Reversible and irreversible adsorption of bare and hybrid silica nanoparticles onto carbonate surface at reservoir condition显示文摘Realistic implementation of nanofluids in subsurface projects including carbon geosequestration and enhanced oil recovery requires full understanding of nanoparticles(NPs)adsorption behaviour in the porous media. The physicochemical interactions between NPs and between the NP and the porous media grain surface control the adsorption behavior of NPs.This study investigates the reversible and irreversible adsorption of silica NPs onto oil-wet and water-wet carbonate surfaces at reservoir conditions. Each carbonate sample was treated with different concentrations of silica nanofluid to investigate NP adsorption in terms of nanoparticles initial size and hydrophobicity at different temperatures, and pressures.Aggregation behaviour and the reversibility of NP adsorption onto carbonate surfaces was measured using dynamic light scattering(DLS),scanning electron microscope(SEM)images, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope(EDS),and atomic force microscope(AFM)measurement. Results show that the initial hydrophilicity of the NP and the carbonate rock surface can influence the NPs adsorption onto the rock surfaces.Typically, oppositely charged NP and rock surface are attracted to each other, forming a mono or multilayers of NPs on the rock.Operation conditions including pressure and temperature have shown minor influence on nano-treatment efficiency. Moreover,DLS measurement proved the impact of hydrophilicity on the stability and adsorption trend of NPs.This was also confirmed by SEM images.Further,AFM results indicated that a wide-ranging adsorption scenario of NPs on the carbonate surface exists.Similar results were obtained from the EDS measurements. This study thus gives the first insight into NPs adsorption onto carbonate surfaces at reservoirs conditions.Zain-UL-Abedin Arain Sarmad Al-Anssari Muhammad Ali Shoaib Memon Masood Ahmed Bhatti Christopher Lagat Mohammad Sarmadivaleh 2020Petroleum2020,6,3:2
Antibiotic susceptibility profiling and virulence potential of Campylobacter jejuni isolates from different sources in Pakistan显示文摘Objective:To determine antibiotic resistance patterns and virulence potential of Campylobacter jejuni(C.jejuni) isolates from clinical human diarrheal infections, cattle and healthy broilers. Methods:Antibiotic sensitivity patterns of C.jejuni isolates were determined by Kirby Bauer Disc Diffusion assay. These isolates were then subjected to virulence profiling for the detection of map A(membrane-associated protein).cadF(fibronectin binding protein).wlaN(beta-1.3-galaclosyltransferase) and neu AB(sialic acid biosynthesis gene).Further C.jejuni isolates were grouped by random amplification of polymorphic DNA(RAPD) profiling. Results:A total of436 samples from poultry(n=88).cattle(n=216) and humans(n=132) from different locations were collected. Results revealed percentage of C.jejuni isolates were 35.2%(31/88).25.0%(54/216) and 11.3%(15/132) among poultry, cattle and clinical human samples respectively.Antibiotic susceptibility results showed that similar resistance patterns to cephalothin was ie.87.0%,87.1%and 89%among humans, poultry and cattle respectively, followed by sulfamethoxazolc+trimcthoprim 40.0%,38.7%and 31.0%in humans, poultry and cattle and Ampicillin 40%,32%and 20%in humans, poultry and cattle respectively.Beta-lactamase activity was detected in 40.00%humans.20.37%cattle and 32.25%in poultry C.jejuni isolates.CadF and mapA were present in all poultry, cattle and human C jejuni isolates.wlauN was not detected in any isolate and neu AB was found in 9/31(36%) poultry isolates.RAPD profiling results suggested high diversity of C.jejuni isolates. Conclusions:Detection of multidrug resistant C.jejuni strains from poultry and cattle is alarming as they can be potential hazard to humans. Moreover, predominant association of virulence factors, cadF and map A(100%each) in C.jejuni isolates from all sources and neuAB(36%) with poultry isolates suggest the potential source of transmission of diverse types of C.jejuni to humans.Fariha Masood Siddiqui Muhammad Akram Nighat Nourccn Zobia Noreen Habib Bokhari 2015Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2015,8,3:2
Rice molecular markers and genetic mapping:Current status and prospects显示文摘Dramatic changes in climatic conditions that supplement the biotic and abiotic stresses pose severe threat to the sustainable rice production and have made it a difficult task for rice molecular breeders to enhance production and productivity under these stress factors. The main focus of rice molecular breeders is to understand the fundamentals of molecular pathways involved in complex agronomic traits to increase the yield. The availability of complete rice genome sequence and recent improvements in rice genomics research has made it possible to detect and map accurately a large number of genes by using linkage to DNA markers. Linkage mapping is an effective approach to identify the genetic markers which are co-segregating with target traits within the family. The ideas of genetic diversity, quantitative trait locus(QTL) mapping, and marker-assisted selection(MAS) are evolving into more efficient concepts of linkage disequilibrium(LD) also called association mapping and genomic selection(GS), respectively. The use of cost-effective DNA markers derived from the fine mapped position of the genes for important agronomic traits will provide opportunities for breeders to develop high-yielding, stress-resistant, and better quality rice cultivars. Here we focus on the progress of molecular marker technologies, their application in genetic mapping and evolution of association mapping techniques in rice.Ghulam Shabir Kashif Aslam Abdul Rehman Khan Muhammad Shahid Hamid Manzoor Sibgha Noreen Mueen Alam Khan Muhammad Baber Muhammad Sabar Shahid Masood Shah Muhammad Arif 2017Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,9:2
Regolith thickness modeling using a GIS approach for landslide distribution analysis, NW Himalayas显示文摘Regolith thickness is considered as a contributing factor for the occurrence of landslides.Although, mostly it is ignored because of complex nature and as it requires more time and resources for investigation. This study aimed to appraise the role of regolith thickness on landslide distribution in the Muzaffarabad and surrounding areas, NW Himalayas. For this purpose regolith thickness samples were evenly collected from all the lithological units at representative sites within different slope and elevation classes in the field. Topographic attributes(slope, aspect, drainage, Topographic Wetness Index, elevation and curvature) were derived from the Digital Elevation Model(DEM)(12.5 m resolution).Arc GIS Model Builder was used to develop the regolith thickness model. Stepwise regression technique was used to explore the spatial variation of regolith thickness using topographic attributes and lithological units. The derived model explains about 88% regolith thickness variation. The model was validated and shows good agreement(70%) between observed and predicted values. Subsequently, the derived regolith model was used to understand the relationship between regolith thickness and landslide distribution. The analysis shows that most of the landslides were located within 1-5 m regolith thickness. However, landslide concentration is highest within 5-10 m regolith thickness, which shows that regolith thickness played a significant role for the occurrence of landslide in the studied area.Muhammad BASHARAT Masood QASIM Muhammad SHAFIQUE Nasir HAMEED Muhammad Tayyib RIAZ Muhammad Rustam KHAN 2018Journal of Mountain Science2018,15,11:2

Effect of Zn doping on electronic structure and optical properties zincblende GaN(A DFT+U insight)显示文摘The development of new materials, having exceptional properties in comparison to existing materials is highly required for bringing advancement in electronic and optoelectronic technologies.Keeping this fact,we investigated structural, electronic, and optical properties of zincblende GaN doped with selected Zn concentrations(6.25%,12.50%,and 18.70%),using the first-principle calculations based on density functional theory with GGA+U.We conducted the entire study using the WIEN2K code.In this study,we calculated various significant parametric quantities such as cohesive energies, formation energies, bulk moduli, and lattice constants along with the study of optical and electronic properties by substituting Ga atoms with Zn atoms in 1×2×2 supercell. The structural stability is confirmed by studying the phonon dispersion curves which suggest that Zn:GaN material is stable against the 6.25%and 18.70%Zn concentrations while for 12.50%,it shows instability. The Hubbard values U=0,2,4,6 eV were added to GGA and the electronic properties were improved with the U=6 eV.Optical absorption was blue shifted while the refractive index and dielectric constant were increased with increasing the Zn concentrations.Electronic properties are enhanced due to the prime contribution of cations(Zn)3ri states. The optical and electronic properties are further discussed in detail in the entire study.Muhammad Junaid Iqbal Khan Zarfishan Kanwal Masood Yousaf Hamid Ullah Javed Ahmad Abid Latif Yong-Han Shin Ata Ur Rahman Khalid 2021Communications in Theoretical Physics2021,73,3:1

Numerical Simulation and Experimental Verification of CMOD in SENT Specimen: Application on FCGR of Welded Tool Steel显示文摘Single-edged notched tension (SENT) specimen is used to study the fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) behavior of AISI 50100 steel using MTS 810. Calibration tests are run to get plots of crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) vs. load and CMOD vs. crack length-to-width ratio with the known crack lengths. Numerical simulation is also done to try to establish a relation between crack length and CMOD. FCGR of welded and un-welded specimens are plotted against stress intensity factor range to show the effect of welding on fatigue crack growth rate of AISI 50100 steel. The experimentally obtained CMOD values are compared with values obtained by numerical simulation using ABAQUS/StandardTM software package. Results show that numerical values are in good agreement with experimental data for small crack lengths and lower values of applied load.Amir SULTAN Riffat Asim PASHA Mifrah ALI Muhammad Zubair KHAN Muhammad Afzal KHAN Naeem Ullah DAR Masood SHAH 2013Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2013,26,1:1
