| 1 | Mesozoic contraction deformation in the Yanshan and northern Taihang mountains and its implications to the destruction of the North China Craton显示文摘Mesozoic contraction deformation in the Yanshan and Taihang mountains is characterized by basement-involved thrust tectonics,basement-cored buckling anticlines and ductile thrust and nappe tectonics.Most of these deformations are orientated west-east,west-northwest and northeast to north-northeast.The contraction deformations began in the Permian,continued through the Triassic and Jurassic and terminated in the Early Cretaceous,and constitute an important part of the destruction of the North China Craton.It is estimated,from balanced cross-section reconstructions,that the north-south shortening of the central part of the Yanshan belt before 135 Ma was around 38%.The initial crust thickness,pre-dating the major contraction deformation in late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic,was estimated to be around 35 km based on paleogeographic characteristics.Assuming that the inferred depth of ductile thrusting deformation,20-25 km,was the crust thickness involved in the contraction deformation,and also assuming that the N-S contraction deformation was accommodated by vertical crust thickening,the thickness of the crust after the contraction deformation was expected to be around 47-50 km.This was the approximate crust thickness required for the eclogitization of the lower crust for delamination.The gravity potential accumulated by the isostatic uplift of the thickened crust,together with the decrease in crustal strength caused by the coeval magmatisms associated with the contraction deformation,led to the subsequent extensional collapse of the middle and upper crust although the regional stress regime associated with the plate interactions remained constant.It is inferred that the Mesozoic contraction deformations in the Yanshan and Taihang mountains were not only a significant tectonic process contributing to the destruction of the craton in middle and upper crust but also stimulated delamination at a deep level and the extension of the shallow crust.In other words,both the suspected delamination of the lower crust and upper mantle and the well constrained extension deformations of the shallow crust in the eastern North China Craton during the late Mesozoic are a consequence of crust thickening due to previous contractions.Extensional deformations could be expected to occur independently in the shallow crust,and are not necessarily associated with or responding to delamination at a deep level. | ZHANG ChangHou LI ChengMing DENG HongLing LIU Yang LIU Lei WEI Bo LI HanBin LIU Zi | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,6: | 40 |
| 2 | Study on Multi-Scale Blending Initial Condition Perturbations for a Regional Ensemble Prediction System显示文摘An initial conditions(ICs) perturbation method was developed with the aim to improve an operational regional ensemble prediction system(REPS). Three issues were identified and investigated:(1) the impacts of perturbation scale on the ensemble spread and forecast skill of the REPS;(2) the scale characteristic of the IC perturbations of the REPS; and(3) whether the REPS's skill could be improved by adding large-scale information to the IC perturbations. Numerical experiments were conducted to reveal the impact of perturbation scale on the ensemble spread and forecast skill. The scales of IC perturbations from the REPS and an operational global ensemble prediction system(GEPS) were analyzed. | 3 | Potential Hazards of Eruptions around the Tianchi Caldera Lake, China显示文摘Since the eruption of the Tianchi volcano about 1000 years ago, there have been at least 3 to 5 eruptions of small to moderate size. In addition, hazardous avalanches, rock falls and debris flows have occurred during periods between eruptions. A future eruption of the Tianchi volcano is likely to involve explosive interaction between magma and the caldera lake. The volume of erupted magma is almost in a range of 0.1-0.5 km3. Tephra fallout may damage agriculture in a large area near the volcano. If only 1% of the lake water were ejected during an eruption and then precipitated over an area of 200 km2, the average rainfall would be 100 mm. Moreover, lahars are likely to occur as both tephra and water ejected from the caldera lake fall onto flanks of the volcano. | 4 | Heterostructured Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Under Alkaline Conditions显示文摘The hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) is a half-cell reaction in water electrolysis for producing hydrogen gas. In industrial water electrolysis, the HER is often conducted in alkaline media to achieve higher stability of the electrode materials. However, the kinetics of the HER in alkaline medium is slow relative to that in acid because of the low concentration of protons in the former.Under the latter conditions, the entire HER process will require additional effort to obtain protons by water dissociation near or on the catalyst surface. Heterostructured catalysts, with fascinating synergistic effects derived from their heterogeneous interfaces, can provide multiple functional sites for the overall reaction process. At present, the activity of the most active known heterostructured catalysts surpasses(platinum-based heterostructures) or approaches (noble-metal-free heterostructures) that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst under alkaline conditions, demonstrating an infusive potential to break through the bottlenecks. This review summarizes the most representative and recent heterostructured HER catalysts for alkaline medium. The basics and principles of the HER under alkaline conditions are first introduced, followed by a discussion of the latest advances in heterostructured catalysts with/without noblemetal-based heterostructures. Special focus is placed on approaches for enhancing the reaction rate by accelerating the Volmer step. | 6 | Strength and Stability Analysis of Deep Sea Drilling Risers显示文摘In order to analyze the influence of vortex-induced vibration on the strength and stability of marine drilling risers, a simplified analytical model was established and a method for calculating vortex-induced dynamic response was developed. A case study indicated that at primary resonance, first-order dynamic displacement response is greater than higher-order mode responses, but the influence of dynamic moment and shearing force of higher-order modes cannot be ignored. The natural frequency of risers decreased sharply with increasing length of the riser, but increased with increasing top tension. | 9 | Effects of annealing temperature and time on microstructure and magnetic properties of Pr-Co thin films显示文摘A series of Pr-Co thin films were deposited on the Si (100) substrates with Cr underlayer by magnetron sputtering. The effects of both the post-annealing temperature and the annealing time on the microstructure and magnetic properties for the Pr-Co films were studied systemati- cally. The as-deposited Pr-Co thin films are mostly amorphous and tend to crystallize after annealing at temperatures above 600 C. When the annealing time is increased, the films show a complicated structure with various phases coexisting. Accordingly, the as-deposited film and low temperature annealed films are soft magnets and films annealed at temperatures beyond 600 C tend to be hard magnets. When the annealing time is increased from 5 min to 2 h, the films transfer from hard magnets to soft again. | 13 | Bulk nanocrystalline Al prepared by cryomilling显示文摘Bulk nanocrystalline Al was fabricated by mechanically milling at cryogenic temperature (cryomilling) and then by hot pressing in vacuum. By using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the microstructure evolution of the material during cryomilling and consolidation was investigated. With increasing the mill- ing time, the grain size decreased sharply and reduced to 42 nm when cryomilled for 12 h. The grains had grown up, and the colum- nar grain was formed under the hot pressing and extrusion compared with the cryomilled powders. The grain size of as-extruded specimen was approximately 300-500 nm. The reason of high thermal stability of this bulk was attributed primarily to the Zener pin- ning from the grain boundary of the AlN arising from cryomilling and the solute drag of the impurity. Tensile tests show that the strength of nanocrystalline Al is enhanced with decreasing grain size. The ultimate tensile strength and tensile elongation were 173 MPa and 17.5%, respectively. | 14 | A New Record of Kaloula(Amphibia: Anura: Microhylidae) in Shanghai, China显示文摘We discovered a medium-sized species of narrow-mouthed frog of the genus Kaloula in June and September 2014 during municipal surveys of amphibians in Shanghai. Three narrow-mouthed frogs were collected in city drains of the Binjiang Forest Park, Shanghai. Based on subsequent examination and morphological characters, these specimens were identified as Kaloula borealis(Barbour, 1908). The species was mainly distributed in Northern China and Korea. It is a new amphibian record for Shanghai. We found the visible differences in male secondary sexual characteristics between our specimens and Beijing specimens. | 15 | Life cycle carbon emission assessment of a multi-purpose university building:A case study of Sri Lanka显示文摘Buildings are known to significantly affect the global carbon emissions throughout their life cycle. To mitigate carbon emissions, investigation of the current performance of buildings with regard to energy consumption and carbon emissions is necessary. This paper presents a process-based life cycle assessment methodology for assessing carbon emissions of buildings, using a multistorey reinforced concrete building in a Sri Lankan university as a case study. The entire cradle-to-grave building life cycle was assessed and the life span of the building was assumed as 50 years. The results provide evidence of the significance of operation and material production stages, which contributed to the total carbon emissions by 63.22% and 31.59% respectively. Between them, the main structural materials, concrete and reinforcement steel made up 61.91% of the total carbon emitted at the material production stage. The life cycle carbon emissions of the building were found to be 31.81 kg·m^(–2) CO_2 per year, which is comparable with the values obtained in similar studies found in the literature. In minimizing the life cycle carbon emissions, the importance of identifying control measures for both building operation and material production at the early design stage were emphasized. Although the other life cycle stages only contributed to about 5.19% of the life cycle carbon emissions, they should also receive attention when formulating control strategies. | 17 | CFD simulation on the gasification of asphalt water slurry in an entrained flow gasifier显示文摘Gasification technology is suggested to utilize asphalt particles, which are produced in the heavy oil deep separation process of using coupled low temperature separation of solvent and post extraction residue. In this work, the asphalt particles were first slurried with water and then gasified to produce synthesis gas. The gasification process of asphalt water slurry in an entrained flow gasifier was simulated using a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model based on an EulerianLagrangian method. The trajectories and residence time of asphalt particles, and the reaction rates, gas species distribution, temperature field and carbon conversion in the entrained flow gasifier were obtained. The predicted results indicated that the asphalt water slurry was a good feedstock for gasification. Moreover, the effects of particle size, oxygen equivalence ratio, and mass content of asphalt particles on the gasification performance of asphalt water slurry were investigated. | 18 | Shugan Huoxue Huayu Fang(疏肝活血化瘀方)attenuates carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats by inhibiting transforming growth factor-β1/Smad signaling显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the potential mechanism by which Shugan Huoxue Huayu Fang(疏肝活血化瘀方,SGHXHYF)ameliorates liver fibrosis.METHODS:Liver fibrosis was induced in rats by intraperitoneal injection of carbon tetrachloride(CCl_(4))in peanut oil solution(40%,3 m L/kg body weight)twice a week for 8 weeks.A normal control group received the same volume of peanut oil alone.During weeks 5-8,the CCl_(4)-injected rat groups were administered saline(vehicle control),colchicine(0.1 mg/mL,1 mg/kg,positive control),or SGHXHYF(0.1 mg/mL;0.3,0.6 and 1.2 mg/kg)once daily by oral gavage.Rats were sacrificed 24 h after the last treatment.Blood samples were collected for measurement of serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),albumin(ALB),collagenⅠ,and collagenⅢlevels.Liver samples were analyzed by histopathological staining,Masson's staining of extracellular matrix proteins,and immune-ohistochemical staining ofα-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA).TGF-β1/Smad protein and mRNA levels were analyzed by Western blot and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis,respectively.In vitro experiments were also performed using rat hepatic stellate cells(HSCs).RESULTS:Compared with the control animals,CCl_(4)-exposed rats exhibited elevated serum levels of ALT,AST,ALP,collagenⅠ,and collagenⅢ;reduced serum levels of ALB;and increased collagen deposition andα-SMA expression in liver sections,reflecting liver fibrosis.CCl_(4) also increased expression of TGF-β1 and the activated(phosphorylated)forms of Smad2 and Smad3 but reduced expression of the negative regulator Smad7 in the liver.Notably,concomitant administration of SGHXHYF to CCl_(4)-exposed rats was found to significantly reverse or abolish the pro-fibrotic effects of CCl_(4) in the liver and reduced serum transferase levels.Analysis of HSCs in vitro confirmed that,mechanistically,SGHXHYF inhibited activation of the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway by downregulating phosphorylated Smad2 and Smad3 and upregulating Smad7 levels.CONCLUSION:SGHXHYF ameliorated CCl_(4)-induced liver fibrosis by inhibiting the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway.These findings suggest that SGHXHYF may have clinical utility for the treatment or prevention of liver fibrosis. | LIU Lei GUO Hanbin SHAO Cuiping WANG Lin XU Youqing ZHOU Yiming | 2022 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2022,42,1: | 2 |

| 20 | Oxygen‑Defect Enhanced Anion Adsorption Energy Toward Super‑Rate and Durable Cathode for Ni–Zn Batteries显示文摘The alkaline zinc-based batteries with high energy density are becoming a research hotspot.However,the poor cycle stability and low-rate performance limit their wide application.Herein,ultra-thin CoNiO2 nanosheet with rich oxygen defects anchored on the vertically arranged Ni nanotube arrays(Od-CNO@Ni NTs)is used as a positive material for rechargeable alkaline Ni–Zn batteries.As the highly uniform Ni nanotube arrays provide a fast electron/ion transport path and abundant active sites,the Od-CNO@Ni NTs electrode delivers excellent capacity(432.7 mAh g^(−1))and rate capability(218.3 mAh g^(−1) at 60 A g^(−1)).Moreover,our Od-CNO@Ni NTs//Zn battery is capable of an ultra-long lifespan(93.0%of initial capacity after 5000 cycles),extremely high energy density of 547.5 Wh kg^(−1) and power density of 92.9 kW kg^(−1)(based on the mass of cathode active substance).Meanwhile,the theoretical calculations reveal that the oxygen defects can enhance the interaction between electrode surface and electrolyte ions,contributing to higher capacity.This work opens a reasonable idea for the development of ultra-durable,ultra-fast,and high-energy Ni–Zn battery. | Jia Yao Houzhao Wan Chi Chen Jie Ji Nengze Wang Zhaohan Zheng Jinxia Duan Xunying Wang Guokun Ma Li Tao Hanbin Wang Jun Zhang Hao Wang | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,11: | 2 |
