1Black carbon aerosols and their radiative properties in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘The climatic and environmental effects of atmospheric aerosols are a hot topic in global science community, and radiative properties of the aerosols are one of the important parameters in assessing climatic change. Here we studied the black carbon concentration and absorption coefficient measured with aethalometers, scattering coefficient measured with nephelometers, and single scattering albedo derived at an atmospheric composition watch station in Guangzhou from 2004 to 2007. Our main results are as follows. The data of black carbon concentration and absorption coefficients measured with instruments cannot be directly used until they are measured in parallel with internationally accepted instruments for comparison, calibration, and reduction. After evaluation of the data, the result shows that the monthly mean of BC concentration varies 3.1―14.8 μg·m-3 and the concentration decreases by about 1 μg·m-3 in average over the four years; It is higher in the dry season with a multi-year mean of 8.9 μg/m3 and lower in the rainy season with a multi-year mean of 8.0 μg·m-3; The extreme maximum of monthly mean concentration occurred in December 2004 and extreme minimum in July 2007, and a 4-year mean is 8.4 μg·m-3. It is also shown that monthly mean scattering coefficient derived varies 129 -565 Mm-1, monthly mean absorption coefficient 32-139 Mm-1, and monthly mean single scattering albedo 0.71-0.91, with annual mean values of 0.80, 0.82, 0.79 and 0.84 for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively. Three instruments were used to take simultaneous measurements of BC in PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 and the results showed that PM2.5 took up about 90% of PM10 and PM1 accounted for about 68% of PM2.5, and BC aerosols are mainly present in fine particulates. The variability of BC concentrations is quite consistent between the Nancun station (141 m above sea level) and the Panyu station (13 m above sea level), which are 8 km apart from each other. 2Grid Forming Converters in Renewable Energy Sources Dominated Power Grid:Control Strategy,Stability,Application,and Challenges显示文摘The renewable energy sources(RESs)dominated power grid is an envisaged infrastructure of the future power system,where the commonly used grid following(GFL)control for grid-tied converters suffers from lacking grid support capability,low stability,etc.Recently,emerging grid forming(GFM)control methods have been proposed to improve the dynamic performance and stability of grid-tied converters.This paper reviews existing GFM control methods for the grid-tied converters and compares them in terms of control structure,grid support capability,fault current limiting,and stability.Considering the impact of fault current limiting strategies,a comprehensive transient stability analysis is provided.In addition,this paper explores the typical applications of GFM converters,such as AC microgrid and offshore wind farm high-voltage direct current(OWF-HVDC)integration systems.Finally,the challenges to the GFM converters in future applications are discussed.Haobo Zhang Wang Xiang Weixing Lin Jinyu Wen 2021Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2021,9,6:15
3Effect of atmospheric aerosol on surface ozone variation over the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘Our analysis of the surface aerosol and ultraviolet(UV) measurements in Pearl River Delta(PRD) region shows that the sur-face UV radiation is reduced by more than 50% due to high aerosol concentrations.This has important impacts on urban eco-system and photochemistry,especially on ozone photochemical production over the region.The quantitative effect of aerosols on surface ozone is evaluated by analyzing surface observations(including ozone,ultraviolet radiation,aerosol radiative pa-rameters) and by using radiative and chemical models.A case study shows that the aerosol concentrations and UV radiation are significantly correlated with ozone concentrations.The correlation coefficient between the aerosol optical depth(AOD) and the PM10 mass concentration is very high,with a maximum of 0.98,and the AOD and UV radiation/ozone is anti-correlated,with a correlation coefficient of -0.90.The analysis suggests that ozone productivity is significantly decreased due to the reduction of UV radiation.The noon-time ozone maximum is considerably depressed when AOD is 0.6,and is further decreased when AOD is up to 1.2 due to the reduction of ozone photochemical productivity.Because the occurring probability of aerosol optical depth for AOD550 nm≥0.6 and AOD340 nm≥1.0 is 47,and 55% respectively during the dry season(October,November,December,January),this heavy aerosol condition explains the low ozone maximum that often occurs in the dry season over the Guangzhou region.The analysis also suggests that the value of single scattering albedo(SSA) is very sensitive to the aerosol radiative effect when the radiative and chemical models are applied,implying that the value of SSA needs to be carefully studied when the models are used in calculating ozone production.DENG XueJiao ZHOU XiuJi WU Dui TIE XueXi TAN HaoBo LI Fei BI XueYan DENG Tao JIANG DeHai 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5:10
4A vertical sounding of severe haze process in Guangzhou area显示文摘We detected a severe haze process in Guangzhou area with lidar and microwave radiometer, performed an inversion to get boundary layer height by wavelet covariance transform, and analyzed the correlation between meteorological factors of boundary layer and visibility from the perspective of dynamical and thermodynamic structures. Our results indicate that the boundary layer height shows significant daily changes, consistent with ground visibility variation. During the cleaning process, the boundary layer height exceeded 1 km; during severe haze, the height was only 500 m. Temperature gradient of 50–100 m, which was 30 h lag, was remarkably correlated with visibility, with the correlation coefficient of 0.77. High layer visibility(255 m) and low layer stability were significantly anticorrelation, and the maximum anticorrelation coefficient was up to-0.76 in cleaning days and-0.49 in haze days. In the related boundary layer meteorological factors, surface ventilation coefficient was linearly correlated with ground visibility, with the greatest correlation coefficient of 0.88. The correlation coefficients of boundary layer height, ground wind velocity, relative humidity and ground visibility were 0.76, 0.67, and-0.77, respectively. There was a strong correlation between different meteorological factors. The dominant meteorological factor during this haze process was surface ventilation coefficient. 6Controlled release and biocompatibility of polymer/titania nanotube array system on titanium implants显示文摘Bacterial infection and tissue inflammation are the major causes of early failure of titanium-based orthopedic implants;thus,surgical implants with tunable drug releasing properties represent an appealing way to address some of these problems of bacterial infection and tissue inflammation in early age of orthopedic implants.In this work,a hybrid surface system composed of biodegradable poly(lactic-coglycolic acid)(PLGA)and titania nanotubes(TNTs)has been successfully constructed on Ti implants with the aim of preventing bacterial infection via long-term drug release.By varying the size of the TNTs and the thickness of the polymer film,the drug release profile can be tuned to achieve the optimal therapeutic action throughout the treatment time.The size of TNTs plays a dominant role in the drug loading dose of TNTs/PLGA hybrid coatings.In this work,TNTs with an average size of 80 nm can achieve the largest loading dose.Depending on the polymer thickness,significant improvement in the drug release characteristics is attained,for instance,reduced burst release(from 84%to 27%)and overall release time extended from 5 to over 40 days.In addition,the PLGA layers may favor the proliferation and osteogenesis of MC3T3-E1 mouse cells at an earlier stage.Therefore,this TNT/PLGA hybrid surface system can be employed as an effective bioplatform for improving both self-antibacterial performance and biocompatibility of Ti-based biomaterials.Tingting Wang Zhengyang Weng Xiangmei Liu Kelvin W.K.Yeung Haobo Pan Shuilin Wu 2017Bioactive Materials2017,2,1:8
7Protonation induced high-T_c phases in iron-based superconductors evidenced by NMR and magnetization measurements显示文摘Chemical substitution during growth is a well-established method to manipulate electronic states of quantum materials, and leads to rich spectra of phase diagrams in cuprate and iron-based superconductors. Here we report a novel and generic strategy to achieve nonvolatile electron doping in series of(i.e.11 and 122 structures) Fe-based superconductors by ionic liquid gating induced protonation at room temperature. Accumulation of protons in bulk compounds induces superconductivity in the parent compounds, and enhances the Tclargely in some superconducting ones. Furthermore, the existence of proton in the lattice enables the first proton nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) study to probe directly superconductivity. Using Fe S as a model system, our NMR study reveals an emergent high-Tcphase with no coherence peak which is hard to measure by NMR with other isotopes. 8Corrosion mechanism of micro-arc oxidation treated biocompatible AZ31 magnesium alloy in simulated body fluid显示文摘The rapid degradation of magnesium(Mg) based alloys has prevented their further use in orthopedic trauma fixation and vascular intervention,and therefore it is essential to investigate the corrosion mechanism for improving the corrosion resistance of these alloys. In this work, the effect of applied voltage on the surface morphology and the corrosion behavior of micro-arc oxidation(MAO) with different voltages were carried out to obtain biocompatible ceramic coatings on AZ31 Mg alloy. The effects of applied voltage on the surface morphology and the corrosion behavior of MAO samples in the simulated body fluid(SBF) were studied systematically. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD)were employed to characterize the morphologies and phase compositions of coating before and after corrosion. The results showed that corrosion resistance of the MAO coating obtained at 250 V was better than the others in SBF. The dense layer of MAO coating and the corrosion precipitation were the key factors for corrosion behavior. The corrosion of precipitation Mg(OH)2and the calcium phosphate(Ca–P) minerals on the surface of MAO coatings could enhance their corrosion resistance effectively. 9Attenuation of ultraviolet radiation reaching the surface due to atmospheric aerosols in Guangzhou显示文摘The UV attenuation due to atmospheric aerosols in Guangzhou was quantitatively assessed using surface ultraviolet radiation (UV,295-385 nm) observation,sun photometer and radiation models.Observations showed that the annual average value of aerosol optical depth (AOD) was 1.19 in UV spectral region of 340 nm,the annual average occurrence frequency of aerosol optical depth AOD 340 nm >1.0 was 55%,and the annual average attenuation rate of surface UV direct radiation of 340 nm was 68%.It was proven in the observation of surface UV radiation and model evaluation that annual average attenuation of UV due to atmosphere was 75%,and that reached 72% in the dry season (October,November,December and January);while average attenuation of UV due to atmospheric aerosols reached 62% in the dry season.It was indicated that very significant UV attenuations due to atmospheric aerosols existed in Guangzhou urban agglomeration,and at least half of UV radiation was attenuated due to atmospheric aerosols.Such large-amplitude attenuation will have a significant impact on urban ecosystem and species chemical cycles,especially photochemical reaction processes.DENG XueJiao ZHOU XiuJi TIE XueXi WU Dui LI Fei TAN HaoBo DENG Tao 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,21:6
10Hyaluronic acid facilitates bone repair effects of calcium phosphate cement by accelerating osteogenic expression显示文摘Calcium phosphate cements(CPC)are widely anticipated to be an optimum bone repair substitute due to its satisfied biocompatibility and degradability,suitable to be used in minimally invasive treatment of bone defects.However the clinical application of CPC is still not satisfied by its poor cohesiveness and mechanical properties,in particular its osteoinductivity.Hyaluronic acid reinforced calcium phosphate cements(HA/CPC)showed extroadinary potential not only enhancing the compressive strength of the cements but also significantly increasing its osteoinductivity.In our study,the compressive strength of HA/CPC increased significantly when the cement was added 1%hyaluronic acid(denoted as 1-HA/CPC).In the meantime,hyaluronic acid obviously promoted ALP activity,osteogenic related protein and mRNA expression of hBMSCs(human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells)in vitro,cement group of HA/CPC with 4%hyaluronic acid adding(denoted as 4-HA/CPC)showed optimal enhancement in hBMSCs differentiation.After being implanted in rat tibial defects,4-HA/CPC group exhibited better bone repair ability and bone growth promoting factors,comparing to pure CPC and 1-HA/CPC groups.The underlying biological mechanism of this stimulation for HA/CPC may be on account of higher osteogenic promoting factors secretion and osteogenic genes expression with hyaluronic acid incorporation.These results indicate that hyaluronic acid is a highly anticipated additive to improve physicochemical properties and osteoinductivity performance of CPCs for minimally invasive healing of bone defects.Xu Cui Chengcheng Huang Zhizhen Chen Meng Zhang Chunyu Liu Kun Su Jianyun Wang Li Li Renxian Wang Bing Li Dafu Chen Changshun Ruan Deping Wang William W.Lu Haobo Pan 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,11:6

12Accelerating DNN-based 3D point cloud processing for mobile computing显示文摘3D point cloud data,which are produced by various 3D sensors such as LIDAR and stereo cameras,have been widely deployed by industry leaders such as Google,Uber,Tesla,and Mobileye,for mobile robotic applications such as autonomous driving and humanoid robots.Point cloud data,which are composed of reliable depth information,can provide accurate location and shape characteristics for scene understanding,such as object recognition and semantic segmentation.However,deep neural networks(DNNs),which directly consume point cloud data,are particularly computation-intensive because they have to not only perform multiplication-and-accumulation(MAC)operations but also search neighbors from the irregular 3D point cloud data.Such a task goes beyond the capabilities of general-purpose processors in realtime to figure out the solution as the scales of both point cloud data and DNNs increase from application to application.We present the first accelerator architecture that dynamically configures the hardware onthe-fly to match the computation of both neighbor point search and MAC computation for point-based DNNs.To facilitate the process of neighbor point search and reduce the computation costs,a grid-based algorithm is introduced to search neighbor points from a local region of grids.Evaluation results based on the scene recognition and segmentation tasks show that the proposed design harvests 16.4x higher performance and saves 99.95%of energy than an NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU baseline in point cloud scene understanding applications.Bosheng LIU Xiaoming CHEN Yinhe HAN Jiajun LI Haobo XU Xiaowei LI 2019Science China(Information Sciences)2019,62,11:4

14Strontium modulates osteogenic activity of bone cement composed of bioactive borosilicate glass particles by activating Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway显示文摘There is a need for synthetic grafts to reconstruct large bone defects using minimal invasive surgery.Our previous study showed that incorporation of Sr into bioactive borate glass cement enhanced the osteogenic capacity in vivo.However,the amount of Sr in the cement to provide an optimal combination of physicochemical properties and capacity to stimulate bone regeneration and the underlying molecular mechanism of this stimulation is yet to be determined.In this study,bone cements composed of bioactive borosilicate glass particles substituted with varying amounts of Sr(0 mol%to 12 mol%SrO)were created and evaluated in vitro and in vivo.The setting time of the cement increased with Sr substitution of the glass.Upon immersion in PBS,the cement degraded and converted more slowly to HA(hydroxyapatite)with increasing Sr substitution.The released Sr2+modulated the proliferation,differentiation,and mineralization of hBMSCs(human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells)in vitro.Osteogenic characteristics were optimally enhanced with cement(designated BG6Sr)composed of particles substituted with 6mol%SrO.When implanted in rabbit femoral condyle defects,BG6Sr cement supported better peri-implant bone formation and bone-implant contact,comparing to cements substituted with 0mol%or 9mol%SrO.The underlying mechanism is involved in the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs.These results indicate that BG6Sr cement has a promising combination of physicochemical properties and biological performance for minimally invasive healing of bone defects.Xu Cui Yadong Zhang Jianyun Wang Chengcheng Huang Yudong Wang Hongsheng Yang Wenlong Liu Ting Wang Deping Wang Guocheng Wang Changshun Ruan Dafu Chen William W.Lu Wenhai Huang Mohamed N.Rahaman Haobo Pan 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,2:3

16Transverse mode instability mitigation in a high-power confined-doped fiber amplifier with good beam quality through seed laser control显示文摘In this work,a confined-doped fiber with the core/inner-cladding diameter of 40/250μm and a relative doping ratio of 0.75 is fabricated through a modified chemical vapor deposition method combined with the chelate gas deposition technique,and subsequently applied in a tandem-pumped fiber amplifier for high-power operation and transverse mode instability(TMI)mitigation.Notably,the impacts of the seed laser power and mode purity are preliminarily investigated through comparative experiments.It is found that the TMI threshold could be significantly affected by the seed laser mode purity.The possible mechanism behind this phenomenon is proposed and revealed through comprehensive comparative experiments and theoretical analysis.Finally,a maximum output power of 7.49 kW is obtained with the beam quality factor of approximately 1.83,which is the highest output power ever reported in a forward tandem-pumped confined-doped fiber amplifier.This work could provide a good reference and practical solution to improve the TMI threshold and realize high-power high-brightness fiber lasers.Hanshuo Wu Haobo Li Yi An Ruixian Li Xiao Chen Hu Xiao Liangjin Huang Huan Yang Zhiping Yan Jinyong Leng Zhiyong Pan Pu Zhou 2022High Power Laser Science and Engineering2022,10,6:3
17Akermanite used as an alkaline biodegradable implants for the treatment of osteoporotic bone defect显示文摘In osteoporosis scenario, tissue response to implants is greatly impaired by the deteriorated boneregeneration microenvironment. In the present study, a Mg-containing akermanite (Ak) ceramic wasemployed for the treatment of osteoporotic bone defect, based on the hypothesis that both beneficialions (e.g. Mg^2+ ect.) released by the implants and the weak alkaline microenvironment pH (μe-pH) itcreated may play distinct roles in recovering the abnormal bone regeneration by stimulating osteoblasticanabolic effects. The performance of Ak, b-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) and Hardystone (Har) in healinga 3 mm bone defect on the ovariectomized (OVX) osteoporotic rat model was evaluated. Our resultsindicated that, there's more new bone formed in Ak group than in β-TCP or Har group at week 9. Theinitial me-pHs of Ak were significantly higher than that of the β-TCP and Blank group, and this weakalkaline condition was maintained till at least 9 weeks post-surgery. Increased osteoblastic activity whichwas indicated by higher osteoid secretion was observed in Ak group at week 4 to week 9. An intermediatelayer which was rich in phosphorus minerals and bound directly to the new forming bone wasdeveloped on the surface of Ak. 18A New Species of Tsuga(Pinaceae) based on Lignified Wood from the Late Miocene of Central Yunnan, China, and Its Paleoenvironmental Implications显示文摘A new species, Tsuga nanfengensis sp.nov.(Pinaceae), is described on the basis of lignified fossil wood from the late Miocene of the Xianfeng Basin, central Yunnan, southwestern China.Detailed observation of the fossil wood specimens show the following characteristics: distinct growth rings, absence of resin canals, uniseriate bordered pits in the radial wall of tracheids, ray tracheids and piceoid and cupressoid cross-field pits.These features indicate similarities to the wood of extant Tsuga canadensis, T.chinensis, and T.dumosa.According to the fossil record, Tsuga was present in Xundian County during the Miocene.Today Tsuga is drought intolerant, preferring wet conditions with no extant species growing naturally in Xundian County.The presence of Tsuga in the Miocene of Xundian County indicates a humid climate consistent with previous palaeoclimatic reconstructions showing a wetter and probably shorter dry season in the Miocene, relative to the present day.Therefore, the change in the local climate such as increasing aridity through the Miocene might explain the local extinction of Tsuga from central Yunnan.WANG Haobo Olesia V.BONDARENKO Frédéric M.B.JACQUES WANG Yuehua ZHOU Zhekun 2015Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,5:3
19Inhibition of Axinl in osteoblast precursor cells leads to defects in postnatal bone growth through suppressing osteoclast formation显示文摘Axinl is a negative regulator of β-catenin signaling and its role in osteoblast precursor cells remains undefined.In the present studies,we determined changes in postnatal bone growth by deletion of Axinl in osteoblast precursor cells and analyzed bone growth in newborn and postnatal Axin1 O5X mice and found that hypertrophic cartilage area was largely expanded in AxinlOSX KO mice.A larger number of chondrocytes and unabsorbed cartilage matrix were found in the bone marrow cavity of Axin1OSX KO mice.Osteoclast formation in metaphyseal and subchondral bone areas was significantly decreased,demonstrated by decreased TRAPpositive cell numbers,associated with reduction of MMP9-and cathepsin K-positive cell numbers in Axin1 O5X KO mice.OPG expression and the ratio of O p g to Rankl were significantly increased in osteoblasts of Axinl O5X KO mice.Osteoclast formation in primary bone marrow derived microphage(BMM)cells was significantly decreased when BMM cells were cultured with conditioned media(CM)collected from osteoblasts derived from Axin1OSX mice compared with BMM cells cultured with CM derived from WT mice.Thus,the loss of Axinl in osteoblast precursor cells caused increased OPG and the decrease in osteoclast formation,leading to delayed bone growth in postnatal Axin1°sx KO mice.Bing Shu Yongjian Zhao Shitian Zhao Haobo Pan Rong Xie Dan Yi Ke Lu Junjie Yang Chunchun Xue Jian Huang Jing Wang Dongfeng Zhao Guozhi Xiao Yongjun Wang Di Chen 2020Bone Research2020,8,3:3
