1Variation in needle and cone traits in natural populations of Pinus yunnanensis显示文摘Pinus yunnanensis Franch. is a major component of coniferous forests in southwestern China. Little is known about its intraspecific variation. Morphological variations in needle and cone traits of P. yunnanensis were analyzed to quantify variability among and within natural populations.Seven traits were measured on 10 needles collected from 30 trees in each of the 18 sampled populations of P. yunnanensis. Four cone traits were measured in 221 individual trees from nine populations. The results showed that there were significant differences(p \ 0.01) both among populations and within populations in each needle and cone trait.The proportion of phenotypic variation of nearly all needle and cone traits was over 50 % within populations, which showed trees within populations accounted for a majority of the total variation. The needle traits showed higher variability within population than cone traits. Variability in theneedle traits was correlated with geo-climatic parameters(longitude, latitude, altitude, temperature, and precipitation).Needle length and the ratio of needle length to fascicle sheath length showed clinal variation in response to latitudinal and altitudinal gradients. A hierarchical classification of all populations based on needle traits led to the formation of four major groups. The findings provide important genetic information for the evaluation of variation. 2Adsorption and desorption characteristics of diphenylarsenicals in two contrasting soils显示文摘Diphenylarsinic acid(DPAA) is formed during the leakage of aromatic arsenic chemical weapons in soils,is persistent in nature,and results in arsenic contamination in the field.The adsorption and desorption characteristics of DPAA were investigated in two typical Chinese soils,an Acrisol(a variable-charge soil) and a Phaeozem(a constant-charge soil).Their thermodynamics and some of the factors influencing them(i.e.,initial pH value,ionic strength and phosphate) were also evaluated using the batch method in order to understand the environmental fate of DPAA in soils.The results indicate that Acrisol had a stronger adsorption capacity for DPAA than Phaeozem.Soil DPAA adsorption was a spontaneous and endothermic process and the amount of DPAA adsorbed was affected significantly by variation in soil pH and phosphate.In contrast,soil organic matter and ionic strength had no significant effect on adsorption.This suggests that DPAA adsorption may be due to specific adsorption on soil mineral surfaces.Therefore,monitoring the fate of DPAA in soils is recommended in areas contaminated by leakage from chemical weapons.Anan Wang Shixin Li Ying Teng Wuxin Liu Longhua Wu Haibo Zhang Yujuan Huang Yongming Luo Peter Christie 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6:8
3Construction and visualization of high-resolution three-dimensional anatomical structure datasets for Chinese digital human显示文摘The objective of the China Digital Human Project (CDH) is to digitize and visualize the anatomical structures of human body. In the project, a database with information of morphology, physical charac-teristics and physiological function will be constructed. The raw data of CDH which was completed in the Southern Medical University is employed. In Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), the frozen section images are preprocessed, segmented, labeled in accordance with the major organs and tissues of human beings, and reconstructed into three-dimensional (3D) models in parallel on high performance computing clusters (HPC). Some visualization software for 2D atlas and 3D mod-els are developed based on the new dataset with high resolution (0.1mm×0.1mm×0.2mm). In order to share, release and popularize the above work, a website (www.vch.org.cn) is online. 4Vaterite or aragonite observed in the prismatic layer of freshwater-cultured pearls from South China显示文摘A prismatic layer is present in both freshwater-cultured pearls and seawater-cultured pearls. The phase structure of the prismatic layer of freshwater-cultured pearls is investigated for the first time and novel findings are reported in this paper. X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy (OM) and micro-infrared (IR) spectroscopy were used to characterize the crystallized layers of high and low-quality freshwater-cultured pearls. Results show that there is no calcite in the prismatic layer of freshwater-cultured pearls, which is different from what was found for seawater-cultured pearls. We found that an aragonite phase was present in the prismatic layer of high-quality freshwater-cultured pearls and that a vaterite or aragonite phase was present in low-quality pearls. 6Divergent Projection Patterns Revealed by Reconstruction of Individual Neurons in Orbitofrontal Cortex显示文摘The orbitofrontal cortex(OFC)is involved in diverse brain functions via its extensive projections to multiple target regions.There is a growing understanding of the overall outputs of the OFC at the population level,but reports of the projection patterns of individual OFC neurons across different cortical layers remain rare.Here,by combining neuronal sparse and bright labeling with a whole-brain florescence imaging system(fMOST),we obtained an uninterrupted three-dimensional whole-brain dataset and achieved the full morphological reconstruction of 25 OFC pyramidal neurons.We compared the wholebrain projection targets of these individual OFC neurons in different cortical layers as well as in the same cortical layer.We found cortical layer-dependent projections characterized by divergent patterns for information delivery.Our study not only provides a structural basis for understanding the principles of laminar organizations in the OFC,but also provides clues for future functional and behavioral studies on OFC pyramidal neurons.Junjun Wang Pei Sun Xiaohua Lv Sen Jin Anan Li Jianxia Kuang Ning Li Yadong Gang Rui Guo Shaoqun Zeng Fuqiang Xu Yu-Hui Zhang 2021Neuroscience Bulletin2021,37,4:5
7Germination and early seedling growth of Pinus densata Mast.provenances显示文摘We studied seed germination and early seedling growth of Pinus densata to explore the range of variability within the species and to inform afforestation practices.Phenotypes were evaluated at a forest tree nursery under conditions that support Pinus yunnanensis, one of the presumed parental species of P. densata. Seeds were collected from 20 open-pollinated trees within each of eight autochthonous populations representing the natural distribution of P. densata in China to assess variation in germination traits and early seedling growth, and to examine the relationships among these traits. Results showed that seeds from all populations germinated and seedlings established successfully. There were significant differences among populations in 13 of 14 traits evaluated. Seed germination and early seedling growth were strongly related to seed size and seed weight. Bigger seeds germinated earlier and faster than small seeds, and seedling size was positively correlated with seed size. Some germination traits were strongly and significantly correlated with climatic variables associated with the provenance of the studied populations. Based on these observations, we conclude there were large, significant, and biologically important differences among P. densata populations in seed germination and seedling growth traits. 9High-resolution mapping of brain vasculature and its impairment in the hippocampus of Alzheimer’s disease mice显示文摘Accumulating evidence indicates the critical importance of cerebrovascular dysfunction in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease(AD).However,systematic comparative studies on the precise brain vasculature of wild-type and AD model mice are still rare.Using an image-optimization method for analysing Micro-Optical Sectioning Tomography(MOST)data,we generated cross-scale whole-brain 3 D atlases that cover the entire vascular system from large vessels down to smallest capillaries at submicron resolution,for both wild-type mice and a transgenic(APP/PS1)mouse model of AD.In addition to distinct vascular patterns in different brain regions,we found that the main vessels of the molecular layer of the hippocampal dentate gyrus(DG-ml)undergo abrupt changes in both diameter and branch angle,spreading a unique comb-like pattern of capillaries.By using a quantitative analysis workflow,we identified in the hippocampus of AD mice an overall reduction of the mean vascular diameter,volume fraction and branch angle,with most significant impairment in the DG-ml.In addition,virtual endoscopy revealed irregular morphological features in the vessel lumen of the AD mice,potentially contributing to the impairment of blood flow.Our results demonstrate the capability of high-resolution cross-scale evaluation of brain vasculature and underscore the importance of studying hippocampal microcirculation for understanding AD pathogenesis.Xiaochuan Zhang Xianzhen Yin Jingjing Zhang Anan Li Hui Gong Qingming Luo Haiyan Zhang Zhaobing Gao Hualiang Jiang 2019National Science Review2019,6,6:4
10Genetic structure of needle morphological and anatomical traits of Pinus yunnanensis显示文摘Pinus yunnanensis Franch. is an particular conifer tree species in Yunnan–Guizhou plateau in southwest China. The morphological and anatomical traits of needles are important to evaluate geographic variation and population dynamics of conifer species. Seedlings from seven populations of P. yunnanensis were analyzed, looking at 22 morphological and anatomical needle traits. The results showed that variations among and within populations were significantly different for all traits and the variance components within populations were generally higher than that among populations in the most tested needle traits. The proportions of three-needle fascicle were significantly different among populations. The traits related to needle size in both morphology and anatomy were positive with latitude and negative with annual temperature and precipitation. Ratio indices, including mesophyllarea/vascular bundle area, mesophyll area/resin canals area, vascular bundle area/resin canals area and mesophyll area/(resin canals area and vascular bundle area), were negatively correlated with elevation and positively correlated with the annual mean temperature, showing some fitness feature for the populations. Needle traits were more significantly correlated with longitude than with other four environmental factors. Needle length was significantly correlated with almost all environmental factors. First four principal components accounted for 81.596 % of the variation with eigenvalues [1; the differences among populations were mainly dependent on needle width,stomatal density, section areas of vascular bundle, total resin canals, and mesophyll, as well as area ratio traits.Seven populations were divided into three categories by Euclidean distance. Variations in needle traits among the populations have shown systematic microevolution in terms of geographic impact on P. yunnanensis. 11Plasticity of Sniffing Pattern and Neural Activity in the Olfactory Bulb of Behaving Mice During Odor Sampling,Anticipation,and Reward显示文摘The olfactory bulb(OB) is the first relay station in the olfactory system.In the OB,mitral/tufted cells(M/Ts),which are the main output neurons,play important roles in the processing and representation of odor information.Recent studies focusing on the function of M/Ts at the single-cell level in awake behaving mice have demonstrated that odor-evoked firing of single M/Ts displays transient/long-term plasticity during learning.Here,we tested whether the neural activity of M/Ts and sniffing patterns are dependent on anticipation and reward in awake behaving mice.We used an odor discrimination task combined with in vivo electrophysiological recordings in awake,head-fixed mice,and found that,while learning induced plasticity of spikes and beta oscillations during odor sampling,we also found plasticity of spikes,beta oscillation,sniffing pattern,and coherence between sniffing and theta oscillations during the periods of anticipation and/or reward.These results indicate that the activity of M/Ts plays important roles not only in odor representation but also in salience-related events such as anticipation and reward.Penglai Liu Tiantian Cao Jinshan Xu Xingfeng Mao Dejuan Wang Anan Li 2020Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,6:2
12Variation in seed and seedling traits and their relations to geo-climatic factors among populations in Yunnan Pine(Pinus yunnanensis)显示文摘Differences in seed germination and seedling growth among populations of Pinus yunnanensis Franch.were quantified to provide information for use in the regeneration,reforestation,and improvement of this species.Seed germination and seedling growth traits at the nursery stage were investigated at the population level.We evaluated relationships between pairs of measured traits as well as the association between measured traits and geoclimatic variables including longitude,latitude,elevation,temperature and precipitation.Seedling growth showed significant differences although a low magnitude of variation was found in the seed germination traits among the populations.Some populations with strong and stable growth(e.g.,the Baoshan population) may be selected as superior seed sources for regeneration and reforestation.Germination percentage was negatively correlated with elevation,and positively with precipitation.In addition,germination index,vigor index and seedling height were positively correlated with precipitation.Seed germination index,cotyledon number and length,and seedling diameter were significantly and positively correlated with seed weight.Strong correlations between pairs of traits will be helpful in early evaluations for the selection of certain prominent traits.Nianhui Cai Yulan Xu Shi Chen Bin He Genqian Li Yue Li Anan Duan 2016Journal of Forestry Research2016,27,5:2

16A Whole-brain Map of Long-range Inputs to GABAergic Interneurons in the Mouse Caudal Forelimb Area显示文摘The caudal forelimb area(CFA)of the mouse cortex is essential in many forelimb movements,and diverse types of GABAergic interneuron in the CFA are distinct in the mediation of cortical inhibition in motor information processing.However,their long-range inputs remain unclear.In the present study,we combined the monosynaptic rabies virus system with Cre driver mouse lines to generate a whole-brain map of the inputs to three major inhibitory interneuron types in the CFA.We discovered that each type was innervated by the same upstream areas,but there were quantitative differences in the inputs from the cortex,thalamus,and pallidum.Comparing the locations of the interneurons in two subregions of the CFA,we discovered that their long-range inputs were remarkably different in distribution and proportion.This whole-brain mapping indicates the existence of parallel pathway organization in the forelimb subnetwork and provides insight into the inhibitory processes in forelimb movement to reveal the structural architecture underlying the functions of the CFA.Zhuonan Duan Anan Li Hui Gong Xiangning Li 2020Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,5:1
17Whole-Brain Direct Inputs to and Axonal Projections from Excitatory and Inhibitory Neurons in the Mouse Primary Auditory Area显示文摘Neurons in the primary auditory area(AUDp)innervate multiple brain regions with long-range projections while receiving informative inputs for diverse functions.However,the brain-wide connections of these neurons have not been comprehensively investigated.Here,we simultaneously applied virus-based anterograde and retrograde tracing,labeled the connections of excitatory and inhibitory neurons in the mouse AUDp,and acquired whole-brain information using a dual-channel fuorescence micro-optical sectioning tomography system.Quantified results showed that the two types of neurons received inputs with similar patterns but sent heterogeneous projections to downstream regions.In the isocortex,functionally different areas consistently sent feedback-dominated projections to these neurons,with concomitant laterallydominated projections from the sensory and limbic cortices to inhibitory neurons.In subcortical regions,the dorsal and medial parts of the non-lemniscal auditory thalamus(AT)were reciprocally connected to the AUDp,while the ventral part contained the most fibers of passage from the excitatory neurons and barely sent projections back,indicating the regional heterogeneity of the AUDp-AT circuit.Our results reveal details of the whole-brain network and provide new insights for further physiological and functional studies of the AUDp.Mengting Zhao Miao Ren Tao Jiang Xueyan Jia Xiaojun Wang Anan Li Xiangning Li Qingming Luo Hui Gong 2022Neuroscience Bulletin2022,38,6:1
18Constructing the rodent stereotaxic brain atlas:a survey显示文摘The stereotaxic brain atlas is a fundamental reference tool commonly used in the field of neuroscience.Here we provide a brief history of brain atlas development and clarify three key conceptual elements of stereotaxic brain atlasing:brain image,atlas,and stereotaxis.We also refine four technical indices for evaluating the construction of atlases:the quality of staining and labeling,the granularity of delineation,spatial resolution,and the precision of spatial location and orientation.Additionally,we discuss state-of-the-art technologies and their trends in the fields of image acquisition,stereotaxic coordinate construction,image processing,anatomical structure recognition,and publishing:the procedures of brain atlas illustration.We believe that the use of single-cell resolution and micron-level location precision will become a future trend in the study of the stereotaxic brain atlas,which will greatly benefit the development of neuroscience.Zhao Feng Anan Li Hui Gong Qingming Luo 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,1:1

20Security Compressed Sensing Image Encryption Algorithm Based on Elliptic Curve显示文摘Aiming to address the problems of high costs associated with the storage and transmission of environmental monitoring images,as well as potential security risks,this paper proposes a security compressed sensing image encryption algorithm based on elliptic curve cryptography.The algorithm introduces elliptic curve encryption technology within a compressed sensing framework,using elliptic curve cryptography to encrypt the matrix during the compression perception acquisition process.This enables secure acquisition of environmental monitoring encrypted images.Therefore,this paper presents a security compressed sensing framework to address security gaps in the compression perception reconstruction process and improve the security of environmental monitoring images.Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm effectively encrypts and reconstructs environmental monitoring images,with high security and resistance to cracking.Anan Jin Xiang Li Qingzhi Xiong 2023国际计算机前沿大会会议论文集2023,,1:0
