| 2 | Survival analysis of cholangiocarcinoma:A 10-year experience in Malaysia显示文摘AIM:To investigate the clinical features and survival of patients treated for cholangiocarcinoma in our institution and to analyze the factors affecting their survival.METHODS:This retrospective cohort study assessed patients diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma between January 1997 and December 2007 at the University Malaya Medical Centre in Malaysia.The clinical data and associated outcomes were collected using a structured proforma.RESULTS:Of the 69 patients diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma,38 (55%) were male;mean patient age was 61 years.Twelve patients (17%) had intrahepatic,38 (55%) had perihilar and 19 (28%) had distal tumors.Only 12 patients underwent curative surgery,including seven R0 resections.Only one patient died within 30 d after surgery.The overall median survival was 4 mo,whereas the median survival of R0 resected patients was 16 mo.The overall 1-,2-and 3-year cumulative survival rates were 67%,17% and 17%,respectively.Survival rates were significantly associated with curative resection (P=0.002),intrahepatic tumor (P=0.003),negative margin status (P=0.013),early tumor stage (P=0.016),higher tumor differentiation (P=0.032) and absence of jaundice (P=0.038).Multivariate analysis showed that tumor location was a significant independent predictor of patient survival.CONCLUSION:Curative,margin-negative resection of early stage,well-differentiated intrahepatic tumors is associated with improved patient survival. | Ahmad Ramzi Yusoff Mohd Muzammil Abdul Razak Yoong Boon Koon R Vijeyasingam Siti Zuraidah Mahmud | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012，18，5： | 7 |

| 5 | Comparison of a plant based natural surfactant with SDS for washing of As(V) from Fe rich soil显示文摘This study explores the possible application of a biodegradable plant based surfactant,obtained from Sapindus mukorossi,for washing low levels of arsenic(As)from an iron(Fe)rich soil.Natural association of As(V)with Fe(III)makes the process difcult.Soapnut solution was compared to anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)in down-flow and a newly introduced suction mode for soil column washing.It was observed that soapnut attained up to 86%efciency with respect to SDS in removing As.Full factorial design of experiment revealed a very good fit of data.The suction mode generated up to 83 kPa pressure inside column whilst down-flow mode generated a much higher pressure of 214 kPa,thus making the suction mode more efcient.Micellar solubilisation was found to be responsible for As desorption from the soil and it followed 1st order kinetics.Desorption rate coefcient of suction mode was found to be in the range of 0.005 to 0.01,much higher than down-flow mode values.Analysis of the FT-IR data suggested that the soapnut solution did not interact chemically with As,ofering an option for reusing the surfactant.Soapnut can be considered as a soil washing agent for removing As even from soil with high Fe content. | Soumyadeep Mukhopadhyay Mohd. Although regarded safe and efficient, it has side effects. All of the laser based refractive surgical procedures invoke corneal nerve injury to some degree. The impact of this denervation can range from mild discomfort to neurotrophic corneas. Currently, three techniques are widely used for laser vision correction: small incision lenticule extraction, laser-assisted keratomileusis in situ and photorefractive keratotomy. Each of these techniques affects corneal innervation differently and has a different pattern of nerve regeneration. | 8 | Performance of the hybrid growth sequencing batch reactor(HG-SBR) for biodegradation of phenol under various toxicity conditions显示文摘Hybrid growth microorganisms in sequencing batch reactors have proven effective for treating the toxic compound phenol, but the toxicity effect under different toxicity conditions has rarely been discussed. Therefore, the performance of the HG-SBR under toxic, acute and chronic organic loading can provide the overall operating conditions of the system. Toxic organic loading(TOL) was monitored during the first 7 hr while introducing50 mg/L phenol to the system. The system was adversely affected with the sudden introduction of phenol to the virgin activated sludge, which caused a low degradation rate and high dissolved oxygen consumption during TOL. Acute organic loading(AOL) had significant effects at high phenol concentrations(600, 800 1000 mg/L). The specific oxygen uptake rate(SOUR) gradually decreased to 4.9 mg O_2/(g MLVSS·hr) at 1000 mg/L of phenol compared to 12.74 mg O_2/(g MLVSS·hr) for 200 mg/L of phenol. The HG-SBR was further monitored during chronic organic loading(COL) over 67 days. | 9 | Determination of calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute traumatic brain injury patients显示文摘Purpose:Malnutrition is a common problem among hospitalized patients,especially among traumatic brain injury(TBI)patients.It is developed from hypermetabolism and the condition may worsen under the circumstance of underfeeding or incompatible dietary management.However,the data of nutrient intake especially calorie and protein among TBI patients were scarce.Hence,this study aimed to determine the calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute TBI patients receiving medical nutrition therapy in hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah,Terengganu.Methods:This observational study involved 50 patients recruited from the neurosurgical ward.Method of 24 h dietary recall was utilized and combined with self-administered food diaries for 2-8 days.Food consumptions including calorie intake and protein intake were analyzed using Nutritionist PRO™(Woodinville,USA)and manual calculation based on the Malaysian food composition database(2015).Results:Patients consisted of 56%males and 44%females with the median age of 28.0(IQR=22.8-36.5)years,of which 92%were diagnosed as mild TBI and the remaining(8%)as moderate TBI.The Glasgow coma scale(GCS)was adopted to classify TBI severity with the score 13-15 being mild and 9-12 being moderate.The median length of hospital stay was 2(IQR=2.0e3.3)days.Calorie and protein intake improved significantly from day 1 to discharge day.However,the intake during discharge day was still considered as suboptimal,i.e.75%of calorie requirement,whilst the median protein intake was only 61.3%relative to protein requirement.Moreover,the average percentages of calorie and protein intakes throughout hospitalization were remarkably lower,i.e.52.2%and 41.0%,respectively.Conclusion:Although the calorie and protein intakes had increased from baseline,hospitalized TBI patients were still at a risk to develop malnutrition as the average intakes were considerably low as compared to their requirements.Optimum nutrient intakes especially calorie and protein are crucial to ensure optimum recovery process as well as to minimize risks of infection and complications. | Mohd Ibrahim Abdullah Aryati Ahmad Sharifah Wajihah Wafa Syed Saadun Tarek Wafa Ahmad Zubaidi Abdul Latif Noor Aini Mohd Yusoff Muhammad Khalis Jasmiad Nujaimin Udin Kartini Abdul Karim | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Traumatology2020，23，5： | 3 |
| 10 | Identification of naphthalene metabolism by white rot fungus Armillaria sp.F022显示文摘Armillaria sp.F022,a white rot fungus isolated from tropical rain forest(Samarinda,Indonesia) was used to biodegrade naphthalene in cultured medium.Transformation of naphthalene by Armillaria sp.F022 which is able to use naphthalene,a two ring-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH) as a source of carbon and energy was investigated.The metabolic pathway was elucidated by identifying metabolites,biotransformation studies and monitoring enzyme activities in cell-free extracts.The identification of metabolites suggests that Armillaria sp.F022 initiates its attack on naphthalene by dioxygenation at its C-1 and C-4 positions to give 1,4-naphthoquinone.The intermediate 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and salicylic acid,and the characteristic of the meta-cleavage of the resulting diol were identified in the long-term incubation.A part from typical metabolites of naphthalene degradation known from mesophiles,benzoic acid was identified as the next intermediate for the naphthalene pathway of this Armillaria sp.F022.Neither phthalic acid,catechol and cis,cis-muconic acid metabolites were detected in culture extracts.Several enzymes(manganese peroxidase,lignin peroxidase,laccase,1,2-dioxygenase and 2,3-dioxygenase) produced by Armillaria sp.F022 were detected during the incubation. | Tony Hadibarata Abdull Rahim Mohd Yusoff Azmi Aris Risky Ayu Kristanti | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012，24，4： | 3 |

The EDF has a pump absorption rate of 24.6 dB/m at 979 nm and is bi-directionally pumped by 980-nm laser diodes. FWM effect redistributes the energy of different oscillating lines and causes multi-wavelength operation. | 12 | Flapping wing micro-aerial-vehicle: Kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms of ornithopter and insect flight显示文摘The application of biomimetics in the development of unmanned-aerial-vehicles(UAV)has advanced to an exceptionally small scale of nano-aerial-vehicles(NAV), which has surpassed its immediate predecessor of micro-aerial-vehicles(MAV), leaving a vast range of development possibilities that MAVs have to offer. Because of the prompt advancement into the NAV research development, the true potential and challenges presented by MAV development were never solved,understood, and truly uncovered, especially under the influence of transition and low Reynolds number flow characteristics. This paper reviews a part of previous MAV research developments which are deemed important of notification; kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms ranges from small birds to big insects, which resides within the transition and low Reynolds number regimes. This paper also reviews the possibility of applying a piezoelectric transmission used to produce NAV flapping wing motion and mounted on a MAV, replacing the conventional motorized flapping wing transmission. Findings suggest that limited work has been done for MAVs matching these criteria. | 14 | Effect of soil cohesion and friction angles on reverse faults显示文摘Severe faults have caused many earthquakes around the world throughout history.More recently,earthquakes have occurred in Taiwan,China(Chi-Chi fault),and elsewhere,causing loss of lives and destroying many buildings and structures.These tectonic movements have gained attention from engineers,and in the past 15 years,the focus has been on faulting mechanisms.In this study,a physical model(1 g)was fabricated and used to evaluate the impact of a reverse fault in a field with a tunnel.In the 1 g model,researchers installed additional gauges on the tunnel,so that all the displacements could be adjusted,and all the responses could be monitored during faulting.An experimental study of various soil properties(cohesion and friction angles)in reverse faults on the tunnel lining were carried out and are described herein.A comparison of results for different levels of soil cohesion revealed that it can dramatically reduce the displacement by as much as 40%,and that friction angles of 27ºcan record approximately 60%more displacements than at 37º.Furthermore,a comparison of fault angles of 30ºand 60ºindicates that the displacements can be different by more than 43%in cohesionless soil and about 64%for a friction angle of 27º. | Mehdi Ghafari Haslinda Nahazanan Zainuddin Md Yusoff Vahed Ghiasi | 2021 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2021，20，2： | 2 |

| 16 | Toxicity evaluation of ZnO and TiO_2 nanomaterials in hydroponic red bean(Vigna angularis) plant:Physiology, biochemistry and kinetic transport显示文摘The toxicity and kinetic uptake potential of zinc oxide(Zn O) and titanium dioxide(TiO_2)nanomaterials into the red bean(Vigna angularis) plant were investigated. The results obtained revealed that Zn O, due to its high dissolution and strong binding capacity, readily accumulated in the root tissues and significantly inhibited the physiological activity of the plant. However, TiO_2 had a positive effect on plant physiology, resulting in promoted growth. The results of biochemical experiments implied that Zn O, through the generation of oxidative stress, significantly reduced the chlorophyll content, carotenoids and activity of stress-controlling enzymes. On the contrary, no negative biochemical impact was observed in plants treated with TiO_2. For the kinetic uptake and transport study, we designed two exposure systems in which Zn O and TiO_2 were exposed to red bean seedlings individually or in a mixture approach. The results showed that in single metal oxide treatments, the uptake and transport increased with increasing exposure period from one week to three weeks.However, in the metal oxide co-exposure treatment, due to complexation and competition among the particles, the uptake and transport were remarkably decreased. | 17 | Broad bandwidth SOA-based multiwavelength laser incorporating a bidirectional Lyot filter显示文摘We demonstrate a broad bandwidth multiwavelength laser based on a bidirectional Lyot filter and a semiconductor optical amplifier with a mechanism of intensity-dependent loss as the flatness agent. A wide bandwidth of a multiwavelength spectrum of 32.9 nm within a 5 dB uniformity is obtained under optimized polarization parameters. For this case, the number of generated lasing lines is 329 with a fixed wavelength separation of 0.1 nm. The power stability of this multiwavelength laser is less than 1.35 dB within 200 min time frame.
