| 1 | Combined detection of serum tumor markers for differential diagnosis of solid lesions located at the pancreatic head显示文摘BACKGROUND: The differential diagnosis of solid lesions located at the pancreatic head is very important for choosing therapies and setting up surgical tactics. This study was designed to evaluate the clinical significance of combined measurement of multiple serum tumor markers and the application of the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves in the differential diagnosis of solid lesions located at the pancreatic head. METHODS: The serum levels of CA19-9, CA242, CA50 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in 112 patients with carcinoma of the pancreatic head and 38 patients with focal chronic pancreatitis in the pancreatic head were measured with ELISA. The sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR) and negative likelihood ratio (NLR) of the four serum tumor markers were calculated. The ROC curves for the four serum tumor markers were constructed and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated. RESULTS: The AUCs of CA19-9, CA242, CA50 and CEA were 0.805, 0.749, 0.738 and 0.705; the PLRs were 1.91, 3.43, 5.09 and 5.46; and the NLRs were 0.41, 0.56, 0.59 and 0.71, respectively. Combined measurements increased the diagnostic specificity, and parallel combined testing increased the diagnostic sensitivity. CONCLUSIONS: Combined measurement of serum tumor markers CA19-9, CA242, CA50 and CEA is valuable in differential diagnosis of solid lesions located at the pancreatic head, and CA19-9 has the best diagnostic ability. Combined measurements can increase the specificity ofdiagnosis. | 3 | Increased brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity is associated with impaired endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease显示文摘Background Pulse wave velocity and flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) are widely used as noninvasive modalities for evaluating atherosclerosis. However, it is not known whether pulse wave velocity is related to FMD in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the alteration in brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) and endothelial function in CAD patients. Methods Thirty-three patients with CAD and thirty control subjects were recruited for this study. baPWV was measured non-invasively using a VP 1000 automated PWV/ABI analyzer (PWV/ABI, Colin Co. Ltd., Komaki, Japan). Endothelial function as reflected by FMD in the brachial artery was assessed with a high-resolution ultrasound device. Results baPWV was increased in CAD patients compared with control subjects [(1756.1±253.1) cm/s vs (1495.3±202.3) cm/s, P<0.01]. FMD was significantly reduced in CAD patients compared with control subjects [(5.2±2.1) % vs (11.1±4.4) %, P<0.01]. baPWV correlated with FMD (r =-0.68, P<0.001). The endothelium-independent vasodilation induced by sublingual nitroglycerin in the brachial artery was similar in the CAD group compared with the control group. Conclusions CAD is associated with increased baPWV and endothelial dysfunction. Increased baPWV parallels diminished endothelial function. | 5 | Gefitinib plus Fuzheng Kang'ai Formula(扶正抗癌方) in Patients with Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Mutation:A Randomized Controlled Trial显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the effect of Fuzheng Kang'ai Formula(扶正抗癌方, FZKA) plus gefitinib in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer with epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) mutations. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted from 2009 to 2012 in South China. Seventy chemotherapynaive patients diagnosed with stage ⅢB/Ⅳ non-small cell lung cancer with EGFR mutations were randomly assigned to GF group [gefitinib(250 mg/day orally) plus FZKA(250 m L, twice per day, orally); 35 cases] or G group(gefitinib 250 mg/day orally; 35 cases) according to the random number table and received treatment until progression of the disease, or development of unacceptable toxicities. The primary endpoint [progression-free survival(PFS)] and secondary endpoints [median survival time(MST), objective response rate(ORR), disease control rate(DCR) and safety] were observed. Results: No patient was excluded after randomization. GF group had significantly longer PFS and MST compared with the G group, with median PFS of 12.5 months(95% CI 3.30–21.69) vs. 8.4 months(95% CI 6.30–10.50; log-rank P<0.01), MST of 21.5 months(95% CI 17.28–25.73) vs. 18.3 months(95% CI 17.97–18.63; log-rank P<0.01). ORR and DCR in GF group and G group were 65.7% vs. 57.1%, 94.3% vs. 80.0%, respectively(P>0.05). The most common toxic effects in the GF group and G group were rash or acne(42.8% vs. 57.1%, P>0.05), diarrhea(11.5% vs. 31.4%, P<0.05), and stomatitis(2.9% vs. 8.7%, P>0.05). | 8 | Heterostructured Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Under Alkaline Conditions显示文摘The hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) is a half-cell reaction in water electrolysis for producing hydrogen gas. In industrial water electrolysis, the HER is often conducted in alkaline media to achieve higher stability of the electrode materials. However, the kinetics of the HER in alkaline medium is slow relative to that in acid because of the low concentration of protons in the former.Under the latter conditions, the entire HER process will require additional effort to obtain protons by water dissociation near or on the catalyst surface. Heterostructured catalysts, with fascinating synergistic effects derived from their heterogeneous interfaces, can provide multiple functional sites for the overall reaction process. At present, the activity of the most active known heterostructured catalysts surpasses(platinum-based heterostructures) or approaches (noble-metal-free heterostructures) that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst under alkaline conditions, demonstrating an infusive potential to break through the bottlenecks. This review summarizes the most representative and recent heterostructured HER catalysts for alkaline medium. The basics and principles of the HER under alkaline conditions are first introduced, followed by a discussion of the latest advances in heterostructured catalysts with/without noblemetal-based heterostructures. Special focus is placed on approaches for enhancing the reaction rate by accelerating the Volmer step. | 9 | Current advances in orthodontic pain显示文摘Orthodontic pain is an inflammatory pain that is initiated by orthodontic force-induced vascular occlusion followed by a cascade of inflammatory responses, including vascular changes, the recruitment of inflammatory and immune cells, and the release of neurogenic and pro-inflammatory mediators. Ultimately, endogenous analgesic mechanisms check the inflammatory response and the sensation of pain subsides. The orthodontic pain signal, once received by periodontal sensory endings, reaches the sensory cortex for pain perception through three-order neurons: the trigeminal neuron at the trigeminal ganglia, the trigeminal nucleus caudalis at the medulla oblongata and the ventroposterior nucleus at the thalamus. Many brain areas participate in the emotion,cognition and memory of orthodontic pain, including the insular cortex, amygdala, hippocampus, locus coeruleus and hypothalamus. A built-in analgesic neural pathway—periaqueductal grey and dorsal raphe—has an important role in alleviating orthodontic pain. Currently, several treatment modalities have been applied for the relief of orthodontic pain, including pharmacological, mechanical and behavioural approaches and low-level laser therapy. The effectiveness of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs for pain relief has been validated, but its effects on tooth movement are controversial. However, more studies are needed to verify the effectiveness of other modalities. | 11 | Interferon-c and interleukin-4 detected in serum and saliva from patients with oral lichen planus显示文摘Our previous salivary study had demonstrated an apparent T helper 2(Th2)-predominance in saliva of oral lichen planus(OLP) patients and suggested a potential of salivary interleukin-4(IL-4) as a biomarker for monitoring disease severity. To further determine the consistency of Th1/Th2 bias of OLP, this study investigated the expression profile of interferon-c(IFN-c) and IL-4 in serum and the relationship of the serum levels of these cytokines with their saliva partners. Sixty ethnic Chinese patients with OLP(40 of the erythematous/ulcerative form and 20 of the reticular form) were recruited for this study, with 40 age–sex-matched healthy volunteers as control group. IFN-c and IL-4 levels in serum and paired saliva samples were screened by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. OLP patient showed a low-level IFN-c but high-level IL-4 expression profile in both serum and saliva, with a lower IFN-c/IL-4 ratio. Serum IL-4 level in the erythematous/ulcerative group was significantly higher than that in the reticular group. Serum levels of IFN-c and IL-4 were significantly and positively correlated with their saliva partners. | 12 | The Tuerkubantao ophiolite melange in Xinjiang,NW China:New evidence for the Erqis suture zone显示文摘The extension of the suture zone between the Siberian and Kazakhstan continents in China has been a matter of debate because few outcrops of ophiolitic melange have been found so far.The recently found Tuerkubantao ophiolitic melange,which is located east of the Kekesentao Mt.in the Buerjin County of the Chinese Altay,provides an important clue for this problem.This paper presents the results of field investigation,petrology,U-Pb isotope dating of zircons and bulk-rock geochemistry of the Tuerkubantao melange rocks.The melange consists of fault-contacted ultramafic rocks,gabbro, diabase,basalt,flysch and granitoids.The ultramafic-mafic rocks are Mg-rich(Mg~#=4.25—6.35) and w(SiO_2) spans 38.8%—46.8%.Basalt and gabbro are geochemically similar and are characterized by low w(FeO^t)(10.9%),total alkali w(Na_2O+K_2O)=2.58%) and w(TiO_2)(1.17%) and affinity to the Mg-rich tholeiite series.The flat REE and trace-element patterns of the ultramafic-mafic rocks are indicative of their ophiolite origin,i.e.,formation in a mid-oceanic ridge setting.The fragments of low-K gneissic granite formed in suprasubduction or syn-collisional setting.Zircons from gabbro and gneissic granite yielded U-Pb ages of 363 and 355 Ma.respectively,suggesting Late Devonian mid-oceanic spreading and oceanic subduction accompanied by suprasubduction magmatism.The Tiierkubantao ophiolite together with the Qiaoxiahala and Buergen ophiolites of the Kekesentao belt define an ophiolitic melange belt extending along the Erqis fault.This belt probably belongs to the Ural-Zaisan -South Mongolian suture-shear zone formed during the subduction of the Paleo-Asian Ocean and subsequent collision of the Siberian and Kazakhstan continents. | Yuwang Wang Jingbin Wang Lijuan Wang Lingli Long Pingzhi Tang Zhen Liao Huiqiong Zhang Yu Shi | 2012 | Geoscience Frontiers2012,3,5: | 9 |
| 13 | Celastrol induces lipophagy via the LXRα/ABCA1 pathway in clear cell renal cell carcinoma显示文摘Celastrol is a triterpene derived from the traditional Chinese medicine Tripterygium wilfordii Hook f,which displays potential anticancer activity.In the present study,we investigated the anticancer effects of celastrol against clear cell renal cell carcinoma(ccRCC)and the underlying mechanisms.Using Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)database and genotype-tissue expression(GTEx)database we conducted a bioinformatics analysis,which showed that the mRNA levels of liver-X receptorsα(LXRα)and ATP-binding cassette transporter A1(ABCA1)in ccRCC tissues were significantly lower than those in adjacent normal tissues.This result was confirmed by immunoblotting analysis of 4 ccRCC clinical specimens,which showed that the protein expression of LXRαand ABCA1 was downregulated.Similar results were obtained in a panel of ccRCC cell lines(786-O,A498,SN12C,and OS-RC-2).In 786-O and SN12C cells,treatment with celastrol(0.25–2.0μM)concentration-dependently inhibited the cell proliferation,migration,and invasion as well as the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)process.Furthermore,we demonstrated that celastrol inhibited the invasion of 786-O cells through reducing lipid accumulation;celastrol concentration-dependently promoted autophagy to reduce lipid storage.Moreover,we revealed that celastrol dramatically activated LXRαsignaling,and degraded lipid droplets by inducing lipophagy in 786-O cells.Finally,celastrol promoted cholesterol efflux from 786-O cells via ABCA1.In high-fat diet-promoted ccRCC cell line 786-O xenograft model,administration of celastrol(0.25,0.5,1.0 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1),for 4 weeks,i.p.)dose-dependently inhibited the tumor growth with upregulated LXRαand ABCA1 protein in tumor tissue.In conclusion,this study reveals that celastrol triggers lipophagy in ccRCC by activating LXRα,promotes ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux,suppresses EMT progress,and ultimately inhibits cell proliferation,migration,and invasion as well as tumor growth.Thus,our study provides evidence that celastrol can be used as a lipid metabolism-based anticancer therapeutic approach. | Chan-juan Zhang Neng Zhu Jia Long Hong-tao Wu Yu-xiang Wang Bi-yuan Liu Duan-fang Liao Li Qin | 2021 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2021,42,9: | 8 |
| 14 | Co-seismic Faults and Geological Hazards and Incidence of Active Fault of Wenchuan Ms 8.0 Earthquake,Sichuan,China显示文摘There are two co-seismic faults which developed when the Wenchuan earthquake happened. One occurred along the active fault zone in the central Longmen Mts.and the other in the front of Longmen Mts.The length of which is more than 270 km and about 80 km respectively.The co-seismic fault shows a reverse flexure belt with strike of N45°-60°E in the ground,which caused uplift at its northwest side and subsidence at the southeast.The fault face dips to the northwest with a dip angle ranging from 50°to 60°.The vertical offset of the co-seismic fault ranges 2.5-3.0 m along the Yingxiu-Beichuan co-seismic fault,and 1.5-1.1 m along the Doujiangyan-Hanwang fault.Movement of the coseismic fault presents obvious segmented features along the active fault zone in central Longmen Mts. | 16 | Validity assessment and determination of the cutoff value for the Index of Complexity, Outcome and Need among 12-13 year-olds in Southern Chinese显示文摘To validate the use of the Index of Complexity,Outcome and Need (ICON) in assessing orthodontic treatment need among 12-13 year-olds in southern China,we determined the threshold value of ICON based on Chinese orthodontists' judgments. The samples consisted of 335 students in grade 7 from 16 randomly selected middle schools in Chengdu,China. Three associate professors provided ICON scores for each participant and the results were compared with the gold standard judgments from 25 experts on treatment needs. Based on the gold standard,195 casts belonged to the treatment category,while the rest 140 belonged to the no-treatment category. With the international cutoff point of 43,the sensitivity and specificity of the ICON score were 0.29 and 0.98. The best compromise between sensitivity and specificity in Chengdu,compared with the gold standard,was found at a cutoff point of 29,and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.88 and 0.83. | 17 | Ultraflat, broadband, and highly coherent supercontinuum generation in all-solid microstructured optical fibers with all-normal dispersion显示文摘High flatness, wide bandwidth, and high-coherence properties of supercontinuum(SC) generation in fibers are crucial in many applications. It is challenging to achieve SC spectra in a combination of the properties, since special dispersion profiles are required, especially when pump pulses with duration over 100 fs are employed. We propose an all-solid microstructured fiber composed only of hexagonal glass elements. The optimized fiber possesses an ultraflat all-normal dispersion profile, covering a wide wavelength interval of approximately 1.55 μm. An SC spectrum spanning from approximately 1030 to 2030 nm(corresponding to nearly one octave) with flatness<3 dB is numerically generated in the fiber with 200 fs pump pulses at 1.55 μm. The results indicate that the broadband ultraflat SC sources can be all-fiber and miniaturized due to commercially achievable 200-fs fiber lasers. Moreover, the SC pulses feature high coherence and a single pulse in the time domain, which can be compressed to 13.9-fs pulses with high quality even for simple linear chirp compensation. | 18 | Fitness of fall armyworm,Spodoptera frugiperda to three solanaceous vegetables显示文摘The fall armyworm(FAW),Spodoptera frugiperda Smith(Lepidoptera:Noctuidae)is an important agricultural pest that invaded China in the middle of December 2018.As a polyphagous pest,FAW is identified as a serious threat to agricultural production and food security in China.Pepper(Capsicum annuum L.),tomato(Solanum lycopersicum Mill.)and eggplant(Solanum melongena L.)are three of dominant solanaceous vegetables of this country.To our knowledge,the effects of these plants on the performances of FAW have not been well studied.In this study we assessed the fitness of this pest to these three plants.Results showed that FAW can complete its life cycle when fed with tomato and pepper,but not on eggplant.The population parameters of FAW fed with maize(Zea mays L.)and the three solanaceous vegetables were compared using the age-stage,two-sex life table method.Developmental duration was significantly different in the larval stage,but not in the pupae stage.FAW fed with pepper had the longest pre-adult period(41.73 d)and the lightest pupal weight(0.1134 g);the survival rate was lower than FAW fed with tomato.Significant differences were observed in the mean fecundity of female,with the highest(943.95 eggs)laid by FAW fed with tomato.FAW had the shortest mean generation time(T),the highest intrinsic rate of increase(r)and finite rate of increase(λ)on maize,and the highest net reproductive rate(R_(0))on tomato.Overall,FAW fitness on the three solanaceous vegetables was:tomato>pepper>eggplant.This study provides the foundation for further assessment of FAW risk to solanaceous vegetables and for establishing corresponding control strategies in China. | WU Li-hong ZHOU Cao LONG Gui-yun YANG Xi-bin WEI Zhi-yan LIAO Ying-jiang YANG Hong HU Chao-xing | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2021,20,3: | 4 |
