| 1 | Therapeutic effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester on cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the therapeutic role of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) in a rat model of ceruleaninduced acute pancreatitis (AP).METHODS: Seventy male Wistar albino rats were divided into seven groups. Acute edematous pancreatitis was induced by subcutaneous cerulein injection (20 μg/kg) four times at 1-h intervals. CAPE (30 mg/kg) was given by subcutaneous injection at the beginning (CAPE 1 group) and 12 h after the last cerulein injection (CAPE 2 group). Serum amylase, lipase, white blood cell count, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α levels were measured, and pancreatic histopathology was assessed. RESULTS: In the AP group, amylase and lipase levels were found to be elevated and the histopathological evaluation showed massive edema and inflammation of the pancreas, with less fatty necrosis when compared with sham and control groups. Amylase and lipase levels and edema formation decreased signif icantly in the CAPE therapy groups (P < 0001); especially in the CAPE 2 group, edema was improved nearly completely (P = 0001). Inflammation and fatty necrosis were partially recovered by CAPE treatment. The pathologicalresults and amylase level in the placebo groups were similar to those in the AP group. | 2 | Evaluation of early results of quick-chop phacoemulsification in the patients with high myopic cataract显示文摘AIM:To assess the early surgical outcomes of quickchop phacoemulsification technique in patients with high myopia.METHODS:The data of patients with high myopia who underwent quick-chop phacoemulsification were reviewed retrospectively. There were 42 eyes of 31 patients. The axial length was more than 26 mm in all eyes. All eyes underwent quick-chop phacoemulsification surgery with the placement of an intraocular lens(IOL) in the capsular bag. Postoperative visits were performed at 1, 3d; 2wk,1mo. Early postoperative best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), preoperative and postoperative corneal endothelial cell density(ECD), central corneal thickness(CCT) and postoperative complications were assessed.Paired sample t-test or Wilcoxon tests were used to compare data between preoperative and postoperative data.· RESULTS:There was no statistically significant difference between preoperative and postoperative ECD and CCT. Retinal detachment was developed in one eye at postoperative first day. There was an iris prolapsus from side port insicion.· CONCLUSION:Quick-chop phacoemulsification technique is a safe surgical technique. However we can encounter some complications in high myopic eyes due to histopathological differences. Both side port and clear corneal tunnel insicion size is crucial for preventing postoperative complications. | 4 | Improving mechanical and antibacterial properties of PMMA via polyblend electrospinning with silk fibroin and polyethyleneimine towards dental applications显示文摘Poly(methylmethacrylate)(PMMA)is a widely used material in dental applications,particularly as denture resins.Due to thermally unstable and wet oral cavity,the implanted PMMA based resins occasionally deform and grow bacterial biofilms at the interface between oral cavity and the biomaterial.Several strategies attempted earlier to improve the bacterial resistance and mechanical performance of PMMA.Poly(ethyleneimine)(PEI)is a hyperbranched cationic polymer shown earlier to improve antibacterial activity of resins but do not improve mechanical properties of the resins alone,while silk fibroin(SF)is a natural biopolymer with unique material properties.In this study,we combined SF and PEI towards development of antibacterial and mechanically superior PMMA based materials towards overcoming its drawbacks.Using polyblend electrospinning to combine SF,PEI and PMMA,we successfully developed intrinsically antibacterial and mechanically reinforced nanofiber mats.We propose that the resulting nanofiber mats have the potential to be incorporated into PMMA based denture resin materials to overcome the problems of patients and improve their quality of life. | Ugur Yunus Karatepe Tugba Ozdemir | 2020 | Bioactive Materials2020，5，3： | 3 |
