1Sensing for advancing mining automation capability:A review of underground automation technology development显示文摘This paper highlights the role of automation technologies for improving the safety, productivity, and environmental sustainability of underground coal mining processes. This is accomplished by reviewing the impact that the introduction of automation technology has made through the longwall shearer automation research program of Longwall Automation Steering Committee(LASC). This result has been achieved through close integration of sensing, processing, and control technologies into the longwall mining process. Key to the success of the automation solution has been the development of new sensing methods to accurately measure the location of longwall equipment and the spatial configuration of coal seam geology. The relevance of system interoperability and open communications standards for facilitating effective automation is also discussed. 3Treatment technologies for aqueous perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoate (PFOA)显示文摘Fluorochemicals(FCs)are oxidatively recalcitrant,environmentally persistent,and resistant to most conventional treatment technologies.FCs have unique physiochemical properties derived from fluorine which is the most electronegative element.Perfluorooctanesulfonate(PFOS),and perfluorooctanoate(PFOA)have been detected globally in the hydrosphere,atmosphere and biosphere.Reducing treatment technologies such as reverses osmosis,nano-filtration and activated carbon can remove FCs from water.However,incineration of the concentrated waste is required for complete FC destruction.Recently,a number of alternative technologies for FC decomposition have been reported.The FC degradation technologies span a wide range of chemical processes including direct photolysis,photocatalytic oxidation,photochemical oxidation,photochemical reduction,thermally-induced reduction,and sonochemical pyrolysis.This paper reviews these FC degradation technologies in terms of kinetics,mechanism,energetic cost,and applicability.The optimal PFOS/PFOA treatment method is strongly dependent upon the FC concentration,background organic and metal concentration,and available degradation time.Chad D.VECITIS Hyunwoong PARK Jie CHENG Brian T.MADER Michael R.HOFFMANN 2009Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2009,3,2:26

5Upper-gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to peptic ulcer disease:Incidence and outcomes显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the incidence,surgery,mortality,and readmission of upper gastrointestinal bleeding(UGIB)secondary to peptic ulcer disease(PUD).METHODS:Administrative databases identified all hospitalizations for UGIB secondary to PUD in Alberta,Canada from 2004 to 2010(n=7079)using the International Classification of Diseases Codes(ICD-10).A subset of the data was validated using endoscopy reports.Positive predictive value and sensitivity with 95%confidence intervals(CI)were calculated.Incidence of UGIB secondary to PUD was calculated.Logistic regression was used to evaluate surgery,in-hospital mortality,and 30-d readmission to hospital with recurrent UGIB secondary to PUD.Co-variants accounted for in our logistic regression model included:age,sex,area of residence(i.e.,urban vs rural),number of Charlson comorbidities,presence of perforated PUD,undergoing upper endoscopy,year of admission,and interventional radiological attempt at controlling bleeding.A subgroup analysis(n=6356)compared outcomes of patients with gastric ulcers to those with duodenal ulcers.Adjusted estimates are presented as odds ratios(OR)with95%CI.RESULTS:The positive predictive value and sensitivity of ICD-10 coding for UGIB secondary to PUD were85.2%(95%CI:80.2%-90.2%)and 77.1%(95%CI:69.1%-85.2%),respectively.The annual incidence between 2004 and 2010 ranged from 35.4 to 41.2 per100000.Overall risk of surgery,in-hospital mortality,and 30-d readmission to hospital for UGIB secondary to PUD were 4.3%,8.5%,and 4.7%,respectively.Interventional radiology to control bleeding was performed in 0.6%of patients and 76%of these patients avoided surgical intervention.Thirty-day readmission significantly increased from 3.1%in 2004 to 5.2%in 2010(OR=1.07;95%CI:1.01-1.14).Rural residents(OR rural vs urban:2.35;95%CI:1.83-3.01)and older individuals(OR≥65 vs<65:1.57;95%CI:1.21-2.04)were at higher odds of being readmitted to hospital.Patients with duodenal ulcers had higher odds of dying(OR=1.27;95%CI:1.05-1.53),requiring surgery(OR=1.73;95%CI:1.34-2.23),and being readmitted to hospital(OR=1.54;95%CI:1.19-1.99)when compared to gastric ulcers.CONCLUSION:UGIB secondary to PUD,particularly duodenal ulcers,was associated with significant morbidity and mortality.Early readmissions increased over time and occurred more commonly in rural areas.Samuel Quan Alexandra Frolkis Kaylee Milne Natalie Molodecky Hong Yang Elijah Dixon Chad G Ball Robert P Myers Subrata Ghosh Robert Hilsden Sander Veldhuyzen van Zanten Gilaad G Kaplan 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,46:21

7Fibroblast growth factor(FGF)signaling in development and skeletal diseases显示文摘Fibroblast growth factors(FGF)and their receptors serve many functions in both the developing and adult organism.Humans contain 18 FGF ligands and four FGF receptors(FGFR).FGF ligands are polypeptide growth factors that regulate several developmental processes including cellular proliferation,differentiation,and migration,morphogenesis,and patterning.FGF-FGFR signaling is also critical to the developing axial and craniofacial skeleton.In particular,the signaling cascade has been implicated in intramembranous ossification of cranial bones as well as cranial suture homeostasis.In the adult,FGFs and FGFRs are crucial for tissue repair.FGF signaling generally follows one of three transduction pathways:RAS/MAP kinase,PI3/AKT,or PLCg.Each pathway likely regulates specific cellular behaviors.Inappropriate expression of FGF and improper activation of FGFRs are associated with various pathologic conditions,unregulated cell growth,and tumorigenesis.Additionally,aberrant signaling has been implicated in many skeletal abnormalities including achondroplasia and craniosynostosis.The biology and mechanisms of the FGF family have been the subject of significant research over the past 30 years.Recently,work has focused on the therapeutic targeting and potential of FGF ligands and their associated receptors.The majority of FGF-related therapy is aimed at age-related disorders.Increased understanding of FGF signaling and biology may reveal additional therapeutic roles,both in utero and postnatally.This review discusses the role of FGF signaling in general physiologic and pathologic embryogenesis and further explores it within the context of skeletal development.Chad M.Teven Evan M.Farina Jane Rivas Russell R.Reid 2014Genes & Diseases2014,1,2:14
8Longwall automation:trends,challenges and opportunities显示文摘This paper explores the ongoing development and implementation of longwall automation technology to achieve greater levels of underground coal mining performance. The primary driver behind the research and development effort is to increase the safety, productivity and efficiency of longwall mining operations to enhance the underlying mining business. A brief review of major longwall automation challenges is given followed by a review of the insights and benefits associated with the LASC longwall shearer automation solution. 10Clarifying sub-genomic positions of QTLs for flowering habit and fruit quality in U.S. strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa) breeding populations using pedigree-based QTL analysis显示文摘The cultivated strawberry(Fragaria×ananassa)is consumed worldwide for its flavor and nutritional benefits.Genetic analysis of commercially important traits in strawberry are important for the development of breeding methods and tools for this species.Although several quantitative trait loci(QTL)have been previously detected for fruit quality and flowering traits using low-density genetic maps,clarity on the sub-genomic locations of these QTLs was missing.Recent discoveries in allo-octoploid strawberry genomics led to the development of the IStraw90 single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)array,enabling high-density genetic maps and finer resolution QTL analysis.In this study,breeder-specified traits were evaluated in the Eastern(Michigan)and Western(Oregon)United States for a common set of breeding populations during 2 years.Several QTLs were validated for soluble solids content(SSC),fruit weight(FWT),pH and titratable acidity(TA)using a pedigree-based QTL analysis approach.For fruit quality,a QTL for SSC on linkage group(LG)6A,a QTL for FWT on LG 2BII,a QTL for pH on LG 4CII and two QTLs for TA on LGs 2A and 5B were detected.In addition,a large-effect QTL for flowering was detected at the distal end of LG 4A,coinciding with the FaPFRU locus.Marker haplotype analysis in the FaPFRU region indicated that the homozygous recessive genotype was highly predictive of seasonal flowering.SNP probes in the FaPFRU region may help facilitate marker-assisted selection for this trait.Sujeet Verma Jason D Zurn Natalia Salinas Megan M Mathey Beatrice Denoyes James F Hancock Chad E Finn Nahla V Bassil Vance M Whitaker 2017Horticulture Research2017,4,1:10

13Re–Os Dating of Bitumen from Paleo–Oil Reservoir in the Qinglong Antimony Deposit, Guizhou Province, China and Its Geological Significance显示文摘Abundant organic inclusions are present in the Qinglong antimony deposit. However, the source rocks of these organic matters have not been reliably identified. Recently, a paleo–oil reservoir was found in the Qinglong antimony deposit. In view of similar components of gaseous hydrocarbon, we propose that the organic matters observed in inclusions in Qinglong antimony deposit would come from this paleo–oil reservoir. We used the Re–Os dating method to determine the age of the bitumen from this paleo–oil reservoir, and obtained an isochron age of 254.3±2.8 Ma. The age indicates that the oilgeneration from source rock occurred in the early Late Permian, earlier than the Sb mineralization age(~148±8.5 Ma) in the Qinglong antimony deposit area. After oil generation from Devonian source rock, first and secondary migration, the crude oil have probably entered into the fractures and pores of volcanic rocks and limestone and formed a paleo–oil reservoir in the western wing of Dachang anticline. As burial process deepened, the crude oil has turned into natural gas, migrates into the core of Dachang anticline and formed a paleo–gas reservoir. The hydrocarbons(including CH_4) in the reservoirs can serve as reducing agent to provide the sulfur required for Sb mineralization through thermal chemical reduction of sulfates. 19Chromosome-scale scaffolding of the black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis L.) genome based on chromatin interaction data显示文摘Black raspberry(Rubus occidentalis L.)is a niche fruit crop valued for its flavor and potential health benefits.The improvement of fruit and cane characteristics via molecular breeding technologies has been hindered by the lack of a high-quality reference genome.The recently released draft genome for black raspberry(ORUS 4115-3)lacks assembly of scaffolds to chromosome scale.We used high-throughput chromatin conformation capture(Hi-C)and Proximity-Guided Assembly(PGA)to cluster and order 9650 out of 11,936 contigs of this draft genome assembly into seven pseudo-chromosomes.The seven pseudo-chromosomes cover~97.2%of the total contig length(~223.8 Mb).Locating existing genetic markers on the physical map resolved multiple discrepancies in marker order on the genetic map.Centromeric regions were inferred from recombination frequencies of genetic markers,alignment of 303 bp centromeric sequence with the PGA,and heat map showing the physical contact matrix over the entire genome.We demonstrate a high degree of synteny between each of the seven chromosomes of black raspberry and a high-quality reference genome for strawberry(Fragaria vesca L.)assembled using only PacBio long-read sequences.We conclude that PGA is a cost-effective and rapid method of generating chromosome-scale assemblies from Illumina short-read sequencing data.Rubina Jibran Helge Dzierzon Nahla Bassil Jill M.Bushakra Patrick P.Edger Shawn Sullivan Chad E.Finn Michael Dossett Kelly J.Vining Robert VanBuren Todd C.Mockler Ivan Liachko Kevin M.Davies Toshi M.Foster David Chagné 2018Horticulture Research2018,5,1:4
