| 1 | Genetic contribution of foreign germplasm to elite Chinese soybean (Glycine max) cultivars revealed by SSR markers显示文摘Simple sequence repeats (SSR) marker analysis, combined with pedigree analysis, was car- ried out to trace the genetic constitutes of Suinong 14 and Hefeng 25 in assessing the contribution of for- eign germplasm to those elite cultivars. The overall goal is to accumulate information for further effective utilization of foreign germplasm in Chinese soybean breeding programs. SSR clustering results indicated that the genetic base of elite Chinese soybean culti- vars, including Suinong 14 and Hefeng 25, were broadened and enhanced via introduction of Amsoy from the U.S. and Shishengchangye from Japan. The pedigree analysis showed a very high coefficient of parentage between Shishengchangye and Hefeng 25, between Shishengchangye and Suinong 14, and between Amsoy and Suinong 14. The genetic simi- larity between Suinong 14 and Hefeng 25 was 60.58%. Among 20 linkage groups, more genomic regions were transferred from Hefeng 25 to Suinong 14 in linkage group (LG) I, L and C2 than other LGs. Among the unique alleles of foreign parents, five specific loci in Amsoy were transferred to Suinong 14, and three loci from Shishengchangye to Suinong 14. Some SSR loci were proved to be correlated with phenotypes: two loci for seed size introgressed from Shishengchangye to Suinong 14, and one locus forprotein content from Amsoy to Suinong 14. | 2 | Seasonal patterns in water uptake for Medicago sativa grown along an elevation gradient with shallow groundwater table in Yanchi county of Ningxia,Northwest China显示文摘Lucerne(Medicago sativa L.) is a deep-rooted perennial leguminous forage with high evapo-transpiration rate exceeding the annual precipitation in semi-arid areas of Northwest China.Groundwater might be the potential water sources of lucerne in the area with shallow groundwater table.In this study,stable isotopic compositions of oxygen and hydrogen(δ18O and δD) of different water sources and xylem sap were analyzed to determine the seasonal(April,June,July and August) and topographic(three slope positions) variations in water sources for lucerne growing in Ningxia eastern semi-arid area adjacent to Mu Us Desert characterized by shallow groundwater table.Iso Source software was used to calculate the probable contribution of different water sources to the total plant water uptake.Stomatal conductance,stem water potential,carbon isotope discrimination(?^(13)C) of whole plant were also determined for evaluating the water status of lucerne growing at different slope positions.The results showed that soil water content increased as the elevation decreased.Oxygen compositions of soil water in the 0–40 cm profile fluctuated considerably.Soil water δ^(18)O values in deep profile(>3.5 m) were similar to those in groundwater,implying the recharge of groundwater to this soil layer.Highest water utilization rate from deep soil profile(below 350 cm) was recorded for lucerne grown at the slope position 1(groundwater table depth of 3.5–3.9 m) in April,June and July.The lucernes at slope position 2(groundwater table depth of 5.8–6.4 m) and slope position 3(groundwater table depth 7.1–8.3 m) mostly used water from deep soil layers(below 350 cm) during dry period,and turned to use water from superficial soil layer in wet period.Higher yield,?^(13)C value of whole plant and stomatal conductance were observed for lucerne grown at the slope position 1 than those at other slope positions.These results indicated that groundwater is a significant water source for transpiration of lucerne grown in Ningxia semi-arid area with shallow groundwater table where lucerne grassland is suggested to be established so as to obtain better yield performance. | ZHU Lin ZHANG Huili GAO Xue QI Yashu XU Xing | 2016 | Journal of Arid Land2016,8,6: | 4 |
| 3 | Stimulation of gaseous phosphine production from Antarctic seabird guanos and ornithogenic soils显示文摘Matrix-bound phosphine(MBP) is a general term used to indicate non-gaseous reduced phosphorus compounds that are transformed into phosphine gas upon reaction with bases or acids.Antarctic seabird guanos and ornithogenic soils were used as materials to compare the different digestion methods for transforming matrix-bound phosphine into phosphine gas.The results demonstrated that more phosphine gas in most of Antarctic environmental materials was formed of matrix-bound phosphine by caustic digestion than by acidic digestion.The comparative study on different digestion methods also revealed that the fraction of MBP converted to gaseous phosphine during the digestion depended on the temperature.The optimal digestion temperature was close to 70℃ and the optimal digestion time was about 20 min.Acidic conditions were more favorable for the release of matrix-bound phosphine compared to the neutral conditions.A proper water dilution can increase the production and emission of phosphine from the Antarctic penguin guanos. | ZHU Renbin LIU Yashu SUN Jianjun SUN Liguang GENG Jinju | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,2: | 3 |

| 5 | Filtering Chinese Image Spam Using Pseudo-OCR显示文摘For image spam filtering, the Optical character recognition(OCR) based methods often achieve a better performance due to the more complex structure of recognizing corresponding text. However, applying traditional OCR techniques usually introduced shortcomings like the expensive computational cost, vulnerability to image noises and artificial interferences, especially for Chinese image spam filtering. So, by optimizing recognition procedure of traditional OCR, we propose the idea of pseudo-OCR more suitable for Chinese image spam filtering. During which discriminating the potential image spam character features from ham ones is sufficient, instead of recognizing them. What's more, a novel Chinese key-point based character feature specific for pseudo-OCR is also devised and extracted using a carefully designed algorithm, which outperforms classic corner detection methods in finding such key-points. | 6 | Potential methane and nitrous oxide production and respiration rates from penguin and seal colony tundra soils during freezing–thawing cycles under different water contents in coastal Antarctica显示文摘In coastal Antarctica, frequent freezing–thawing cycles(FTCs) and changes to the hydrological conditions may affect methane(CH_4) and nitrous oxide(N_2O) production and respiration rates in tundra soils, which are difficult to observe in situ. Tundra soils including ornithogenic tundra soil(OAS), seal colony soil(SCS) and emperor penguin colony soil(EPS) were collected. In laboratory, we investigated the effects of FTCs and water addition on potential N_2O and CH_4 production and respiration rates in the soils. The CH_4 fluxes from OAS and SCS were much less than that from EPS. Meanwhile, the N_2O fluxes from OAS and EPS were much less than that from SCS. The N_2O production rates from all soils were extremely low during freezing, but rapidly increased following thawing. In all cases, FTC also induced considerably enhanced soil respiration, indicating that soil respiration response was sensitive to the FTCs. The highest cumulative rates of CH_4, N_2O and CO_2 were 59.5 mg CH_4-C·kg^(-1) in EPS, 6268.8 μg N_2O-N·kg^(-1) in SCS and 3522.1 mg CO_2-C·kg^(-1) in OAS. Soil water addition had no significant effects on CH_4 production and respiration rates, but it could reduce N_2O production in OAS and EPS, and it stimulated N_2O production in SCS. Overall, CH_4 and N_2O production rates showed a trade-off relationship during the three FTCs. | 7 | Alkaline phosphatase activity in ornithogenic soils in polar tundra显示文摘Phosphatase plays an important role in the microbial liberation of phosphorus in soil systems.In this study,alkaline phosphatase activity (APA) was investigated from tundra ornithogenic soil profiles in Antarctica and Arctic.The organic carbon (TOC),total nitrogen (TN),and phosphorus fractions and pH were also analyzed in these soils.The correlation between APA and soil chemical properties is discussed.In almost all the soil profiles,APA showed the same variation patterns.The maximum APA appeared in the surface layers,and decreased with soil depth.The APA ranged from 1.00 ppm to 1 403.5 ppm with an average of approximately 408.3 ppm.The APA showed a significant positive correlation with TOC (r =0.70,p <0.001),TN (r =0.43,p =0.002),total phosphorus (r =0.39,p <0.05)and inorganic phosphorus (r =0.40,p =0.037),indicating that they were predominant factors affecting APA in the polar tundra soils.In addition,APA showed a significant negative correlation with Cu and Zn concentrations in the soils,indicating that Cu and Zn may inhibit APA.Our results showed that APA could be used as an important indicator for soil fertility in polar tundra ecosystems. | MA DaWei ZHU RenBin DING Wei SUN JianJun LIU YaShu SUN LiGuang | 2011 | Advances in Polar Science2011,22,2: | 2 |
| 8 | In vitro assay of cytoskeleton nanomechanics as a tool for screening potential anticancer effects of natural plant extract, tubeimoside I on human hepatoma (HepG2) cells显示文摘Cytoskeleton nanomechanics characterizes cancer cell's physical behaviors such as how it spread and invade. For anticancer drug, cytoskeleton nanomechanics may be a target to inhibit invasiveness and metastasis of cancer cells. Therefore, in vitro assay of cytoskeleton nanomechanics may be used to evaluate the effects of potential anticancer drug on various cancer types. Here, we investigated the effects of tubeimoside I (TBMS I) on human hepatoma (HepG2) cells by using optical magnetic twisting cytometry, a well-established technique for measuring nanomechanics of the Factin cytoskeleton. TBMS I is a natural compound extracted from a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, and is reported with antitumor effect. In this study, we demonstrated that the cytoskeleton stiffness (G) of HepG2 cells was affected by TBMS I. G′ exhibited a typical power law with respect to the loading frequency (f), i.e. G^f . The magnitude of G′ and the value of exponent (α) of the HepG2 cells decreased consistently with the increase of concentration for TBMS I exposure. In addition, the HepG2 cells responded to TBMS I much faster than the normal liver (L-02) cells. Such alteration of cytoskeleton nanomechanics induced by TBMS I was reported for the first time, which was further corroborated by assays of Factin cytoskeleton structure and cell migration.
