3Effects of Y on the Microstructure, Mechanical and Bio-corrosion Properties of Mg-Zn-Ca Bulk Metallic Glass显示文摘The micro-alloying effects of Y on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and bio-corrosion behavior of Mg69-xZn27Ca4Yx(x= 0, 1, 2 at.%) alloys were investigated through X-ray diffraction, compressive tests,electrochemical treatments, and immersion tests. The Mg69Zn27Ca4 alloy was found to be absolutely amorphous, and its glass-forming ability decreased with the addition of Y. The Mg68Zn27Ca4Y1 alloy exhibited an ultrahigh compressive strength above 1010 MPa as well as high capacity for plastic strain above 3.1%.Electrochemical and immersion tests revealed that these Y-doped MgeZ neC a alloys had good bio-corrosion resistance in simulated body fluid(SBF) at 37℃. 4Statistical variances of diffusional properties from ab initio molecular dynamics simulations显示文摘Ab initio molecular dynamics(AIMD)simulation is widely employed in studying diffusion mechanisms and in quantifying diffusional properties of materials.However,AIMD simulations are often limited to a few hundred atoms and a short,sub-nanosecond physical timescale,which leads to models that include only a limited number of diffusion events.As a result,the diffusional properties obtained from AIMD simulations are often plagued by poor statistics.In this paper,we re-examine the process to estimate diffusivity and ionic conductivity from the AIMD simulations and establish the procedure to minimize the fitting errors.In addition,we propose methods for quantifying the statistical variance of the diffusivity and ionic conductivity from the number of diffusion events observed during the AIMD simulation.Since an adequate number of diffusion events must be sampled,AIMD simulations should be sufficiently long and can only be performed on materials with reasonably fast diffusion.We chart the ranges of materials and physical conditions that can be accessible by AIMD simulations in studying diffusional properties.Our work provides the foundation for quantifying the statistical confidence levels of diffusion results from AIMD simulations and for correctly employing this powerful technique.Xingfeng He Yizhou Zhu Alexander Epstein Yifei Mo 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:6

6Anatomical variation of infra-pyloric artery origination: A prospective multicenter observational study (IPA-Origin)显示文摘Objective: Infra-pyloric artery(IPA) is an important anatomical landmark in treatment of gastric cancer and is the key vessel for pylorus-preserving gastrectomy and subgroup of infra-pyloric lymph nodes. However, its anatomical variation is not thoroughly understood. Our study aimed to clarify the origination of the IPA.Methods: We did this prospective, multicenter, open-label, observational study at gastric surgery departments of34 hospitals in China. Gastric cancer patients aged 18 years or older and scheduled to undergo elective total or distal gastrectomy were assigned. During the surgery, IPA dissecting and exposing the origination point with photographs or video clips were required. The primary outcome was the origination of the IPA. Analysis of variance, χ~2 tests and Fisher's tests were used to analyze the differences between groups. The study is registered at Clinicaltrials.gov(No. NCT03071237).Results: Between May 8 and July 31, 2017, 429 patients were assigned for the study, and 419(97.7%) patients had the IPA dissected and recorded through photograph or video and were included in the primary outcome analysis. The median age was 62 years old, and 73.7% were male. Among the patients, 78.5% received laparoscopic surgery. Single IPA origination was identified in 398(95.0%) patients, including gastroduodenal artery(GDA) in154(36.8%) patients, anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery(ASPDA) in 130(31.0%) patients, and right gastroepiploic artery(RGEA) in 114(27.2%) patients. Fifteen(3.6%) patients were identified with multiple IPA and 6(1.4%) patients were identified as IPA absence. The differences in the distribution of surgical approach(P=0.003) and geographic area(P=0.030) were statistically significant. 7Paleomagnetic results from Late Carboniferous to Early Permian rocks in the northern Qiangtang terrane, Tibet, China, and their tectonic implications显示文摘Results of a systematic paleomagnetic study are reported based on Late Carboniferous to Early Permian sedimentary rocks on the north slope of the Tanggula Mountains,in the northern Qiangtang terrane(NQT),Tibet,China.Data revealed that magnetic minerals in limestone samples from the Zarigen Formation(CP^z)are primarily composed of magnetite,while those in sandstone samples from the Nuoribagaribao Formation(Pnr)are dominated by hematite alone,or hematite and magnetite in combination.Progressive thermal,or alternating field,demagnetization allowed us to isolate a stable high temperature component(HTC)in 127 specimens from 16 sites which successfully passed the conglomerate test,consistent with primary remnance.The tilt-corrected mean direction for Late Carboniferous to Early Permian rocks in the northern Qiangtang terrane is D_s=30.2°,I_s=-40.9°,k_s=269.0,a_(95)=2.3°,N=16,which yields a corresponding paleomagnetic pole at 25.7°N,241.5°E(dp/dm=2.8°/1.7°),and a paleolatitude of 23.4°S.Our results,together with previously reported paleomagnetic data,indicate that:(1)the NQT in Tibet,China,was located at a low latitude in the southern hemisphere,and may have belonged to the northern margin of Gondwana during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian;(2)the Paleo-Tethys Ocean was large during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian,and(3)the NQT subsequently moved rapidly northwards,perhaps related to the fact that the Paleo-Tethys Ocean was rapidly contracting from the Late Permian to Late Triassic while the Bangong Lake-Nujiang Ocean,the northern branch of the Neo-Tethys Ocean,expanded rapidly during this time.YANG XingFeng CHENG Xin ZHOU YaNan MA Lun ZHANG XiaoDong YAN ZhaoSheng PENG XiMing SU HaiLun WU HanNing 2017Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,1:5
8Combination of ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser and platelet-rich plasma treatment to improve hypertrophic scars:a retrospective clinical observational study显示文摘Background:Hypertrophic scars are one of the main complications that affect the quality of life of patients after burns.Many methods have been shown to be effective in the treatment of hypertrophic scars,such as ablative fractional CO_(2) laser(AFCL)and platelet-rich plasma(PRP).However,there are few studies on the effect of the combined application of these measures.The purpose of this study was to explore the therapeutic effect of AFCL combined with PRP on hypertrophic burn scars.Methods:A retrospective clinical observation study was conducted on 50 patients with hypertrophic burn scars.The AFCL+PRP group included 31 patients who received AFCL combined with PRP treatment;the AFCL group included 19 patients who received AFCL treatment only.The University of North Carolina 4P Scar Scale(UNC4P)and the Vancouver Scar Scale(VSS)scores that were collected before each treatment were used as indicators of the effectiveness of the previous treatment.The scores recorded at the second,fourth and seventh months were analysed.Results:The demographic data of the 2 groups were not significantly different.Before treatment,therewas no difference in the UNC4P and VSS scores between the 2 groups.Therewas a significant decline in the UNC4P and VSS total scores over 6 months in both groups(p<0.05)and scores in the 2 groups were comparable after 3 and 6 months(p<0.05).UNC4P scores in the AFCL+PRP group decreased from a mean of 8.26 to 2.61(p<0.05)with a concomitant drop in VSS scores from a mean of 11.74 to 6.06(p<0.01).In the AFCL group UNC4P and VSS scores decreased from 7.68 to 4.63(p<0.05)and from 10.89 to 8.16(p<0.05),respectively.The sub-items of these 2 assessments were analysed and the results suggest that AFCL combined with PRP can comprehensively improve scarring.Conclusions:This study shows that PRP is an effective adjunct for AFCL in the treatment of hypertrophic burn scars and that the combination of PRP and AFCL proved to be more useful than AFCL alone.This combination may be a new and effective clinical practice for the treatment of scars.However,larger and higher-level clinical studies are still needed to determine its efficacy and possible mechanisms.Zhanzhan Dai Xiaozhen Lou Tuo Shen Yu Sun Yongqiang Xiao Xingfeng Zheng Xuexin Wang Yu Peng Yukun Guo Yibin Guo Jiannan Wen He Fang Bing Ma Zhaofan Xia 2021Burns & Trauma2021,9,1:4
9Targeting PFKL with penfluridol inhibits glycolysis and suppresses esophageal cancer tumorigenesis in an AMPK/FOXO3a/BIM-dependent manner显示文摘As one of the hallmarks of cancer,metabolic reprogramming leads to cancer progression,and targeting glycolytic enzymes could be useful strategies for cancer therapy.By screening a small molecule library consisting of 1320 FDA-approved drugs,we found that penfluridol,an antipsychotic drug used to treat schizophrenia,could inhibit glycolysis and induce apoptosis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).Gene profiling and Ingenuity Pathway Analysis suggested the important role of AMPK in action mechanism of penfluridol.By using drug affinity responsive target stability(DARTS)technology and proteomics,we identified phosphofructokinase,liver type(PFKL),a key enzyme in glycolysis,as a direct target of penfluridol.Penfluridol could not exhibit its anticancer property in PFKL-deficient cancer cells,illustrating that PFKL is essential for the bioactivity of penfluridol.High PFKL expression is correlated with advanced stages and poor survival of ESCC patients,and silencing of PFKL significantly suppressed tumor growth.Mechanistically,direct binding of penfluridol and PFKL inhibits glucose consumption,lactate and ATP production,leads to nuclear translocation of FOXO3a and subsequent transcriptional activation of BIM in an AMPK-dependent manner.Taken together,PFKL is a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in ESCC,and penfluridol may be a new therapeutic option for management of this lethal disease.Cancan Zheng Xiaomei Yu Yiyao Liang Yidong Zhu Yan He Long Liao Dingkang Wang Yanming Yang Xingfeng Yin Ang Li Qingyu He Bin Li 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,3:4
10Metamaterial-enabled arbitrary on-chip spatial mode manipulation显示文摘On-chip spatial mode operation,represented as mode-division multiplexing(MDM),can support high-capacity data communications and promise superior performance in various systems and numerous applications from optical sensing to nonlinear and quantum optics.However,the scalability of state-of-the-art mode manipulation techniques is significantly hindered not only by the particular mode-order-oriented design strategy but also by the inherent limitations of possibly achievable mode orders.Recently,metamaterials capable of providing subwavelength-scale control of optical wavefronts have emerged as an attractive alternative to manipulate guided modes with compact footprints and broadband functionalities.Herein,we propose a universal yet efficient design framework based on the topological metamaterial building block(BB),enabling the excitation of arbitrary high-order spatial modes in silicon waveguides.By simply programming the layout of multiple fully etched dielectric metamaterial perturbations with predefined mathematical formulas,arbitrary high-order mode conversion and mode exchange can be simultaneously realized with uniform and competitive performance.The extraordinary scalability of the metamaterial BB frame is experimentally benchmarked by a record high-order mode operator up to the twentieth.As a proof of conceptual application,an 8-mode MDM data transmission of 28-GBaud 16-QAM optical signals is also verified with an aggregate data rate of 813 Gb/s(7%FEC).This user-friendly metamaterial BB concept marks a quintessential breakthrough for comprehensive manipulation of spatial light on-chip by breaking the long-standing shackles on the scalability,which may open up fascinating opportunities for complex photonic functionalities previously inaccessible.Jinlong Xiang Zhiyuan Tao Xingfeng Li Yaotian Zhao Yu He Xuhan Guo Yikai Su 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7:2

12Characterization on the formation of porosity and tensile properties prediction in die casting Mg alloys显示文摘The 3D visualization of the porosity in high-pressure die casting(HPDC)Mg alloys AZ91D and Mg4Ce2Al0.5Mn(EA42)was investigated by X-ray computed tomography.It was demonstrated that the volumetric porosity at the near-gate location for alloy EA42 was significantly higher than that far from the gate location.This difference resulted from the low valid time during intensified casting pressure conditions.Specimens of alloy EA42 exhibited a narrow pore distribution in the side view(~0.5 mm)compared to the wide distribution(~1.8 mm)of alloy AZ91D,which was mainly attributed to the formation mechanism of the defect band.The formation of microporosity in the defect band of alloy EA42 was inhibited because of the significant latent heat released by a large amount of the Al11Ce3phase segregated in the defect band during solidification.Additionally,an effective estimator(Z-Propagation)was introduced,which is proposed to predict the projected area fraction of the porosity(f)involved during tensile failure with better effectiveness compared with traditional methods based on the actual fractured surface.By coupling the Z-Propagation method with the critical local strain model,the logarithmic fracture strain and true fracture stress of the specimens were predicted within 3.03%and 1.65%of the absolute value of the average relative error(AARE),respectively.Zixin Li Dejiang Li Wenke Zhou Bo Hu Xingfeng Zhao Jingya Wang Ming Qin Jiangkun Xu Xiaoqin Zeng 2022Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,7:2

14Plasticity of Sniffing Pattern and Neural Activity in the Olfactory Bulb of Behaving Mice During Odor Sampling,Anticipation,and Reward显示文摘The olfactory bulb(OB) is the first relay station in the olfactory system.In the OB,mitral/tufted cells(M/Ts),which are the main output neurons,play important roles in the processing and representation of odor information.Recent studies focusing on the function of M/Ts at the single-cell level in awake behaving mice have demonstrated that odor-evoked firing of single M/Ts displays transient/long-term plasticity during learning.Here,we tested whether the neural activity of M/Ts and sniffing patterns are dependent on anticipation and reward in awake behaving mice.We used an odor discrimination task combined with in vivo electrophysiological recordings in awake,head-fixed mice,and found that,while learning induced plasticity of spikes and beta oscillations during odor sampling,we also found plasticity of spikes,beta oscillation,sniffing pattern,and coherence between sniffing and theta oscillations during the periods of anticipation and/or reward.These results indicate that the activity of M/Ts plays important roles not only in odor representation but also in salience-related events such as anticipation and reward.Penglai Liu Tiantian Cao Jinshan Xu Xingfeng Mao Dejuan Wang Anan Li 2020Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,6:2
15Spatial variation in egg polymorphism among cuckoo hosts across 4 continents显示文摘Although egg color polymorphism has evolved as an effective defensive adaptation to brood parasitism,spatial variations in egg color polymorphism remain poorly characterized.Here,we investigated egg polymorphism in 647 host species(68 families and 231 gen era)parasitized by 41 species of Old Word cuckoos(1 family and 11 gen era)across Asia,Europe,Africa,and Australia.The diversity of parasitic cuckoos differs among continents,reflecting the continent-specific intensities of parasitic selection pressure on hosts.Therefore,host egg polymorphism is expected to evolve more frequently on continents with higher cuckoo diversity.We identified egg polymorphism in 24.1%of all host species and 47.6%of all host families.The common cuckoo Cuculus canorus utilized 184 hosts(28.4%of all host species).Hosts of the common cuckoo and of Chrysococcyx species were more likely to have polymorphic eggs than hosts parasitized by other cuckoos.Both the number of host species and the host families targeted by the cuckoo species were positively correlated with the frequency of host egg polymorphism.Most host species and most hosts exhibiting egg color polymorphism were located in Asia and Africa.Host egg polymorphism was observed less frequently in Australia and Europe.Our results also suggested that egg polymorphism tends to occur more frequently in hosts that are utilized by several cuckoo species or by generalist cuckoo species.We suggest that selecti on pressure on hosts from a given contin ent in creases proportionally to the number of cuckoo species,and that this selection pressure may,in turn,favor the evolution of host egg polymorphism.Canchao Yang Xingfeng Si Wei Liang Anders Pape Moller 2020Current Zoology2020,66,5:2

19PpINH1,an invertase inhibitor,interacts with vacuolar invertase PpVIN2 in regulating the chilling tolerance of peach fruit显示文摘Sucrose metabolism,particularly the decomposition of sucrose by invertase,plays a central role in plant responses to cold stress.Invertase inhibitors(INHs)evolved in higher plants as essential regulators of sucrose metabolism.By limiting invertase activity,INHs keep cellular sugar levels elevated,which provides enhanced protection to plants under stress.Our results showed that the expression of PpVIN2,the only vacuolar invertase(VIN)gene in peach fruit sensitive to chilling temperatures,increases significantly during cold storage,while VIN enzyme activity increases more modestly.We also found that peach fruit transiently overexpressing PpINH1 had decreased VIN activity.Interactions of PpINH1 and PpVIN2 with recombinant proteins were shown by yeast two-hybrid assays and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays,as well as in vitro.During cold storage,trehalose-treated peach fruit had significantly increased PpINH1 expression,decreased VIN enzyme activity,and significantly higher sucrose content than did untreated fruit.As a result,the treated fruit had enhanced resistance to chilling injury.Collectively,our data show that the post-translational repression of VIN enzyme activity by PpINH1 helps maintain sucrose levels in peach fruit during cold storage,thereby improving resistance to chilling injury.Xingxing Wang Yi Chen Shu Jiang Feng Xu Hongfei Wang Yingying Wei Xingfeng Shao 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:1
