction:Foodborne botulism is a rare,potentially fatal illness resulting from the ingestion of foods contaminated with preformed botulinum neurotoxin types A,B,E,or F,produced by Clostridium botulinum.The descriptive epidemiology of foodborne botulism outbreaks in China during 2004−2020 was performed to inform public health response strategies.Methods:Data from 22 of 31 provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)of the National Foodborne Disease Outbreaks Surveillance System during 2004−2020 and Embase,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang Data,and Chinese Science and Technique Journals(CQVIP)from January 2004 to December 2020 to identify indexed publications in the Chinese literature using the following search terms“botulism,”or“botulinum toxin,”or“Clostridium botulinum.”The number and proportion of outbreaks,illnesses,and deaths by PLAD,food types,and contributing factors were calculated.Results:During 2004−2020,a total of 80 foodborne botulism outbreaks occurred in China,involving 386 illnesses and 55 deaths;most outbreaks were reported between June and August,with a sharp peak in January;22 out of 31 PLADs reported foodborne botulism outbreaks,Xinjiang reported the largest number of outbreaks(20),followed by Qinghai(13);the most commonly implicated foods were homeprepared traditional processed stinky tofu and dried beef,accounting for 51.25%events.Improper processing and improper storage in contributing factors accounted for 77.50%outbreaks.Initial misdiagnosis occurred in 27.50%of cases.Conclusions:Outbreaks of foodborne botulism had a high case-fatality rate.Targeted food safety and popularization education to farmers and herdsmen in Xinjiang and Qinghai related to botulism prevention should be carried out,and timely outbreak investigation and hospital surge capacity should be improved. | Hongqiu Li Yunchang Guo Tian Tian Wanhua Guo Changqing Liu Xiaocheng Liang Jikai Liu Weiwei Li Ping Fu | 2022 | China CDC weekly2022,4,35: | 0 |
