| 1 | Colorectal liver metastases: Current management and future perspectives显示文摘The liver is the commonest site of metastatic disease for patients with colorectal cancer,with at least 25%developing colorectal liver metastases(CRLM)during the course of their illness.The management of CRLM has evolved into a complex field requiring input from experienced members of a multi-disciplinary team involving radiology(cross sectional,nuclear medicine and interventional),Oncology,Liver surgery,Colorectal surgery,and Histopathology.Patient management is based on assessment of sophisticated clinical,radiological and biomarker information.Despite incomplete evidence in this very heterogeneous patient group,maximising resection of CRLM using all available techniques remains a key objective and provides the best chance of long-term survival and cure.To this end,liver resection is maximised by the use of downsizing chemotherapy,optimisation of liver remnant by portal vein embolization,associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy,and combining resection with ablation,in the context of improvements in the functional assessment of the future remnant liver.Liver resection may safely be carried out laparoscopically or open,and synchronously with,or before,colorectal surgery in selected patients.For unresectable patients,treatment options including systemic chemotherapy,targeted biological agents,intraarterial infusion or bead delivered chemotherapy,tumour ablation,stereotactic radiotherapy,and selective internal radiotherapy contribute to improve survival and may convert initially unresectable patients to operability.Currently evolving areas include biomarker characterisation of tumours,the development of novel systemic agents targeting specific oncogenic pathways,and the potential reemergence of radical surgical options such as liver transplantation. | Jack Martin Angelica Petrillo Elizabeth C Smyth Nadeem Shaida Samir Khwaja HK Cheow Adam Duckworth Paula Heister Raaj Praseedom Asif Jah Anita Balakrishnan Simon Harper Siong Liau Vasilis Kosmoliaptsis Emmanuel Huguet | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2020,11,10: | 5 |
| 2 | Antioxidants in aqueous extract of Myristica fragrans(Houtt.) suppress mitosis and cyclophosphamide-induced chromosomal aberrations in Allium cepa L.cells显示文摘In this study,freeze-dried water extract from the leaves of Myristica fragrans(Houtt.) was tested for mutagenic and antimutagenic potentials using the Allium cepa assay.Freeze-dried water extract alone and its combination with cyclophosphamide(CP)(50 mg/kg) were separately dissolved in tap water at 500,1000,2000,and 4000 mg/kg.Onions(A.cepa) were suspended in the solutions and controls for 48 h in the dark.Root tips were prepared for microscopic evaluation.2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radicals' scavenging power of the extract was tested using butylated hydroxyanisole(BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene(BHT) as standards.Water extract of Myristica fragrans scavenged free radicals better than BHA,but worse than BHT.The extract alone,as well as in combination with CP suppressed cell division,and induced chromosomal aberrations that were insignificantly different from the negative control(P≤0.05).However,cytotoxic and mutagenic actions of CP were considerably suppressed.The observed effects on cell division and chromosomes of A.cepa may be principally connected to the antioxidant properties of the extract.The obtained results suggest mitodepressive and antimutagenic potentials of water extract of the leaves of M.fragrans as desirable properties of a promising anticancer agent. | Akeem AKINBORO Kamaruzaman Bin MOHAMED Mohd Zaini ASMAWI Shaida Fariza SULAIMAN Othman Ahmad SOFIMAN | 2011 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2011,12,11: | 4 |

| 18 | Evaluation of the toxicity and repellency of tropical plant extract against subterranean termites,Globitermes sulphureus and Coptotermes gestroi显示文摘The harmful effects of chemical-based termiticides and the increased incidence of termite resistance have resulted in the need for safer and more effective termiticides.Therefore,the screening of antitermiticidal activity of naturally-occurring products could possibly hamper an alternative means in termite control strategies.The aims of this study were to determine the toxicity and repellency of L.leucocephala,A.paniculata,Az.indica and P.niruri crude extracts against two subterranean termites,G.sulphureus and C.gestroi.Bioassays were conducted by applying varying concentrations of the plant extracts(10,000 ppm,5000 ppm and 500 ppm)on both termite species under laboratory conditions.All extracts exhibited a significant antitermiticidal activity in time-and concentration-dependent manners after 14 days of exposure.The highest mortality of G.sulpureus and C.gestroi were noted in all methanolic extracts of P.niruri,L.leucocephala,A.paniculata,Az.indica at 10,000 ppm.High repellent activity was also noted in the choice bioassay when both termites were treated with all methanolic extracts at 10,000 ppm. | Noor Hazwani Bakaruddin Hamady Dieng Shaida Fariza Sulaiman Abdul Hafiz Ab Majid | 2018 | Information Processing in Agriculture2018,5,3: | 0 |
