| 3 | Different approaches to caudate lobectomy with“curettage and aspiration”technique using a special instrument PMOD:A Report of 76 cases显示文摘AIM: To study different approaches to caudate lobectomy with 'curettage and aspiration' technique using Peng's multifunctional operative dissector (PMOD). The surgical procedure of isolated complete caudate lobectomy was specially discussed.METHODS: In 76 cases of various types of caudate lobectomy, three approaches were used including left side approach, right side approach, and anterior approach.Among the 76 cases, isolated complete caudate lobectomy was carried out in 6 cases with transhepatic anterior approach. The surgical procedure consisted of mobilization of the total liver, ligation and separation of the short hepatic veins, splitting the liver parenchyma through the Cantlie's plane, ligation and division of the caudate portal triads from the hilum, dissection of the root of major hepatic veins,detachment of the caudate lobe from liver parenchyma.RESULTS: The mean operative time was 285±51 min,the mean blood loss was 1 600 mi. No severe complications were observed. Among the 6 cases receiving isolated complete caudate lobectomy with transhepatic anterior approach, one case died 17 months after operation due to disease recurrence and liver failure, the other 5 cases have been alive without recurrence, with one longest survival of 49 months.CONCLUSION: The choice of approach is essential to the success of caudate lobectomy. | 4 | Different contributions of STAT3, ERK1/2, and PI3-K signaling to cardiomyocyte hypertrophy by cardiotrophin-1显示文摘AIM: To assess the contribution of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(JAK-STAT3) pathway, extracellular signal-regulated kinases1/2 (ERK1/2) pathway, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-K) pathway to cardiomyocytes hypertrophy induced by cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1), a new member of interleukin-6 (IL-6) family of cytokines. METHODS: STAT3, ERK1/2, and PI3-K were assessed by Western blot analysis. Activity of ERK1/2 was also confirmed by in-gel kinase assay. Hypertrophy of cardiomyocyte was evaluated by [^3H]leucine incorporation and cellular protein-to-DNA ratio. RESULTS: CT-1 simultaneously activated phosphorylation of STAT3, ERK1/2, and PI3-K in rat cardiomyocytes. Parthenolide, an inhibitor of STAT, suppressed CT-1-induced [^3H]leucine incorporation by 88.3% and protein-to-DNA ratio by 75.0%. U0126, an MEK1/2 inhibitor, increased CT-1-induced the phosphorylation of STAT3 in a dose-dependent manner and, consistently, augmented CT-1-induced increase in [^3H]leucine incorporation and cellular protein-to-DNA ratio by 17.6% and 16.3%, respectively. Wortmannin, a PI3-K inhibitor, did not influence CT-1-induced [^3H]leucine incorporation and cellular protein-to-DNA ratio. CONCLUSION: The hypertrophic effect of CT-1 was essentially mediated by STAT3, independent of PI3-K, and negatively regulated by ERK1/2 via inhibiting the phosphorylation of STAT3. | 5 | QTL mapping of the root traits and their correlation analysis with drought resis-tance using DH lines from paddy and upland rice cross显示文摘A Double Haploid (DH) population, 116 plants, derived from the cross between Japonica upland rice IRAT109 and paddy rice Yuefu, planted in PVC pipe under upland ecosystem in 2001 and 2002, was used in this study. Seven root traits, including basal root thickness (BRT), total root number (RN), maximum root length (MRL), root fresh weight (RFW), root dry weight (RDW), ratio of root fresh weight to shoot fresh weight (RFW/SFW) and ratio of root dry weight to shoot dry weight (RDW/SDW), were studied. Using index of drought resistance (IDR), the ratio of yield under upland ecosystem to yield under lowland ecosystem of DH lines, as the criteria of drought resistance, and correla-tion analysis between root traits and IDR, showed that BRT, MRL and RN were significantly correlated with IDR. High IDR lines had thicker BRT, longer MRL and less RN than low IDR lines. A molecular linkage map with 94 RFLP markers and 71 SSR markers covering 1535.1 cM was pro-duced. QTLs and G譋 interactions for BRT, RN, MRL, RFW, RDW, RFW/SFW and RDW/SDW were obtained based on the constructed molecular linkage map and soft-ware QTLmapper version 1.0. A total of 18 additive QTLs and 18 pairs of epistatic QTLs associated with root traits were detected. There were nine additive QTLs and two pairs of epistatic QTLs performed significant interactions with environment. Some QTLs with high general contribution and no G譋 interaction were obtained. Two pairs of epistatic QTLs mrl3 and mrl8, brt3 and brt11a controlling MRL and BRT had high general contributions of 21.51% and 13.03% respectively. An additive QTL and a pair of epistatic QTLs controlling RFW and RDW had high general contributions of 13.50% and 25.64% respectively. | 6 | Improved complex filter applied in enhancing EFT/B immunity at a coal mine monitoring substation显示文摘A monitoring system is an important guarantee of safety in a production mine. However, not all monitoring substations pass the electrical fast transient/burst (EFT/B) immunity test and the explosion-proof test simultaneously. To enhance the immunity, the values of capacitance and inductance should be increased, which are actually limited by coal mine explosion-proof standards. Hence, for the first time, an active filter was applied in an electromagnetic interference (EMI) output filter. As a result, the interference within 30 MHz clearly weakened, but the frequency spectrum had a wide range. An EMI input filter and ferrite beads were adopted to restrain higher frequency interference. An output interference spectrogram of the substation was obtained with an analyzer. The results indicate that the improved complex filtering markedly help to control interference. With the support of improved complex filtering and other enhancing immunity means about I/O ports, the substation managed to pass both the EFT/B immunity test and the explosion-proof test synchronously. | 7 | Catalysis of Manganese(II) on Chromium(VI) Reduction by Citrate显示文摘The catalysis of manganese(II) (Mn2+) on chromium(VI) (Cr6+) reduction by citrate was studied through batch experiments with the concentration of citrate greatly in excess of Cr6+ at 25℃and in pH ranges of 4.0 to 5.0. Results showed that at pH 4.5 within 22 h direct reduction of Cr6+ by citrate was not observed, but for the same time when Mn2+ (50 to 200μmol L-1) was added, nearly all Cr6+ was reduced, with the higher initial Mn2+ concentration having faster Cr6+ reduction. In the initial stage of the reaction, the Cr6+ reduction could be described with a pseudo-first-order kinetics equation. In the later stage of the reaction, plots of lnc(Cr6+) versus t, where c(Cr6+) is the Cr6+ concentration in the reaction and t is the reaction time, deviated from the initial linear trend. The deviations suggested that the pseudo-first-order kinetics did not apply to the whole experimental period and that some reaction intermediates could have greatly accelerated Cr6+ reduction by citrate. The catalysis of the intermediates increased with the reaction time and gradually reached stability. Then, the plot of lnc(Cr6+) versus t in the presence of Mn2+ was linear again, with the rate constant increasing by 102 times compared with the absence of Mn2+. Complexation between Mn2+ and citrate was likely a prerequisite for the catalysis of Mn2+ on the reaction. | 8 | Successive inverse and normal magnetocaloric effects in the Mn-vacancy compound Mn0.95Co0.75Cu0.25Ge显示文摘Ferromagnetic-structural transformation has been studied widely in MnCoGe-based materials. However, the magnetostructural transition(MST) from antiferromagnetic(AFM) orthorhombic phase to ferromagnetic(FM) hexagonal phase, which may lead to a large inverse magnetocaloric effect(MCE), has rarely been reported. Here, the introduction of Mn vacancy lowers the structural transition temperature while retains the AFM state in the orthorhombic phase, thus successfully realizing the AFM-FM MST in Mn0.95Co0.75Cu0.25Ge. Moreover, successive inverse and normal MCEs are observed around the first-order AFM-FM MST and the second-order FM-paramagnetic(PM) transition, respectively. A thermostat is proposed based on this special feature, which could release heat above the critical temperature while absorb heat below the critical temperature by simply applying the same magnetization/demagnetization cycles. This paper proposes a new message forwarding algorithm to improve the message delivery ratio and reduce the energy consumption. Previous encounter characteristics between nodes are used to estimate future connection duration time using a three point estimation method. In this review, we summarize the most recent advances in the synthesis and application of biomedical polymers, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their property-function relationship for corresponding biomedical applications. In particular, a few burgeoning bioactive polymers, such as peptide/biomembrane/microorganism/cell-based biomedical polymers, are also introduced and highlighted as the emerging biomaterials for cancer precision therapy. Furthermore, the foreseeable challenges and outlook of the development of more efficient, healthier and safer biomedical polymers are discussed.
