| 1 | Triglyceride levels and apolipoprotein E polymorphism in patients with acute pancreatitis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Hypertriglyceridemia is an unusual cause of acute pancreatitis and sometimes considered to be an epiphenomenon.This study aimed to investigate the clinical and analytical features and the APOE genotypes in patients with acute pancreatitis and severe hypertriglyceridemia.METHODS:We undertook a one-year,prospective study of patients with acute pancreatitis whose first laboratory analysis on admission to the emergency department included measurement of serum triglycerides.The APOE genotype was determined and the patients answered an established questionnaire within the first 24 hours concerning their alcohol consumption,the presence of co-morbidities and any medications being taken.The patients' progression,etiological diagnosis,hospital stay and clinical and radiological severity were all recorded.RESULTS:Hypertriglyceridemia was responsible for 7 of 133 cases of pancreatitis (5%);the remaining cases were of biliary (53%),idiopathic (26%),alcoholic (11%) or other (5%) origin.Compared with these remaining cases,the patients with hypertriglyceridemia were significantly younger,had more relapses,and more often had diabetes mellitus.They usually consumed alcohol or consumed it excessively on the days before admission.Also,the ε4 allele of the APOE gene was more common in this group (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:One of 20 episodes of acute pancreatitis is caused by hypertriglyceridemia and it is linked to genetic (ε4 allele) and comorbid factors such as diabetes and,especially,alcohol consumption. | Radka Ivanova Susana Puerta Alfonso Garrido Ignacio Cueto Ana Ferro María José Ariza Andrés Cobos Pedro González-Santos Pedro Valdivielso | 2012 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2012,11,1: | 26 |
| 2 | GSTT1,GSTM1 and CYP2E1 genetic polymorphisms in gastric cancer and chronic gastritis in a Brazilian population显示文摘MIM:To test the hypothesis that,in the Southeastern Brazilian population,the GSTT1,GSTM1 and CYP2E1 polymorphisms and putative risk factors are associated with an increased risk for gastric cancer.METHODS:We conducted a study on 100 cases of gastric cancer(GC),100 cases of chronic gastritis(CG),and 150 controls(C).Deletion of the GSTT1 and GSTM1 genes was assessed by multiplex PCR.CYP2E1/PsА genotyping was performed using a PCR-RFLP assay.RESULTS:No relationship between GSTT1/GSTM1 deletion and the c1/c2 genotype of CYP2E1 was observed among the three groups.However,a significant difference between CG and C was observde,due to a greater number of GSTT1/GSTM1 positive genotypes in the CG group.The GSTT1 null genotype occurred more frequently in Negroid subjicts,and the GSTM1 null genotype was observed mainly in individuals with chronic gastritis infected with H pylori.CONCLUSION:Our findings indecate that there is no obvious relationship between the GSTT1,GSTM1 and CYP2E1 polymorphisms and gastric cancer. | Jucimara Colombo Ana Elizabete Silva Andréa Regina Baptista Rossit Alaor Caetano Aldenis Albaneze Borim Durval Wohnrath | 2004 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2004,10,9: | 11 |

We report a rare case of a cystic colonic duplication in a female adult. Preoperative investigations were suggestive of pancreatic tumor. The diagnosis was established based on the histopathological examination of the resected specimen. | 4 | Plant plasma membrane-resident receptors:Surveillance for infections and coordination for growth and development显示文摘As sessile organisms, plants are exposed to pathogen invasions and environmental fluctuations. To overcome the challenges of their surroundings, plants acquire the potential to sense endogenous and exogenous cues, resulting in their adaptability. Hence, plants have evolved a large collection of plasma membrane-resident receptors, including RECEPTOR-LIKE KINASEs(RLKs) and RECEPTOR-LIKE PROTEINs(RLPs) to perceive those signals and regulate plant growth,development, and immunity. The ability of RLKs and RLPs to recognize distinct ligands relies on diverse categories of extracellular domains evolved. Co-regulatory receptors are often required to associate with RLKs and RLPs to facilitate cellular signal transduction. RECEPTOR-LIKE CYTOPLASMIC KINASEs(RLCKs) also associate with the complex, bifurcating the signal to key signaling hubs, such as MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE(MAPK) cascades, to regulate diverse biological processes. | 8 | Chronic pelvic pain,psychiatric disorders and early emotional traumas:Results of a cross sectional case-control study显示文摘AIM To compare the prevalence of psychiatric disorders and early emotional traumas between women with chronic pelvic pain(CPP) and healthy women.METHODS One hundred women in reproductive age,50 of them had CPP(according to the criteria set by the International Association for Study of Pain),and 50 were considered healthy after the gynecological evaluation.The eligibility criteria were defined as follows:chronic or persistent pain perceived in the pelvis-related structures(digestive,urinary,genital,myofascial or neurological systems).Only women in reproductive age with acyclic pain for 6 mo,or more,were included in the present study.Menopause was the exclusion criterion.The participants were grouped according to age,school level and socioeconomic status and were individually assessed through DSM-IV Structured Clinical Interview(SCID-I) and Early Trauma Inventory Self-report-short form(ETISR-SF Brazilian version).Descriptive statistics,group comparison tests and multivariate logistics regression were used in the data analysis.RESULTS The early emotional traumas are highly prevalent,but their prevalence did not differ between the two groups.The current Major Depressive Disorder was more prevalent in women with CPP.The CPP was associatedwith endometriosis in 48% of the women.There was no difference in the prevalence of disorders when endometriosis was taken into account(endometriosis vs other diseases:P > 0.29).The current Major Depressive Disorder and the Bipolar Disorder had greater occurrence likelihood in the group of women with CPP(ODDS = 5.25 and 9.0).CONCLUSION The data reinforce the link between mood disorders and CPP.The preview evidences about the association between CPP and early traumas tended not to be significant after a stronger methodological control was implemented. | Flávia L Osório Ana Carolina F Carvalho Mariana F Donadon André L Moreno Omero Polli-Neto | 2016 | World Journal of Psychiatry2016,6,3: | 2 |
